Chapter Seven – Flight

Sukko had no idea how long he was out, but when he came too, there was a weight across his legs. There was a huge amount of noise around him, and as he sat up, there were lots of people milling about. Someone immediately rushed over to him.

"Hey, finally, your awake!" He said, gleefully. It was Tails. The two-tailed Fox appeared to have accepted him, to Sukko's surprise and now seemed organising some kind of military operation. People were moving past his bed, at an alarming rate. Sukko rubbed his eyes. His head was rather sore. What was going on? He asked Tails.

"We're moving out!" He exclaimed. "Your Intelligence was incredible. We've been watching Eggman for the past few weeks and now we leaving. He's due to strike Sunset City within days. Are you coming? We could do with everyone we can get." He asked. Sukko stared.

What! It was a lot of information to take in. He be out for just a few weeks. He gulped. He'd used equivalent power or maybe even more then his final battle with the Zombots, and that knocked him out for several months. Were he powers in Chaos Sorcery growing faster then he realised, as his ability to handle the drain was improving. Maybe even to the point where he'd never feel it at all. He gulped. That would make him ruthlessly powerful. Too powerful, maybe. Sukko looked at Tails.

"Several weeks?" He gasped and then he smirked. "As to the Intelligence, its what I do. It's my job. I take it you like the Resistance Intelligence Network?" He smiled, to Tails' very excited nodding. Then he realised something. "Shouldn't you have moved out long before now?" He wondered. Tails sighed and rolled his eyes.

"Yeah." He huffed. "We would have done, except someone refused to leave your side." He grinned. Sukko looked down. He now realised what the weight was across his legs. Someone was lying on him, while still being sat a chair at the side of his bed. Resting his head and his arms across the bed, a slow rumble told Sukko he was fast asleep. Sukko giggled. He wasn't surprised at all that Sonic could sleep in this much noise. Sonic, like himself, could sleep absolutely anywhere if tired enough. He looked down at his brother and bit his lip. He felt honoured that Sonic hadn't left him. He would have done the same for him but this was different. Sonic was the Hero, he was just the Intelligence guy. It seems that without Sonic, things were ruthlessly slow going at the Restoration. It had taken them a long time, just get themselves sorted enough to leave for this battle.

As for going to Sunset City. Sukko shuddered. Fighting on the front line. He'd never done that before. Were the Restoration actually inviting him to do it? He wasn't used to this level of acceptance. Suddenly a second person moved beside Tails, causing the little Fox to jump.

"Silver!" He squealed, hugging the pale grey Hedgehog. "What are you doing here?" He asked. Silver smiled, carefully watching the twins on the bed. "Sonic called me. I have no idea how, but he got a message through two hundred years of time, and it said that to come and help his brother with something." He shrugged. "So here I am." He added. He was obviously incredibly curious about Sukko, and decided not to pass up the opportunity to work with him. Sukko stared. They both looked at him.

"Me?" He questioned. He then looked down at Sonic, who was still asleep. He shrugged. He had no idea what Sonic was playing at. He didn't think he needed any help with anything, but he implicitly trusted his brother, his loyalty to him un-breaking. Like a big brother protecting the younger brother. He sighed. That was true, but there was only three minutes in it, but still, it was a gap. Sukko remembered back to their very early childhood, and how Sonikku was so much smaller then him. So much so, that the Doctors feared for his survival. But with their parents gone, Sukko took it onto to himself to look after him. Something that's never really left him. Sonikku made it and Sukko couldn't have been more proud. But the main connection, was their Psychic Link, which made their bond even stronger, so no way would he ever turn on him. So Sukko was now himself incredibly curious as to what was going on. He was about to prod Sonic, when he was suddenly cut across. Silver stopped him.

"Hey." He stammered. "There's a rumour going around that you two have a Psychic Link. Is that true?" He asked, very interested. Sukko raised an eyebrow at that, and wasn't surprised at Silver for asking that. From what he'd heard about the Hedgehog, with his own Psychokinesis, he was genuinely curious. Out of deep respect for him, Sukko smiled and nodded. Both Tails and Silver eyes widened and both looked excited. Sukko grinned and held up his hand up calm them. Silently, he pointed to Sonic and then put up three fingers, lowering them as he counted down.

Three, two, one...

