"Sonic, wake up!"

Sonic was slow to rouse. "Hmmm…wha…?"

"Sonic, we don't wanna miss breakfast, do we?" said Tails.

Sonic did his best to shake the cobwebs out of his head. "Nah, I guess not."

Once again, Sonic and Tails headed to Molly's for breakfast.

"Sonic, you don't look too good. Is everything OK?"

Sonic sighed. "Well, I slept like crap last night, but other than that, everything's disco, I guess."

"Is there something you want to talk about? You don't have to if you're not comfortable; I'm just trying to be a good bro."

"All right, I'll fess up: Tails, there's…"

"Eh heh heh!"

Before Sonic could confess what he wanted to confess, him and Tails were joined by the Wario Bros., Wario and Waluigi.

"Hey, you-a two goofballs-a gonna let us sit-a here or what?" said Wario.

"Yeah, what Wario-a said!" said Waluigi.

Sonic shrugged. "Eh, go ahead, I guess. We don't mind, do we, Tails?"

Tails shook his head. "Not at all."

And so, Wario and Waluigi sat down across from Sonic and Tails. Just then, their waitress – a voluptuous brunette – came to their table.

"Hi, welcome to Molly's! My name is Alice! Can I start you gentlemen off with drinks?"

"I'll have a coffee, cream and sugar," said Sonic.

"Orange juice for me, please," said Tails.

"You-a got-a Mountain Dew here?" asked Wario.

"We only have Coke products, but we do have Monster as well," replied Alice.

"I'll-a have two Monsters, then!"

"And I'll-a have two Monster Lo-Carbs!" said Waluigi.

Alice left to get their drinks.

"Hey-a Sonic, why-a not happy today?" asked Wario.

"Yeah, this-a the Olympics!" said Waluigi. "This-a happy time! Well, happy for-a everyone but me…"

"I get what you cats are sayin'," said Sonic. "I just had a bad time sleepin' is all."

"That reminds me," said Tails. "You don't usually drink coffee. Did you really sleep that horribly?"

Sonic shrugged. "Yeah, I guess." Then, he cracked a slight smile. "Though I gotta say, it's pretty funny that Wario and Waluigi ordered two Monsters each. Seriously, I gotta hand it to ya cats, that's some serious dy-no-mite right there! I get really wired up after just one, ya know?"

"Heh, what can I-a say?" said Wario. "I'm a big eater!"

"I don't-a eat as much as-a him, but me-a too!" said Waluigi.

Soon enough, Alice returned with everybody's drinks.

"Do you gentlemen need a few minutes to order or are you all set?" asked Alice.

Sonic gestured towards everybody else with his thumb. "I'm ready when these dudes are!"

Tails, Wario and Waluigi all gave affirmative responses.

"OK, I'm gonna have the Molly Special," said Sonic.

"What kind of toast would you like with that?" asked Alice.

"White toast, please."

"And how would you like your eggs?"

"Sunny side up, please.

"I'll have the 2-2-2," said Tails.

"Would you like bacon, sausage or ham with that?" asked Alice.

"Bacon, please."

"And what kind of toast would you like with that?"

"Raisin toast, please."

"And how would you like your eggs?"

"Over easy, please."

"Gimme two orders-a the four-piece-a chicken and waffles!" said Wario.

"And I-a want the Super Hungry Man!" said Waluigi.

"And how would you like your steak cooked?" asked Alice.

"Medium!"

"And do you want that with waffles or pancakes?"

"Pancakes!"

"And what kind of toast do you want?"

"Wheat!"

"And how would you like your eggs?"

"Over easy!"

Alice left to put in their order. By this time, Sonic's mood had perked up even without a sip of coffee.

"Two things of chicken and waffles!?" Sonic chuckled. "Steak and pancakes!? I know we ain't talked much, but I'm likin' you dudes already!"

Wario laughed. "I like-a you too, Sonic and Tails!"

"Me-a too!" said Waluigi.

Sonic put three creams and three sugars in his coffee. "So tell me, what do ya do when you ain't out adventurin' or whatever?"

"You-a won't believe this, but I-a like-a puttin' my money in the stock market!" replied Wario.

