Chapter Six

Small inlet off the Crighton river

Burt and Curt Frazer are seated side by side facing opposite directions in their Excursion 5 inflatable boat, their poles in the water waiting for a bite when suddenly the boat bumped against something. Looking to see what it could have been is when they saw her floating face up in the water.

Curt instantly jumped in the water shouting to his brother "Let's get her in the boat start CPR."

As Burt began the emergency procedure for drowning victims Curt got on the two-way radio the boys always took with them and yelled "Mom. Dad. Pick up. We have an emergency."

Vilene Frazer hearing the word emergency frantically ran to where the wall mounted radio hung believing one of her sons was in trouble. Snatching the mike from its cradle she shouted back "Burt, Curt", even after 15 years she was never sure which one she was talking to, "what's the problem?"

"We've pulled a drowning woman from the water. Call 911. Burt is giving her CPR. Should be at the pier in 10 minutes."

"Got it, now hurry back." She replied then replaced the mike, picked up the telephone and dialed 911.

The Precinct

It was almost 7:00PM when the call came in. The group of Castle, Beckett and Shaw were just getting ready to call it a night, head to Montavoni's for dinner. Beckett had sent Ryan and Esposito home thirty minutes earlier, so she didn't see the need to call them back. The three of them could handle this.

Westchester County Hospital

It took them just over an hour to get to the Westchester County Hospital in Yorktown Heights. Beckett immediately went to find the patient and her doctor, Ashley Morgan; Shaw to find Westchester County Sheriff Carl Burgess; Castle to locate the EMTs that brought Ashley here. As luck would have it they were all sitting in the hospital lunchroom.

From the EMTs Castle learned that it was the immediate action by the Frazer boys that probably saved Ashley. He also learned it was EMT Nathan that recognized her, he had been in a same class with her at Columbia.

Agent Shaw was able to get copies of the statements the Frazer boys gave Sheriff Burgess. The statements gave her an exact location of where Ashley was rescued. It would be where she and the other could backtrack from. Maybe discover Ashley's point of origin and hopefully the killers liar.

Beckett wasn't having the same luck. She found Ashley and her attending physician, Dr. Madeline Quinn, but as far as being able to get any kind of statement she was out of luck. Ashley was having convulsions, running a fever, trouble breathing, coughing, low blood pressure and slow heartbeat.

Doctor Madeline Quinn told Beckett the LBP, reduced heartrate and slow breathing could be attributed to dehydration but not the convulsions or coughing.

Beckett pulled out her phone, placed a call to Lanie, repeated the symptoms given to her by Dr. Quinn, asked if she knew what could be causing them. Lanie told Kate to put her on speaker, "okay Lanie go ahead."

"Dr. Quinn" Lanie began "I am Dr. Lanie Parrish chief medical examiner for the 12th precinct. "I would like for you to pull a new blood sample and run a test for C-quillaprin…"

"Hold on a second Dr. Parrish" Dr. Quinn said then turned, gave a nurse the same instructions. "And if I find this C-quillaprin…"

"That will depend on the percentage although I don't expect it to be greater than 15 percent. You will need to counteract it with a 15 percent solution of Isopromideurea added to what you're giving her now."

"What makes you so sure…"

"Because it's what I found in one of the other girls." Lanie answered before Dr. Quinn could complete what she was going to ask.

"Very well. Thank you Dr. Parrish."

"You are welcome. Call me if you have any questions or concerns." The line then went dead as Lanie disconnected the call.

"I take it that she is quite busy" Dr. Quinn said as Kate slipped her phone back into her pocket. "One of the best in the city" Kate was quick to reply.

Just then the nurse who had taken Ashley Morgan's blood sample to the lab returned with the news, C-quillaprin, 15 percent. Dr. Quinn then sent her after another bag with the appropriate counteractive medication.

As the nurse ran off Beckett was joined by Castle and Jordan, "Ashley going to make it" Jordan asked?"

"Yeah thanks to Lanie" Beckett responded.

"Well what do say we go get some dinner. I'm starving" Castle said, "and the sheriff has informed me the Yorktown Coach Diner is only two blocks from here, has some of the best food in the city."

"He's right about that" confirmed Dr. Quinn, "and it will be awhile before we start to see any results from the meds. So go ahead."

The three amigos had just completed placing their food order when Castle's phone began chirping. Knowing who it was he answered it in a professional manner "Major Rodgers speaking." Keeping his answers concise replying with only "yes sir" or "no sir" he finished the call saying, "thank you sir, I'll let everyone know."

"Who was that" Kate instantly asked.

"Montgomery," Rick answered.

"No, no" that's not how you talk to Roy."

"Sure it is when…"

"When what?"

"When we want to mess with you."

"Yeah, well we'll see who messes with who when we get home tonight."

"We're not going home tonight."

"We're not."

"Nope. Been ordered to stay here, keep watch on Ashley. Tomorrow we start searching the woods."

"Clothes Rick. I'm not…"

"Taken care of."

"Oh yeah, by…"

"Lanie, she's going by your place packing what you'll need."

"Okay but we're going…"

"Ryan, Espo, LT and Hastings will be here in the morning. Lanie and Alexis are coming also, as our medical team. Sheriff Burgess is sending a Protection Detail for Ashley we will have the expertise of the Frazer boys who claim to know these woods better than anybody."

Jordan Shaw just sat and listened as her two comrades bantered back and forth. She was always amazed how Rick could read Kate, how he could set her up, so she had no choice but ask the questions he wanted her to ask in the order he wanted them asked. That way he always had the answer ready.

"Foods here. Let 's eat," Rick announced as DeAnna their waitress set down his Leaning Tower of Pisa double meat cheeseburger with tomato, onion, bacon, pickles and whatever else they could find to stack on it.
