Chapter 2: Possible candidate
Merlin had returned to his library. Raven watched from behind. Merlin's hands searched the bookcases. Passed the ancient spells of varying natures of magic. He paused over the only book that was about demonology. He pulled the book a crank cracked through the room. The door swung open on its hinges.
"How many secret rooms do you have?" Raven raised a brow under her hood.
"More than my normal rooms. You can't be too safe." The record room was revealed, withtiny Imps working at their desks. There with their feet chained to their oak desks. Each desk had a large book and a crystal orb the demons would look inro. Binders and folders populated rotating bookshelves. Merlin snapped his fingers.
"Find me the scrolls on Excalibur. Raven looked across the bookcases that appeared to tower into the sky. The ceiling in the records room was non-existent. It appeared to be ever extending past the sight of a any eye enhanced or not.
A chest fell Infront of Merlin with a loud crash.
"Thank you." He called to an unknown entity. Merlin lifted the briefcase sized chest. Merlin slammed it on the desk, down on the imp's work. Raven could understand chthonic. The imp swearing at Merlin and Merlin's words were even worse. Merlin was only tolerable in short bounds. Merlin slapped the imp on the back of the head. When the swearing stopped Raven could make out Merlin's words.
"That's your fault for serving Belial now, isn't it?"
"You caused Belial's death."
"I didn't cause it. Etrigan killed daddy dearest. I just." Merlin's voice went lower. "I just bound my half-brother to a mortal vessel." His finger jerked into the Imp's face. "If you like father so much, back to hell with you." All the chairs the imps sat in had markings below them. Merlin bit into his hand, drawing blood. The imp let out a cry and started to yank at his chains. Merlin's blood dripped into the rune below the imp. A flaming portal opened revealing Trigon's lair. The imp fell through, it dangled between worlds by the chains connecting the demon to its desk.
"Merlin," Raven opened the chest to look at the collections of scrolls. "I'm sure being strict with demons is important. I would prefer if we focussed on the more pressing issue." Merlin grabbed onto the chain. He gave the metal links a yank. The demon was pulled back into the mortal realm. The portal sealed behind the floor returning to its dark brick.
"I want no mention of Etrigan, Or Belial. We make mistakes, we move on. Are we clear?"
Raven un-furled the scroll. The imp's gaze was captured by Merlin. They all agreed with him.
"This isn't right." The scroll was blank. That much was true. Raven grabbed the others it was just information on how to keep it and the blade's power. Merlin looked towards the blank scroll
"No, it's right."
"No one can wield it not even Arthur." Merlin closed the scroll. He stared to his feet at his feet.
"It is not my place to tell you. Just know, Arthur is not a suspect. He hasn't wielded Excalibur for a long, long time."
"Then who? Who could have taken the sword?" Raven threw the scroll back into the chest. She sat on the desk. She was starting to feel the pull. She took a deep breath held it for a few seconds and repeated. Merlin tried to read the scrolls search for information.
"Well aside from Excalibur walking off. It would need to be someone unheard of. Yet there are no records of any time travel to this year. It can't be a human."
"Is it possible if they got into the castle, they could have found your records."
"To do and alter they would-" Merlin's hands clenched into fists. "I need to do more investigating on my own."
"Merlin, this is Excalibur. We need to inform the Justice league Dark, your knights."
"They are possible suspects. Raven, go back. Any Homo-magi cannot be trusted, none that have had contact with me."
"Merlin, Excalibur is a danger in the wrong hands."
"Begone!" Merlin waved his hand. Raven was pulled by an invisible force. The castle forced her out. Her shoes forced to skid backwards through the corridors, halls and out of the castle.
The giant doors slammed shut in front of Raven. Her hand banged on the door.
"Merlin don't be an idiot!" No matter how hard Raven pushed it made no difference, the doors wouldn't budge. She tried to teleport in, although that only lead to her breathing in the smoke that obstructed her teleportation. She coughed and waved it away. Raven couldn't get in with magic alone. Her eye twitched. Raven vanished, this time successfully returning home.
Beast boy was reading an old comic on his bed still in his pyjamas He sat up straight after hearing the familiar puff and smell of sulphur diffused through the room. Raven stood in the middle of her room. Beast boy slowly crawled under the covers of their bed. Raven's slouch and hunched over shoulders told him all he needed to know. He called from under the covers
"How was Camelot babe?"
"Merlin is an idiot. Excalibur is missing. Where is Lance?"
