"How's my daughter, Dr. Sullivan? Is she going to remember anything?"
"With time, yes."
Mrs. D sighed heavily as her body slumped against the chair. She then got up real quick as she grabbed Dr. Sullivan's hand, "Is there anything you can do so...so...that she'll repress her memory? Anything, like...like...a pill or something. Please doctor. I'll pay you anything. Just name it."
"Mrs. DiLaurentis, it's against my work ethic to do that to a patient. I'm sorry but I can't help you."
New York, 2 years later
Sunday
Mrs. D pulled over as they reached their destination, home. It's been 2 years after the sleepover incident. Ali went missing for 2 weeks until the nurse from Pennsylvania General Hospital called Mrs. D and told her about her daughter. Alison received a blunt force just behind her head causing her to paralyse for 2 weeks. When she woke up, the nurses thrown her a party to celebrate her recovery. However, another repercussion from her injury caused her to lose some of her memories. There's a tiny chance she won't remember anything from her childhood or anything from the night of the sleepover at all. Which then made the DiLaurentis household to move to New York so that Ali can receive a proper treatment, but after 2 years there's still no progress.
"Ali, here eat your meds." Mrs. D gave a small cup full of colourful pills and a glass of water to Ali.
"Thank you, mom" Ali shoved the pills inside her mouth and quickly drank the water her mother had given her.
Mrs. D went to the kitchen after she's sure that Ali had taken the pills. However, unbeknownst to her, Ali had been faking her swallowing technique and vomiting the pills when her mother's away, but this still caused her to have a mild migraine a few times because unbeknownst to Ali as well, her mother had put another pill inside the water as an assurance.
"Mom, when are we gonna go back to Rosewood?"
"Don't you like it here?"
"It's boring. Nothing interesting ever happen here..."
Mrs. D laughed subtly. She put her hands around Ali's shoulder and said, "Oh honey, I missed home too but you know that this is for your own good."
Ali scrunched her nose. 'I need to go back to Rosewood. There's something I have to do. But how?' thought Ali. She cleared her throat. Ali then said with her arms crossed, "I missed the girls. I haven't called them once ever since we got here. I'm sure they can help me remember. Especially since they're the last people I met at the sleepover."
" I said NO Ali."
" Why? Don't you want me to remember? Don't you want to catch the person who did this to me? Mom... don't you love me? I'm your daughter."
"I still don't understand why you would sell our house."
"That neighborhood was the last place our daughter went to before she ended up missing. It might give her shock if she have to live there. She's just recovering. Do you want her to have a trauma?"
Ali's parents kept on bickering while Jason followed from behind using his own car. Ali on the other hand was so elated that she's finally coming back. She'll finally regain her throne again. The cars stopped right in front of a huge house. "Wow, you really went all out," said Jason from inside his Hummer.
Ali looked around the house. The lawn is pretty spacious and there's even a pool at the backyard. Although the house kinda looked like a human face which is a minus. Her parents went to Jason's car and took their own baggages. "Ali, bring your clothes inside!" Mrs. D ordered as she open the front door of their new house.
"In a minute," Ali took a few deep breaths and exhaled. She closed her eyes.
"Ali? Alison... DiLaurentis?"
Ali turned around to see a young brunette gaping at her. Ali chuckled nervously as she said, "You must be the neighbor. Excuse my manner. My family and I just moved here from New York."
"You're Alison DiLaurentis, right?"
"Yeah. And...you are?"
"Spencer. Hastings."
"Ali!" Mrs. D shouted. She's standing at the door frame with her hand on her waist. "Come inside. It's about to rain. You'll get sick if you stay there," said Mrs. D with a narrowed look on Spencer.
"Sorry, I have to go. Maybe we can catch up tomorrow. You go to Rosewood Day, right?" Ali opened the trunk and lifted a black baggage. She then placed it beside her. "What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?" She gave Spencer a wink before pulling her bag inside her new home. Leaving Spencer speechless.
