The Promise Hollywood Heights
I'm truly sorry Chapter 16
Cam looks at Mel, he's not sure why she's there.
"What's up Mel?"
Mel lets out a huge sigh. "I'm sorry Cam, I don't mean to bud in, you have to have known that Loren and Eddie were going to get married."
Cam's still trying to figure out where Mel is headed with this. "Yeah I knew, I always liked Loren, I knew she only had eyes for Eddie."
"She still does Cam, she loves him, she will always love him, I don't think it's fair to you."
Cam furrows his eye. "She still loves him? But she's going to marry me in a few days."
"She knows about your heart condition, when you started dating, your sister made Loren Promise she wouldn't break your heart, I can't allow Loren to go ahead with this wedding, she's loves Eddie."
"Wait is this out of pity?"
"No Cam, she cares for you, her true love will always be Eddie, bad things happened and it broke them apart, the love they have for each other is still there, please don't be mad, or upset, I can't see my best friend, who's like a sister to me, go through with this wedding."
Cam looks out of window. "Wow, I knew she loved Eddie, I didn't think she still did."
"She doesn't want to hurt you, she promised your sister, a promise is very important to Loren, she'll go through with this wedding, I'm afraid she'll never be happy and it's not fair to you."
"What am I supposed to do? What if I don't care, she can learn to love me."
"I know you care, you're not a selfish man?"
"Selfish? I love her too, the moment we met, I knew she was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with."
"I struggled to come here today, the last thing I want to do is hurt you Cam, and it kills me to see Loren hurting, she doesn't want to hurt you Cam, her heart belongs to Eddie."
"Do you realize what this is doing to me?"
"Yes, I didn't want to do this, Loren doesn't know I'm here, this might end our friendship, her happiness is very important to me, it matters to me, I hope it matters to you too."
Mel can tell he's hurting, she didn't want to get involved, deep down she knows this is the only way Loren can be happy with the man she's always loved.
"I'm sorry, don't hate Loren, none of this is her fault."
"I can't hate her; why couldn't she tell me?"
"Your health is important to Loren, your sister made sure she knew about it."
"My sister had no business saying anything, she worries too much, yes, I have a problem, but nothing that will kill me."
"I'm sorry Cam, you had to know; I'll leave it in your hands, I won't say we spoke today, you decide Cam, I'm truly sorry."
"No worries Mel; I don't want to be a fool for the rest of my life."
"Loren hasn't done anything to make you feel like a fool, she respected the fact that the two of you are engaged, she's never said anything to Eddie, she tutors his son, it ends there."
"I know, I trust Loren, this hurts like crazy, I appreciate what you've done, you've opened my eyes."
"This was my own doing; Loren doesn't know, please don't call her and telling her anything, she would kill me if she knew what I did."
"No worries, I really need to be alone." He opens the door.
Mel hugs him. "Thank you, I'm sorry." She leaves, her heart is racing, what she did took guts, she didn't like the idea of hurting Cam, this might be the only chance Loren has to be happy, maybe he'll see things her way and give Loren the opportunity to be happy with Eddie and Alex. Maybe he'll call off the wedding, will Loren end their friendship? Mel sighs, she knows she has to be strong because she might lose Loren.
She's home, Loren writing on her iPad. "You still working?"
"I'm getting things ready for the new teacher; she'll meet with Eddie week after I'm gone, she's older, I think that will help Alex, I'm writing her a few notes."
"I can't believe your wedding is a few days away." Mel wonders.
"I know, is your dress ready?" Loren asks.
"Thanks for reminding me, I'm tired, I'll check to see if I can pick it up tomorrow."
Loren rolls her eyes. "You're so forgetful Mel, you can't forget your dress, go and make sure it's ready."
"I'm relieved it's just me standing up in your wedding?"
Loren sighs. "I'm glad it's just you."
Mel walks into her room, Nora's home. "Hey baby girl, you busy?"
"Almost done, do you have more grocery bags?"
"No, grab that gallon of milk."
Loren helps her mom with the groceries. "Linda dropped this off for you."
She hands Loren the gift bag. "She stopped by?"
"Yes, she came by earlier." Nora says.
"Why didn't she give it to me when I saw her?" Loren wonders.
"I don't know sweetie, check and see what it is."
Loren takes out the tissue paper and her eyes widen when she sees a wooden box.
Nora sighs. "That's Katy's jewelry box."
"This is beautiful, why me?"
"She wants you to have something that belonged to Katy, I remember that box, Max made it for Katy, she loved it."
"I will cherish this gift, I loved Katy very much, I miss her." She opens it and finds a picture. "There's a picture of Katy with Eddie, Alex looks like a lot like his father." Loren adds.
"I know, Alex gets his good looks from him, I love his blue eyes."
"Those are from Chloe." Loren mutters.
Loren stares at the picture. "You ok?"
"Yes mom, Eddie was 6 in this picture, we had great times, he was good at playing hide and go seek." She smiles.
"Half the time he didn't look for you; I hope you knew that."
Loren smiles. "Yes, I finally figured it out."
Nora notices she's crying. "Oh honey."
Loren wipes her tears. "I love him mom, I wish I could tell him, I'll never be able too."
Nora hugs her. "Loren sweetie, there is still time, talk to Cam, tell him how you feel, I'm sure he'll understand."
"I can't; I can't hurt him."
"Look at you, what are you going to do the day you marry him, you realize you have to sleep with him?"
"Mom, why did you have to say that?"
Nora laughs. "Are you going to have a headache each night?"
Loren turns around. "I refuse to talk to you about this, I'm going to shower."
Nora smiles; she distracted Loren. She walks into her room. "Why are you using my cream?"
"I always use it, what's with you?"
"Can you believe my mom wanted to talk about sex?"
"Never mind, pretend, I didn't ask!"
"I need you out of the bathroom, I'm going to shower." Loren says.
"Ok, ok, I'm leaving, by the way, I'll pick up my dress tomorrow."
"I think we're set for the big day."
"Yes, unless you have other ideas." Mel smirks.
"I'm taking a shower." She closes the door behind her. Mel lets out a huge sigh, she's done her part, now she'll wait for the outcome.
It's a day before her wedding, Loren gives Alex his last lesson, he isn't happy to see her. "I don't want anybody." He demands.
"Are you still mad at me?"
"Yes, I only want you to be my teacher and mommy." He says while pouting away.
"Let's not have any lessons today, would you like to spend the day with me?"
He smiles, and looks at her. "Really? Where would we go?"
"Today is Alex day, you pick?"
"Can we go to the fair Loren?"
"Sure, let's get lunch first."
Loren tells Linda where they're headed. Eddie's in a hurry, he has an appointment with Jake in an hour.
"Where's Alex?" He wonders.
"Loren took him to the fair, I hope it's alright?"
"No problem, are you going to the store today?"
"Yes, what you need anything?" Linda wonders.
"Here's a list, thanks for your help." Eddie says.
"I'll go now, see ya later." Linda walks out of the door.
Eddie's getting his things together, he's planning his next tour, this time he's headed south.
The doorbell rings, he smiles, Aunt Linda probably forgot something. He opens the door. "What did you forget?"
It's Cam. "Can we need talk?"
Eddie isn't too pleased to see Loren's fiancé. "Yeah sure, come in, what can I do for you?"
"It's about Loren?"
Eddie stops what he's doing and turns towards Cam. "What about Loren? Is she ok?"
"She's fine, please listen."
Oh boy! Now what?