"Lance is," Beast boy tapped his index fingers together. "Wait Excalibur's real what's it like."
"I can't tell you it's missing?"
"You mean you've never seen it."
"No Garth, it's missing."
"Oh…bummer."
"Bummer…One of the greatest weapons of all time is missing and bummer?" Raven's eyes started to turn red, under her hood. Her voice distorted, gaining more demonic qualities. Beastboy crawled out of bed and wrapped his arms around Raven. He held her tight.
"It may be gone. I know you're gonna' find it again Rae." Raven embraced Beast boy. Her voice returned to normal. She moved towards the door.
"I'm going to talk to Dick. See if He can call Lance." Beast boy gave one final wave. No way he was going to tell her the news.
The medical wing of Titan's tower was a sterile white with mint green walls. It was lined with hospital beds against the walls, enough for each of the original Titan's. Lance lay on one of those beds, multiple tubes in his arm as the machines around him beeped. His heart rate was at least stable. Outside of the camera's view behind the bed Alex lightly snored with his back against the wall, he didn't want to sleep on a bed, so he opted for a stool. He opened his eyes with a small groan. He rubbed his eyes his blurry vision returned to normal. Last night wasn't a dream. Alex's eyes locked onto Lance for a sign of moment. There was an occasional beep from the Holter monitor. Lance was alive. Knowing that Alex dragged his seat over to the window. Located in the middle of the giant T the medical wing had a view of San-Francisco. Alex admired the view of the sun rising above the city's treetops. He placed his head against the glass window. He checked his phone, a few messages from mom. No one would believe the story of a giant shadow knight attacking him. He had to alleviate her concerns. He messaged back that he was ok and still at a friend's house. It wasn't totally a lie. He wasn't sure if Lance had a room here or not. The sun began to move higher into the sky as time passed.
Nightwing sat staring towards the camera. Raven stood behind him her arms folded.
"you're telling me. That He now holds the mark of Avalon?"
"Yeah." Nightwing zoomed in on Alex's hand to show the mark to Raven. "He wouldn't leave Lance's side."
"I'm talking to him." Raven placed her hand on the door. She was stopped by Nightwing. He grabbed her shoulder.
"Don't. I've been where he is. No offence, I don't think you're the right person?"
"Well who is?"
"I. Well I don't know."
"If you don't talk to him I will." Raven opened the door and vanished into the shadows. Nightwing's arm flopped down to his side. He turned back to look at Alex. Nightwing wasn't a billionaire with too much free time thankfully. He got the feeling Bruce was more used to this stuff. The idea of recruiting Alex like this left a bad taste in his mouth. Raven's information though and Lance's incapacitation, they needed the next host.
Alextowards. Nightwing as the masked man walked through the door.
"How are you feeling?"
"Crappy."
"Yeah, I did too. Remember much of last night?"
"No." A mix of alcohol and adrenaline led to a large gap in memory for Alex's night. He woke up with his friend's tattoo. He scratched at it. That was real too. Mom was going to kill him.
"Yeah, we expect Knight to make a recovery?"
"Knight?"
"Your friend."
"He had a code name and everything." Alex banged his head against the window. Nightwing had to be careful. Last thing he needed to reveal were more of Lance's secrets.
"He did and well. He let you come with us. We keep our identities secret to keep our friends safe." Alex pointed to the claw marks ripped down his jacket. His back bandaged up. Nightwing could be doing better. Still, this wasn't an issue he could order. "In theory. He wanted to give you a chance. A chance to see the real him, help out."
"Help? I don't do magic. I don't shapeshift. I don't even want to help. I just want to go home, get my friend in a proper hospital."
"Knight is,-"
"His name is Lance."
"Lance has the best chance of recovery here. We won't stop you if you want to leave though." Alex stood up. He walked towards the door. His hand was on the handle, and he paused. He looked back to Lance. Truth was this stuff looked better than most the stuff He had seen in a hospital. Like it was from a big budget medical drama. "Can I still see Lance?" Nightwing shook his head.
"Sorry. Only Titans are allowed in the tower."
"Can I still call him."
"If he wakes up." Nightwing followed Alex failed to open the door. Nightwing placed his hand on the handle. The Tower's systems recognized who it was, the door unlocked. "Are you sure?"
"Look I had a lot of fun seeing your hospital. I got parents, a job. Just look after Lance." The main hall was a desolate kitchen with a block for the elevator in the middle. Nightwing called it. Still trying to convince Alex.
