Chapter Seven: Starting Over in Kanto
It did not take me long before I went into Professor Oak's lab and received my new partner, Squirtle, naming him Leonardo after the Ninja Turtle leader. As I left the lab I was challenged by Gary the professor's grandson with his Bulbasaur. Gary had his Bulbasaur start off with a growl to which Leonardo replied with a tackle. The two Pokémon then traded a pair of tackles with each other. That continued until Bulbasaur gave off a final growl before Leonardo knocked him out with a tackle allowing the turtle Pokémon to gain a level up to level six.
While traveling north along Route 1 towards Viridian City I met an employee of the Pokémon Mart who gave me a potion as a sample. After that I continued on my way to Viridian City and went to the Pokémon center to store my motorcycle before exploring the city. I saw a fisherman at the local pond and talked to him for a bit which netted me one of his old fishing rods. After that I went to the local school where one of the students gave me a pair of wise glasses. Then I proceeded to the Pokémon Mart where I was given a package for Professor Oak to deliver. With that in hand I made my way back to Pallet Town.
Once I made it back to Pallet Town I delivered the package to Professor Oak and received my bonus poke balls for the glitch that I had experienced. With my old rod in hand I went fishing in the south of Pallet Town catching a female Tentacool that I named Cathlulu. After that I made my way back to Viridian City and decided to fish in the pond there where I caught a female Slowpoke that I named Pokey. When I went North towards Route 2 I was stopped by one of Professor Oak's aides who gave me some Oran Berries and a Dex Nav which told me there was another Pokémon that I could fish up in Viridian City making me go back there. I also explored the little city park that night and came across a male Marill that I named Max after I caught him. I followed this up with fishing some more until I landed a male Chinchou that I called Lanturn once he was caught. With my current team set I ventured out to Route 22 after using rare candies to level my whole team up to level fifteen. Along the way I found another potion before running into Gary who challenged me to another battle.
Gary led off with a level nine Starly which frisked Lanturn to find an Oran Berry. The Starly got off a quick attack before Lanturn took it out with a shock wave. Then Gary sent out his level ten Bulbasaur to which I changed out Lanturn for Pokey who was covered in leech seeds. Bulbasaur growled at Pokey who knocked him out with a psybeam. After the battle Gary stormed off without a backwards glance and I went back to Viridian City to heal up before I headed north to continue my journey. Once I had passed the southern section of Route 2 I found myself headed into the Viridian Forest.
Shortly after entering the forest I ran into another trainer named Brendan who challenged me to a battle. Brendan led off with a level seven Corphish who fell to Lanturn and his shock wave. Brendan followed that with a level eight Treecko who attempted to used leer as I switched Lanturn out for Cathlulu. Cathlulu wasted no time in finishing the battle with an acid attack. Brendon was a good sport about the battle as he gave me an Experience Share along with a Stat Scanner. I proceeded through the rest of the forest being challenged by bug catchers and used Max to roll over them with rollout. After I finished going through the forest I reached the northern section of Route 2 and found a small cave that I decided to explore and noted a sign listing it as an off shoot of Diglette's Cave. While exploring the cave I found the TM for thief. After that little side track I continued north into Pewter City. While in Pewter City I explored the museum and bumped into Falkner the flying type gym leader from the Johto region. Falkner was polite enough as he rambled on about Mega Stones and said he had time to battle me.
