Mountains stretched on and on all around me now, with a few here and there reaching high enough to have a white, snowy peak.

Between the mountains were the deep valleys, full of lush, green forests and grasslands.

Every now and then, the silhouette of a dragon came into view, but I kept my distance from them, not wanting any unnecessary attention.

I continued flying on, getting closer every second to the city, by now, it should only be a few minutes away.

It was dusk, and darkness was soon approaching, but luckily, I spotted the city in the distance, plumes of smoke rising into the sky and the glimmering Skywing palace.

As I approached the city, I began my descent as to not cause any trouble, since the new law Ruby had passed of no-fly zones in pretty much every major city in the Skywing Kingdom rather than just the capital only.

I landed in front of the gate and began walking towards it, making my way towards the city.

Two guards in plate, metallic armor covering their torso and top area of their head, while holding spears, with one on each side of the gate.

There were surprisingly few dragons entering the city, considering it was one of the major cities of the kingdom. Usually merchants, traders, visitors, and whatnot would usually be bustling around, coming and going.

I focused on the guards out of the corners of my eyes, to see if they would do anything strange, but nothing.

They continued to be as stiff as a rock and surveying the dragons entering and leaving with their eyes.

I expected something unexpected for me being a Nightwing.

I quickly moved on and into the city, looking around for anything to help find my father.

To be honest, I didn't have much of any clues to where he went or as to why, but I am sure I could conclude a few things from what I know of him.

He had been researching leads in the Skywing Kingdom about humans, apparently, since the queen's declared humans, or scavengers they called them, as intelligent beings whom dragons could not eat, and so, dragon-human relationships have begun to improve. Especially around this city, Velvet, where a human settlement moved to near the dragon city and formed an alliance of sorts. From what I recall, the humans impressed the leader and council of Velvet with their technology that they came to agreements.

I believe things such as trade are permitted, although for only a number of select humans and dragons, and that they would need escorts. Technology trading between the two cities, to improve both sides, as well as protection from other dragons.

Which I would say is the greatest city of all of Pyrrhia with its unique relationship between dragons and humans.

But anyways, how all this ties into this is that this unique relationship usually brings dragons and humans from across the continent to visit and trade, which is odd that there are no humans and few dragons coming and leaving today. But also, that there was a recent rumor a year ago that a female human had become Queen of the human city, with descriptions such as silky brown hair, eyes like the greenest of emeralds, and the skin of milk.

It had me and father truly curious about this person, but we had no current plans to go there, since it didn't make sense if mother was still alive is how she would be queen of a city, much less not looking for us, her husband and son?

These clues didn't add up, but our most recent expedition did not bring up any results, we thought that if she was still alive, she would have moved to a nearby city from where I grew up, but the lead was a dead end.

That is why I believe that Father left home to here, but why so urgently without warning, I do not know, I hope...

I hope it was for good reason is all.

I think I should explore, look around the city for anything familiar before looking in the human city.

I continued my way down the streets, but not as nearly as bustling as books foretold, there was no vibrant charm or exotic feel to the place today, unlike how the books described it.

I continued to walk around the paths, looking at shops and down alleys.

As I reached the city center, I looked at where a large stone statue of a dragon and human stood, with the dragon and human giving some sort of gift to each other. What was inscribed on the foundation of it was "For peace, for prosperity, we shall unite and have longevity."

I broke my attention from the statue and began surveying my three options of paths to explore.

I could take the left, which would lead further into a path outside the city to the human city, or I go straight ahead, towards the government related buildings, or I can go right, where more shops and businesses are currently located.

I should look around some more before I go visit the human city.

I decided to go straight on ahead, where the government related structures would be, after all, I'd rather not go into a tavern, I am not one to be near drunk dragons. I continued onwards and the scenery changed, greenery and buildings became more organized and well maintained, the dragons looked more formal in posture and aura, and the path even became nicer into a soft, but hard, sandy gravel path.

I gazed around the area, but I did not see any dragons of black scales like my father's.

I had better find an inn to stay at for the night, it was already dark now, and it's really hard to see a dragon in black scales, a Nightwing more specifically, at night.

I headed back towards an inn I had seen early named "The Velvet Rose Inn" and entered.

I quietly walked up to the innkeeper and then grabbed a few silver coins from inside my satchel and handed them to the innkeeper.

They took a quick glance at the coins before snatching them and then depositing them in a small sack, then said, "Number 3."

I went on my way and up the stairs towards room number "3".

It was the first wooden door on the second floor and I then entered the room.

The room consisted of a singular, wool bedding, a window, a candle on a shelf, and a small desk.

I closed the door behind me and moved closer to the windows, watching the moons, slowly rising into the midnight sky.

"I better log in my ventures today in my journal," I murmured to myself.

I turned around towards the table like desk and placed my satchel on top of it, and then taking out my journal. I also grabbed my ink and feather tip, and then opened up my journal.

Todays ventures were rather unsuccessful, no clues or leads onto the whereabouts of Father, but, tomorrow, I will continue my searches into the nearby human city, I too am curious about the Queen of this human city and their surrounding territory.

Speaking of which, it has now just come to me that how did this come to be? Since humans and dragons speak different languages, how did they communicate this relationship?

There are some things I do not know which I wish to know, perhaps in my journeys I will discover the answer, but I conclude that it may be of an animus touched object that translates for both sides, since I only know of one such dragon and human who are capable of speaking dragon and human.

But in the short amount of time of these past two years where these two cities developed, I don't believe that a dragon or human could of learned the others language so quickly unless they were quite skilled, a prodigy to say.

There I go, rambling on again, these are in depth questions for another time, for now, I must focus on my objective.

Also, it appears that Velvet has had some odd peculiarities today, such as the lesser amount of people commuting around the city itself, as well as the gloomy feel the outskirts of the city felt, but the government center of the city seemed rather active.

Not in so much as a gleeful or sorrowful mist, but rather a monotone, grey, like feeling. If I am correct, it seemed something has happened here of great absurdness or was an anomaly to the day-to-day life here, perhaps a death of an important someone?

These are the mysterious which will leave my mind restless throughout the night as I ponder, but that is the records of todays report.

In a sense, I could see this anomaly of this city as a clue to the whereabouts of my father, but, there is little proof of that.

This is all I have to say, tomorrow, I will be visiting the human city in my human form in hopes of more information and perhaps clues to my father and mother.

I stared at the page I had just written upon for a few seconds before refocusing my attention back to the real world.

I gently closed my journal and packed up my ink and feather tip before heading off to sleep in the rather comfortable bedding, although it caused a bit of itching and rubbing against my scales.
