It had been a month since Haley had finally escaped from her step-father. Hank had paid him a visit in prison, warned him to stay away from her. That hank had eyes and ears in the prison. He had to serve 10 years, some of the offences had been tweaked to make them worse than they were, Hayley didn't want to know. She trusted Hank and his team with her life.

She was back at work on desk duty and was loving it, except that she was away from Grace all day. Trudy and Mouch had offered their spare room to Hayley and Grace, u till they were on their feet.

Jay had gone under cover the day after Haley moved in with Trudy, his team had been amazing, they had collected all the stuff from Mike's house and even built the nursery furniture for them. Jay was still away, she heard bits and pieces in passing from the team.

Tonight, she was on her own, Trudy was on a night shift so was Mouch. Grace was in bed asleep and Hayley was on the sofa watching TV. A knock at the door made Hayley jump, she walked into the hallway, slowly peeking through the hole in the door. Jay was stood on the other side of the door, flinging it open she was shocked to see him battered and bruised. He looked like he had been to Med so she ushered him inside.

"What the heck happened, are you OK? Does Hank know you are here? Are you finished under cover?"

"Hayley stop! I'm fine, yes I'm done and no, why would I tell him I'm coming to see you."

"OK, do you want a drink?"

"Yes, please I'd love a beer!"

"OK sit down, I'll grab some"

Jay headed to the front room, took his jacket off and dropped on to the sofa, Hayley walked in with two beers, and sat next too him. In the time they had spent together before she moved in with Trudy, they had become firm friends. There was more but for now they kept that at bay. Soft looks, lingering stares, they know that soon they won't be able to stop the feelings from bubbling over. For now, though they were happy being ignorant. The team on the other hand, had all placed bets on how long it would be before they got together.

"Have you eaten?" Jay asked.

"No I fed Grace and was going to have something in a bit, what are you thinking?"

"Bertollies, Meat feast, BBQ of course." He winked at her, a small smile graced his lips, she was sold.

"Sounds amazing." Grace let out a cry "you order I'll be back!"

Grace wasn't going to settle so she took her downstairs. As soon as she saw Jay she did a happy dance, arms and legs kicking, almost throwing herself out of Hayley's arms and into Jay's.

"Hey beautiful girl, have you missed me?" Jay asked taking the child from Hayley.

"I'm going to get milk you want more beer?"

"Please!" Jay sat on the sofa with Grace, she snuggled into him, her small hand patting him on his shoulder.

"Here one for you and one for you. Are you coming to momma?"

Grace turned the other way drinking her milk snuggled into Jay.

"OK then, sorry if she is hurting you, I can take her."

"I'm good honest"

The door bell went again and Hayley froze.

"It's the, pizza you, OK?" Jay asked.

"Yeah, I'll go sorry, still jumpy"

They ate in silence watching the TV Grace fell asleep and Jay took her to bed. Hayley cleaned up and sat back down. Jay took a while so she went to see what he was doing. He was sat on the chair in Hayley's room, talking to Grace, seeing Hayley he smiled.

"She won't go down, I'm stuck!"

"Mr Big shot Detective being held hostage by a tiny baby. Lucky for you I got pictures for the ransom. Proof of life" she giggled.

Jay could listen to her all day. She slowly took her from him and placed her in her crib. She saw Jay move and didn't register where he had gone until he placed his hands on her hips. She stiffened for a second, then relaxed into him. His breath caught on her neck below her ear, making her shudder in his arms. His hands moved around to her waist, his head lowering to kiss her neck, a gasp escaped her lips, she moved her head to the side to give him better access, his nose trailed along her ear back down to her shoulder. Heat pooled between her legs and she turned her head to look at him. Their eyes meeting, both unsure if this was the right thing to do but, both getting caught in the moment. Hayley turned in his arms, her arms snaking round his shoulders her lips attached to his. His hands moving down her waist to her bum. Lifting her he spun her round to the bed. They kissed for an eternity, hands exploring each other. Pulling back Hayley bit her lip.

