The wedding dress Chapter 15
Weeks later, Eddie's done with the East coast, he'll be in the southern States in 4 months, they head back to L.A. Loren sits with Alex, he's asleep and she's reading, Eddie's on the phone, Jake's always calling. The last few weeks were nice, Eddie gives Loren her space, she stays busy tutoring Alex, and planning her wedding, it's going to be small, close to 100 guests, she has the dress, Cam took care of everything else.
They land in L.A, the limo drops Loren off first, she kisses Alex good bye and gives Eddie a small smile, she walks into her home. She calls her mom and Mel, she realizes no one is home, she pulls her suitcase and the box that holds her wedding dress into her room, she takes a shower, a few hours later, Nora's home. She smiles when she realizes Loren's in the kitchen making a cup of tea.
"Hey, you're home, I missed you."
Loren hugs her mom tight. "Missed ya too, it's good to be home."
"How's life with a Rock star?"
"Too busy, Eddie works non-stop, he has no life, but, he stops everything for Alex, his son is his priority, his life is crazy."
"Imagine if you two were married, would he have time for you?"
Loren shrugs her shoulders. "I think he would."
Nora holds Loren's face. "How was it? I was worried about you."
"We had our moments, he won't give up mom, it's too late."
"Why is it too late?"
Mel walks in on time and hears Nora question. "Tell your mom."
"Mel.." Loren sighs. "I told you no."
Nora looks at Mel, and back to Loren. "Tell me what? Loren you and I have no secrets, what are you keeping from me?"
Loren glares at Mel. "It's nothing mom."
Mel doesn't care if Loren's upset. "Cam has some sort of heart condition and Loren promised his sister she wouldn't break his heart, or hurt him because it may cause him his life."
"Mel! I can't believe you just did that!"
Nora turns to Loren. "Is that why you're going through with this? Loren you can't do this! You deserve to be happy, this whole mess wasn't caused by Eddie, it was caused by Lorie, why would you marry Cam because of his heart?"
"Because I promised his sister I would, even though I don't love Cam, this wedding will happen."
Nora makes sure Loren looks at her. "No, you can't do this, this isn't the answer, you're going to be miserable the rest of your life."
Loren turns off the tea kettle that's already hissing. "I need your support with this whole mess mom, Cam was offered a job in London for a year, after we get married, we're leaving, I'll be far away from everything, far away from Eddie."
"And Alex? Have you thought of that little boy who loves you?"
Loren looks at her mom with pleading eyes. "I love him too, but he's not my problem, I need to do this, get away from this, maybe just maybe, I'll feel normal."
Mel hugs Loren. "I'm sorry, I had to tell your mom, it's going to be ok, you'll see." She makes sure Loren looks at her. "I promise you, it's going to be ok, you'll get what you been waiting for."
'Thanks Mel." Loren furrows her eyebrows looking straight at Mel. "Why? What have you done?"
"I've done nothing my sweet friend." She walks away smiling, deep down she knows something has to be done, if she loses Loren's friendship along the way, it'll be worth it, because her friend will be happy.
The wedding's 3 weeks away; Loren stays busy with Alex and his lessons. "I'm going to be gone after I get married."
"Who are you going marry? I thought you're going to marry my dad."
"No Alex, the man I'm going to marry is Cam."
"Daddy and I love you, we need you."
Loren's heart is breaking. "I'm sorry sweetie, I'll call you, I'm making arrangements for a new tutor to see you when I'm gone."
Alex starts to cry. "I don't want anybody else, I want you."
"I'm going to be living far from here; I can't be your tutor anymore."
She gets her things together. "I'll see you tomorrow Alex."
Linda walks in. "Thank you." Loren gives Alex a kiss, he moves away.
"That's rude Alex, you need to apologize."
"It's fine Linda." She leaves, her eyes fill with tears, she doesn't want to hurt the little boy, she doesn't want to hurt Eddie.
"You're not supposed to behave that way." Linda tells Alex.
"I don't want Loren to leave us Aunt Linda, we need her."
"Did your dad tell you that?"
"He's always talking about Loren; he says we need her."
Linda kneels down to his eye level. "Sweetie, sometimes we can't have everything we want."
Alex frowns. "I need a mommy, Loren is the mommy I want."
"Oh sweetie, go wash up, dinner is ready." Alex walks away stomping his feet, Eddie walks in and hears the noise. "Why is he upset?"
Linda sighs. "Can you guess?"
"Loren?"
"Yes, she's getting married in 3 weeks, she told Alex she's making arrangements for a new tutor."
