Chapter 3:Rest

Upon returning to the waking world Mari was relieved to feel somewhat normal and not on the brink of death any long. The day had been long, so very terribly long and exhausting that Mariko could barely get any work done. No that wasn't quite true she did manage to get work done, only it was in the form of prostrating herself over the porcelain throne as she emptied out the contents of her stomach.

From early morning to late afternoon the young woman had been nauseous all day.

"Thank god I'm finally normal." Mari mutters as she slowly shifts upwards to lean against the headboard of the bed. Her body felt weak, her limbs like limp noodles but otherwise she felt good, no longer was there a sick feeling rolling through her stomach like an unsteady ship on turbulent waves. For that she was eternally grateful because quite honestly Mari was unsure if she could go through another dizzying wave of sickness.

I'd rather fight Reborn then go through that Mari thinks as she scraps her hand over her eyes. Thank god for Kyoko, Haru, and Chrome for they had been the real MVPS as they tended to her throughout the day. The girls had made sure she was comfortable. Rubbing her back and ensuring her hair stayed well out of her face whenever Mari sprinted full force to the bathroom to empty out her guts.

Chrome had made her a light soup to sip at while Kyoko and Haru kindly distracted her from her miserable state of existence by playing terrible rom coms on the tv. Despite the heartfelt gesture Mari had been too exhausted to make fun of the movies in question.

Releasing a yawn Mari drops her hand down onto the mattress as she looks about she notices the girls are gone. The tv that was once hummed softly was now switched off, the world around Mari was shrouded in comforting darkness, the only light source that could be identified was coming from the bathroom. Soft billows of steam escaped through the door that was left ajar. A soft flutter of excitement caresses over Mari as she climbs slowly out of bed. Tsuna was home.

She had missed him terribly. Truth be told Mari wished he hadn't had to leave and had stayed by her side but she knew he couldn't. I hope the meeting went well, I feel super bad I couldn't attend. Having been unable to help in her duties had bothered her a lot despite Tsuna reassuring her that it was fine, she was due for a break anyway.

As she takes a shaky step towards the bathroom the door suddenly opens wider revealing her man. The light of the bathroom blankets the room in a soft glow as Tsuna steps out wearing nothing but sweatpants. His chest is bare except for a few beads of water that trickle down his toned muscular form. Heat floods Mari's face instantly. Even though they were husband and wife and had been together since middle school she still couldn't help but still feel flustered around him. He was so handsome. All his training with Reborn through the years had paid off well.

Very very well Mari thinks her face flushing a deeper crimson. Surely she was akin to a ripe tomato.

Pulling his head out from under the fluffy white towel Tsuna frowns when he sees Mariko out of bed. Warm caramel eyes are filled to the brim with concern as he takes in her pale flushed features, he also doesn't miss the soft tremble of her body as she struggles to maintain her balance. Ever the stubborn soul.

"Mari you should be in bed." Tsuna chides gently as he tosses the towel into a nearby hamper.

"Not without you." Mari retorted before her eyes widened like a deer in headlights. "Oh…..Oh no not like that...I'm much too tired tonight and….." And now she was rambling, digging herself ever deeper into this hole.

Tsuna couldn't help but laugh at her frazzled state.

Sauntering over he wraps his arms around her gently. Placing a kiss on her forehead Mari's rambling halts altogether as her head comes to rest against his chest instantly. Calloused hands dance through toffee colored locks before trickling down to rub her back soothingly. Mari releases a content purr as if she was a happy kitten finally getting attention. With another kiss to her head Tsuna helps her back into bed before handing over a cup of tea she hadn't realized was on the side table.

Smiling in thanks, Mari takes several sips before leaning back amongst the pillows. The warm ginger tea felt nice against her throat and even better in her belly. "How did the meeting go?"

"It went well. I can say for certain that they won't be bothering us again."

"Oh? How so." Mari pressed nudging Tsuna lightly.

"Hyper intuition."

"I missed a fight didn't I?"

The lack of response from the brunette had Mari whining dramatically. "No fair!"

Releasing a sigh Tsuna takes the tea cup before she's liable to spill it on the sheets. "You needed to rest. There will be plenty of other fights later, Mari." Tsuna reassures as he pulls her into his arms. God knows their life had no shortage of fighting.

Cuddling up against his chest Mari releases a heavy sigh. "I know."

Shaking his head in amusement, his fingers card through her hair gently. The concern he felt for her was still rooted deep within him. "How do you feel?" His eyes flicker over her checking her features closely as a gentle hand rubs against her cheek feeling for a fever.

Mari gently brushes his hand away. "I'm alright. I feel a lot better than earlier, just a little shaky but I'll be right as rain come the marrow." Smiling brightly up at her beloved Mari places a chaste kiss to his lips before resting her head once more against his chest. Tsuna can't help but smile at her endearing actions. Wrapping a blanket around the two of them gentle fingers rub soothing circles into her back, the silence wraps around them both comforting them. Chuckling Tsuna smiles when he hears the soft quiet breathing of his butterfly as she drifts off into slumber.

He hoped she would be well come the morning but even so something was nudging at his intuition, gently poking and prodding demanding his attention. Something he couldn't quite put his finger on.

Well whatever it may be he prayed it wasn't something detrimental.
