Author's Note: I want Rory to have a very sensible twin brother. And what? This is like 3k words 0_o
Having tucked Trixie in, Chloe exits her daughter's room and plans to grab a glass of wine or two when she hears a noise. At first, she thinks it is Dan or more like Dan's ghost, but then decides it's unlikely (and that she wouldn't be able to see him anyway — Lucifer's words) and thinks it's Lucifer instead.
But no man is wearing a three-piece suit in her immediate vicinity. Her boyfriend made it a point to announce his arrival in a normal-ish way as a courtesy to her.
She sighs upon seeing an open window and thinks that that what made the noise. Chloe gasps, surprised to find an unfamiliar face when she turns around. The young lady doesn't even let the former Detective recover from her shock when the former wraps her arms around the latter.
The young lady convinced Chloe that she is indeed their — Lucifer and hers — daughter from the future. The blonde couldn't really explain it, but there's a sense of familiarity even though they just met. It's surreal and a little overwhelming, but Chloe knows this is her life now.
Just then, someone else makes their presence known. He has the same hair color as Rory's, except his eyes are green.
"Do I get a hug too? R, seriously, I've been looking everywhere for you. I should've looked here first. Why the heck didn't we end up in the same location, though?"
Rory frowns and tells the young man, "What the hell are you doing here?"
The young man rolls his eyes and exasperates, "So, I went to the bathroom to take a leak, and when I came downstairs, I saw you being sucked by this portal, and I followed you."
"Why?"
The young man scoffs and replies, "Oh, I wonder who's going to get an earful from T if I didn't. After all, I am the responsible and sensible twin."
"Okay, guys. I'm standing right here. And who are you?"
"Oh, right! I'm Zain, Rory's twin. Younger by 5 minutes or so, I'm told. Hi, mom!" Zain couldn't contain his excitement and proceeded to hug Chloe. "Can I have a sandwich?"
"I-I'm confused."
"About the sandwich?"
"Shut up, Z."
They find themselves in the penthouse the following day, among two bemused individuals, namely, Chloe and Lucifer.
"Time travel? Seriously?"
"Well, Amenadiel can stop time, so time travel isn't that far-fetched, right?"
"If you put it like that. We have twins?" Lucifer's face is hesitant at first at the revelation, but as the information sinks in, his face morphs into that of pure joy, "We have twins."
Chloe nods, "Yeah."
"Then there must be some mistake," He looks at Rory, remembering the night before where her wings threaten to snuff the life out of him, "Because I would never abandon my children."
"But you did."
Zain sighs loudly and interrupts the conversation.
"Ugh, R, seriously."
"He abandoned you, too, Zain. So stop acting like he didn't."
"Well, the thing is, I know why he did what he did."
"What? How?"
"Duh. I asked him. I went to Hell in our own timeline and asked him. It's that simple."
"And you didn't tell me this; why?"
"Because you didn't ask." Zain shrugs which irritated Rory more. He could have saved them a trip if he had just told her. "I can tell you this, R. Your anger is misplaced. Didn't you ever wonder why Mom never hated Dad? Why she always tells us how much she loves him? You have no idea."
"Well, go ahead and enlighten me."
The twins bicker as if no one else is with them, and this amuses Lucifer. He and Michael used to do this and then play pranks on their other siblings.
"No. I think this is a good opportunity for you to know Dad. Unless you can send us back this instant."
"I tried," But Zain cuts his twin off and continues with,
"Yeah, I didn't think so. For now, Mom, how about a date at my favorite restaurant? You're not doing anything, are you?"
"I-I guess not." Their mother responds after surmising there's no need to solve this mystery.
"Cool!" Zain takes Chloe's hands, leads her to the balcony, and unfurls his wings. Unlike Rory's, his wings are as white as snow, just like Lucifer's.
"Whoa. But, you're going to..."
"I'm a lot stronger than I look. Mom."
"Right."
"Rory, don't mess this up. I'll hang with you later, Dad." The young man waved, and then they were gone, leaving Lucifer and Rory staring.
"He called me 'Dad,'" He mutters, a questioning statement at first but then, "He called me 'Dad.'"
"Ugh."
"Now, whatever shall we do?"
Rory rolls her eyes.
Chloe excuses herself and heads for the restroom at Sol De Javier's, leaving Zain on his lonesome, enjoying his favorite meal. He looks up and spots Ella and can't help himself.
"Aunt Ella!"
Ella turns her head and raises her brows at the title. Is this one of his brother's children that she's not aware of?
"Uhhh, who are you?"
"Oh, I'm Zain Morningstar."
"M— are you...?"
"Yep."
Ella is clearly surprised that she is unable to speak but recovers after about five seconds.
"Oh my God, does Chloe know?"
