Walter was still working on the coding that was necessary to do what was required by the drug runners .He was being looked after in a fashion ,he was being fed and watered but he was still a prisoner . He was kept locked in during the day while he worked ,and again locked up at night when he was put in his sleeping quarters .How he wished he had Happy with him ,she would have had the locks open in minutes . Toby would have been useful to read Agent Ricker and the members of the drug dealers . he missed Paige most of all ,she was his comfort blanket who could calm him down with a touch or a simple look , oh how he missed her touch and her soft sensual lips on his . He suddenly realised he had been daydreaming pulled himself together and checked his computer . What he did not know or even realize was that just thirty minutes away the people he was daydreaming about were about to launch a rescue mission .
Back at the S.U.V. ,planning was going ahead for the rescue . Rusty was explaining that they would need Nick to be involved and asked Happy would she be O.K. staying behind to protect the others . Before Happy could answer Paige spoke up .""Wait just a minute Rusty , Happy could provide more fire power for you . Toby should also go in case any one needs medical attention and if you think i am going to stay here on my own-THINK AGAIN ." Rusty's jaw dropped with shock hearing what Paige had said ,but before he had a chance to reply Paige continued to speak ."Walter was our boss and friend and i know we all would want to be there when he is rescued no we need to be there . We are responsible as anyone for what has happened ,Walter would not be thinking straight after what has happened over the last eight weeks . If we or I at least had not responded to my insane jealousy that night we would all still be together and on this job . In which case i am sure Toby would have picked up on Agent Ricker's lies and subterfuge .So yes we need to be there to help." Rusty looked over at Cabe who just shrugged his shoulders and said "You heard the lady." He turned to Paige with a smile on his face and said . "Moma bear as been resurrected i see, good to see you back to something like your old self kid ." Rusty while still looking as if he could not understand what had just happened . Cabe spoke to him ."This is the old Scorpion teamwork coming out they may all seem weak ,except Happy ." he added seeing the glare he was getting from her ."They know how to work together and will keep out of the way until you tell them different ." Turning to Paige and Toby ."YOU WILL WON'T YOU !" and to Happy ."You will have to follow Rusty's orders no arguing " All three just nodded their heads , a big smile appearing on Happy's face .
Over the next hour , Rusty ,Nick and Cabe studied the photo's again working on the best way to attack the compound . They finally decided on a four prong attack with Rusty , Nick , Simone and Cabe each taking one side of the compound , Happy was to act as a fifth position as and when required but also had the unenviable task of keeping an eye on Paige and Toby . They all decided to take a rest until 20.00 hours ,Cabe set his alarm on his watch . then they all either went into the car or lay down on the forest floor , that is except for Rusty who took it upon himself to stand guard ,just in case . After what seemed like no time at all the alarm went off on Cabes 'watch , rubbing his eyes he got up and went around all the others to ensure they were all awake . They gathered together all the arms and ammunition they thought they may need and split them between them including Paige , Toby and Happy ,if they were going then they were carrying equipment the same as the others . Paige also made up a small parcel of food that was left over to give Simone as she had been out on her own for a long time .
They moved from the S.U.V. and disappeared into the woodland in total silence ,from now on all instructions would be by hand signals only . After about thirty minutes they were approaching the compound when suddenly without any warning Simone stepped out in front of them . Putting her finger up to her mouth to indicate silence she signalled for them to follow her . She moved about a hundred yards into the woods away from the compound .She signalled them to stop by putting up her hand ,they all complied and she moved over to Rusty and lent in close and whispered into his ear ."Walter as been moved from the hut with the generator to what appears to be sleeping quarters . As far as i can see he is left alone in there until morning , although i cannot be sure as i have not seen that ,but would be my guess ." "Good job , now we know Walter as been moved you will be responsible for rescuing Walter and keeping him safe bring him back this way were Nick will be stationed with the grenade launcher and looking after Paige and Toby .Cabe ,Happy and myself will position our selves on the other three sides . Nick your first job will be to take out the hut with the generator using the grenade launcher ,this was Walters workplace so must contain the computers . Right it is now 21 .20 hours i suggest we start the attack at 23.00 hours lets synchronise our watches . that should give us plenty of time to set things up .Happy you take the left hand side and set up there ,Cabe you take the side opposite Happy I'II cover from the far side ,you two pointing at Paige and Toby stay out of site some distance back from Nick and do not move until you are called .If all goes well we may only need Toby for their wounded ,and Paige we may need you to keep Walter calm as we have no idea what he has been through these past few days . Remember the attack will begin as soon as Nick fires the grenades . " Rusty gave all these instructions in a whisper but his authority still came though . Everyone began to move ,Nick leading Paige and Toby ,the other three setting off in their own direction . Nick made sure Paige and Toby stay about one hundred yards behind him because he knew there was a good chance he would have to deal with incoming fire .
