Blake was finally finished with her homework. It was Saturday afternoon and she didn't have anything to do… as usual. She was a little bummed that her Coach had cancelled practice that night, so she decided to use the frozen over pond in her backyard to skate around, practice a little, and work off some stress. Things had been awkward as usual with Weiss, but each day it was becoming harder and harder to contain her feelings for the young blonde.
The hockey player changed into her long johns before throwing her team sweat pants over top to keep warm. She went into her closet and found one of her old jerseys. Blake quickly threw it over her head before running down the stairs. The raven haired girl went into the garage and pulled out her old skates and one of her sticks. She slid on her shoes, feet pushing the heels down, and walked down the shoveled path in her backyard.
Blake smiled to herself as she made it over to the pond. She leaned her stick against the chair and stepped out of her shoes to put on her skates. The girl quickly laced up her skates and tossed the puck on the ice. She felt most at home on the ice. It was her favorite place to be, especially in her own backyard. Every year her dad would build a pond in the backyard for her to practice at home, and Blake loved it.
Standing up on her skates, Blake put on her hockey gloves before grabbing her stick and stepping on the ice. The faunus instantly felt herself relaxed as she used her well-practiced movements to move around the ice. She skated around the ice a few times to warm herself up before heading over to the puck. She grabbed it with her stick and practiced her stick handling while just skating around.
This was Blake's favorite time of year… and there was something about being outside on the ice by herself. It was just so peaceful. She took the puck and skated toward the net she had dragged out a few days prior. She skated around and shot the puck into the net before stopping in front of it.
In the house next door, Weiss was on her laptop at her desk in her room. She was on Skype with Neptune while attempting to write her English essay that was due in two weeks. It was unusual for Weiss to get a head start on her homework, but because it was snowing outside and everything was iced over, she couldn't really go anywhere. The cheerleader loved the snow. It was beautiful, actually.
The girl got up from her bed and walked over to her chair to find the notebook she needed in her backpack. As she stepped toward her chair, she stopped close to the small window in her basement room as she saw movement outside. Weiss smiled softly to herself, seeing Blake was in her backyard skating around on the pond. She thought fondly of the times her and Blake would play around in the snow back in grade school. Weiss missed the closeness she used to have with the other girl. The cheerleader was brought out of her thoughts as she could hear her boyfriend calling for her, but she continued to ignore Neptune and watched her neighbor for a moment. She couldn't take her eyes off the raven haired beauty effortlessly skating her way around the pond.
Weiss turned back around from admiring the faunus and walked back over to her laptop. It was only four in the afternoon. She looked back toward the window where she could see Blake and smiled. She looked like she was having a lot of fun. And honestly, Weiss was bored. Talking with Neptune bored her. She quickly told him that she had to go and logged off, saving her essay and putting her books away before standing up to walk out of her room. She wanted to surprise Blake and watch her skate around for a bit. She hoped the other girl wouldn't mind some company.
The cheerleader walked up the stairs and into the kitchen. As she started to warm up some water, she opened two packages of hot cocoa. Weiss quickly finished up the hot chocolate that she was going to bring Blake to help the girl warm up some. She poured the steaming liquid into a thermos, capped it off and set it by her back door. Putting on her coat, snow boots, and scarf, she grabbed the hot chocolate and walked outside, approaching the frozen pond.
As Weiss made her way over, Blake continued to skate around the ice casually as she took shots at the net. The faunus loved being out here by herself. She figured that maybe her brother would join her in a while, but for now she was taking in the peacefulness as the snow came down lightly. Blake expertly skated around the ice before stopping, snow spraying everywhere, and taking a slapshot. The puck soared off her stick and hit exactly where she wanted it to. She smiled to herself as she skated toward the net to pull the puck out with her stick and start the process all over again.
Weiss got closer to the makeshift ice rink as she smiled. This was the happiest she had seen Blake…ever. She stood there and watched the hockey player skate around for a moment before making her presence known. "Hey..." She took a step closer, "I um... I brought you something," she said, holding up the thermos.
Blake hadn't been paying much attention to anything outside of her little bubble. She kept skating around and shooting. Just as she fired off another shot she heard a voice. She stopped and quickly whipped her head around to the person that walked up, "Oh. Uh, hey, Weiss." Blake said skating over to the girl. She stopped in front of the cheerleader, careful not to spray her with any ice.
The smaller girl didn't walk any further because if she did, the chances of her slipping and falling on her ass were high. She was extremely clumsy. "I saw that you were out here and thought that you might want some hot chocolate to keep warm... since it's below freezing and all."