"Of course, she knows! I'm her son, too."
"Whoa! They process adoption papers that fast?"
"Oh, no, no, no! I'm their biological child, like, from the future."
"Ahhhhh," The forensic scientist looks left and right and then drags the young man just outside of the restaurant. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"Oh, they haven't told you yet, have they? About celestials and the whole Heaven and Hell exist thing?"
"What? So it's all true? Lucifer is really the Devil?"
"Yes! Time travel, too, apparently. But don't fret, Aunt Ella. They're not excluding you or anything. You are, in fact, the inner circle."
"I don't exactly know what that means,"
"It means it's a good thing. Just ask Dad to show you. You know he never lies."
"I'll take that under advisement."
"Cool. So I gotta get back inside. Don't want to freak out Mom more than she already is."
"Uh-huh."
"See ya. Just ask him, ok? And don't get wasted on Aunt Maze and Eve's wedding."
Maybe he shouldn't have said that, but oh well, oops.
Ella pulls Lucifer to the side. Zain entertains Chloe and Trixie while Rory is nowhere to be seen.
"I just need you to tell me, Lucifer. You're really the Devil, aren't you? Not just some method actor?"
Lucifer opens his mouth to speak and hesitates for a bit but decides she has the right to know. Maybe she'll believe him this time around.
"I am, Miss Lopez."
"Can you show me?"
"Show you what exactly?"
"Proof, of course. I already believe in Heaven and Hell, so you don't have to worry about me freaking out. I just don't want to be the last to know, you know. Wait, am I?"
"Uhhh,"
"Never mind. Just show me."
"Very well, Miss Lopez." The Devil unfurls his wings, and the forensic analyst stares in awe.
"Wow."
Lucifer shrugs, and the wings vanish into thin air.
"So the feather that I investigated before…"
"... isn't an emu. Let's leave it at that."
"Right. We need to discuss something at a later time, okay? It's really important."
"Of course. Now, shall we get back and take our respective seats? I'm sure they're about to start."
Ella nods.
"So when are you two getting married?" Trixie blurts out, and the partners look at each other and struggle to form a coherent response.
"Ahh, we haven't really discussed —"
"That we're going to tie the know —"
Chloe and Lucifer reply in unison, and the urchin smiles at her handiwork.
"Relax, guys. I just wanted to see you squirm."
"Oh. Very good, you little Devil."
Lucifer looks around for Rory, but she's still not there.
"She's pissed at you, Dad," Zain whispers in his father's ears to explain.
"What? I thought we made up yesterday."
"Well, we went to the tailor — more like, she dragged me there — and she was kind of waiting for you, and you didn't show up."
"I was helping Maze with something."
"Ahh, well, just tell her that. But knowing her, she'll throw a fit, so your explanation better be good. Just saying." Zain leans back into his seat.
Meanwhile, the former Detective isn't paying attention to her son and boyfriend as she chats with her eldest about this apparent teasing. When she saw Zain settle to his seat on the second row, she finally shifted her attention to Lucifer, who was constantly looking over his shoulders, looking for a certain lady.
"She wouldn't miss her aunt's wedding."
"I don't know. She gets her stubbornness from her mom."
Chloe raises an eyebrow, and the Devil rectifies, "I mean determination."
"Hmm."
"Oh, there she is! Rory! There's a seat here."
However, the young lady raises her brows and sits in the last row, ignoring her father.
"What happened?"
"Apparently, she went to the tailor, and I missed my appointment because I had to help Maze."
"I'm sure she'll listen to reason."
"I guess we'll find out later. But, as I said, she's very determined."
The wedding march begins.
At the reception, Trixie stands in front of the newlyweds. While Eve's not looking, Maze pours a generous amount of booze and offers it to the future President of Mars, but the former's wife intercepts the drink.
Trixie laughs at this as she's reminded of their first meeting at Lux. Maze also offered her a drink — the one she thought was a Shirley Temple — but her mom got there in time to grab the glass from her before she could even take a sip.
She excuses herself from the pair and heads over to the table to get herself some fruit punch.
"Fess up, T. You spiked the punch, didn't you?"
Trixie turns around and frowns at the strange lady. "Huh?"
"Nevermind, I'm four years too early for that. I'm Rory, Lucifer and Chloe's...friend."
"I'm Trixie, Maze's bestfriend."
"I thought Lucifer is Maze's best friend?"
"No way. I love Lucifer, but no way."
"You...love Lucifer? Why?"
"Because he's funny and really bad at board games."
"Lucifer plays board games?"
"Yeah. At least once a week every game night."
"You guys have a game night? You never told me that."
"Huh? Why would I? We just met. Who are you again?"
"I'm no one."
But before Rory could complete her infamous walkout, Zain intervenes.