"Jay, what's happening? What is this? I mean I know I like you, A Lot! But what is this, I can't lose you as a friend if this doesn't work."

"You won't and this isn't going any further tonight, if we do this we are doing it properly, I'm going to take you on a date, wine you and dine you, treat you like the princess you are."

Hayley blushed, sat back and looked at Jay.

"Hey is this what you want cause if not I totally can forget about it. Honestly it was nothing, I kiss Burgess like that all the time." They both laughed. Hayley jumped on Jay straddling him arms round his neck kissing him like she had never kissed anyone before. Pouring all the words she couldn't speak to him in to the kiss. They ended up laying next to each other. Hayley on his chest his arms around her. They fell asleep after talking for hours. Grace was awake at 6 am and Jay was about to go out of the front door when Trudy walked in.

"Trudy hi, you have a good shift?"

Hayley had cringed when she heard Trudy's voice, she listened to Jay's explanation of why he was here so she knew what to say.

The door closed and Trudy walked into the kitchen.

"Morning, you, OK?" Hayley asked.

"Morning, yes thank you. Are you OK? I just saw Jay leaving."

"Yeah, he came over when he got back from his UC gig. I dint want to say anything but last night was my first night on my own in a while so he offered to stay. I'm sorry I didn't ask you, but Nothing is happing between us we are just friends, I'm sorry,"

"Hayley it's fine. I never thought about you being alone so soon I'm sorry. I know Jay's a good guy I'm glad you two are friends. Just don't jump in feet first if it ends up being more, and I'll always babysit if you ever need me too. OK?"

"Thank you, Trudy, so much" tears fell from Hayley's eyes.

"Hey what's with the tears?"

"I'm scared, what if we do this and we don't work, he's my closest friend. I've known him a month, but it feels like I've known him all my life. We just clicked and I feel like it's hard to breath when I think about him." Tears ran down her face, she was seriously shaken by how honest she was being. Trudy pulled her in for ha hug.

" If it's supposed to be, then you will figure it out. Your both intelligent people, you belong together. I've seen the way you look at each other, the way you interact it's like you have been married for years. Grace loves him. Did he stay, stay the night?" winking and tipping her head a smile ghosting her lips.

"Yes, but nothing happened I swear. He's a really amazing friend to me, we have talked about it but I'm so unsure of what's going on. Trudy I've been scared before, terrified even, but this just takes my breath away and I can't help it, but what if I screw it up?"

"Only time will tell. I'm here for you every step of the way, you know that right?"

Hayley smiled and hugged Trudy closer.

"Thank you!"

The next morning Jay walked into the district as Hayley was walking out to start her patrol. They smiled at each other and carried on walking. Getting on with their morning. Their paths crossed at Med, Hayley was questioning a man who's son was hurt in a crash. He became upset with the questions she was asking. He was getting in her face, angry with her. The other boy involved in the crash, walked past and said something to the man. He went to grab the teen. Only Hayley was in the way, not for long, she managed to detain him and had him in cuffs and on the floor. Jay had seen it all from where he was stood at the nurses' station. With a smile him and Ruzek headed over and help Hayley, even though she didn't really need it.

"Are you OK?" Jay asked at he pulled the Dad to his feet.

"No! did you see what that Bitch did to me!" he protested.

"Watch your mouth, I wasn't talking to you." Jay looked at Haley who just smiled at him.

"I'm good, thanks" she smiled back at him.

"Get a room!" Ruzek muttered under his breath. Both Hayley and Jay side eyed each other and blushed.

The end of her shift, Hayley was leaving to get Grace from Day care, Jay following behind her.

*You free tonight? * Hayley's phone received a message.

*I'm not busy, but I have Grace. *

*Bertollies, my place and bring Grace? * They sat in their own cars opposite each other, eyes locked.

*OK, what time? *

* Now, I'll order and see u in 20? *

*OK see you soon *

Hayley text Trudy to let her know she wasn't coming straight home. Her reply was a winky face.