Blake looked at the thermos in her neighbor's hands as she spoke. "You didn't have to." She said with a soft smile as she reached out for the travel mug. Blake took a sip and looked at Weiss. "But thank you. This is really good." She said quietly, "What were you doing?" She asked, resting both her hands on the butt of her stick. She had to look down at Weiss even more now, considering she looked taller in her skates.
The cheerleader smiled softly up at the faunus. Blake looked like she was at peace on the ice. She had started going to her games regularly and a few of her own friends had been forced to go with her, with the exception of Ruby who willingly went to support her own girlfriend. "I was doing the essay for English. I figured I would get a head start since I can't really drive anywhere in this weather." She rocked on her heels and looked down at the snow. "So... what are you doing?"
Blake took another drink as she smiled at her neighbor. She nodded her head, "Ah yeah. I finished that this morning." She said honestly, she knew it wasn't due for another couple weeks, but she liked to get things done as soon as she got them. Blake watched as Weiss looked at the ground. She finished off the drink in the thermos before setting it on the ground. "Coach cancelled practice tonight, so I came out here to just skate around and practice on my own." She said.
Weiss sat down on the chair next to the small pond after wiping the snow off of it. "I can see why she cancelled practice... There's a foot or more of snow out here. Hopefully school is cancelled on Monday."
The faunus looked at Weiss as she sat down. She chuckled softly, "I would like it if school was cancelled, but also not really because my game would be cancelled, too." She said as she sat next to Weiss. Blake looked at Weiss, "Would you care to join me?" She asked softly. "I have another old pair of skates in the garage if you wanted to go get them." She had no idea why she was asking the girl to skate with her. The hockey player knew Weiss was clumsy as hell, but she was trying to make an effort. It meant a lot to her that she would allow the other girl into her sanctuary known as the ice pond in her backyard.
Weiss shook her head and laughed. "No-no-no. I can't skate. And I'm way too clumsy... I'll fall on my ass and probably end up crying." She joked, "You don't want me to skate." She had never skated before. Hell, she could barely ride a damn bike that wasn't stationary... and even then she could barely use one of those. "I can just watch. I like watching you on the ice."
The faunus looked at her with pleading eyes, "Come on. They're in my garage. I'll help you put them on and teach you how to skate." She said, sort of begging. She didn't know why, but she really wanted to spend more time with the smaller girl. "I went to that stupid football game for you, even though I really didn't want to." Blake reminded Weiss. She looked at the girl with sad eyes, even putting her cat ears in action. "Please?"
Weiss groaned. She had never seen Blake like this before and it was quickly becoming a weakness of hers to see Blake smile. She hadn't heard the girl beg for anything before. And that face she was making. She couldn't say no to that. She sighed loudly and looked up at Blake, "Okay, fine. But if I fall and crack my head open, that's on you."
Blake smiled as Weiss got up and went toward her neighbor's garage. "They're over by my hockey bag." She said to the girl as Weiss stood up from the chair and started to walk away. She skated around as she waited for the cheerleader to come back.
The smaller girl stood up and walked over to the garage, quickly finding the extra set of skates and walked back to the chair. Weiss sat down and sighed, slipping her boots off. "You are ridiculous... I can't believe I'm going to embarrass myself for you."
Once the smaller girl sat down and started to take her boots off, Blake skated over to her and got on one knee in front of Weiss. She reached out and loosened the laces on the skates before looking up at Weiss. "I'm gonna grab your foot now." She warned the girl as she held Weiss' foot and slipped the skate on before doing the other foot.
Weiss bit down on her lower lip as Blake slipped the skate on. Even though the touch wasn't sexual in the slightest, feeling Blake touch her sent a warmth throughout her body, "You don't have to tell me what you're going to do, you know? It's not like I'm going to say no." She looked away from Blake and down at the snow. "I've never skated before. Like... at all. I'm kind of scared to do this, honestly." She trusted that Blake wouldn't let anything bad happen.
Blake blushed a little, thankful her cheeks were already red from the cold. She looked up at Weiss before she started to tighten the laces. "Let me know if it's too tight." She said, "You want them tight, you shouldn't be able to move your ankle much, but not too tight to where it hurts." Blake said as she pulled the laces, wrapping the laces around the ankle and tying them in the front. She moved to grab the other skate and repeat the process.
The smaller girl nodded. It was a nice feeling having Blake take care of her like this, and seeing the girl in her element sent shivers through her body. "Gotcha..." She looked down and watched Blake lace the skates up. She smiled genuinely at the brunette girl.
Blake looked up at her neighbor, "Does that feel okay?" She asked standing back up and reaching her hands out to help Weiss up.