"Hey, T!"
"Huh? And you are?"
"Zain! I'm your favorite brother. And this one right here is Rory. Your favorite sister."
Rory slaps Zain's arms at this deliberate reveal session. He keeps running his mouth ever since they landed in this timeline, and honestly, she wants to tie her brother up somewhere until they can go back. But having people in the know — their parents, for example — complicates things. And Zain's not a pushover.
"How…?"
"Well, you know, when two people love one another,"
"Pfft, I know about the naked cuddle time, thank you very much."
"Oh. Well then, time travel is why we're here."
"Hmm. Interesting." Trixie nods in agreement, a little skeptical, but since Lucifer is the Devil and Charlie's a half-angel, then it isn't impossible for her mom and Lucifer to have offspring of their own, considering how much time they've been spending around each other. Like, a lot.
"Yeah."
"Come to think of it; you do look a lot like Lucifer except for the green eyes. And Rory here is a combination of both features of Lucifer and Mom."
"Yeah, we get that a lot." Zain smiles at his elder sister at how chill she is learning this open secret (sort of).
Lucifer and Chloe spot their children, so they hastily made their way over to de-escalate if necessary. From the looks of it, it would seem that Zain and Rory are at each other's throats again. Not to mention, Trixie isn't aware yet (as far as they know), but that's a conversation for another time.
"Hey, guys, what's going on here?"
"Oh, Z is here is dropping the bombs on T about how we're related."
Trixie shrugs. "It's alright. I believe in this stuff anyway."
"You do?" Chloe asks.
"Yeah. Lucifer doesn't lie. So I know he is the Devil. And Maze is a demon. I know. I was just waiting for you guys to tell me yourselves."
"Very perceptive of you, urchin."
"Of course. So, can I hang with my sibs instead? This party is definitely for adults."
"Uhh, sure, baby."
"Awesome. Can I book an uber?"
"No need for that, T. We got you. Come on, Rory."
Rory, for once, lets herself be roped in, completely forgetting about the tirade she prepared for Lucifer. She can't exactly tell her father now how jealous she is of these game nights because, if anything, Trixie's been a wonderful elder sister.
The couple watched as their children left the reception.
"That went well." Lucifer comments.
"Yeah. Umm, so, back to dancing?"
"I thought you'd never asked."
"So, wait. You're telling me you traveled back in time because Lucifer abandoned us?"
"Yeah."
"Then, it's good that you did. Everything will be fixed. Isn't that the point of time travel?"
"It doesn't work that way, T." Rory counters, adamant that the time loop is inevitable and unbreakable.
"Oh? So, you're saying that free will is a sham? Like, even if I choose A, like I'm supposed to, I'm still screwed because that's what fate has in store for me? I don't think so."
"T,"
"I simply disagree with you. If you find out what it is that made him leave, make sure you choose what's best for everyone. They've both been through so much; I just want them to be happy. And I want you to be happy, too."
"T's right, Rory. But hey, I guess that's why I'm here! To keep her in line. Because I'm the responsible twin."
Zain grins while Rory rolls her eyes again. Trixie watches her future siblings in amusement as they continue to bicker.
Linda's first draft about Lucifer received mixed reviews, to put it lightly. There were disagreements and more revelations and more realizations, but in the end, it helped.
Good thing Zain volunteered to watch over Trixie when Rory's interest was piqued when she found out about the end of the world thing from Chloe. The young lady could just imagine the smug grin on her twin's face and would probably never let her live it down, now that she knows how much their father loved their mom.
After spending and splurging on whatever Rory laid her eyes on, the Devil couldn't be happier. The sumo wrestling, the water balloons, dumping water balloons on unsuspecting victims, it was the perfect daddy-daughter day. Even though he knows it wouldn't make up for the times he wasn't there; at least he's here now, showing Rory just how much he loves her.
Chloe storms off after Lucifer sides with their daughter about the time loop, and Rory simply shrugs, saying, "Fate's a bitch."
Meanwhile, Zain hangs out at the apartment, waiting for his mom to get back from the penthouse. They've scheduled a beach day tomorrow, so she's dropping off the stuff, and then she's going to check if Trixie wants to be pulled out from Science Camp so that they can spend time all together.
The door opens, and he sees a distraught Chloe.
"Hey, Mom. What's wrong?"
"I'm pissed off with your father, that's all."
"Is there anything I can do to help?"
"Maybe convince him to choose and not let fate decide?"
"I intend to do just that. But maybe give him time to think it over? In the meantime, do you want me to go get Trixie now, or…?"
"I called her earlier. She really wants to be in Science Camp and begged off from our beach day tomorrow."
"Oh. No worries. Hey, do you mind if I don't go as well? I have no issues with Dad. Rory needs this more than me."
