Bulma jumped in the air with glee. "You got another transformation! Yeah, you must be invincible now! Go on, beat him back from where he came!"
Vegeta coughed, getting his wife's notice. He motioned his hands towards his body, flaring red. "If you would notice, I've achieved the level of the gods as well!"
She hesitated for a second, then gave a warm smile to try to alleviate the situation. "I know that, I was just thinking that Blue was more powerful and could beat this guy, no sweat!"
Vegeta blushed, more out of embarrassment than anything else. "A-Are you implying that I couldn't?"
"You know that's not what I meant. I'm just saying a new transformation means a better chance we get out of this mess alive."
Vegeta scowled, still blushing as he tried to simulate Kakarot's method.
Breathe in. Exhale.
He still shone red. He tried again.
Breathe in. Exhale.
Still red.
Bulma, now noticing what was going on, placed her shoulder on her husband. He gave a brief glance to see her smile.
Once more.
Breathe in.
Exhale.
Blue.
"Good job, Vegeta," Bulma whispered, giving him a kiss on the cheek, resulting in another blush from the proud prince. Goku being able to see this whole thing from afar had his smile grow wider. Vegeta then flew to his side.
Gohan smiled. Two Super Saiyan Blues against Cold. There was no way they would lose now. Just as a precaution, he shouted up to the duo. "Just so you know, he's drunk right now! That's been making him harder to read as a whole, so watch out for that!" Satisfied now, he gave into the pain, lying on the ground unconscious. Bulma kneeling to his chest. She felt a heartbeat and gave a thumbs up to the duo, indicating his relative safety.
"Drunk? He really came to the planet drunk?" Vegeta said, more to himself than anything.
"As Gohan said, it's dangerous," Goku noted, turning to face the rubble Cold was buried under. "He must have drank beforehand for this very reason."
The Saiyan Prince then thought back to the several times he had been drunk before, glancing down at Bulma as he did so. "It's possible he had other reasons," Vegeta responded.
"Really? Cuz I always thought it was just a strong technique."
Vegeta was about to explain the basics of what being drunk actually meant when the two heard a crash off in the distance. They looked forward and saw Cold emerging from his temporary rocky prison and began floating towards the duo, staggering. "So, who's fighting first?" Goku said. Vegeta thought, looking at the emperor who let out a burp as he continued lumbering forwards.
"Be my guest. He'd hardly be worth my time as is." Even taking into account Cold's erratic movements courtesy of being drunk, his blows would be nothing to the power of a Super Saiyan Blue. Both warriors knew this.
"Thanks!" Goku exclaimed, energy flowing throughout his body. "I'll try to make it quick."
As the Saiyan rushed towards Cold, the emperor put one of his hands out in a manner that said "stop". Understanding the social cue, Goku hesitantly halted his movement a few feet away from his opponent, at least willing to hear the man out. He had to wait as Cold felt the need to breathe heavily for quite a number of seconds. After a while, the man had finally recollected himself. "Exchuuse me, sir, but it's very rude for you to hit someone before havin' a pre fight greetin','" the king stammered, pointing one of his fingers out at Goku. One of his eyes - the one Goku kicked in - was bulging slightly.
"Uhm, I know that," Goku said, rubbing the back of his head for a moment before pointing back at Cold. "You tried to hit me first though!"
The emperor threw both his hands up in the air. "Well how was I supposed to stop when you came outta nowhere! That, monkey man, was a very rude introduction indeed."
"I guess we haven't actually met, have we?" Goku reflected contemplatively. "Okay, my name is Goku and you're..."
Cold cut the Saiyan off with an overly dramatic bow, his back bent so low that Goku very easily thought it could snap. "The emperor of thuh universe, King Cold, at your service."
"At my service? Am I your master now or…?"
The king paused. He stood with his hand pointed down for a few seconds and his mouth agape, drooling ever so slightly. Was he? Maybe? No, this guy wasn't purple or pink. He couldn't be. "Naw, naw, that's a figure of speech."
"Ah, okay."
An awkward silence.
"So are we fighting now or-"
"Lemme tell ya, I thought you and your pal were gonna be gold," Cold continued. "That other guy was gold, ya know. Instead I got a red fish and a blue fish! A one fish and a two fish!" He pointed to the water below. "I saw some fishies down there too ya know. I think one was flirtin' with me."
At this point, Goku couldn't help but let out a small smirk. He turned to face Vegeta and shouted, "Does being drunk make you act all silly?"
"That's a general way you can put it, yes."
As Goku looked back, he saw Cold's face now bore a big frown. "I was thinking this was going to be all cool."
"What do you mean? Conquering Earth? Killing my friends? Killing Krilli-" The blue was dimming. Thankfully, the Saiyan caught himself and took another deep breath, alleviating his flow of ki. "What do you mean?"