She smiled and tried to roll her ankles, but couldn't. She nodded her head, "It feels fine. It doesn't hurt and I can't really move my ankles." She looked at Blake's hands and reluctantly took them. She felt her hands warm up instantly, sending a comforting warmth throughout her body. She was thankful that she had a tight hold on the faunus' hands, she had to keep her balance somehow.
Blake took the smaller girl's hands and helped her up. She skated backwards as she was pulling Weiss along with her slowly. Weiss kept her feet planted as Blake moved them towards the middle of the pond. "...I really don't know if I can do this. Is it too late to change my mind?" She was kind of scared. Blake watched as the girl's feet barely moved. She stopped in the middle of the pond and looked up at Weiss' face.
"Keep your feet separated and bend your knees a little." Blake instructed her neighbor. "To skate forward you want to push one back and out, kind of like a diagonal direction." She said as she still had her hands in Weiss'. She quickly dropped them as she realized it, becoming even redder than she already was. "D-Do you think you can try? If you fall it's okay. It doesn't hurt too bad. I fell a lot when I first learned, too." She said, trying to ease the girl's worries a little.
"Look, I'm like a newborn doe when it comes to foot work." Weiss frowned as Blake let go of her hands, she didn't feel safe anymore. She took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah just... I can try, I guess. Just make sure that you have your phone ready to call an ambulance if need be." she joked softly.
Blake shook her head and laughed softly, "You're not going to die or get seriously injured. Maybe just a small bruise here or there." She said as she skated backward about two feet from Weiss. She looked at the girl, "Skate to me." Blake said, holding her hands out for Weiss to grab onto when she got closer.
Weiss did as Blake said and pushed one foot forward and out but it didn't work out too well. She grabbed onto Blake to keep her balance before she decided to do the splits on ice. "Yeah, this isn't working." She stood up straight and let go of Blake, sighing. Keeping her balance on these death traps Blake calls skates is harder than it seems.
The faunus watched as Weiss tried to skate toward her, "You're a cheerleader and can dance, but you can't balance on skates?" She joked as Weiss reached out and pulled on her jersey to keep herself standing. Blake rested her hands on the smaller girl's forearms as Weiss steadied herself. Once the girl was standing straight up again, the faunus let go.
The cheerleader glared at Blake. "I don't dance on ice, Blake." She enjoyed seeing the more playful and relaxed side of Blake. She seemed... happier and she liked it. She wanted to mention it, but didn't want to make Blake go back into that shell she always lived in.
Blake moved her hand to gently grab Weiss' forearms again. "Here, lets try this." She said keeping her hand on Weiss' arm and pushing herself forward, pulling Weiss alongside of her.
Before she knew it, Weiss was beside Blake, skating alongside her, well, more like being pulled by Blake. The semantics didn't really matter, she felt like she was actually skating. "Is this the part where my feet are supposed to move? Because I don't think they can right now."
The faunus looked down as she glided them around the ice. She saw that Weiss' feet were moving a little, but obviously not enough to actually be skating herself. "Yep." She laughed softly. Blake slowly stopped them from moving before turning to skate backward and face Weiss. "I'm going to let go now. I will be right beside you and you need to try and do it yourself." She said.
The white blonde turned her head so quickly it could give someone whiplash. "What? No-no-no, don't let go!" She panicked. She felt safe with Blake's hands on her body holding her up, she also felt that new warmth throughout her body, and it was the most comforting thing she'd ever experienced.
"You'll never learn unless you get over your fear of falling and just try." Blake said softly, reluctantly letting go of Weiss' arms. "For me?" She smiled at the girl, pushing her ears down in pleading.
"Fine... But you're going to be in front of me. Going backwards, got it? Because if I fall, you're the cushion." She was enjoying her time with Blake. She would deny it if anyone asked... but she was really having a good time. It was nice to see a more carefree side of the often serious, quiet faunus.
Blake smiled at Weiss as she started to freak out. She chuckled softly before expertly moving herself in front of the girl so she was facing her, "Fine. Whatever you say."
"You're different when you're on the ice, you know that?" Weiss commented as she focused on staying balanced.
Blake blushed at the other girl's words, she was thankful for the redness already covering her cold cheeks. "I didn't know that." She said. It wasn't a shock to her though… being out on the ice was her happy place. It was the one thing she loved doing more than anything else.
Weiss smiled and nodded. "Yeah. You seem a lot happier... I like it. I like this side of you. Now stop being an asshole and hold onto me before I fall on my ass."
"Okay, ready?" Blake asked as she started to skate backwards, not caring if Weiss was ready. She knew the girl would panic and start to move and attempt to get closer as soon as she got further away.