"That again!" Eddie slams his hand on the table.
"Yes, she's leaving for good Eddie, Nora told me Cam has a new job, they're leaving for London, she's not coming back."
Eddie sits in the nearest chair. "She's going through with this?"
"Yes; her mind is made up."
"What am I going to do Aunt Linda?"
"Like I've said before, deal with it and move on."
"I don't want anybody else; I want Loren."
"Right now we need to have dinner; your son is waiting at the table for us!"
Loren wants to stop time; the closer her wedding day gets, she feels anxious, how will she survive the day? It's supposed to be the happiest day of her life.
Her dress hangs in the back of her bedroom door, it's beautiful, mermaid style, not too fancy, it has little pearls that surround the top part of the dress, the bottom is wrapped with chiffon and interlined with silk. The small veil hangs to the side of the dress, her earrings and necklace are made out of pearls with little white diamonds. She walks into her closet and gets the gown she was supposed to wear the night she was going to marry Eddie. She still has it, it's simple and special, it reminds her of Eddie. She puts it in front of her and looks in the mirror, Mel walks into the room.
"You still have that dress?"
"Yes, I love it, it's simple, means so much to me."
"I know it is Lo."
"We'd be celebrating our wedding anniversary."
Mel watches Loren caress the dress. "Your wedding dress is very beautiful."
Loren touches the dress that's hanging from her bedroom door. "I know, but this one is my favorite."
"You should wear it."
Loren doesn't answer. Mel notices and doesn't say another word. She sits next to her best friend.
A few days later Linda stops by to see Nora, she's in the back working on her garden. "You work too hard."
"Hey Linda, I love to keep busy."
"Busy is good; you have a variety of vegetables."
"Feel free to take some, this heat isn't helping, I have to make sure I water them every day."
Nora notices Linda wants to say something. "Is everything ok?"
She hands Nora a gift bag. "This is for Loren, I couldn't give it to her at the house, please make sure she gets it."
"Thank you Linda, what's wrong? I can tell something is bothering you."
Linda sighs. "I'm worried, very worried."
"About what? Is Loren ok?"
"Yes, I'm worried for Alex and Eddie, with Loren getting married; I have two very sad guys at home."
"I know; I've told Loren this isn't the way to do it."
"What do you mean?" Linda wonders.
"She's not in love with Cam, she loves Eddie, she always will."
"I know, I have a very restless Eddie at home, he can't imagine what he'll do the day she marries Cam, he's talking about leaving, Alex doesn't want any other tutor, he wants Loren, I don't know what else to say or do."
Nora hugs her dear friend. "You're as caring as Katy was; I know Katy would have never allowed Lorie to get in the way of Loren and Eddie's happiness."
"That's for sure, are you sure you're related to Lorie?" Nora asks.
Linda smiles. "Yes, she wasn't always like this, after we lost our parents, she left everything to raise Katy and I, I guess that made her bitter."
"So she takes it out on others." Nora adds.
"I'm sorry; I wish I knew what to do to see my nephew and his son happy."
"I'm with you on that, I'd love to see my Loren happy too."
"Is everything ready?"
"Yes, in 5 days, Loren will marry Cam, they leave for London, he has a job there, the thought of Loren being so far, I'm going to miss her."
Mel's walks out of the house. "I'll be back on time for dinner, bye Linda."
Linda waves and smiles. "I better get going, got to make sure dinner is on time, Loren's there with Alex, he's enjoying his last few days with her."
"I'll see you later, thanks."
Linda leaves, and Nora walks back into the house, she places the gift Linda left on the table, she washes some of the vegies from her garden, she's using those for dinner that evening.
Mel stops in front of a building, she's nervous, but deep down she knows this is something she has to do, Loren would never allow her to do it, but, at this very moment she knows it's in her hands, she can't take it anymore, the last straw was watching Loren with the wedding dress she was supposed to use on her wedding to Eddie.
She parks and gets out of the car, she checks her phone to make sure this is the right address; she has to be very sneaky, she got the address from Loren's phone.
She heads towards the door and opens it; she looks at the mailbox and sees the name Phillips written on the box.
She takes the elevator to the 3rd floor and looks for apt. 305, she knocks, her heart is beating fast, it feels like a heart attack is about to happen, she knocks again.
Cam opens the door; he smiles when he sees her. "Hey Mel, what brings you here today? Is Loren ok?"
"Yes she's great, listen Cam, can we talk?"
"Sure, come in, can I get you anything?"
Mel walks in and turns towards Cam. "We need to talk, please listen carefully, what I have to say is very important."
