Chapter 2
The Dragneel family was out in the middle of nowhere trending through the thick snow. While they were at the Christmas Tree farm, Natsu had gotten into a fight with the salesman over the high demand prices. Due to his outburst, the salesman kicked Natsu out.
Natsu figured if these jerks were going to go overboard for the price of a Christmas Tree, he might as well get one for free, in his own chaotic and illegal way. The family is having a hard time trending through the snow, but Natsu paid it no mind.
Natsu inhaled the air through his nose. "How about the fresh air, kids? You know what that smell is?"
Romeo sniffed the air. "It smells like pinesol."
"I'm talking about the feeling," Natsu told Romeo. "Doesn't it have that nice Christmasty smell?"
Exhaustingly trending through the snow, Lucy said, "Natsu, can you just pick out a tree already? I'm freezing my butt out here and could use a nice hot bath."
"My toes are starting to get numb," Chelia complained as she was freezing. She honestly brought the wrong stuff to wear if she knew they were going to be trending in the snow.
Lucy points to a tree she liked. "There's a nice one over there."
Natsu considers the tree briefly, but rejects it. "The bottom's all dead, babe. A deer probably peed on it."
They continue their march through the snow.
"Dad," Romeo spoke. "Didn't they invent Christmas Tree farms so people wouldn't have to drive all the way out to nowhere and waste a whole Saturday?"
"I can't feel my legs now," Chelia complained once more.
Natsu replied, "People back in the good old days use to go out in the woods, picked out that special tree and cut it down with their bare hands so they wouldn't have to waste money in stupid overpriced trees that were probably ugly anyway."
"Mom, I can't feel my hips," Chelia said, feeling like her body was becoming a human popsicle.
"Natsu, please, hurry up," Lucy insisted. "Chelia's frozen from the waist down. The problem would be resolved easily if there were any hot springs out here."
Scanning the forest for more trees, one caught Natsu's eye. It was the tree he was looking for. "There it is!"
It was a perfectly shaped Christmas Tree. It was about 20 feet tall.
"There she is," Natsu told the family. "Behold, the Dragneel family Christmas Tree." Natsu looks up and admires the tree. The family gathers around him.
Natsu, isn't it a little big?" Lucy asked him, looking at the size and analyzing it from the size of their house.
Natsu replied, "Nah, it's not that big. It might look full, but I'm sure it will be different once we get it into the house."
"Dad, there's no way that tree will fit into the house," Romeo doubted.
"Come on, where's your Christmas spirit," Natsu told his family. "Think positive. I mean don't you think it's a beautiful tree, Lucy?"
Lucy looked at it for a second and had to admit, it was a magnificent tree. "It is a pretty good tree."
"What do you think, Chelia?" Natsu asked.
Noticing her eyes were frozen shut, Lucy said, "She'll tell you once she has a nice hot shower."
As the family was enjoying admiring their soon to be Christmas Tree, the good moment was broken when Romeo asked, "Dad, did you bring a saw?"
Natsu's smile disappeared when he realized his predicament. He doesn't care to admit his mistake, but he was going to have this Christmas Tree, saw or not.
An hour later, the Dragneel family was in the car driving home with their Christmas Tree. Natsu managed to get three by ripping it right off the ground. Sticking out from the bottom of the tree was a chunk of the ground and a ball of roots. Lucy was amazed that they made it home with the tree without being pulled over by the police to explain why their tree stood out.
(Later that Night)
The neighborhood the Dragneel's lived in was a nice looking one, especially for middle class families. The tree was resting on the roof of the car. As the garage door opened, Natsu came out with a chainsaw wearing a hockey mask.
Next door from their house and coming up their driveway were a young couple who were the Dragneel's next door neighbors, the Cheney's. They were a handsome and beautiful couple, wearing trench coats and looked like professionals. Their names were Rogue and Minerva.
As the two couples got out of their car, Rogue couldn't help but laugh when he saw the predicament of the tree. He looked at Minerva and said, "Looks like the toad overestimated the height of his living room ceiling."
Just when Natsu was about to turn on the chainsaw to cut the chunk of ground off the stump of the tree, Rogue called out to him. "Hey, Dragneel! Where do you think you're going to put a tree that big?"
Natsu was annoyed enough already and didn't want to hear it from the Cheney's. He calls out, "Bend over and I'll show you!"
Rogue's smile faded and replied, "You got a lot of nerve talking to me like that!"
Natsu grins and replies back, "I wasn't talking to you." He then pointed to his wife, Minerva.
Minerva gasps in horror. She and Rogue immediately went into the house before Natsu could say anything else as he began to use the chainsaw on the tree.
About 15 minutes later, Natsu was able to get rid of the chuck of ground off the bottom of the tree and dragged it into the house. Natsu realized the tree was bigger than he expected that he had to trim the top and bottom.
Still concerned about the size of the tree, Lucy asked, "Natsu, is there enough room for the star?"
Realizing the tree was still sticking to the ceiling, Natsu replied, "Yeah, there'll be plenty of room. It needs a little more trimming, but it won't be a problem." He got the hedge scissors to let loose the tree. "I give you the Dragneel family Christmas Tree." As soon as the tree was let loose from the ropes, the branches went flying everywhere and one of them crashed through the living room window.
Chelia sighed. "As usual, you overdo it again, dad."
Keeping his spirits up, Natsu said, "Just watch. Once I'm done, this Christmas Tree is going to be great. Although, there is a lot of sap in here."
