The promise Hollywood Heights

Heart Broken chapter 4

By morning Nora packed their things with Mel's help. Lorie's at the door.

"You're only allowed to take your personal things; everything else stays in the cottage." She demands.
"I know, I'm not taking anything but our clothes and some belongings don't worry." Nora tells her.

Loren sits in the car quiet. Mel walks back and forth loading their things into the car. "Hurry up; I need you out of here!" Lorie continues to yell, she follows them to make sure they leave.

Nora furrows her eyes. "Why are you so spiteful?"

"I'm doing what should have been done years ago."

"Katy was total the opposite of you Lorie, why do you hate us so much?"

"My sister was stupid, now get out!" She points her finger.

Nora's crying, how could this happen? She makes sure they have everything, she gets into her car and they drive away.

Their future uncertain, Loren sits quietly leaning on Mel who hugs her; she can tell Loren's hurting. There's no sign of Eddie.

Meanwhile….

Eddie calls Jake; he hasn't been able to reach Loren; he hasn't heard from her either.

Tracy, Jake's wife answers the phone. "I'm sorry Eddie, he had to fly to New York, yes, we stopped by to drop your note to her, I was in the car with him."

"Thanks Traci, I'm worried, I haven't heard from her, by now, I thought she'd call, maybe she's packing, if Jake calls tell him to let her know where I'm at, she can come here, I can't get a hold of her."

"I will Eddie, I promise."

Kelly walks into Eddie's room. "You're all set to start at 3, the auditorium is getting full."

Eddie leans on the dresser. "Yeah Kelly, I'm ready."

She leaves, he has a picture of Loren hanging on the mirror, he places a kiss on it with his finger.

"Hurry babe, I need you."

Within minutes, he's heads out, it's time to start the concert, it's his first in a series of several.

Many weeks later, Eddie never heard from Loren, he performs on stage every weekend with a broken heart, he's also recording, he never found Loren, and Jake couldn't find her either, it's like the earth swallowed her.

Nora, Loren and Mel live in the home owned by her parents in Long Beach, that's where they're living, Loren continues with school, her goal, to be a teacher like her mom. Mel moves in with them too. They had to remodel the home, and after several months it's finally home for them.

Lorie was smart, she left the mansion like Eddie asked her too, she's happy she got rid of Loren and her family, if Eddie finds out what she did, she'll be far away, he can't do anything about it. She smiles because she thinks she did her nephew a huge favor, no more gold diggers around to take the Duran fortune.

Two years later, Eddie releases his second album, he stays busy touring, it's the only way to stay sane, he misses Loren.

He accomplished his goal, he's all over in the music world, that makes things harder for Loren, she tries to be strong, but cries herself to sleep every night, how could Eddie forget about her? Eddie didn't keep his promise to her.

Months later there's news, Eddie's dating Chloe Carter a famous Magazine Model, she's known for dating men with money, and Eddie fits perfectly in her plans.

Mel's the first to see the news online. "Oh boy, wait until Loren see's this."

Nora notices. "See what?"

"This, Eddie's moved on, he's dating this wanna be, everyone knows who she is."

"I've seen her, she's the top bikini model for the swimsuit issues."

Mel looks at her. "The Men Illustrated magazine?"

Nora rolls her eyes. "Yes, that one."

Loren walks in. "I'm home."

"Hi sweetie, how was school?"

"I have several papers to turn in; I'll be in all weekend."

"You have a very boring life; you have to get out once in a while." Mel tells her.

"What for Mel? I need to graduate and start to work, did you hear the latest news?"

Mel pretends. "What news?"

"Eddie's dating, this time it sounds serious."

Nora hugs her. "Sweetie, I think Lorie's behind all of this, this doesn't sound like something Eddie would do."

Loren eyes tear. "Mom, he never tried to find me."

"You never found your phone, maybe he tried."

"He could have tried harder, his aunt got to him, making him realize I wasn't good enough for him, she always threw that in my face, she hated us mom, I remember her mean looks every time Eddie came to talk to me, she convinced him and he broke his promise."

Nora knows her daughter is hurting, if Katy and Max were alive, this wouldn't have happened.

Months later, Eddie Duran marries Chloe Carter, Loren cries for days, Nora and Me try to comfort her to no avail. But Loren's tough, she'll survive, she's determined to finish school and become the best teacher in the California area, two years later at the age of 24 she receives her degree in teaching, there's a lot of work in the State for tutors, most of the celebrities hire them for their children, that's the field Loren chooses, she's proud to do what her mom did all of her life. During that time, Eddie and Chloe have a son, Loren avoids any news regarding Eddie, but, he's everywhere on TV, Radio, and online, Eddie Duran is always making the news.

One thing hasn't changed; Loren still loves him. Her heart aches knowing that baby could be theirs.

Chloe can't handle motherhood; her son is almost 2 years old when she leaves Eddie for the world famous Movie director Grant Osborne. Eddie's left with a son to care for.

Ian, Eddie's friend, stops by to see his friend, he's passing through, he's a traveling photographer.

"Who's going to watch Alex while you're busy performing?"

"I called my aunt Linda, she'll be staying with me, I need help Ian."

"You seem pretty calm mate, I'm happy to see you're still in one piece."