"Oh, okay. What will you do?"
"Oh, I can just fly to Las Vegas and splurge on whatever using Dad's platinum card."
"What?"
"He wouldn't mind at all."
"But you're — "
"Like I said, Mom. I'm older than I look. Half angel and all that."
"Right, right. But I'd rather keep you close, you know?"
"Oh, okay. Then I'll hang with Charlie. Is that all right?"
"Sure."
Zain goes to Linda's house and meets with Rory there unexpectedly. She's taking lots of pictures to bring back to the future to tease their cousin and tells him their father went to the apartment to drop off some of Charlie's clothes.
Meanwhile, Lucifer bends one knee and asks the love of his life if she would do the honor of spending the rest of the day with him and their children.
Rory lands at Linda's apartment, where Zain is waiting.
"So, you're good with Dad now, I suppose?"
"Yeah. But I still don't know why he left. Can't you just tell me?"
"Nope."
"Party pooper."
"Please," Zain scoffs. "I wonder how much time has passed in our own time? I mean, I'm eager to get back to future Mom, but I really don't want to see her leave, you know? It's fun seeing their younger versions, although we're gonna have to back eventually. I wonder if future T got my note?"
"I'm sure she has."
"Hmmm. Anyhow, I'm going back to the apartment. What about you? Are you staying at Dad's tonight?"
"No, I'll follow you to the apartment in a few hours. I think I'll just fly around for a bit."
"Okay. See ya, sis."
"Yeah."
Rory finds herself standing in front of Lux's entrance at 11:00 PM. It's closed today, so there isn't anyone around.
A man approaches her and says, "Rory, right?"
"Depends on who's asking."
"I'm a friend of Lucifer's."
"Hmm, right. Well, the club is closed tonight, as you can see. So, bye." She dismisses him quickly, but then she feels something prick her neck. She instantly feels dizzy, yet she's keen on fighting it off, but she is struck to the head before she can unfurl her wings to escape.
Chloe and Lucifer are on the verge of celebrating the new day when their son makes his entrance from the balcony.
"Zain?"
"There's something wrong with Rory."
"What do you mean?"
"There's this twin thing; I can feel her struggling to stay awake, uh, she is struck with something."
"Where is she?"
"I don't know. She said she was going to fly for a bit before heading back to the apartment. She never made it."
Just then, Lucifer's phone vibrates from his pocket, and he shows the caller id to Chloe and Zain.
"It's Rory." He picks up, and his eyes go wide. It's LeMec on the other line. "She's at 10th and Swanson."
After much debate, the three went together to rescue Rory.
Two very able celestials and one bad-ass Detective makes the dream team. Lucifer took the right flank, Zain took the left, and Chloe was in charge of the middle.
The goons were no match to their skills. However, one managed to injure Chloe on that same shoulder where she got shot before.
Zain flies his Mom off to the nearest hospital and heads back to the warehouse, where he sees Lucifer hugging Rory. He sees the man get up and about to stab their Dad, but he intercepts and takes the blow.
Lucifer kicks LeMec, and the latter lands on the feathers his men had taken from Rory moments ago and breathes his last.
"Z? Shit!" Rory knew better than to pluck the knife off.
"Ah, it's bad, isn't it?"
"You're going to be fine, Zain." Lucifer tries to reassure, but he knows. His son is already bleeding out on that cold floor.
"Mom is getting treated at the hospital."
"Shut up, Z. We need to get you there as well."
"I'm done for, R." He laughs it off like some lunatic, but she knows he's just trying to lighten the mood.
"No, you're not, you idiot." She has to do something. She can't let her twin die here. Wings!
"Dad, your wings."
"What about them?"
"It healed Uncle A before. When he was stabbed with Auntie Maze's knife, it should help."
"Okay,"
Lucifer doesn't really know that his feather healed Amenadiel before, but right now, all he cares about is saving his son. He unfurls his wings and plucks one feather, and simultaneously places it on the wound to the heart as Rory removes the knife.
The light it produced blinds them for a few seconds, after which Zain's wound completely heals. But he's out for the count.
Unis and paramedics arrive; Lucifer makes his statements, and they wheel away the still unconscious Zain.
Several hours later, both mother and son are released from the hospital.
A portal opens after Rory realizes why Lucifer left and remembers what Zain told her.
"You don't have to leave, Dad. You can help as many people as you can down there and be there for us as well. We'll see you soon."
The twins reappear in front of future Chloe, who welcomes them back — but now with Lucifer sitting on the other side of the bed with Trixie.
The memories merge where Lucifer was in all of their firsts.
Even though it's bittersweet for them today, they know they will all see each other again because the afterlife is just as beautiful.
