Hi no Kuni Shenlo POV
I was approaching Konoha, the village hidden within the leaves. After four days of running, I found a tiny bit of relief, knowing that I was almost there. It had been five years since I first left. Leaving the torture, pain, neglect, abuse, assassination attempts, and murders. I left it all behind when I left; I came back mainly to see if they had changed their ways.
There was only one way to find out.
I walked down the path toward Konoha. The trees rustled with a slight breeze, the canopy letting whispers of light drift through the leaves. The forest seemed to breathe with a natural feel to its way of life. The calls of animals echoed through the trees. The plant life seemed to flourish as I walked by.
Finally, after thirty minutes of walking, the gates to Konoha came into view. The gates were massive. They were green with significant red symbols painted onto the insides of the gate.
I approached the gatekeeper through the waiting lines. Once I reached the desk, I handed my slip of paper. On it was the Hokage's seal, describing my leave of absence and when I was supposed to come back. The two gatekeepers looked at each other hesitantly, as if they didn't know what to do.
Tired of waiting I spoke, "Listen, I may not seem like it, but I am Shenlo Otsutsuki. The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi gave me permission to leave Konoha for five years on a training trip. I promised I would come back when I was twelve, just in time for the graduation exams. I understand that I don't seem like a twelve-year-old but I promise you that I am."
Hesitantly nodding, they handed the slip back to me and set me on my way.
Realizing that I had nowhere to stay I decided to stop by the Hokage office. Making my way through the crowded streets filled with civilian merchants and villagers, I looked around. Taking note of what had changed since I had left. One thing I had taken note of was that no ninja took the main roads, they all ran over the tops of buildings. Tired of walking, I gathered a minuscule amount of chakra and shunsined to the Hokage's office. Once outside of the office, I knocked on the door.
Moments later I heard a faint voice telling me to enter. I opened the door and entered the room.
I came face to face with the man who had let me leave this place.
"How may I help you today?" He asked.
Not saying anything, I walked toward his desk and placed the slip of paper in front of him.
He started to read the paper, his eyes narrowing, then they suddenly widened. "Shenlo? Is it really you?" He asked with excitement in his voice.
Nodding my head, I pulled my mask down. Revealing the three scar marks on each side of my face. "Yes, lord Hokage it is. If you would like I will give you a basic outline on who I was taught by in the five years I was gone."
"Yes, I would like that." He spoke.
Nodding, I continued, "The first year I trained with Itachi Uchiha, we had left the village at the same time. The second and third years I spent training with the seven ninja swordsmen who are now deceased with no successors except for me. For four months after I spent training with Chiyo, a poison specialist in Sunagakure, the next eight months were spent hunting missing-nin, and bandits. Finally, the fifth year was spent as an agent of the kinkaku force, which is now also destroyed. I killed them all before making my escape to Konoha. Throughout all my training I am skilled in enough fields to be a prime candidate for Anbu black ops. In kenjutsu, bukijutsu, and fuinjutsu I am Kage Level."
"Hmm very well, you have surpassed even our greatest prodigies. I will have to take special care to organize teams for tomorrow. If you hurry you can still make it to the exams before they start." He spoke with seriousness. He gave me a scroll to give to the instructor.
"Thank you, Lord Hokage," I spoke before I shunsined to the academy.
The Academy Shenlo POV
I arrived just outside the classroom. I knocked on the door to the room. A few moments later the instructor opened the door. The instructor who it turned out was Iruka. I handed him the scroll, letting him read it. It took Iruka a couple of seconds to read it, nodding he stepped aside letting me into the room. "Go find a seat the exam will start soon." He spoke.
Finding my seat in the back of the class, I noticed that I had sat next to Shikamaru Nara, and Shino Aburame once again. The rest of the class was eyeing me weirdly as if trying to figure out what I looked like behind the hair and mask.
Soon the written exams were handed out. I was disappointed at the level of difficulty the written exam needed. It was as if someone had sabotaged the curriculum to the point it was irreparable. Suddenly I realized, there was a genjutsu over everyone's paper. To help discover who was worthy to become genin. I released the genjutsu over my paper and finished my test. I frowned however knowing that the test itself was still not at a high enough level to have the future genins ready. Disregarding my thoughts, I played my head down and waited for the others to finish.