Hayley walked up to Jay's door and knocked. He answered and Grace did her happy dance. Hayley placed her on the floor in the hallway as they took coats of and hung them up, she cried, Jay picked her up and she stopped.

"Seriously Grace, you are too spoilt. You OK with her whilst I do her dinner?"

"Sure actually, I have something in there for you, well for Grace, it's from my nephew when he stayed a few times, he's 4 now so doesn't use it."

In the kitchen was a highchair. Hayley turned and looked at him.

"I also have a crib thing; my brother was dating a girl who he was working with. She has a boy Owen he came a few times like I say he's four now, I kept telling will to get his stuff, good job he didn't"

"Yeah, sit her in I'll sort this out"

They sat talking while Grace ate and they waited for the pizza. Grace played, while they ate.

"So, let's play 20 questions?" Hayley asked.

"OK you start" Jay suggested,

H "favorite color?"

J "blue"

H "favorite film?"

J "All time? Fast furious"

H "you ever been Married?"

J "Yes, it was Vegas, we were young drunk and just back from war. Next time I want it to be the real deal. The church, the reception and the Honey moon 2 weeks in Greece."

H "Greece? you know my Grandparents were from Greece. My Dad owned a restaurant in Greek Town that's how I met Trudy."

J "yeah, you said, did she scare you?"

"No, she was amazing, my Dad had been killed and she managed to keep me calm and get me to the district. Anyway, next question. So you want to get married again, what about kids, do you want any? Have you got any?"

J " Your going deep with these, no I don't have any kids and yes I do want some, I think I'd like two. What about you? Do you want any more?"

H "yes, just the one more though. Two is a good number. I definitely want to be married and settled before I have anymore though. In an ideal world, a boy so I'd have one of each, but I'd be happy with anything. Next question? – Jay nodded- OK, if you weren't a cop what would you be doing?"

J "that's a hard one, I'm not sure! I'm not very academic, so not a Dr like will, I could see myself in construction or maybe stripper, I don't know. You have me stumped. That's a first." He blushed.

H "wow I need to get this on Facebook to remember it in years to come."

They talked and laughed Grace had fallen asleep on Jay's knee, he put her in the crib, sitting down next to Hayley, he ran his fingers along her arm that was on the back of the sofa, holding her head up. Their eyes met and Hayley was the first to look down. Jay slowly lifted his hand that was free and placed his finger under her chin, lifting her face so he could look into her eyes.

"You are stunning, you know that right?"

"No, I'm nothing Jay, just plain old Hayley."

Their eyes flicked down to each others lips. Hayley's top teeth grazed over her bottom lip her tongues wetting her lips. Slowly their lips met and they kissed. A slow long delicious kiss. Their tongues danced a delightful dance, Jay's hands laced through Hayley hair, his nails scratching her head, ever so slowly sending shivers down her back. Hayley ran her hand from the back of Jay's neck, and down his front, feeling his chest muscles ripple as she touched him. Jay pulled his lips slightly away from Hayley and continued kissing up her chin to her earlobe, gently nipping it eliciting a gasp from her, he ran his tongue over where he had nipped, his breath tickling her slightly. They both smiled, Jay continued down her neck, soft open-mouthed kisses down to her collar bone. Hayley's hands slowly moved round Jay's body, caressing his body, heat was cursing through her veins.

"Jay!"

"Yeah, - pulling back he looked at her- I'm sorry! I just, I'm sorry."

"No Jay, I was just going to tell you to, take me to bed!" blushing beetroot

"Hayley are you sure? I want to go slow to get to know you. To date you and not rush in."

"I know and I do really appreciate it, I just want you so bad right now."

They started kissing again, they got as far as taking Jay's top off before Grace had other ideas. Cries filled the apartment. They both laughed still kissing.

"Sorry!" Hayley apologized as she pulled away from Jay walking into his bedroom.