"Lance must have saw great things in you. To trust you with his mark"
"Yeah, so did everyone in pre-school. Only because I could write my b and d the right way." Doors opened and the two stepped inside. There were more buttons than floors in the elevator. Most went into the minus numbers. Nightwing pressed the button for the ground floor.
"I'm not on about being a gifted child. That thing. That mark on your hand it's what gave Lance his power."
"I'll make sure to give it back to Lance when he gets better than." Alex clenched his fist. He felt nothing in his hand. The fleeting thought was there. His hand had once grasped a blade. There was no sword there now. The elevator opened to the ground floor. The automatic doors slid apart only to allow Alex to exit. The island was a small field. Only approximately fifty metres wide and long. A flawless green field, a path guided Alex to the dock.
The 'dock' was just a wooden pier. Clearly getting on an off the island wasn't much of a concern. It creaked with every step Alex took and only had one dingy strapped to it, the type that only had an off-board motor. Transport to and from the island by sea wasn't a priority when three out of the original five Titans could fly.
"Are you trying to kill people who leave by boat?" Alex pressed. At most there was room for five people to sit in the dingy, It wasn't even a dingy it was an inflatable. The people would also need to sit practically hugging each other.
"Batman used this to not arouse suspicion." Nightwing sat down on the boat and turned the motor on. He zipped his jacket up so people wouldn't know it was him. He kept his mask on though. His identity still needed to be kept a secret. Unlike His other teammates, he could blend in without a mask.
"Oh, nothing says not-suspicious like a giant T in the middle of the ocean." Alex commented with the boat whirring away. He watched the Tower literally disappeared as he drove past the buoys. The tower's location was replaced with Jagged rocks. A creation by Cyborg. Able to keep ships away and people un-aware.
"Are you usually this sarcastic?"
"Pretty much."
The journey was almost silent, only with the smack of the inflatable against the water. A few birds and the rev of the engine. It was like being called into the principal's office. The silence between the two in a small space. Alex at least wanted a lecture; this is why radios were implemented into cars, to avoid the awkward silence.
"So, you got any idea when Lance will be out?"
"I'll have Cyborg keep his eye on Kni- I mean Lance." He looked up as they crossed under the golden gate bridge. He was able to run the boat next to a bank for Alex to step back. Great, just great. He had a long ass walk up a hill. He stepped off onto the bank.
"Will I get a message when he's awake?"
"Sorry. That stuff's classified. You'll get a call by him. It's not my place to say." Nightwing tossed Lance's beacon to Alex who failed to catch it. "In case, you want to rethink about joining us." Nightwing rode off and left Alex to walk back. At least he didn't have to walk across the bridge. Alex looked at the beacon. He pulled it back about to throw it into the water. He checked it though This was his lifeline to Lance. He grumbled and placed it in his pocket. Alex turned to head back home.
Nightwing returned to the main hub of the tower on the top floor. He looked over the city and sat down on the couch. His ears twitched as he heard footsteps. He spun around to see Raven to view Raven. She stood over him her hood up and face frowning.
"You let him go."
"If I told him to stay. You think he would have listened?"
"So? Knock him out, lock him in the basement."
"Raven, I can't force him to stay."
"You should have. Do you know what he is? He's Lance's replacement."
"He's not Lance. He won't act like him."
"You made a mistake Grayson." Raven's eyes under her hood could be seen. They turned red.
"If it helps, I'll send some trainees to look over him. It's his choice though."
"Do that. We can't lose him." Raven turned to walk into her room before Nightwing could reply. He sat back on the couch and placed his head in his hands. He exhaled and checked the Titan recruits. He selected two watchers for the night.
Alex placed his right hand in his pocket, concealing the mark on his hand. He walked into his home. A modest house on one of the hills. Mom and Dad could only afford a small house in this area. It didn't have many gun shots though.
"Oh Baby." Beth tilted her body back from the kitchen, to see her 'Baby boy'. Her hands covered in flower. She was in a floral dress. Her Sunday best, for the evening. She placed her hands on Alex's cheek and kissed his forehead. "How was it? Did you have fun? Your jacket. Alex what happened to you."
"It's fashion." Alex turned his back to a wall with a smirk and a shrug. "It's punk."
"Honey, Punk was cool when I was your age. Did you get into a fight?"