"It's none of that, it's just I thought you'd be gold. Cuz I can do that too."
Goku tensed up, his hair shifting to red for a brief moment before reigniting to blue. After all, he should have expected some trick up his sleeve. Many villains he faced before did as such. However, for some reason he didn't consider it would happen again. "A transformation, yeah?"
Cold nodded somberly. "Yeah...but now it won't be dramatic an' the like, ya know."
"It doesn't have-"
"Foolish Saiyan!" Cold interrupted again, whether out of spite or simply lucidity being unclear. "You thought that I woulda lost to you after those golden punches, but that isn't so! I've been savin' a special somethin' to show ya! Somethin' that'll blow your mind like Mr. Nectarine Wine!"
He began to charge. Water erupted from below, fully surrounding the emperor within a ball, leaving only his silhouette. A lightning bolt from a conveniently formed storm cloud struck the bubble, allowing for electricity to ripple throughout the liquid. The crackling of the lightning was augmented with the crackling of ice, slowly forming from top to bottom, solidifying the ball and the creature inside.
Crack.
Crack.
Crack.
The ice burst, the debris flying in multiple directions. All that remained in the display was Cold, now shimmering a radiant gold, augmented by purple on his face, shoulders, chest and the like. He puffed up his chest, raising his head towards his foe. "I am…" he proclaimed alongside a burp, "Gold'n Cold."
As expected, Goku could sense a massive spike in energy. A spike that no doubt brought him up to the Saiyan's godhood; no, likely surpassed it. Goku brought one arm clenched to his side while the other was brought up to the level of his face, taking a battle stance. To fully grasp a person's power required more than merely sensing their ki. At least, that's what he always told himself.
Cold didn't require something as useless as a battle pose. He merely took one last burp before stumbling in for a punch. Seeing this coming, Goku parried the blow with one of his arms, deflecting it and readied a counterattack - a punch in the gut. He was about to strike before noticing that Cold was going along with the momentum, the stumble shifting into a headbutt. It was much too close for Goku to follow through.
Hastily, the Saiyan twisted the hand positioned for a gut punch upwards towards the king's jaw instead and fired a blast of ki from it. Hopefully it would throw off his opponent from continuing his attack or at the very least redirect him. This attack had no such luck, merely resulting in a puff of smoke followed by a strike between heads. Cold's easily won out, flinging the warrior back a few feet before catching himself. A head on fight, as it were, was certainly not going to gain Goku any ground.
Maintaining his distance away from the emperor, he began throwing out ki blasts, leaving some hanging in the air and others to simply blow up to create a smokescreen cover. Hovering around the field of smoke, Goku waited for more information. If Cold flew straight at him, he knew his opponent had developed the ability to sense ki. If not, he could continue to use that to his advantage. He truly hoped for the latter. A moment passed before a purple blast of energy shot from the smokescreen. Nowhere near Goku. Good. Now he just had to take full advantage of it.
As such, the Saiyan made a beeline towards the ocean to hide in wait for an attack. Dipping into the water, he cupped his palms as he focused his energy on Cold, unable to see his target directly through the harsh waters. A point blank blast ought to do some damage.
After a few moments, Goku sensed Cold's ki in many directions at once. One of the ki signatures he felt was heading straight towards him. Had Cold been bluffing that disability? It was certainly possible. Not wanting to risk it if that was the case, the Saiyan prematurely fired the Kamehameha he had been building. As it blasted off, light purple residues of ki slid off the side of the blast, but nothing more. The attack continued forwards as Goku looked up at the ball of smoke and found the answer to his question - similar flashes of energy emitted from the area, up down and all around.
Cold was merely firing indiscriminately. Pure dumb luck. Goku's aura flickered as he hoped that the Kamehameha was a straight shot. Otherwise, it wouldn't hit its true mark, and more dangerously, direct the emperor right towards him.
A large explosion of blue indicated that at the very least the Saiyan had hit his target. Now he was waiting for the smoke to clear to see just how much damage he dealt. As it did, Goku could make out Cold's silhouette which slowly shifted towards his body. His chest was still puffed up, with only bits of dust being visible and little drops of blood from his body. No real damage. It was enough to have Goku worrying just a little bit more before thinking. It wasn't a major surprise since he hadn't hit him at full strength nor head on. If he could just do that…
"Simple parlor tricks won't affect me, monkey man!" the king exclaimed, beginning to throw a barrage of ki blasts at his adversary. Unfortunately for him, being drunk and having one of his eyes beaten had heavily thrown off his hand eye coordination, leaving his aim to be quite imprecise. Due to this, Goku was able to dodge them with ease, charging up yet another Kamehameha in the meantime.
"Ka...me…" His ki was entirely focused on Cold.
"ha...me…" This one had to work.
