A Hero Chapter 9
Eddie and aunt Linda arrive at the Hospital. Nora and Mel are already there.
They sit quietly waiting for news on Loren's injuries.
Eddie sees Nora; he runs towards her. "How's Loren? Where's Alex?"
Nora hugs him. "It's good to see you, he's with the Dr.'s he's fine, they're checking Loren, she hurt her leg; they're accessing her condition right now."
"What happened?"
Mel tells them. "According to the witnesses that saw what happened, a cart at the Zoo almost hit Alex, Loren pushed him out of the way and she got hit instead."
The Dr. walks through the doors holding Alex's hand. "Mr. Duran, I'm Dr. Sosa."
Eddie hugs his son. "Hey buddy, how are you?"
"Loren saved my life daddy." Eddie looks at the Dr. "He's ok?"
"Yes, a few scratches, but he's fine."
Nora walks towards the Dr. "How's my daughter Loren Tate?"
"She's fine, a hero, she needed some stitches' on her leg, you can see her in a moment."
"Anything she needs, I'll cover it." Eddie tells the Dr."
Cam walks in. "How's Loren?"
Nora and Eddie turn towards him. "She's fine, we'll be able to see her in a bit, Cam this is Eddie Duran."
Eddie barely smiles. "We've met."
Cam turns his attention towards Nora and Mel. "What happened?"
Cam walks away with Nora, Eddie stands there with his son by his side, Linda comes back with Coffee. "How's Loren?" She hugs Alex. "Hi sweetie, glad you're ok."
"Dr. said we can see her in a bit." Linda looks at Eddie. "Are you sure you want too?"
"She saved my son's life." Nora smiles when she sees Linda, she walks towards them and hugs little Alex. "He looks a lot like you Eddie."
"I'm glad he does." She hugs Linda. "Good to see you."
"Same here Nora, you look amazing." Nora smiles. "Thanks, you remind me so much of Katy."
The Dr. interrupts. "You can see Loren."
They walk into Loren's room; a nurse is checking her vitals. Alex runs towards her. "Hi Loren, you going to be okay?"
She smiles, and notices Eddie and Cam, they walk towards her. "I'm ok, my leg is a little sore."
Eddie reaches her first. "Thank you for taking good care of Alex, I'm sorry you got hurt in the process."
Cam sits by her side. "I'm glad he wasn't hurt." She says.
She feels uncomfortable because Cam is caressing her hand, and Eddie's watching. "If you need anything, let me know, I told the Dr. to make sure you get whatever you need, don't worry about any expenses."
She semi smiles. "Thanks Eddie."
Alex climbs on the edge of her bed. "Will you come tomorrow?"
"No sweetie, I'll be going home later, I need to rest my leg."
"I need you Loren, what will I do without you?" Alex questions.
Loren blushes. "Come to my house, we can do our lessons there."
Alex looks at Eddie, and Aunt Linda. "Can someone bring me to Loren's tomorrow?"
Linda leans down towards him. "Sweetie, let's give Loren a day to rest and then I'll drive you to her home."
Alex frowns. "But Loren said I can come over."
Loren looks at Linda. "It's ok Linda; bring him over, he's going to read to me, right Alex?"
He smiles. "Yes, I will."
Cam interrupts. "You need to rest; you had a very traumatic day."
Eddie doesn't say a word; he glances towards Cam. His eyes directly on Loren's who immediately responds. "I'm ok; I can sit and read."
"You almost got killed."
"I didn't Cam?" She snaps back. "I need to get ready to go home, Alex I'll see you tomorrow ok?"
He's happy. "Yes, I will go to see you tomorrow."
He climbs on the side of her bed and kisses her. "I'm making you a picture."
Loren's touched by the way Alex appreciates her. "Thank you sweetie."
They leave, except Nora, Mel and Cam, they're going to help Loren get ready to leave the hospital.
They're finally home, Loren has to use a cane, she can't put pressure on her leg. Cam helps her in. "Do you need anything else?"
"No, I need to sleep, thanks for your help."
"I'll call you tomorrow." He tells her.
He leans in to give her a quick peck on the lips, Nora helps Loren get to the restroom, she gets ready for bed.
Mel puts her things away. "Do you want some tea?"
"No, I'd rather sleep, I'm very tired." Loren says.
"You scared us today." Mel tells her.
Loren sighs. "You were scared, I thought for a moment that cart was going to hit Alex, I think it would have killed him."
"You're a hero; do you know what that means?"
"What does it mean?" Loren asks.
"You're a hero in Eddie's eyes, you saved his son, he loves you more than ever."
Loren sighs. "He still does, he told me."