She pretended to fall asleep when her mother went to her room to call her. Her family's going to the Grille to have lunch but upon seeing Ali sleeping, Mrs. D didn't have the heart to wake her up. Ali waited until the car left the driveway to dress up. She wore a yellow sundress matched with a nirvana sweater since it's raining. After that, she took the keys on the coffee table and drove her brother's hummer to her old neighborhood.
She expected the moving truck and some old furniture at the driveway. What she didn't expect was seeing a girl kissing another girl through an open window in her old bedroom. She shifted uncomfortably at the sight. Ali removed her gaze from the couple as she walked to her old lawn.
Ding dong!
Ali rang the bell, indicating her appearance. A few minutes later, she heard footsteps just behind the door.
"Hey?"
A beautiful girl opened the door. "Hi, I'm Alison DiLaurentis. My family and I lived here before. And...I was wondering if I can take my stuff from my old bedroom? If it's not an inconvenience."
"DiLaurentis? Oh, my mom said you guys are living here again! Uhm, I'm Maya. Anyway...uhmmm...of course. You can. I just have a company right now. Know what, how about I'll send your medals and stuff... tomorrow. After school."
"I don't care about the medals. You can... burn it. Whatever. I don't care. But, if you found a journal...I want you to give it to me. Right away. It's a leather-covered journal. And make sure you look in the air vent in my room... I mean your room. If there's something there, I want you to give it to me."
"Okay. I'll check the room. You go to Rosewood Day too, right?" The beautiful girl asked with genuine interest.
"Yeah, I..."
"Ali?" A small voice stopped Ali from continuing her words. A tan brunette with a shocked expression was staring at her. "Oh my gosh, It's really you! When did you get back? Are you staying here for real? You have to tell me everything," Emily said excitedly as if Ali never hurt her.
"Hey, killer!" Said Ali nervously. "Maybe we can catch up later. I have to go now."
"No, wait. Why don't we do that now? Plus I can see your new house. Maybe we'll have some sleepover. Next time...I mean."
"Are you sure? I don't wanna impose." Said Ali while looking at the beautiful girl beside her killer. "Or maybe we can do that tomorrow?"
"It's okay. If Emily want to hangout with her best friend, I'm pretty sure I have no say in that. And...she really missed you, Alison."
"Thanks Maya. I'll see you tonight."
"Do you remember that time when we snuck into Jason's bedroom and stole his bong?"
Ali smiled at the memory. "Yeah. We used some sorta seed, right?"
Emily chuckled at the thought. They were all very young at that time. So innocent and sweet. "We didn't get high but we pretended anyway. Except for Spencer. She kept on saying, "It didn't work," over and over again."
The girls burst into laughter until Emily suddenly said, "It's 4.56 already. Hey, let's make a wish!" As she closed her eyes.
"I thought that's 1.11?" Said Ali with her eyes still fixed on Emily's. She went closer to Emily and waited until the other girl opened her eyes.
Her breath hitched as Ali's face was a mere centimeters from herself. Ali was staring at her eyes like she's a complex equation that need solving as she bit her lower lip with a bit self consciousness. The sound of a car coming into the driveway broke their trance. Ali scratched her neck as she said, "That's my parents. Can you see yourself out? I'm kinda worn out right now."
"Sure. Aria's back by the way."
"Grande?"
" Who?" Asked Emily with an obvious confusion.
"No one." Replied Ali a little too quickly.
Not long after Emily left, Ali went straight to bed. Especially since her migraine had been acting up.
'A box? What's so important about this?' Maya thought to herself. "Whatever. One thing settled. Now, where did I saw that journal? I'm sure I've seen it somewhere. Was it at the driveway?" Said Maya while taking a few drag from her joint. Then, someone knocked her front door. She got up lazily.
"Well hello, killer."
"Shut up," Emily playfully nudged Maya's shoulder. Both of them went inside. Unknown to them, someone was watching their interaction from the Cavanaugh's home.