{WAKE UP, SONIKKU!} Sukko roared inside his head. But nobody heard a sound. Sonic jumped an absolute mile, putting his hands over his ears, then putting head back on the bed. He groaned.

"Sukko, please don't shout. It hurts my head." He heaved. There was giggling all around him. He put his head up again. What was funny? Then someone whistled at him, to get his attention. It worked.

"Sukko!" He squealed, and immediately embraced him. Sukko was surprised.

"Hey, what gives?" He asked. "Did you not think I'd wake up or something?" He smirked. Sonic sighed.

"After what I'd seen with the R.I.N., I didn't know you were capable of such power. Plus, while you were asleep, you vanished from me for a while, which made me...panic." He admitted, biting his lip. But Silver cut across.

"But you still had faith, because you sent for me." He giggled, eager to find out his mission. He'd gone back to his own future straight after the Metal Virus, and hadn't been back since. Sonic stared at Silver.

"Wow, you heard me. I genuinely didn't think that would work." He said, astonished. Tails frowned.

"How did you do it?" He asked. Sonic smiled, and looked at Sukko. He giggled.

"I didn't do it. He did." Pointing a Sukko. Sukko raised an eyebrow. "I don't have the Telepathic power to send a message to you but he does. So I concentrated, used the Psychic Link, and I don't know, yelled. It was a total long shot and it worked." He said absolutely thrilled. Sukko sighed. Now he understood why his head hurt. He huffed at Sonic.

"So why is he here?" He snapped, folding his arms. Time for Sonic to get to the point. He sighed and turned to Silver.

"You can fly, can't you, with your Psychokinesis?" He asked. Silver nodded.

"Sure." He said. "But why?" He wondered. Sonic giggled.

"Can you teach Captain Grumpy here how to do it." He announced, indicating Sukko. Sukko's eyes widened. He was stunned.

"But Sonic. I can't fly. Psychokinesis is not Chaos Sorcery. They are two completely different Chaos Powers. True flight through Chaos Sorcery is impossible. It's the wrong kind of power for it. The best you can do is, well, hover." He shrugged. He looked sad. Sonic rounded on him.

"Well, I don't believe that." He spat. "You said we inherited our powers from our parents, and the fact we're twins is down to the fact that one embryo wasn't strong enough to handle all that power, so it split into two." He paused. "Well, the split wasn't clean. If I can Chaos Control without an Chaos Emerald, which you said was a Chaos Sorcery trick, then there must be some element of you that had some Super-Speed in it. If it's not in your feet, then..." He giggled, letting the sentence hang. He pointed upward.

Sukko was stunned but Sonic did have an extremely good point. If Sonic could Teleport via Magic, then he must have had some Super-Speed somewhere. Suddenly Tails and Silver were very excited. Sonic rounded on Sukko.

"Look, get up and humour me. We need everyone we can find for this fight." He spat, and then immediately left, with Tails rapidly following him, leaving Silver alone with Sukko. Soon the Doctor came round, and cleared Sukko to leave. He sighed. This seemed too much, too fast. Could he even do what his brother was asking? As he wondered through the Restoration, Silver joined him. They talked, mainly about the differences between Psychokinesis, and Chaos Sorcery, and the similarities to. Turns out, they had a lot in common. As he walked, he noticed that for the first time, he was being acknowledged by everyone rather being shunned. He looked at Silver, stunned. He smiled.

"I heard the story of what you did with the R.I.N. It's amazing. You have turned everything around, round here. People are so grateful." He grinned. Close the main exit, there all the transport ships were located, in the Loading Bay, Sukko suddenly and inexplicitly turned and stared behind him. That weird feeling was back again, of the presence in the Restoration, but again, nothing to be seen. Just the people doing their jobs.

Silver stared.

"Sukko?" He questioned. He looked back at Silver. He sighed.

"Sorry." He answered but before he could say anything, he heard his name being called, which pushed it out of his mind. Two people were running towards him.

"Sukko!" Someone said.

"Sukko!" Said another.

Suddenly Sukko found himself being immediately hugged by two people of who he'd become extremely fond. Tangle and Jewel. Jewel quickly let go of him, but Tangle didn't. Sukko could feel her breathing into his chest.