"Our boy fight? He'd be a lot more beat up if he was." Chris adjusted his thick rimmed spectacles and red tie around his neck.
"Chris." Beth folded her arms. She went back to the kitchen. "It's good our boy doesn't fight." Alex wiped the flour off his cheeks. His mother placed the cake in the oven. Chris threw his suit jacket on a couch in the living room. "So, what happened last night?"
"Like I said fashion." Alex turned to try and sneak up the stairs.
"Don't go anywhere." Chris sat in the living room. A tiny room in the front with a TV by the side of the window and the walls were covered in couches. Enough for four people, just. "We made a deal tonight remember. You party Friday. Saturday, you help your mother and I cook."
"Just give me a second."
Alex walked up to his room and grabbed a bandage. He wrapped it around his right hand. It would lead to more suspicions. He could explain bandages, not a dragon eating its own tail. He returned to help his mother bake. He placed the burgers on the frier and began to cut the onions. He was quick enough to quick enough to avoid tears. Then it him. A vision. The knife was replaced with a blue blade. Alex nicked into his hand. He hissed in pain and pulled it back.
"Lose your focus, Do I need to grab some more bandages?" Beth was the first to react.
"I'm fine mom, just." Alex sucked the blood from his thumb. "Just tired."
"Get some rest. Your father needs to learn to properly cook anyway." Beth had to lean against the counter to let Alex pass. Chris took over the cutting. The difference in the thickness of the onion rings were obvious as soon as Chris took over.
Alex sat on the bed in his room. It was basic. A poster on his bed behind him of a Green lantern it was peeling off the walls, with white edges. He sat on his bed and stared at the laptop on his desk, un-wrapping his hand to look at the mark. There was a crash downstairs. Chris had dropped the bag of flour. The couple laughed underneath Alex's room. He sat at his desk. The beacon on his desk. He left the beacon on his desk. He looked out his window to see the sun set over the Golden gate bridge. Out there was that giant T. He was too far away to see that giant rock formation. He started to research about the dragon eating tail. All he got was a few images and an ouroboros. The cycle of rebirth. He had to tell Lance. He thinned his eyes and began to scroll through definitions. There was a knock on his door. His mother peaked her head through his door.
"Hey your dad and I are going out. You want to join us?"
"I'm fine mom, you go have fun."
"Ok, remember; Make sure the doors are locked if you sleep before we get home. We'll be back before midnight call us if anything goes wrong." One last kiss on the forehead and a slam of the front door. Alex leaned back against his chair and let out a huff.
A green skinned woman watched Alex's mom and dad leave. Her black dress flowed in the wind on top of the building opposite Alex's home. The rim of her witch's hat hid her face from the world. She held a broom in her hand, although contrary to her aesthetic it was simply a modern brush. She reached inside her bag and grabbed a crystal ball. She pulled it out of her bag and stared into it. Like a telescope her view was magnified.
"I have eyes on the target."
"Rodger Wicked Witch of the west. What's he doing."
"It's Judy. I don't know he's on his computer."
"Hear anything?"
"I need to get my ball into his room." There was a chuckle over the radio. Judy slapped her forehead "You are literally five."
"I can get it in without and fuss. Though I'll need some shadows, can you turn the lights off?" Judy grabbed her wand out her bag. She waved it and pointed towards the lamp post. She concentrated on the light as it began to glow. A silhouette hid behind the growing glow.
"Judy," her communicator blared. "I know I got you mad but let's not get hasty, shall we?" The sound of glass shattering filled the street. All the lampposts in thirty metres broke.
A shadow moved through the streets. It rose from the ground infront of Judy and held it's hand out. She placed the orb in the shadows hand.
The shadow flew down the side of the building and up to Alex's. It threw the orb on the bed. Judy smirked able to move closer she placed her hand on her crystal ball and began to roll it. The orb in Alex's room moved to have a look around. Alex grabbed his phone and pulled up Lance's phone number. He tapped his finger on the floor witing for an answer, He only got ringing and then voicemail. He hung up; He waited a few minutes before calling again. Judy held her ear to her orb. Listening in on Alex's conversation. The voice mails he left.
"Hey buddy. So last night was a drag, right?" Alex hung up the phone. "Drag, no I can't say that." Again. "What happened, well the other night. It, it left me with some questions. Can't use that. I make it all about me."