"You love him too, I know you do, why not talk to Cam and tell him what happened, he'll understand, it might hurt him but in the long run, he'll be grateful, Eddie will always be in your heart, you can't fool me Lo, this isn't be fair to Cam."
"What a mess, I don't want to think about this right now, I took my meds and I'm feeling drowsy, let me sleep, I don't want to talk about Eddie anymore."
Mel hugs her best friend. "Rest Loren, feel better."
Mel steps out of the room and Loren lays down, she turns the radio on and Eddie's singing one of his hits, she sobs quietly, no matter where Loren goes he'll always be in her heart, everything reminds her of Eddie, Mel's right, she still loves him, she always will.
The following morning, Loren's up and dressed and ready, she's looking forward to having Alex over. She uses a cane to move around.
"Hey sweetie, ready for pancakes?" Nora asks.
"I'm very hungry." Loren says.
Mel's getting ready to leave for work. "Why didn't you call me?"
"I'm fine, my leg is a little sore. I'll be ok."
They enjoy breakfast and Mel leaves, Loren gets her things ready, at 9:30, Linda arrives with Alex, he's holding a bouquet of Loren's favorite flowers.
"How's Loren feeling?" He asks.
Nora smiles. "Come on in, she's ready and waiting for you."
Alex sees Loren and runs to her. "How's your leg?"
She smiles. "It's a little sore, but I'm ok, how are you this morning?"
"I got up early, I couldn't wait to see you, here these are for you."
He hugs her tight. "Awww Alex you're very sweet, these are my favorite flowers, thank you."
He takes a paper out of his pocket. "I made this for you, Dad said these are the flowers you like."
Loren sighs, Eddie hasn't forgotten what she likes, she looks at the paper, it's a cute picture of a flower. "This is beautiful Alex, thank you so much."
"Thank you for saving me."
Loren looks at him. "I'm happy you're ok."
"You saved my life Loren, you're my hero."
"Thanks for the drawing, let's get started on your lessons."
He sits next to Loren; she begins to read to him. Linda sits in the kitchen with Nora.
"Do you still take your coffee black?" Nora asks.
Linda smiles. "You remembered."
"Are you going to wait for Alex to finish his lessons?"
"I might, Eddie wants to stop by and pick him up, if he does, I'll leave."
Nora furrows her eyes. "Do you think it's a good idea?"
"He insisted, I tried to tell him I'd wait for Alex, he's grateful to Loren, we can't imagine what could have happened to Alex."
"I know, Loren might…" Linda interrupts her. "We know these two are crazy about each other, Eddie loves Loren, he performed with a broken heart when he didn't hear from Loren."
Nora takes a sip of her coffee. "Your sister Lorie kicked us out, she told Loren that Eddie chose his career over her, she never got the note you said Eddie send with Jake."
"I know Lorie had something to do with this."
"The moment Lorie found out Loren and Eddie were meeting behind the cottage she made Loren's life impossible, she called us trash, she was always watching us."
"You should have told Eddie immediately, this would have ended right there and then."
"I know for a fact Eddie told her to leave, she found her way back into the mansion."
Linda's phone buzzes. "It's a text from Eddie, he's picking Alex up, I'm going to meet up with Mindy."
Nora hugs Linda and walks her to the door. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure, what's up?"
"Where's Lorie?" Nora questions.
"She lives in Europe, she started a business and works for some private school, I think is the best thing for all of us, she stays far away from this family."
Nora lets out a small laugh. "Too bad she didn't leave while we were there."
"I'll see you soon, thanks for the coffee."
Nora closes the door and walks into Loren's room, she's reading to Alex who sits next to her, he's paying attention to every word she's reading. He looks so cute cuddled next to her.
Nora doesn't interrupt them; she closes the door quietly. She does her chores, a few hours later, there's a knock on the door, Nora finds Eddie on the other side of the door with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
"Hi Eddie, Alex arrived this morning with Loren's favorite bouquet."
He smiles. "Technically those are from Alex, these are from me."
"Welcome to our humble home."
Eddie walks in. "It's a beautiful home Nora."
"My parents owned it; this is where we came after we left the cottage."
"To think you're only a few miles away from my home, so close, and yet so far."
"We admired you from afar, you've grown as an artist, your parents would be very proud of you."
He smiles. "I know Nora, thanks for saying it, I miss them."
"Are you living at the mansion?"
"We sold the mansion, I couldn't stay there, the cottage was part of the sale, my parents gave you that so I have your share in the bank."
"That's not important right now, Alex is almost done, how about some coffee?"
"No it's ok; I'll just wait for him." Nora looks at her watch. "She should be done. Go in, she's in her room with Alex."
Eddie holds the bouquet and walks towards the door, he doesn't knock, the doors half way opened, he peeks in to find the most amazing scene.