"I knew this marriage with Chloe wouldn't last, she always wanted recognition, fame and being a mom got in her way."

"How do you walk out on your son?"

Eddie stands by the bay window in his home. "I don't know, if Loren was my wife like we planned years ago, she'd be our son's mom."

"What happened to Loren?"

"I don't know Ian, it's like the earth swallowed her, Jake assured me he gave her the note, but, I never heard from her again."

"I'm sorry mate, you still love her?"

Eddie tears. "I've never stopped; we planned a future together."

A knock on the door brings both men back to reality. Eddie opens the door.

"Aunt Linda, thanks for coming."

"I'll try and help you as much as I can."

Alex Maxwell Duran is a beautiful boy; he has his mom's blue eyes and his dad's brown hair, and good looks.

Two years later, Loren's working for the Hollywood's elite couples by tutoring their children. She's careful not to spend her inheritance foolishly. She's an amazing teacher and is referred to more celebrity couple's. She dating an old school friend Cameron Phillips.

Eddie keeps touring and appears in many charity events, his son comes with him, aunt Linda helps care for Alex who's almost 4 years old, a very smart and talkative little boy.

Linda knows it's time for him to start Pre-K.

"Eddie, it's time to enroll Alex in a preschool program."

"I know Aunt Linda; I haven't had time to look into it."

Linda takes a card out of her pocket. "I did the research for you, this teacher comes highly recommended by the best in Hollywood."

Eddie's busy reading through some paperwork. "Please call the school and hire her."

"I'll have to call the Hollywood Tutoring institute."

"Sounds great, you take care of it Aunt Linda, make an appointment and let's meet this teacher."

Linda calls the following morning and makes an appointment to meet with the tutor, Alex has an appointment that morning, she asked her daughter Mindy to meet with the tutor.

Loren arrives and Mindy asks for her referrals and letters of recommendations, Mindy never met Loren, she has no idea who she is. And Loren doesn't know her either.

"I think my mom will definitely hire you, your referrals speak highly of you."

Loren smiles. "Thank you, do I have the job?"

"Yes, I'm sure you do, I'll let my mom know and you can start Monday morning."

Loren gets her things together. "I'll see you then, the school will fax over the contract, sign and fax it back please."

"Sure, I'll make sure it gets done." An hour later Linda's home. "How did it go?"
"I hired her mom, she's very well prepared, she's tutored Brad Pitt's kids and Will Smith's children, among other well-known celebrities."

"Great, that'll help Alex; he's ready for school."

Meanwhile

Loren's home, and Nora's working in the backyard.

"Hey sweetie." Nora smiles.

"Hi mom, I start a new job on Monday."

"You've been so busy honey, I'm so proud of you."

"I've learned from the best." She hugs Nora.

Mel arrives. "Hey did you hear Eddie Duran is back in LA?"

Loren rolls her eyes. "Yes, I read it somewhere."

Mel shows them her phone. "There's a picture of Eddie with his son Alex."

"He's a cutie; he's has Eddie's looks." Nora says.

"Can we drop this?" Loren turns away.

"What will you do the day you run into him?" Nora wonders.

"I'd rather not talk about it right now mom."

"Loren, it may happen, you're tutoring very famous children of Hollywood, you're bound to run into him."

"I hope not, if I can help it, I'll avoid it."

Mel looks at her. "Just be ready, Nora's right, it could happen."

"I'll deal with it when the time comes." Loren assures them.

"Before I forget, Cam called, he said to be ready at 8."

"I got his text, I haven't responded." Loren says.

Mel laughs. "He's crazy about you."

Loren downcast her look. "I know."

Mel knows Loren too well; she's dating but her heart isn't in it at all. She never got over Eddie, Mel knows she still loves him, Loren won't admit it, there's only room in her heart for Eddie and no one else, Cam's a great guy.

Loren gets ready for her date that evening, her heart isn't in it, she doesn't have the heart to hurt Cam, she knows how that feels, Eddie broke his promise, he broke her heart into a million pieces, Cam's tries to put those pieces together, the only glue she needs to mend her heart is Eddie. But, she had to move on, at 26, she's making choices to fill the void he left behind.

The doorbell rings, Nora lets him in. Loren walks into the room looking beautiful, her wavy hair is straighten, her makeup simple, she doesn't need much, she's wearing a pastel floral dress.

Nora wants to see her daughter happy, but deep down she knows Loren still loves Eddie.

"Have fun you two." Nora says.

"We will mom, see you later."
Cam takes Loren to an Italian Restaurant where they enjoy a delicious dinner. After dinner, they take a walk on the beach; Cam knows how much Loren loves to walk barefoot on the beach.

They hold hands while they walk along the shore. "Did you enjoy dinner?"

Loren smiles. "Of course, thank you, you're always so sweet."

"I want to see you happy."

He stops at the perfect spot, there's a full moon that night and the light of the moon lights the area perfectly.

"Have I told you how beautiful you are?" Cam asks.

Loren sighs. "I think you've said it several times today."

"I love you Loren, I love you very much." He gets down to one knee and looks deep into her beautiful hazel eyes. "Will you marry me?"

Now what? What will Loren say?