"h-"
Right before he was about to teleport behind the emperor, out of the corner of his eye he saw a massive ki of yellow a few dozen feet away from his target. After squinting, Goku realized that it was a Final Flash, nearly complete. Thank Kami he noticed that before teleporting. An unintended double edged sword had been avoided and became a double pronged effort.
"Final!"
"Ha!"
Cold stopped firing and looked at the Final Flash behind him, hearing Vegeta's shout. He then turned his attention back to Goku, unexpectedly met with a Kamehameha right in front of him.
"Oh."
The two beams collided, with Cold at the epicenter. They crackled against each other, with only a few inches of leeway being given between the attacks. Each warrior hung their respective blasts in this position for quite a while in order to deal the most damage to the king. Finally, the collided blasts exploded, creating an even bigger smokescreen.
The two Saiyans flew to face the results of their efforts, one up and one down, meeting in the middle. "So much for taking turns, yeah?" Goku noted, eyes still focused on the veil.
"You had your chance and made little headway. Being hit by a few more of those ki blasts would have put you out of the fight anyways. I was merely waiting for you to give out so I could get my turn as soon as possible."
"And ya got impatient, I guess," he said with a chuckle. He turned to Vegeta and smiled. "Thanks for the help."
The prince let out a prideful 'hmpf', waiting for the smoke to clear. As it was doing so Cold floated out of the area, waving one of his hands like a fan and coughing into another one. Aside from his previously given eye injury, his body only featured a few bruises and cuts, admittedly deeper than any of the ones from before. However, it was still relatively minimal. "I would like you to keep the smoke to a minimum," Cold ordered between coughs. "It's bad for the lungs."
Goku and Vegeta, on the other hand, fell out of Blue to God. "Are you serious? Our strongest attacks and that's it? What kind of training did he even do?" Vegeta stammered.
Goku stood motionless for a moment before taking a breath and powering up back into Blue. "We still have fusion."
"Fusion?" Vegeta repeated hesitantly.
"The Metamoran fusion isn't permanent and it's the only way for us to stand a chance," Goku continued, knowing exactly what his ally's concerns were. "We'd only have one perfect shot to do it, though."
Vegeta paused before shimmering back into Blue. "We'll do the dance."
"Right." Goku positioned his hands, fingers outstretched, towards his eyes. "Solar Flare!"
A flash of bright light appeared, stopping Cold in his tracks and leading to him holding his eyes. This was doubly effective with the blurred vision the king had already possessed. "Gah!" he blurted, recoiling in pain.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, the two Saiyans began flying over to a cliffside, a ways away from Bulma and Gohan.
"So, for the first part, you have to make sure to stretch your arms all the way out and your knees bent... " Goku explained mid-flight, mimicking the motions he was describing.
"I've seen the children do the dance before. It's incredibly simple."
"I'm serious about this. If we slip up even a little, we won't be able to do it again for at least an hour and a half". Goku turned slightly to the king, who was rapidly blinking to try to regain his vision. "And I don't think we have that sort of time."
Vegeta pondered on this for a moment. "Fine, give one more quick demonstration," he said, right as he landed on the piece of land.
As Goku began to explain how to do the dance, Cold's sight was recovering, slowly but surely. He looked around hastily, seeing no blue blurs in his sight. Not yet anyways. The emperor began slowly turning, giving his weary eyes more time to assess his surroundings. Before he even turned 5 degrees, however, he saw a very tiny puff of smoke on his shoulder. He turned in the direction the smoke was to find who interrupted his search.
With one finger outstretched, ki building within, Tien stood. He was panting heavily, but he still stood to face this threat. "Dodon Ray!" Once again, he fired and again, adding another puff of smoke on Cold's golden physique.
The emperor was quite annoyed by this. The human had not heeded the royal decree of smoke being banned from this duel (despite being at least a mile in the air, the emperor felt that this human should have heard the order nonetheless). Learning from his previous mistake, instead of unleashing a barrage of ki, Cold waved his arm towards the nuisance, creating a gust of air and flinging it away.
Goku, on the other hand, had just finished his explanation of how to correctly dance. "You got it?"
"Y-Yes," Vegeta said, blushing a little bit.
"Also, we need to match our ki's exactly, so no matter what, keep stayin' in Blue."
Vegeta nodded as he went into position. Cold was continuing his turn, nearly facing the Saiyans.
"Fu-"
As the emperor faced the Saiyans, he saw a man of green fly up from below the cliff's edge in front of them. Piccolo!
"sion-"
Piccolo quickly swerved to face Goku and Vegeta, his arms fully outstretched. It was then Goku saw a smile. A devilish smile. A smile that could only be cultivated either through copious amounts of bloodshed...or that was thoroughly trained with a mirror.
"Change!"
"Ha!"
A flash of light came, as Cold once again questioned why it was always his eyes that faced the brunt of this planet's attacks.
