The blonde was up and ready, though he had no idea why. His father had scolded him when he got home, but no beating. It was odd. But now the teen had his speacilized outfit he'd wear to confessionals on, with his mother's old cross necklace sticking out from the black uniform. "Sir.. I do not mean to question your authority, but may I ask what the reason was for me to be ready by this time?" His father smiled, a gut wrenching sight. "Well, son" That word hung on his tongue for a few moments. "You are going to be helping me up on stage in front of everyone." He could feel himself stop breathing. Because of course, Philip went to church. And what would he think of the pastor's son then if the pastor's son was just some high school fuck-up? He'd hate him. Yeah, that was it. Why would he ever like him?
"Travis." His father snapped him back into reality. "S-sir." He responded. "You will read the lines I have prepared for you in my scripture while on stage, then go to the confessionals. You will then come home. Do you understand, son?" He shakily nodded his head. "Yes, sir. I understand."
"Surprise!" Philip's mother and father burst through the front door as he was eating breakfast. "Uh.. I thought you guys were gone for a week?" She kissed his forehead. "Not that I'm complaining that your back." She smiled, setting her things down. "Work let us off early, so now we're able to go to church alltogether!" She smiled, wider. "Oh, cool." He smiled back. "I'll go get ready, I've got a major case of bedhead."
Phillip's father did not sit with them, instead he chatted outside with the men that came for the conversation. He wasn't an atheist, but he certainly didn't want to be caught sleeping in that church. Phil was once, and the priest had made him recite a hymn. He'd told Travis about how absolutely terrible that was, and that he wanted to give that priest a piece of his mind. Of course, his mother would never allow it. She honestly thought he was adorable, standing up and singing a hymn. He regretted staying up that past night, that was for sure.
He sat down, ready to tune out, until he saw a familiar head of blonde hair. He stared, with a confused expression plastered onto his face. The head got taller, standing up. The person wasn't facing him, but he could almost tell who it was.
Travis got up, feeling his legs shake, but forcing them to stop. Act normal. He walked up, and stared at his father as he read. From the corner of his eye he could see that familiar blue hue. It was finally his turn, of course it was. His father let the eyes all have a moment to focus on him, before giving him the signal to start. He did, nailing every word perfectly without mess-ups. But at the same time he had no emotion in his words, just trying to get it over with. His relationship, joy, was taken away. His father made sure it'd never be given back, at least not by that boy. He knew what they had done. The sins his own kin had committed. To pleasure oneself instead of others, how selfish of him. It couldn't go unpunished.
"Your sins have been forgiven. Lifted from your very bones. You are cleansed." Travis repeated for maybe the fortieth time now. He held his head in his hands, lifting them only to look at the person entering his section of the confessional. "Why are you here.. Go find someone better, I am not worthy of th-" He was silenced by a long kiss. "You've always been fucking worthy. Okay? Why couldn't you just tell me- I- I was so torn, Trav!" Travis stared at him, raising an eyebrow. "Torn?"
"I had a crush on you, alright? I have a crush on you. But then this random pastor's son comes in and steals your attention and I didn't know who I loved- you're literally everything I ever
could've wanted!" He paused. "So yeah, your really fucking worthy. And you shouldn't have hid from me for that long because I really honestly felt bad for whoever I was going to have to leave to be with the other." The blonde smiled softly, cupping the bluenette's face in his hands, and kissing him. "I guess I just thought I was so damn fucked up, that I shouldn't- that I shouldn't have you. Because really you are the best thing ever, and I would definitely one hundred percent throw myself off of a cliff for you, so don't ever think otherwise."
"Just stay with me and don't hide."
"I promise."
Short but sweet! Yes, I did do this entire book in one day, so if that's what it seems like it is- um you're not wrong lol