As the time approached for the attack to take place , Paige was getting more and more nervous as well as apprehensive ,would Walter be O.K. , would he even be prepared to talk to her ,would she be able to repair some of the damage she caused with her caustic words and actions . She had her fingers and anything else she could crossed ,that she would be able to heal some if not all of the wounds . Her thoughts were suddenly broken by a large WHOOSH and explosion as Nick had fired the grenade launcher which had hit the workshop and blown it into hundreds of pieces .At the sound of the explosion all hell let loose in the compound . Men began coming out of various huts carrying automatic weapons ,but before any could open fire four fell to the ground with a bullet hitting them in the head . The drug runners began to return fire ,but the four people on the outside of the compound were firing and moving giving the drug runners little to aim at . Soon after over half the drug runners were dead or injured . During the fighting Simone had worked her way to the back of the hut she had seen Walter taken into earlier that night . She removed a large knife from her utility belt and started to work on the wall in a minute she had made a hole large enough to put her hand in, she then grabbed the edge of the hole and pulled the plank out the way ,she then pulled four more boards off so by then she could see inside the hut . Walter was awake and saw Simone ,she called him over , he approached her with a little trepidation , but when he was closer ,Simone spoke. "Cabe sent me ." That was enough for Walter he picked up his pace and squeezed through the hole . Gunfire was all around but it did not seem to bother Simone so Walter felt safe and followed her . Within seconds she had blended in with the trees and was heading towards Nick .
All the time this was going on ,the drug runners numbers were dwindling rapidly ,within five minutes the remaining gang members had put their guns down and surrender by putting their hands up . "Are there anymore of you?" Shouted Rusty as he appeared from the woods his rifle ready ."NO ." answered one of the survivors "Where is your leader ?" Rusty spat out . One of the gang pointed to a body with a large chest wound . By this time Rusty had been joined by two other members of the team ,Happy and Cabe .Rusty shouted across to Nick to join them and bring Paige and Toby with him ,by this time Simone and Walter had reached Nick so Nick instructed them to join Rusty and the others while he collected the other two . Nick walked back to were he had left Paige and Toby and bought them out into the compound . "Toby can you check on the dead and wounded , Happy you go to give him protection ." Ordered Rusty . "O.K. boss ." replied Toby and set about his task ,he had bought his medical bag but would probably need extra supplies so he went to one of the wounded to ask if they had medical supplies on site . He pointed to one of the huts .Toby and Happy walked over ,Happy opened the door and checked inside before allowing Toby in .Once inside he sorted out what he needed and began treating the injured .Paige was so nervous when she saw Walter who just looked straight into her eyes as if they had never been apart . Walter could hardly speak but managed ." You all came to help me ?" By this time both Paige and Walter had tears running down their cheeks . Walter held his arms out and Paige at first not sure what to do ,ran over into his open arms and hugged him as he hugged back ."I am so sorry what as happened i never meant to be so mean but my jealousy and abandonment issues just took over ." "Lets talk about it later lets just clear up here and get back to L.A. earthquake and all ." Once Toby had checked all the injured and dead he reported back to Rusty . "Eight dead ,four wounded ,none of which are life threatening . "WALTER." Rusty shouted him to bring him out of the daze as he hugged Paige . Once he had his attention he asked ."One of the gang pointed out that guy out as the leader ,but could you check just to make sure , in case he was trying to fool us ." "Yes that is Migel the leader ,i see you blew the computer shed up so it is a good job i managed to copy all the files on this before you blew it up ." Said Walter holding up a memory stick like a magician .
