Chapter Four – No More Nonsense
Clearwater Baptist Church, Clearwater, FL
Pastor MacKenzie listened as his daughter MacKenzie told him what happened in Aruba.
The Senior Pastor of Clearwater Baptist Church listened attentively as his only child described how the rug was pulled out from under her husband at his own father's hands.
"It was terrible Daddy," Mac said emotionally. "Hayworth never thought his father would betray him like this,"
Pastor Mac shrugged as his only child pulled a bunch of her long black hair behind her left ear with a frown. She was wearing a parade of DX family stud earrings across the anterior of her ear and her DX wedding ring on her finger. She was dazzling with DX accoutrements and the studs were a token of support, courtesy of Aurora Helmsley and Carla McCool. The DX Girls had her back and were doing everything they could to get Hunter to change his mind about Hayworth's inheritance. Unlike Hunter, the DX kids liked Charlene MacKenzie Helmsley a lot. It was clear to Pastor Mac that things had not gone the way his daughter had planned with her new family and he needed to show her more love than usual. At this point however, he felt the need to just be honest with her.
"Well, to be honest MacKenzie, Hunter and Hayworth have never really gotten along. Seth and Hunter have a much better relationship; they respect each other, they work well together and they have overcome obstacles together. This might be the very thing that God uses to bring Hayworth and Hunter closer," he said calmly and Mac furrowed her immaculate brow.
"How do you figure that Daddy? Hayworth has never been madder at his father, how could this possibly be the thing that brings them together again?" Mac asked bemused by her father's comments.
"Because giving his son's share of the family inheritance to Seth will be the thing that catapults Hayworth into his destiny. Hayworth is going to be an incredible success, no matter what he does in his life. You married one of the smartest men in the world MacKenzie, do you really think a little family rift is going to stop him from making a life for you and your family?" Pastor Mac said to his daughter and Mac smiled.
"I know Hayworth's smart Daddy but he's hurting so bad right now. It's not even so much that he doesn't have anything to leave to his family from DX, it's that Hunter chose Seth over him, that's what really hurts," Mac said and Pastor Mac nodded.
"Hunter respects Seth Rollins, he always has and because of that, he did what he thought was best for Seth and his family. Honestly baby girl, I kind of agree with Hunter. Seth deserves this, he's a good man. You and Hayworth will be just fine, I have no doubt about that Hayworth will do everything he can for you," Pastor Mac said and MacKenzie breathed heavily.
"Part of me hurts too Daddy. Hunter said that he decided to give Hayworth's inheritance to Seth when Hayworth decided to marry me. He still thinks I married Hayworth for his money. How disrespectful is that?" Mac said offended.
"Now you have a chance to prove him wrong," Pastor Mac said. "If I know Hayworth, he's already coming up with a plan to get back into his father's good graces,"
Mac turned her head away from her father; Hayworth was coming up with a plan alright but she was sure if he knew what that plan was, her father would not have as much faith in Hayworth as he did right now.
"I'm not a gold-digger Daddy, I'm a smart woman who can stand on her own two feet. I just want my husband to be happy. We just got married and we're already dealing with family drama. If someone would have told me that my first year of marriage would involve me being at odds with DX, I would have said you were crazy. I thought we were all getting on so well, how could I have been so naïve? Hunter's never going to accept me as the new Mrs Helmsley," Mac said.
"Well, you are the new Mrs Helmsley and you have the ring on your finger to prove it. You are Hayworth's wife and he will have no choice but to respect his son's decision. It's all going to work out Mac, I promise," Pastor Mac said and he hugged his daughter comfortingly. "Now, I gotta call Seth. He did such a great job overseeing the church while I was in hiding from Stephanie McMahon, the congregation want him to come back and minister full-time!"
"That's not going to happen Daddy. Seth's taking his family to Saudi Arabia in two weeks. He'll be out of the country for awhile," Mac said and her father nodded clearly disappointed that Seth would not be returning to Clearwater Baptist Church.
"Well, whatever assignment the Lord has for Seth, I'm sure he'll complete it and make the Lord proud. Then, maybe he can come back here so I can train him up to take over from me after I retire," Pastor Mac said and Mac shook her head in amazement at her father's adoration for Seth Rollins.
"You really love Seth, don't you Daddy?" Mac asked her father who nodded.
"He was my first choice to be your husband. You know, if Hayworth would learn from Seth instead of competing against him, he'd go a lot further in earning his father's respect and who knows? Maybe he'll get his inheritance back. You could do a lot worse than having Seth Rollins as a mentor, or a husband," Pastor Mac said with an implicit grin.
Mac grinned back knowing her father meant well, even if he was way off with how things were between Hayworth Helmsley and Seth Rollins.
"I think we're a long way from Hayworth and Seth spending quality time together Dad.
This thing with the DX family inheritance has torn a hole in Hayworth's heart and it is going to take a lot more than God's will to set things right between them," Mac said and she kissed her father before turning to leave the church. "Just for the record Daddy, Seth was my first choice too," she said sweetly and her father looked at her as she left.
"Things are going to work out just fine baby girl," he said before calling Seth to talk about his plans after Saudi Arabia. Seth Rollins had a very special place in the Pastor's heart and while he never married his daughter, Seth would always be like family to him and the folk at Clearwater Baptist Church.
