Chapter 13
The Claws of the
Clouds Mountains
They had a restful night and woke up to Stonemover with a pile of various game he had caught as a thank you. The large Nightwing thanked them before he flies away to the Sand Kingdom to look for his mate, Thorn.
"Well it was nice of him to catch us breakfast," said Sandstar nibbling on a rabbit. Sandwings had ridiculously small appetites. She had already forgiven Frostbite and Inferno's rude tones from yesterday since she understood their point of view.
"I suppose so," said Oleander looking at the game Stonemover had given them.
"Something wrong with it?" asked Crane with her mouthful.
"Rainwings don't eat meat," replied Oleander, "well, we don't by choice."
"I still have some of the berries you collected yesterday," said Inferno reaching into one of the side pouches.
"Thank you," Oleander taking the berries from Inferno.
"What do berries taste like?" asked Frostbite, looking that the fruit in Oleander's talons.
"You haven't eaten berries before?" asked Oleander equal parts curious and horrified
"Trees don't grow in the Ice Kingdom," said Frostbite
"Or in the Sea Kingdom," added Slipstream, "the closest thing we have is coconuts."
"Here," said Oleander holding out two berries.
"Thanks," said Slipstream, as he and Frostbite out them in their mouths.
"The is nice," said Frostbite
"Um," said Slipstream with a funny look on his face.
"Fruit isn't for everyone," said Oleander with a small smile as she looked at Slipstream's face.
"What is our plan for today?" asked Nightshade between taking ravenous bites off his piece of meat.
"More searching, I guess," said Oleander with a shrug.
"Do we even know what we are looking for?" asked Inferno crossly.
"Maybe," said Oleander with a serious look, "could Slipstream make some kind of location spell?"
"Um," said Slipstream uncertainly, "possible?"
"We couldn't have done this early?" groaned Frostbite.
"If one us had thought about it earlier, yes," said Oleander shooting Frostbite a look that said, 'if you are going to complain, why didn't you suggest it earlier.'.
"I need something to enchant," said Slipstream looking around the cave mouth.
"Here," said Sandstar grabbing a stick off ground and handing it to Slipstream.
"Thanks," said Slipstream taking the stick with a small smile, "I enchant this stick to lead us to Dragonets of Destiny."
The stick was still of a moment and then shuddered and tried to pull itself out of Slipstreams talons.
"Well," said Sandstar hopefully, "I think it worked."
"If you are all done eating," said Oleander, "I think we should leave."
All the dragonets nodded, and Nightshade and Crane took one last bite of the prey before following the others out of the cave and towards the Sky Kingdom.