Happy came over to Walter and gave him a hug much to his surprise . "I'm sorry ." she said . "We will talk later ." replied Walter . In the meantime Cabe had retrieved his satellite phone from his backpack . "I had better check in with Katherine to see if she can get people to clear up the area and get medical care to assist the injured ." He walked away from the group and dialled Katherine's number ,even at this late hour . "Cabe !" Katherine answered . "Sorry it's so late but we have rescued Walter and he is well ,no injuries to him this time . But we do have a mess to sort out here ,they were a drug gang ,a heavily armed group .There are eight dead and four wounded ,and a lot of buildings to search . Giving Katherine a broad outline of the situation . "O.K. if they were drug runners are there any drugs to be removed ?"Asked Katherine . "We have not searched any of the huts yet ,i will ask Rusty to arrange it ." Replied Cabe . "Right give me about thirty minutes to see what i can do and then i will call you back , in the mean time look after yourself and the others . " Said Katherine before disconnecting the call . Cabe rejoined the group and informed them what Katherine had said . Immediately Rusty had Simone and Nick searching the buildings one by one . Walter and Paige seemed unable to do anything but hug each other . Toby stood watching what was going on between them ,while a knowing smile on his face got bigger . Happy stood by him with a massive grin on her face . After about twenty minutes Simone and Nick had completed the search of the buildings ,finding approximately thirty kilos of Heroin . Katherine was back on the phone inside of forty-five minutes . "Cabe ,the C.I.A, have an office close by so they will be sending Agents ,together with medical help and also some law enforcement who they can trust . But it will be a few hours before they get there , will you and the team be alright until then ?" Queried Katherine . "That will be fine the buildings will give us shelter and cover for the wounded and we can have two people on guard . I will call you when the reinforcements arrive , till then have a goodnight ." With that Cabe disconnected the phone and rejoined the others . Cabe explained what Katherine had told him . Rusty immediately put himself and Nick as guards and told Simone to get some rest has she had been standing all day . Toby helped Cabe to move the wounded into one of the buildings and made sure the building was locked down .Walter took Paige over to the building he slept in ,even with a large hole in the back wall it would still provide sufficient cover . Happy ,Toby, Cabe and Simone made their way over to another building to try and get some shut eye .
Walter and Paige sat on the edge of the bed hands still clamped together as if superglue had been applied. "Why would you all come out here to help me ? The last time i saw you ,you were slamming the garage door behind you ." Asked Walter still not believing he was sitting so close to Paige. "I was a complete witch that night my jealousy and abandonment issues raised their ugly head ,and when Florence said she had feelings for you ,my mind just imaged you with her as she was on a more I.Q. level than me . So i left you before you left me ." Replied Paige as tears again began to run down her cheeks . "But i know now just how much you mean to me ,i have been miserable every day since i left you . But i could not get the nerve up to contact you because i imagined you would just reject me , and i know that would have killed me . I am so sorry Walter." "There is nothing to be sorry for i was at fault for not telling you about the lecture . For weeks i had worried and replayed what would happen if i told you the truth ,as it was only a white lie .I asked Toby for advice ,but what he told me confused me even more .""What did he tell you Walter ." "Well he said if i told you i would feel a lot better ,but you would feel really hurt and miserable . If i did not tell you , i would feel worse but as you did not know you would remain happy ." "So that is why you did not tell me . I think a word with Toby is in order ." Said Paige . " Has Sly not forgiven me ,seeing as he did not come ."Asked Walter . "To be honest ,i do not know . Just over three weeks ago , he had a mental breakdown and was hospitalized , unable to talk or move ,although he is on heavy medication he does not seem to be responding to the treatment ." Explained Paige . "What ever happened to cause that ?" Asked Walter . Paige went on to explain about the letter and what the doctor told them . She then went on to explain how and why they had to shut down Centipede Partners .Walter was shocked but was full of sympathy for Paige and the rest of the team ,finally he asked the question he was dreading "How is Ralph doing ?" "He as regressed a lot since the split , i did not help by forbidding him to contact you ,only because i was still mad at you . But i honestly forgot i had banned him ,i am so sorry Walter , he as refused