Falkner led off with a level thirteen Rufflet that used slash on Pokey only for her to reply with a thunder wave. Pokey then used water pulse which confused the flying type Pokémon causing Rufflet to hurt itself. Rufflet drank some berry juice to heal itself before Pokey landed a critical hit with a psybeam and Rufflet hurt itself in confusion again. After Pokey knocked Rufflet out with another psybeam Falkner sent out a level thirteen Emolga. Pokey could not stand up to the thunder mouse who used shockwave and I sent out Lanturn to slow it down. Falkner switched in a level fourteen Corvsquire who was paralyzed by Lanturn's thunder wave. I then had Lanturn use a shock wave to weaken the bird before it drank the berry juice that it held and plucked Lanturn's Oran berry. Lanturn continued to use shock wave to reduce Corvsquire's health only for the bird to fail to respond due to being paralyzed. Before a final shock wave could knock the bird out Falkner switched Emolga in who gained a special attack bonus from his lightning rod ability. Emolga used air cutter to hurt Lanturn only to be confused by the a supersonic in return. After avoiding another air cutter Lanturn used bubble which barely hurt Emolga. I decided to switch in Max as Emolga settled down to roost. Max barely survived a shock wave to eat his Oran berry before starting in with a rollout. After Emolga hurt himself in confusion Max missed with rollout. After snapping out of confusion Emolga used a shock wave to knock Max out forcing me to send in Leonardo. Emolga continued to used shockwave to decimating affect with his Oran berry being the only thin to allow Leonardo to get off a water pulse. The second shock wave knocked out Leonardo and made me send out Cathlulu. Emolga used roost to recover before Cathlulu could knock him out with a spray of acid. The thunder mouse continued to use shock wave as Cathlulu replied with a rapid spin increasing her speed. The speed boost allowed Cathlulu to get off a second attack before falling to the continual shock waves from Emolga. With Lanturn as my final Pokémon I sent him out to face the weakened Emolga. Emolga roosted to regain his health as he avoided a supersonic blast from Lanturn. After finishing up his healing Emolga used an air cutter only to he hit by the bubbles that Lanturn spewed. Emolga continued to use roost to regain health as Lanturn used bubble to try and reduce to annoyance's health. After two turns of this Lanturn finally confused Emolga with a supersonic to try and break the deadlock. It took two turns of Emolga hitting itself in confusion and missing with an air cutter all the while Lanturn hit the thunder mouse with bubbles for the stalemate to end. Now with only one Pokémon each Lanturn faced off against the paralyzed Corvsquire. A quick shock wave from Lanturn ended the battle in my favor.
After the battle Falkner gave me TM 51 which contained Roost. I went back to the Pokémon Center to heal up my Pokémon for the night before I would go and challenge the gym. I faced off with Brock's understudy Camper Liam shortly after entering the gym and being told the rules of the gym challenge. Liam led off with a level eleven Rolycoly who tackled Cathlulu after being surrounded by toxic spikes. A water gun finished the Rolycoly off before Liam sent out a Drilbur that was poisoned by the spikes before being hit by Cathlulu's water gun and scratching her in return. Cathlulu ended the battle with a simple rapid spin. I used a potion to heal Cathlulu before challenging Brock with his four Pokémon.
Brock led off with a level four Alolan Geodude that used bulldoze after Cathlulu set up toxic spikes. Cathlulu ate her Oran berry before she used water gun to weaken Geodude and being taken out be a shock wave. I sent out Max who finished Geodude off with an aqua jet. Brock sent out a Vulpix in return who was poisoned by the spikes before another aqua jet weakened the fox Pokémon who drank some berry juice before using incinerate to destroy the berry Max was holding. Max knocked the Vulpix out with another aqua jet before Brock sent out his ace a level fifteen Onix that landed in the spikes and was poisoned. Max used aqua jet to get in some damage before Onix drank his berry juice and used bulldoze to weaken Max. Max continued to used aqua jet to keep on the pressure as it held priority before Onix replied with another bulldoze and feinted to the poison from the toxic spikes. Brock's final Pokémon was a level fourteen Archen who avoided the spikes by flying over them. Max got off a final aqua jet before Archen drank his berry juice and used pluck to knock him out. I sent out Lanturn who used shock wave to end the battle in my favor. Afterwards Brock gave me TM 39 Rock Tomb along with the boulder badge.
After a night of rest I went in search of more Pokémon for my team starting with a male Wingull that I named Nigel after the character from Finding Nemo. I followed that up with catching a female Lotad in Pewter City that I named Rosa. With those new friends on my team I started to leave Pewter City and head towards Mount Moon. As I was leaving the city I was stopped one of Professor Oak's aides who gave me a Dynamax Band. With that I headed out and made my way through Route 3 and stopped for the night at the Pokémon Center outside Mount Moon.
