Whenever Raph decided to disobey Splinter, he didn't go halfway. He went the whole way. He was convinced he was right. He was convinced that getting Keno into The Foot was the best way to defeat Shredder.
Raph stood in the shadow of an alley, watching, waiting. Nearby, a tough-looking teenager was talking to a group of young men. One of those young men was Keno.
"...so everybody's got to take a little test," the tough kid explained. "Then, if you're good enough, we let you in the 'organization'. Any questions?"
There were none. The young men followed their leader. Keno held back. He wanted to talk to Raph.
"I knew this would work," the new recruit said eagerly.
"Just remember," Raph said. "We get you in, we find the Foot headquarters, we get out and tell the others, right?"
"Gee, maybe I should write this down," Keno mocked. Then, before Raph could answer, he ran after the group.
Raph looked up at the sky. "I'm being punished, aren't I?" He didn't wait for an answer. He trailed after Keno, out of sight, but, he hoped, still in Keno's mind.
The recruiter took the boys to a warehouse, where he put them through tests of their martial arts skills. Most of the boys weren't very good. The recruiter excused them one by one. With Keno it was different. Keno repelled the Foot attack easily with a series of deft ninja moves. Within seconds, three Foot lay on the mat. Keno was still standing. The recruiter was definitely impressed.
"'Keno', was it? You seem to be the only one worthy of a final test," he said. Keno had the feeling it was going to be a tough one.
He was right. The recruiter showed him a mannequin completely covered with tiny bells.
"You'll have fifteen seconds," the recruiter said. "Remove as many bells as you can. One sound, and you fail."
Keno worked out that the only way he could avoid making a sound would be to head for the exit!
"Oh, and one other thing," the recruiter added. He pulled a ninja dust bomb from his pocket and dropped it on the floor. It exploded. "We work in concealment. Fifteen seconds. Go."
Keno was surrounded by dust. He found that he was also surrounded by a whirling cloud of green. Raphael to the rescue!
When the fifteen seconds were over and the smoke had settled, the recruiter found Keno, his arms cradling all the bells and the dummy - completely stripped.
"Is this enough?" Keno asked smugly.
The recruiter just nodded. He couldn't speak.