to do any work for C.P. . His school and college does not seem to have suffered but he rarely speaks to me and will have nothing at all to do with the rest ."Answered a truthful Paige ." If you have closed C.P. what are you doing for money ?" Asked Walter with a worried shake to his voice . "Well Happy and Toby are setting up her father's garage for when he his realeased . I have been living on a few savings i have got ,i could not go back to waiting on tables ." Walter was shocked how things had turned out for them . "Why did you not contact me ?" Questioned Walter . "As i said earlier i could not accept rejection it would have killed me . I was certain you would have put the phone down on me or slammed the garage door in my face ." Replied Paige as tears again began to roll down her cheeks . Walter just sat there his mouth having opened wide in shock to what Paige had said . "You were and still are the love of my life that as never changed ,i would have welcomed you back with open arms as i did today ." "I have been such an idiot and fool . Why could i not kerb my temper that night ." Said Paige through the sobbing ." Lets not worry about the past just look to a new and exciting future . I need to work out what to do ,the garage is gone all my belongings are gone ,but if you will stay by my side i will build everything back up . Now rest until the reinforcements arrive ." With that they both lay down ,Walter's arm around Paige and her head resting on his chest . A few hours later they were awakened by a knocking on the door . Walter who had not really slept shook Paige gently ,she murmured and snuggled back against him . " Come on sleepy head ,it seems the other people have arrived ." Walter whispered Walter into her ear . With that Paige rolled on to her back and began to rise ,once she was up ,both of them moved towards the door and opened it to see Cabe with a big smile on his face . "We will be moving out in about a hour ,the injured have already been taken to the hospital . The new crew that have arrived are busy dismantling all the drug equipment and packing the drugs that were found so they can be transported safely ." Explained Cabe .
After about a hour they had all climbed into the S.U.V. Paige and Walter were in the two seats at the back , the others were in the other seats a little crushed due to Walter being an extra passenger to on the way out .They arrived back at the hotel and rebooked their rooms . Walter and Paige had one room ,Happy and Toby shared ,Rusty and Nick ,and surprisingly Simone agreed to share with Cabe ,with a warning no touching if he wanted to keep all his bits . Next morning after sampling the buffet they left for the airport . After boarding the plane they all settled in the plush seats . Walter and Paige sitting in the two seats at the front of the cabin. Once in the air everyone began to feel relaxed and were just enjoying everyone's company . Walter turned to Paige "After we sort a few things out back home i am thinking of going to Ireland to visit my parents and try and mend a few bridges . I would love you and Ralph to come with me so i can introduce my Fiance and her son to them .Casually spoke Walter . "What did you just say ?"asked Paige in a shocked voice . "Oh i think i have just jumped the gun , i suppose i should have asked the question first , Paige will you marry me ?" Paige 's eyes opened wide and her mouth dropped she struggled to speak and then suddenly reacted and reached over and pulled Walters face to hers and began kissing ,in between each kiss she said yes . Eventually she slowed down and out the corner of her eye she noticed all the other team members watching . Toby nudged Happy and whispered . "Walter just asked Paige to marry him ." "No way ." Said Happy . At that Walter stood up and turned towards the team "Paige as just agreed to marry me ." Said a smirking Walter .The whole plane broke out in applause and cheers . Once everyone had been up to the couple to offer congratulations with hugs and kisses ,the rest of the flight was done in relative silence . Most of the team took the chance to catch up on some shut eye . Walter still had his arm around Paige as if he was afraid she would disappear , she on the other hand had just cuddled closer and put her head on his chest ,a few moments later she was falling asleep ,a light purring coming from her mouth .
Around 19.00 hours the plane landed at Palmdale airport .Katherine had arranged for two S.U.V.'s to be waiting for them at the airport . Once they had cleared customs ,it was decided that Toby , Happy and Paige would go in the one car ,despite the fact that at first Paige refused to leave Walter's side . It was not until Walter explained she needed to go to Allie's to check on Ralph and after a promise by Walter he would meet with her at the condo once he had finished a debriefing with Katherine ,she reluctantly agreed to the plan. Walter ,Cabe ,Rusty ,Simone and Nick all went in the other car to Homeland to a debrief with Katherine .