The calls, The communicator on the side of his desk. Nightwing must have sent them to observe someone he was already tracking. They were on a mission. One of actual importance. Judy hopped up and down with a grin. They'd ace this. They may even get a few brownie points. If they managed to collect as much info as possible. That information though was that Alex had lost his mind.
Alex called Lance again. He taped his finger on the table. He wasn't counting how many attempts he made. He had been at his desk for most the night though. He needed some relief. He waited for the call to tap out. He moved his hand to unzip his pants.
"Gross." Judy looked away from her orb. She hoped what she was thinking wasn't going to happen. It didn't. Alex's hand slapped his cheek. He appeared to look up at nothing and screamed. Judy looked around the room with her orb. Nothing was there. Alex saw something completely different. A tall muscular man in medieval armour. The dragon ouroboros on his chest plate. His blonde beard and hair were expertly maintained, with blue eyes that stared down Alex.
"If you are to do that. Do not do it with my hand." The knight spoke with a thick English accent. Appearing from nowhere the answer was obvious to Alex.
"I've lost my mind." The knight reached his hand out to the communicator. Alex's marked palm wrapped itself around the beacon. He looked towards it. His thumb gently brushed over the button. He tossed it to the side.
"No, not a chance I don't want to just well you know."
"I do not know."
"The hero shtick isn't me. I want a normal life. One with parties, girls, not committing social suicide." Judy's brows furrowed she had a social life, a little. Ok maybe not. The knight pressed down on the beacon. The light blinked. Alex's hand worked on its own.
"You want to get rid of the mark? Get rid of me? Lance is your only chance at returning to a normal life. Once he's healthy, I'll move my mark to him. You can go back to sitting in your room and touching yourself."
"Gross I wasn't going to-"
"I know your thoughts boy."
Judy placed the broom between her legs and leaped off the rooftop. She glided to Alex's front door. She raised her hand to knock on the door. The shadow rose from the ground by Judy's side.
"We don't want to scare him." Judy saw that in the dark, a tall slim shadow might cause some fear.
"Coming from you?"
"Witches aren't scary." She gave the shadow a shove. Judy folded her arms and let out a huff. Alex looked through the peepholes and nigh instantly stepped back. Weirdos at the door. Judy looked through her orb and had it roll through the house. She knocked her broom against the door.
"You activated the beacon. We're here to take you." They could have worded it a little less like Alex was dying. Alex muttered to himself.
"Ok knight guy. I need you to help out here, do the stabby thing if they do anything funny." Alex reached into the kitchen. Judy's voice called through the door.
"We're not going to hurt you. You don't need the knife." Alex looked back she was still outside. He walked to the door, peeking before opening it completely. Judy put on her best smile. The shadow physically couldn't.
"Welcome to the Titans or well training." She offered Alex a hand. "We're here to take you to the tower." Alex peeked out the window to look for any form of transport. None.
"How do we get there?"
"We fly?" Judy waved her broom.
"Oh no, no, no, no we
Are staying low to the ground."
"If I do that people will see us." Judy pointed to the lights and the windows.
"What if we are just I dunno flew along the water took the boat path." The shadow sunk into the ground deciding to leave Judy with the job of transport. She turned and began to walk dragging her broom along the floor. Alex closed the windows, texted his parents and followed. He'd be staying at Lance's for a day.
"Flying's the safest way to travel."
"Yeah on a plane." Alex caught up. He walked beside Judy. "Not with a broom."
"It's magic. I wouldn't let you fall." Alex checked his phone on the journey. No calls from Lance yet. They crossed the streets, made their way down to the dock. A few lights were out by the water but it was enough to keep hidden. Judy placed the broom between her legs. "Broom's a safe way to travel. Just get on and hold on tight. Alex placed his hands on Judy's shoulders. "Now we need a running start." Judy sprinted along the pier. Flying by broom. Well magic seemed a better explanation than how superman flew. It didn't take long for Alex to notice Judy's magic was a little flawed. He knew as soon as they dove headfirst into the cold waters of the bay.
Judy emerged from the water. Alex quivered behind her.
"Sorry. I'm not used to many passengers."
"I think I'd prefer a boat." Alex spluttered between chattering teeth. Judy kept low the broom whizzed through the bay. The speed only made the night winds even colder against Alex's wet clothes. Their feet just above the water. Judy was able to move faster than the inflatable.
"I'm keeping it low. Will you stop complaining?" Judy rolled her eyes she sped up towards the island.