Tails put down his orange juice. "Isn't the stock market risky, though?"

Waluigi slapped Wario on the back of the shoulder. "Hey, this-a guy right here, he-a knows what he's-a doin'!"

"How-a else did I-a found one-a the biggest microgame companies in-a the world!?"

Wario slugged his first can of Monster, and then let out a loud, drawn-out burp. Sonic and Tails held their noses.

"Jesus, Wario, what did ya eat last night, dead fish!?"

"Sonic, we might wanna reconsider having the Wario Bros. sit with us," said Tails.

However, Wario and Waluigi had a really good laugh about the whole thing.

Later on, in the University of Emerald City's gymnasium, there was space set aside for table tennis. Tails was taking part in the men's singles tournament, and for today, his opponent would be Waluigi. Tails was feeling quite confident in himself, though he found it rather funny that he should be facing an opponent with whom he'd had breakfast not too long ago. After both contenders shook hands with the officials and then each other, they got on with a coin toss, Waluigi – as with all visiting athletes – getting to choose. He chose "tails", again, no pun intended. It was "tails", so he got to serve first. As for Tails, he chose to start at the "north" end of the table.

Waluigi threw the ball straight up at least half a foot in the air before serving it and commencing the game. Though having a little trouble with the height of the table owing to his height of 2'7", Tails was nevertheless able to return Waluigi's serve. This game turned out to be a frantic one, with the ball going every which way but loose and neither opponent being particularly willing to give in to the other. Then, about a minute into the game, Waluigi hit the ball but missed Tails' side of the table by a wide margin, thereby earning Tails a point. However, Waluigi still had serving privilege, so he made another serve, and the game continued. Once again, neither side was particularly willing to back down, but even so, Tails scored another point when Waluigi accidentally hit the ball into the net on his side of the table.

After this, it was Tails' turn to serve, and yet again, both sides played really hard. However, Waluigi scored his first point when the ball hit an obtuse corner of the table near the net and Tails dove for it and missed. Nevertheless, in spite of Waluigi playing hard and even surpassing Tails at one point, it was the little orange fox who would ultimately claim victory at 11-7. With this in addition to the past events he'd won, Tails was feeling that much more confident about making it on his own.

After the table tennis match, Waluigi was sulking away from the gymnasium.

"Cheer up, little brother!" Wario patted Waluigi on the shoulder. "You-a get them next time!"

Waluigi sighed. "I-a never get them any time. What's-a the point?"

"Bah, who-a needs these Olympic-a Games anyways!? I-a have enough-a money from all-a my treasure hunting!"

Waluigi nodded. "Good-a point, big brother."

Meanwhile, at Weir Beach – located in the Newfolk neighborhood of the East Beach borough – the women's beach volleyball competition was taking place. At this moment, Amy and Rouge were facing off against Peach and Daisy. Amy and Rouge's uniform was a two-piece bikini with a white top that had red trim and a blue bottom. Peach and Daisy were also wearing two-piece bikinis, theirs having a red top with white trim and a white bottom. The match had yet to start, but Rouge had already noticed something amiss with Amy…

"Amy, my dear, you look upset. Is something bothering you?"

Amy sighed. "Ordinarily, I wouldn't tell you of all people, but since this is the Olympics and we're on the same team, I'll talk: I had a real falling out with Sonic yesterday."

Rouge frowned. "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Might I ask what happened between you two?"

Amy tapped her fingers together. "Well…it's just…yesterday, Sonic and I were hanging out at Joey's Pizza with Luigi and Princess Daisy, and he flat out said he only saw me as a friend. After everything I did for him, it just hurts really badly knowing that he won't return my affections."

Rouge put her hands on Amy's shoulders and smiled. "Look, I don't know exactly how you feel, but I've been burned by men before, and I just wanna let you know that your feelings are totally valid. If there's anything you need from me, just let me know, hon!"

Amy peered deeply into Rouge's aqua green eyes. Sure, the two hadn't exactly been on the best terms with each other, but knowing the jewel thief actually cared about her feelings was enough to drag Amy's spirit from the dark pit of lamentations and into the light. Consequently, the little pink hedgehog couldn't help but smile.