"I thought you weren't going to make it." She sobbed, in somewhat of a muffled voice. Sukko grinned, and rolled his eyes.

"Oh, please!" He mocked. "Look at whom I'm related to." He giggled. Several people stared. He sounded exactly like Sonic. It was uncanny. Sukko did not have an attitude. He was quiet and by comparison to his brother, very reserved by nature. He liked to watch people and didn't really get involved. The complete opposite of Sonic. Hence his incredible skill at Intelligence. As for sounding like Sonic, it was completely faked, after all, he knew him better then anyone. Tangle hugged him just for being the way he was and it made him go slowly red, rekindling his love for her. It was not going to be shaken off, not this time. She finally looked up.

"Where are you going?" She asked. Sukko was about to answer but Silver cut across him. He sighed. This happened to him a lot, this was completely down to his quiet nature. If he was bothered he could have intervened, but he rarely ever did. He let Silver speak.

"Flying Lessons!" He said excited. But Tangle frowned.

"But he can already fly." Indicating Sukko. Sukko rolled his eyes again.

"Hover!" He sighed. "But Sonic thinks I have more in me then that." He said, not convinced. "You?" He added. Tangle herself sighed.

"I'm off the Sunset City with the next group. Jewel is holding the fort here." She said. That made sense as Jewel was in charge of the Restoration HQ. She piped up.

"You don't have long to work this out. The last transport to Sunset City leaves at dawn." She said, and moves off, taking Tangle with her, bundling her on a transport which Sukko watches leave, preying she'd be alright. Then he growled. Half a day. That how long Sonic had given him to work this out. Absolutely typical. No time to linger, time to get moving.

Silver's teaching techniques left much to be desired, but he did his best. But they both found out just how different Psychokinesis and Chaos Sorcery really were, despite them looking very similar. But after several hours, however, Sukko hadn't achieved anything beyond what he could already do. He was frustrated and tired from the drain. His anger was getting the better of him. Silver backed off. He knew better then to mess with an angry Blue Hedgehog, from his experience with Sonic. Sukko saw this and sighed.

He looked out of the Restoration to the last transport ship. Dawn was lifting on the horizon. Sukko was angry because he knew Sonic was right. Sukko sighed and look through his memories. Sonic didn't remember their parents, he was too small, and Sukko himself only had vague recollections. He remembered what his parents look like and a single sentence said specificity to him by his mother, the last time he saw her.

'Look to the stars, Sukko, and let go!'

All his life he never understood it, and as he walked out into the morning air, the last transport was waiting for him. He looked at them, including Silver.

"Go!" He said, and as the clear morning air filled his lungs, something happened to him, which meant he finally understood his mother's words. His reserved nature meant that he'd been a stickler for the rules, especially in Chaos Sorcery. If he was told it was impossible then he believed it and never challenged it. Sonic, however, challenged everything, which used to irritate him horrendously. Was now the time to truly let go, to ascend, to truly become a Hero in own right, rather then as Sonic's backup? But who was Sonic the Hedgehog. Did he even exist? He was the symbol that gave the people of Mobius hope. The combination of both of them. Sonikku and Sukko. Was now the time to make that symbol even greater and more powerful. Someone for everyone to follow. Greater then the both of them. To sore in the sky. To look to the stars.

Sonic believed in him, otherwise he wouldn't have sent him down this path. Time to trust his brother believes, and his own. Suddenly he hears his name being called. The last transport was taking off. Silver, Tails and Amy were on board. Sunset City was on the other side of the planet to the Restoration, Sukko would never make it there in time for the battle without Super-Speed. But Sukko turned them down.

"Go." He smirked. "I'll catchup." He added, and as he watched the transport leave, he was finally alone. He thought again. Hope. From what he knew, hope was the belief in the potential of every person on Mobius to be a force for good. That was what the twins could bring the people of Mobius. Sonic had done his part. Time for Sukko to step up. The people hadn't risen up against Eggman because they simply didn't believe that they could win, and with Sonic alone, properly not. But he wasn't alone. With two of them, that would change everything. He was Sonic's twin. His identical. His brother, and now his equal.

To cast Magic, or use Chaos Sorcery took a huge amount of concentration, more so then any other Chaos Power. It was why the drain was so devastating. That level of stress took it's toll on the mind and body. Now he had cast with his heart, not his head. He took a deep breath, he'd never done that before.