Avalon was a flawlessly clear lake, spanning nearly out of the eyes gaze. A small archipelago stood in the centre with a few decrepit towers from even before Merlin's time. Merlin thinned his eyes to the towers. He wasn't there for the dead though. He poked his staff into the water. He watched the ripples spread through the lake.
"Nimue. Don't ignore me now." The water began to bubble in front of Merlin. It rose and formed a shape. It began with the bare feet. The woman entirely made of water stood atop of her lake. Nimue stared Merlin in the eyes.
"No matter how many times I try. You come back. I would have ignored you more if I realised it got me this much attention."
"Nimue can we not do that now? It's important."
"So now you care about time."
"Excalibur is missing." Nimue froze on the spot. The water around her began to chill. She walked from her lake closer to Merlin. Her body began to bubble. Her voice grew cold as she pushed herself up against Merlin. He could feel the heat.
"What."
"It's missing. You know gone."
"I gave it to you for safe keeping."
"And it was kept safe, until recently. One thousand and one hundred years isn't bad."
"You lost Arthur's." Nimue turned around. The water of Avalon now started to heat up. Steam began to rise from her lake. "First you lost the scabbard."
"Actually, the scabbard was stolen."
"First you lost the scabbard. Now the sword? How long has it been missing?"
"A day?" A burst of water erupted from Avalon, shaped into a hand it slapped Merlin's face.
"Why did it take so long to notify me?"
"Well, I was looking for candidates."
"How many were there?"
"None." Merlin lowered his head. "I was hoping. You created Excalibur. You can help me find it?"
"Excalibur is not my sword not anymore. I've even forgotten what It looks like. You know who you must talk to." The water rippled with Nimue's step. As the ripple moved over the water. It acted like a slide. It revealed a picture of King Arthur in his youth. A Merlin that had colour in his hair and beard by his side.
Merlin turned from the photo of the youth.
"No. Not a chance. He and I left on awful terms."
"He is also naked. Arthur had lost his weapons. Only using magic to make imperfect constructs." Nimue raised her hand. A blade surfaced from the lake. "He needs a real sword." Merlin turned back to view the blade. His jaw dropped. There was a visible crack down the middle of the blade. It appeared to be a normal English broadsword. The blade's cracks were filled in with water.
"Caliburn." Merlin raised his hands to gently take the sword. "I forget how large your armoury is."
"and my graveyard. There are somethings I prefer you not know."
"And you accused me of keeping secrets." Merlin muttered under his breath. He returned Caliburn to his sheathe.
"I accused you of cheating." Nimue snapped back to Merlin "I was proven right with that bastard. I have shown you kindness because I expect you to retrieve Excalibur. You will then leave me for another thousand years, or your next incompetent mistake. If you wish Arthur to live longer this time. I suggest you start searching for his old weapons. Nimue retreated into the water. She left Merlin to stare at the sword. It was somewhat restored. If only it had stayed that way. The boy's smile was shown in this sword. A lifetime away from the greying king with blood in his beard. He had to see that face again. Merlin vanished in a puff of smoke.
Judy reached the island. Her feet touched the floor. Alex's nails dug into her skin. His eyes closed.
"We're here." Judy waited for Alex to open his eyes before the broom dropped. Alex walked around; trying to regain feeling in his legs
"We are not doing that again."
"Deal. You're a screamer." Judy stuck a finger in her ear and maid marp noises. Alex walked to the Titans tower door and knocked on it. Nightwing was already there. The doors opened to give him access.
"I'll re-activate your beacon tonight. That should work as your pass. So decided to join us?" Alex walked to the elevator, joined by Judy and Nightwing.
"For now. I'm just waiting for Lance to get better. Then he'll get his power back."
"Good enough for me. You'll get Lance's old room then." Judy raised her brow to Alex.
"You mean you're just going to give away your powers?"
"They're not mine. I just borrowed them." The elevator stopped. Judy shot a look to Alex.
"I'll see you tomorrow then. See if you can use those borrowed powers." The elevator went further down into the ground. Nightwing lead Alex to his new room. The ride had tired Alex.
"I'll get you up tomorrow for orientation." Nightwing closed the door to let Alex rest on his bed.
Author's note: WOW this chapter took 2 weeks longer than expected. I can't edit, O felt a lack of motivation with work on the weekends and that's when I usually post. So like most my Fanfics I've gotten into the weird habit of Journaling my experience as a write through blogs. Ideas, concepts. Essentially extended author's notes.