When Blake started to skate away, the cheerleader's eyes grew wide. "What? No! You're too far away." Weiss moved forward a little bit and, surprisingly, was keeping her balance. She was a little shaky, but still kind of skating nonetheless. Her skating wasn't as good as the faunus' by any stretch of the imagination, it was sloppy at best and she knew that one wrong move would send her flying. "Blake, please." The cheerleader begged as she tried to get closer to the hockey player, wanting desperately to use her for balance… and to maybe have the taller girl's touch to warm her up again.
Blake laughed softly as she watched Weiss' feet start to move. "I'm like three feet away from you." She chuckled. She kept skating backwards in a straight line, watching as Weiss skated toward her. The girl was so beautiful and she was certainly enjoying her view. She noticed she was approaching the edge of the pond so she turned a little to avoid hitting the grass and snow. Blake watched as Weiss' eyes went wide as she tried to follow her.
Weiss glared at her. "That's three feet of not being safe. Maybe I should have worn a helmet or something." She wondered how long Blake had been doing this because she seemed like a pro. She noticed that Blake turned but she couldn't stop herself. She didn't know how to turn.
The faunus watched as Weiss tried to turn. She quickly saw that it wasn't happening and quickly moved herself in front of the girl so she could try and stop the fall. Weiss went crashing into Blake and they tumbled to the soft snow on the ground. She let out a soft grunt and flinched her ears as she felt Weiss fall on top of her and she landed on her back half the snow and half on the ice. Blake had her hands resting on Weiss' hips as she laughed softly. "That's one way of stopping." She joked softly with the girl.
The cheerleader laughed and nodded. "Yeah, I suppose it is... but I'm sure there's better ways of doing it." Thank God for snow… and Blake. "I'm sorry. I didn't know how to... you know... turn." She blushed and looked down at her. Blake instinctively took her glove off and reached up and wiped some snow off Weiss' face as she looked into the girl's eyes longingly. Blake had the biggest crush on Weiss, but she knew that nothing would ever happen so she kept it to herself.
Weiss actually felt comfortable on top of Blake. She felt Blake's soft fingertips on her cheek as some snow was brushed away. She didn't know why she did what she was about to do, but she couldn't help it. Being on top of Blake like this was comforting. She and the taller girl were getting closer each day, it just seemed right. They had hung out more in the past month than they had in years. She swallowed nervously and leaned forward. Why was she doing this? She was straight... She had a boyfriend. An idiot boyfriend but a boyfriend nonetheless. None of that was enough to stop her from wanting to feel her neighbor's lips on her own… there was something about Blake drawing her in and making her feel safe and happy.
The faunus looked into Weiss' eyes as she couldn't keep the smile off her face. She had been dreaming about this for years; being with Weiss… being this happy. Blake looked up into the girl's ocean blue colored eyes. She watched as Weiss slowly started to lean in as her demeanor got more serious. She swallowed thickly and her heart started to race as Weiss' face got closer and closer to her own.
Weiss was so close to Blake's lips. She could feel the heat from the taller girl's breath on her lips. She had always wondered what it would be like to kiss another girl. Their breaths were intermingling, but before Weiss could kiss her, Blake rolled out from under her, gently putting Weiss on her side and standing up. "I, uh. I'm sorry. I forgot about something I had to do for school."
Blake quickly got up and untied her skates. She took them off as fast as she could before slipping her shoes on and grabbing her other stuff and taking off toward her house.
"I... I'm sorry." She watched Blake make a quick dash to get away. As the other girl walked toward the house, Weiss was left outside all by herself. She sighed and pulled her knees up to her chest, burying her head into them. She was such an idiot. She was afraid to stand up on the ice without Blake around, so she crawled on her knees towards the edge of the pond. Once she got to the chair she used it to stand up. Weiss quickly sat down and untied the skates before putting on her boots. She grabbed her thermos and Blake's skates, heading toward the girl's garage. She placed the skates just inside the garage before contemplating heading inside to apologize to the faunus.
Knowing that talking to Blake right now would do no good, she sighed to herself and walked out of her neighbor's garage. She quietly closed the door behind her and walked towards her own house. She opened the back door and stepped inside, instantly being greeted by the heat. How was she going to be able to do her essay now?
Blake watched through her kitchen window with flattened ears, to make sure that Weiss made it inside safely. She had never had anyone as close to her body… and her extra part… as Weiss had been just then. She freaked out. Not only because of that, but because she really liked Weiss and had a huge crush on her. Once she saw Weiss go into her own house, Blake ran upstairs into her room. Her heart was still racing. She wasn't even thinking about the fact that she just left Weiss stranded on the ice… her mind was racing with the almost kiss. She didn't know what to do… so she just laid in her bed staring at the ceiling. She would have to come clean to Weiss at some point.