"Thanks, Rouge!"

"You're welcome, Amy!"

Rouge gave Amy a big hug, and though surprised by the gesture at first – especially considering her face was in Rouge's voluptuous chest – Amy nevertheless returned the hug with a smile. Both parties basked in the goodwill and happiness of the Olympic spirit for a bit before letting go.

"You know, Rouge, I actually think I like girls now. Er…I don't mean in a lesbian kind of way, but…"

Rouge giggled. "Hon, I've experimented with at least one other woman before, and if you feel that way, my arms are always open to you! Now enough chit-chat, the match is about to begin!"

Amy and Rouge got together with Peach and Daisy for the coin toss. Again, being the visitors, the Mushroom Kingdom got to pick, and Peach picked "heads". It was "tails", so Mobius got to serve first, with Amy getting the first serve. She hit it well over the net, but even so, Peach was able to get a good bump in and start the rally. Daisy set the ball, and Peach attempted a spike, but Rouge bumped it and Amy hit it over the net. The action went on for quite a bit…that is, until Daisy tried to stop a mean spike from Amy and missed, thereby earning a point for Mobius. Since Amy had served first and her team won this rally, she got to serve again. Once again, it was a frantic rally, but ultimately, because Peach dove to stop a spike from Rouge and accidentally hit the ball out of bounds, another point went to Mobius. Though the Mushroom Kingdom proved themselves to be some tough cookies, even getting the lead twice during the game, it was Mobius who won the first set at 21-17.

After the one-minute interval, the referee once again did a coin toss, but because the Mushroom Kingdom got to pick on the first one, Mobius got to choose on this one, and Amy picked "tails". It was "heads", so Peach elected to serve for this set. Once again, both sides put up a hell of a rally, but eventually, Rouge missed a spike from Peach, thereby giving the Mushroom Kingdom the first point of this set. Peach got to serve again, and despite a fierce rally from both sides, Peach managed to spike the ball over Amy's head, thereby earning another point for the Mushroom Kingdom. As usual, it was a furious game, and Mobius was in the lead for a time, but the Mushroom Kingdom took this set 21-15.

Another one-minute interval passed, and the Mushroom Kingdom got to decide on the final coin toss. Peach picked "tails" and got just that, so she got to serve. For this final set, only 15 points were needed to attain victory, and after the ball had gone over no less than seven times, Daisy ended up scoring the first point of this set. Daisy scored another point after that one, but on the next serve, Peach attempted to block a spike from Rouge, but the ball grazed the side of her hand and hit the ground, earning a point for Mobius. As usual, both sides played as hard as they possibly could. Amy's motivation for winning this one was to hopefully get Sonic back, while Peach seemed to want to prove that she was more than just a damsel in distress. Rouge and Daisy, however, just wanted to win because they wanted to be the best. If the final score was any indication, one team was indeed the best: Mobius, at 15-9.

After the game, Amy and Rouge took some time to congratulate each other:

"You know, Rouge, you're not such a bad person! I mean, sure, you're a jewel thief and you like to flirt with Sonic, but when it really counts, you're a valuable team player!"

"Awww, thanks, Amy! I mean, ever since the ARK Incident, Metal Sonic and the Black Arms Invasion, I've been trying to be not just a better woman, but a better person!" Rouge put a hand on Amy's shoulder. "And don't you worry about me and Sonic! As far as I'm concerned, I could never just choose one guy!"

Just then, Peach and Daisy showed up.

"Hey, good game, Amy and Rouge!" said Peach.

"Yeah, we may not have won, but we enjoyed playing with you two!" said Daisy.

"Same with you!" said Amy. "We're always glad to meet people from the Mushroom Kingdom!"

"Right!" said Rouge. "By the way, are either of you princesses interested in spending the night at my place after these Games?"

Peach and Daisy looked at each other before turning back to Rouge.

"That sounds nice, but I have business to attend to back home," said Peach.

"Yeah, I hired somebody to babysit my cats and I just wanna make sure everything's OK with them," said Daisy.

"Right. Well, buh-bye, princesses!"

And so, Amy, Rouge, Peach and Daisy parted ways, and another day would pass into the annals of Olympic history.
