Sorry for the long wait for an update. I work crazy long hours and trying to find time to game and update at the same time :) Just an interesting fact the title of this story is a song by a Swedish metal band called Imminence. I hope you enjoy this chapter and I shall update as soon as :)

Chapter III

I was woken up by someone kicking my bed. I opened my eyes quickly and jumped out of bed, Eric was grinning and Four had a look of disapproval on his face. "Wakey wakey initiates, today is your first day of training." Eric shouted. There were a few groans and someone had asked what time it was. "If you want to eat breakfast, I suggest you go now, training starts in thirty." I quickly got dressed and made my way to the mess hall, Alex was sat eating on his own. He looked up at me and smiled, pointing to the seat next to him. I went to the line and grabbed myself coffee, eggs and an apple and went back to Alex.

"Morning." Alex greeted. "Alice, Cameron and Lewis are coming, they wanted to sleep in."
"I wish I could, Eric decided to kick my bed and wake me up." I grumbled back.
"Ouch, did you sleep at all? You look like shit."
"To be honest no, was worrying about today."
"You'll be fine." Alex grinned. I began to eat and we chatted about different things, Alice, Cameron and Lewis joined us later. I had ten minutes to go until training, I said my goodbyes and made my way to the training room.

"Today marks the first day of training, you will be ranked." Four spoke pointing towards the score board.
"Those ranked bottom ten will be put on fence duty, which you will be shown later this week." Eric added while staring at me. I looked away. I knew I was the weakest of the group and I would have to train hard to be at a chance of not being ranked at the bottom.
"We will start with a run, follow me." Four said and began running. I was in the middle of the group and I could hear Eric yelling at the ones at the back to go faster.

Training went quickly and my muscles hurt, I didn't think I did too badly. Everyone was starting to walk away and I went to leave when Four stopped me. "Jamie, we need to talk." Eric raised his eyebrows at that and stood near the door staring. "Alone." Four glared at Eric, and he turned and walked out the door, leaving Four and me by ourselves.
"What are you doing here?" Four asked. "And how did you get that scar on your face?"
I looked and him and sneered "Who do you think? And as to why I am here, I scored Dauntless in my aptitude test. Why are you here, Four? Thought you'd be too much of a coward to get anywhere in Dauntless." I glared at him.
"Jamison" Four began.
"It's Jamie now."
"Jamie," Four corrected himself. "I'm sorry that I left you and didn't say anything. I thought I could protect you if I never told you."
I laughed "You think? You know what HE did to me when you left? Left me on the floor covered in my own piss after he had beaten me. I had to drag my beaten body to the bathroom to clean myself off and then lie and say I was jumped by some Dauntless kids."
Four's face went pale, "Jamie, I'm so so sorry. I couldn't stay there."
"Yeah, I know Four, but you could've told me. At least then I could've prepared myself. You left, without even a goodbye. I was so fucking pissed at you and now that I see you, I just hate you."
"Jamie." Four began.
"No, Four. As far as I'm concerned you are my trainer and I will respect you in that aspect, as for anything else we're through." With that I walked off through the doors and barged into Eric. I looked at with tears threatening to fall. I was just about to walk away when Eric grabbed my arm.

"What was that about?" Eric looked at me with raised eyebrows.
"I really don't want to talk about it." I grumbled.
"I'm asking, so tell me. If it's gonna effect your training then I need to know."
"It isn't."
"I'll be the judge of that." Eric said sternly.
"Four is, was my brother, back when I was a stiff." I replied. I don't think Eric's eyebrows could raise any higher.
"I was not expecting that."
"Can't say I'm thrilled with him being here." Eric grinned. "Um, can I go now?" I asked. Eric nodded and I left.

Dinner went quickly and I sat with Alex, Alice and Cameron. Lewis was on a date with some other girl. I was asked if I wanted to hang out however I made my excuses about being tired and left. To be honest I just wanted to sleep and go over everything in my head. Talking to Four had bought up feelings from the past, that I would rather have forgotten. When I got back to the dorm, I took a shower and went to sleep, setting my alarm three hours early then we needed to be up. I wanted to get some extra training in as I knew I was at a disadvantage with the rest of my group. I had tried to make friends with them however they were not interested in being friends with a Stiff. At least I had Alex, Alice, Lewis and Cameron.

I woke up when my watch beeped at me, and slipped on my training clothes. I made my way to the training room and warmed up with some laps. I was using the weights that we used yesterday, when I heard someone come in. I looked around and saw Eric.
"You're up early stiff." He observed.
"Wanted to get some extra practice in. I'm not stupid I know I'm weak."
"How long have you been here?"
I looked down at my watch, "Just over an hour."
"I'm going to make you an offer, and need an answer now." Eric looked at me.
"What is the offer?"
"I will train you. However, if you slack off, do not turn up then either you leave Dauntless or jump into the cavern. It won't be easy and you won't have much free time, but you'll be real competition. Also, this training will have to be kept on the down low."
"Why me?"
"Let's just say I have a grudge, against a certain member."
I swallowed and looked at Eric. "When do I start?"
"Now."

I had been training with Eric for about three weeks. I was getting up early in the morning and finishing late at night. Everything had hurt and yet I was pushed to do more. I noticed that I was getting muscles and my Dauntless clothes were fitting better. Eric had told me that the fights were starting next week and that as soon as we had been taught the basics, he was going to teach me some more advanced moves, that put me at an advantage. Some mornings I had breakfast with Eric while it was quiet and he told me some of the work he did. Eric was mostly in charge of the military side of things, and he was the one that allocated soldiers. Eric had spoken to me about his training and how much he detested Four. How Four had cheated and broke his nose during one fight, which made him loose first place. However, he was the better person and got leadership. Eric had also spoken to me about the different paths I could take after initiation.

It was one breakfast when Eric has asked me about my life in Abnegation. I had told him about Marcus and the beatings. I could see Eric's jaw twitch and he looked pissed. Eric had this stone-cold look about him, however he didn't have that mask when talking to me. I wouldn't say me and Eric were friends, however I had a secret hope that maybe one day we could be.