Soon the tests were collected. We were directed outside for the throwing portion of the exam. The main requirements for the tests were to have at least a 5/10 for both kunai and shuriken. There were extra points for any other forms of throwing weapons. Most of the civilian-born children only made 4/10 for both with a select few making at least a 5/10. Shikamaru Nara, Kiba Inuzuka, Choji Akimichi, InoYamanaka all got a solid 7/10 for both. Sasuke Uchiha, Shino Aburama, and Hinata Hyuuga all received a 9/10 for both.
It was finally my turn. I looked around trying to gauge what the other students were thinking. From Sasuke, I received arrogance, from Shino and Shikamaru I received indifference. From Choji I received hunger, and the rest I received smugness.
Reaching down to my pouches, I picked up ten kunai, threw them in a twisting motion, and they all deflected off each other at perfect angles and hit all ten targets in the dead center. Receiving a shocked look from the students and instructors I continued. I did the same for the shuriken. As Iruka was about to call up another student, I spoke, "Iruka, sir, I have two more forms of throwing weapons. Senbon and throwing knives." Nodding Iruka motioned for me to continue.
Grabbing five senbon in each hand I took a deep breath and threw them, receiving a 9/10. With the throwing knives, I threw them one by one with the blades toward the distant targets. I received a surprising 8/10 for the throwing knives. Continuing on after me was Naruto Uzumaki, receiving a 6/10 for kunai, and a 5/10 for shuriken. I frowned at Naruto, disappointed by his skill progression over the five years I was gone.
Moving on to Taijutsu we were to go against the instructors for a minimum of two minutes. Most of the civilian-born children only lasted a minute at most. The clan-born children lasted nearly two minutes. The two clan children who lasted the two minutes were Sasuke Uchiha and Hinata Hyuuga.
When it was my turn, I got into my home brewed stance with my left foot in front of me, my right foot crouched beneath me. My arms are out in front of me. The other students around me laughed and laughed thinking that I would fail. After seeing that I wasn't doing anything the instructor Mizuki ran toward me. He went for an obvious feint to the left, so I blocked the incoming hit from the right and punched Mizuki in the stomach with my left. Backpedaling a few steps, I got ready again. After a few more times I started to get bored.
I jumped into the air, kicked Mizuki in the head, and landed on the ground in a slide, I put my hands on the ground, in front of me. I slid my legs to the right where they knocked Mizuki to the ground. I stood above him with my foot above his throat, and spoke, "Do you yield?"
Mizuki looked into my eyes and studied me for a few seconds before tapping my foot twice. Putting my hand forward I helped Mizuki up. Next up was Naruto Uzumaki. Naruto was unfortunately worse than the civilian children. We moved on to the Bukijutsu next, most kids pulled out kunai and mixed it into their taijutsu.
It was my turn, and I spoke to Iruka, "Iruka, I have three forms of Bukijutsu, I use the Kusarigama, Naginata, and an O-katana."
Iruka spoke, "Ok, very well, first let's do the O-katana."
Iruka pulled out a wakizashi. We stood in our stances and faced each other. Iruka moved first with an upwards diagonal strike toward my chest, ducking and spinning to the left. I tripped Iruka and held my blade to his throat, a thin line of blood starting to form. I sheath my sword and step back giving Iruka room to get ready for the next fight.
Iruka nodded toward me, signifying he was ready. Nodding, I pulled out my naginata off my back. I held it out in front of me laxely the tip of the blade nearly touching the ground. I moved first with a jump in the air, my weapon trailing behind me. I lashed downward with a chakra strengthened blow. Iruka blocked the strike with a horizontal block reinforced with his other hand. My momentum carried me forward, landing on the ground out of a frontflip. I swung my naginata out to my right, an obvious feint so that I could trick him into letting his guard down. He blocked my blade. I stepped back, raising my grip higher onto the pole as if it was a staff. I approached my opponent and sent a strike to the left followed by a strike to the right. Iruka blocked the bladed end with his wakizashi, then blocked the blunt end of my weapon with his forearm. He then proceeded to kick me in the chest.