He felt the luminescent vapour of bright blue hue swirled all around him. For the first time ever, it just happened. He didn't will it, and finally he realised that that was the point.

He looked up. To the stars.

Suddenly, he exploded upwards with speed and power that completely took Sukko by storm. Several hundred feet into the air in a matter of seconds and before he could stabilise himself, he travelled some distance and crash landed right in front of last transport. It stopped next to him. Tails, Amy and Silver were seriously worried about him. It was an extremely nasty crash. But Sukko was alright, and as he heard a Sonic Boom in the distance, heading his way, he finally knew he was indeed built for this. He got to his feet. Amy squealed.

"Open the doors." She ordered. But Tails cut across her, looking out of the window, eyes set on Sukko.

"No!" He spat. Amy and Silver were confused. Tails continued. "I've seen that look before. On Sonic, right before he did his first Super Transformation, just after we met." He paused. The others stared. Tails looked at them. He smiled. "He's finally beginning to believe." He said. They looked back at Sukko.

"Come on!" They pleaded. Sorcerer or not, the Resistance needed as many people they get and the more powerful the better.

They all watched him carefully. Sukko stood there, his eyes closed. He'd just travelled the fastest in his life, and it was the most thrilling thing ever. But he had to calm down, completely empty his mind. Let his heart do the flying. He felt the luminescent vapour of bright blue hue swirled all around him again. He knelt down and allowed the vapour to pick up speed around him, creating a tornado of wind. He opened his eyes and looked skyward.

To the stars.

Boom!

Sukko took off from the ground with such force that it shook it. Straight up vertically Sukko flew. One hundred miles an hour, two hundred. He was beginnings to panic, he was struggling to stabilise the flight. He was going to fall. In fact, he did begin to fall, again. Suddenly he heard something.

{Sukko. Don't think about it. Just do it!} He called. Sonic was obviously following him on the ground. His words bounced around Sukko's head. He frowned.

Just do it.

He put is hand behind and without even thinking, push the Magic through them. Huge quantities of it. This immediately stabilised him and Sukko pulled himself out of his death dive.

Sonic cheered. Upon hearing his brother's praise down the Psychic Link, gave Sukko the confidence to push further.

Three hundred miles an hour, four hundred. The speed was incredible, and Sukko was beginning to properly understand him now, his brother.

Five hundred miles an hour, Six hundred.

Despite the incredible speed, he was more a capable of mentally kept with his surroundings, with absolute ease. Sukko gritted his teeth. More!

Seven hundred.

Then he felt it. The residence. It pushed back against him like an invisible wall. No, this was not going to defeat him. They were equal. He now had the speed. If Sonic could do it, so could he.

Seven hundred and fifty.

Sukko screamed. His body was been twisted and flexed by the acceleration forces in ways he was not used to. Also he saw something begin to swirl around as he flew through the air. He pushed even harder, this was not going to beat him.

Then finally he did it.

Ka-boom!

He broke the Sound Barrier. A Sonic Boom. The noise was deafening, but not as loud as expected, and the vapour cone appeared all around him. The visible cloud of condensed water that forms around an object moving at high speed through moist air. But Sukko had a problem, the backlash had completely knocked off balance, and was loosing control.

A second Sonic Boom announced the arrival of the expert.

{Sukko, twist out of it, to get through the backlash.} He called. Sukko didn't argue and did exactly as he was asked. It worked. Within seconds, he was stable again and now travelling in excess of Mach One. So to was Sonic beneath him. Sukko took a deep breath and calmed himself again, out of his panic. He sighed.

{Thank you.} He stammered. Sonic smirked, giggling down the Psychic Link.

{I told you could do it.} He said, incredibly proudly. Then he turned the corner to head towards Sunset City. He smiled. {Care to join me?} He asked. Sukko smirked. For the first time in his life, he could keep up with Sonic, and was absolutely thrilled to. Now he could fly. Not just fly. He had Super-Flight. A beautiful combination of his father's Super-Speed and Chaos Sorcery. Entirely unique to him. Just like Sonic's ability to Teleport and Chaos Control. He looked down at his bother below him and smiled.

{Sure.} He grinned and together they sped towards the city.
