Betty
When Betty woke leaned back on the couch the next morning she was not surprised. She had stayed up all night searching for anything she could use. FP got in at around four in the morning and said nothing to her as he went to bed. Betty wanted to ask what happened but the look on his face said enough. Just as she was picking herself up off the couch to get some breakfast FP came down the stairs.
"Hey Mr.Jones how did last night go?" He barreled directly to the kitchen to get some coffee. She followed and he started explaining as he poured his cup.
" I didn't get any useful information. Apparently the guy Edgar sent was a test to see if I was willing to go ouf to Greendale. Staking the place out before hand didn't get me anything either." Betty knew exactly how he felt and wished she could do more. It was day four of Jughead being gone and it scared her more than anything that he wasn't back yet.
"We will get him back Mr.Jones. We have to. I won't except anything less." Betty says. FP gives her a half hearted nod before sipping his coffee. He walks out of the room and out the front door more than likely to get to work. Betty decides she is going to go to the community center. If they are going to show up there they needed to be ready. She pulls out her phone and texts Archie.
"Meet me at the community center. I want to get it ready for when these bastards arrive."
It takes mere moments for Archie to reply with a simple okay. Betty grabs some toast and heads out the door. She didn't mind that she was wearing yesterdays clothes it didn't matter. Only Jughead mattered at the moment. When Betty finally made it to the community center Archie was waiting outside. "We still have the metal detector at the front door so if they have weapons we will know."
"Do you have any cameras?"
"Just one and that one hangs in the corner by the ring. It isn't hooked to anything though."
"Lets hook it up then. If we can get anything on these guys it might help us find Jughead." Archie nods before turning and heading to the door. He unlocks it swiftly and they both enter. They quickly get to work on preparing the community center for the impending encounter.
A couple hours later
Betty made it home just a three thirty and she felt like her heart was going to explode. Her anxiety was through the roof as she burst through the red door. Everyone was seated in the living room talking. They stopped as she came through.
"Come on guys lets go." She says before rushing down the hall into the dining room. The phone was exactly where she had left it on the table. They all got into position and waited in silence. Just like the last time the phone buzzed exactly at four. The screen loaded for a moment before the picture appeared. It was Jughead again this time he was hanging from chains. There was another person besides Edgar there as well. The two men were on either side of Jughead. Jughead's head was resting against his chest and he appeared to be complete dead weight on the chains.
"Well done Mr. Jones you have passed our little test with no surprises. Which is good for your boy because my partner hates surprises."
"We know who you are Edgar there is no need to wear the hood." Alice says matter of factly and Edgar bristles.
"Very fair point Ms. Smith but your not in the position to tell me what to." Betty was barely listening she was focused on Jughead. He was not wearing a shirt which made it easy to see the damage done. He looks skinny which means they probably haven't fed him.
"I want to speak to Jughead." FP says beside her and Bettys focus shifts back to the conversation.
"I think you have earned it. What about you do you think he earned it?" Edgar says to the other man and he slowly nods his approval. Edgar reaches out and grabs Jughead by the back of the neck and forces his head up. Betty gasps as she sees his face. There are red tear paths down his cheeks and his eyes almost look hollow. He has been awake this whole time and has said nothing. Edgar leans in amd says something to Jughead that none of them can hear. When he is finished Jugheads eyes light up just a bit and he looks at the camera. "Jughead? Son are you alright?" FP says concern lacing his voice. "I'm scared dad." Jughead says his voice a broken rasp of air that breaks Bettys heart in an instant.
"Don't worry son we will get you back."
"Don't promise the boy something you aren't sure of. I keep my promises. I promised to hurt him if he tried anything. Want to see?" Edgar says releasing Jughead. His head falls back down on his chest and is quiet. Edgar approaches the camera and appears to pick it up. The room spins for a moment as Edgar moves closer to Jughead. He makes past Jughead and then turns the camera towards Jugheads back. Betty screams and tears start to flow. His back is a mess of bloody gashes. Some shallow and tiny others deep and long. "Now you know what the consequences are if you cross us. FP tomorrow at midnight you will go to the remains of thornhill. Charles you will accompany him. Alice stay at the house if we catch you outside there will be consquences. Oh and Betty you already know what you have to do. Don't keep us waiting" With those words the call ended and everyone sat there silent. Betty couldn't control the tears now flowing. He was right. She did know what she had to do. Betty would do it to get the man she loves back.