Reacting quickly I sidestepped to the left and brought the blunt end of my naginata down on his knee. I then forced him to a kneeling position and once again brought me a blade to his throat. "Do you yield?" I ask. Iruka grit his teeth in anger, and subtly grabs his weapon, and thrusts his sword toward my stomach. He was surprised when a column of earth rose up and hit him in the stomach. Soon vines burst out of the ground and pinned him there.
"I ask once more, do you yield?" I asked.
"I yield," Iruka responded, obviously angered.
Mizuki stepped forward and motioned for me to start the next fight. I put my naginata back on my back and unsheathed my Kusarigama. I held onto the chain near the handle to the scythe in my right hand, and near the weight in my left. I started to spin both ends. Mizuki rushed forward, reacting with the proper defense I slung the weight toward Mizuki.
Mizuki however just barely bent far enough back to dodge the deadly weight. I yanked the weight back as he continued to run. I slung the scythe at him, He bent to the side as it flew over him from the right. He continued toward me, I ran at him with both ends of the chain spinning. I jump over Mizuki. Mizuki looked up in surprise, he watched me fly over him. What he didn't see was the blunt end of the scythe hitting him in the back of the head.
Mizuki promptly fell over unconscious. I walked up to him, shook him trying to wake him. I looked toward Iruka. I shook my head, he nodded and called for a medic to take him to the infirmary.
We then went back inside the classroom. Where we then took the ninjutsu portion of the exam. Most kids came back out of the back room with headbands on their foreheads with smug facial expressions plastered onto their faces. I was eventually called into the room and I spoke, "Listen Iruka, Mizuki, I'm not going to show off on this one. I will only do one extra jutsu, even though I know multiple for all five elements. I will be unable to do the bunshin jutsu because my chakra is too potent for that. I have near-perfect control, but I have too much and too dense chakra for me to do that." With that said, they nodded and started this portion.
They had me substitute with an object in the room while they threw a kunai at me. So I decided to substitute with the table in front of them. I then substituted back into place. I made a one-handed half ram seal and made shadow clones. I then transformed myself and the clones into the Hokages.
I then made a couple of hand signs and muttered, "Raiton: Inazuma bimu no jutsu!" (Lightning Release: Lightning beam technique). With that a wide beam of lightning came from my hand and shot toward the wall, going through it and multiple trees.
"Thank you, student..." Iruka trailed off.
"Shenlo. My name is Shenlo." I say.
"Ah, thank you. Thank you Shenlo, you have passed. Come forward to collect your headband." Iruka said. Doing so, I grabbed a headband with a black cloth. I walked back into the main room and sat in a seat bored. After me was Naruto. A sudden yell from the room had us all except for me questioning what had happened. A few moments later, Naruto came back in and exited the classroom.
A few minutes later, the instructors came back out. I sat up interested in the results. Iruka cleared his throat, beckoning for silence. "I have the results of the exams. Those of you with headbands have passed obviously. The rookie of the year was a close score between three people. Sasuke and Hinata come forward." The two students mentioned went forward. Iruka continued, "You two have tied for the runner-up position, for this, we have decided to give you the Happuri." Sasuke and Hinata put them onto their faces and gave back their Hiate's. They then made their way back to their seats.
"The rookie of the year, who aced the written exam, performed beyond expectation for taijutsu, received a 185% on the throwing portion of the exam, received sixty extra points for each of the three forms of bukijutsu shown, and received a 150% on the ninjutsu portion of the exam. Shenlo, please step forward." I nodded slightly, walking forward. "For being rookie of the year, we give you this black hannya mask."
Nodding appreciatively I took the mask, put it on my face. I swept my blue hair back and gave my hiate back. I then went back to my seat in the back of the class.
Iruka spoke one more time. "Ok, be here at nine am for team assignments. Do not be late or you will be assigned another year at the academy." With that, he walked out of the classroom.
