Introduction:

Seto Kaiba scowled to himself as he waited outside the classroom for the teacher to finish telling the other students that there would be a transfer student joining them. Before his adoptive father had thrown himself to his death, the old man had thought that transferring him from the high end Domino Academy he had been attending to Domino High for a while would be a good opportunity for him to remember how the commoners lived. Or more likely it was a power play to remind him of where he had come from and to remember his place.

After the old bastard was dead he had delayed the transfer for a while due to dealing with some legal issues and his efforts to secure the Blue Eyes White Dragon cards. He could have cancelled it altogether, but he had decided to go along with it for one reason and one reason alone – he wanted something. Something that he could only get by mixing with these... plebs.

Finally, the teacher finished his exhaustively long introduction and it was time for him to enter, so he plastered a smile upon his face and entered the room. He had to stop himself from staring down his nose at those students that seemed to have stars in their eyes at the fact that such an august individual as himself would be joining their class, but then his eyes alighted on him – Yugi Mutou. The small boy with the weird hair was his target because it would enable him to get close to the Blue Eyes White Dragon Card that was in his Grandfather's possession.

But he was unprepared for the jolt of recognition that went through him. It was almost as if they had met before or there was some kind of link... he shook that off as utter nonsense, putting it down to seeing the absurd hairstyle that the short boy sported in the flesh, and instead he diverted his attention to the rest of the students. Well, there was a girl next to Yugi with blue eyes and brown hair. She seemed to be some kind of cheerleader and appeared very normal compared to the colourful person she was sitting next to. He also considered that there was no way a dweeb like Yugi could attract a girl like that, other than as a friend.

Then there was a boy with messy yellow hair and another with a spiked hairdo. They seemed to be the thug contingent of this class. Then there was a girl with lavender hair, but he didn't seem to feel the same... tug... when he looked at her, so he let her fade from his mind. There didn't seem to be anyone else in this class worth any kind of note, so he once again plastered on a smile, introduced himself politely and went to sit down.

Some time later he would wonder that he had somehow correctly identified every current member of the class that would be a part of his life over the coming years, but at that time he only had one thing on his mind.

That Blue Eyes White Dragon card would be his!

Anzu Mazaki watched with rapt attention as the new transfer student was about to be introduced. She was always up for making new friends!

Then the door opened and Seto Kaiba walked in. He had green hair and strangely coloured eyes and something seemed to be rather... off about him. She noticed when he seemed to fixate on Yugi, then herself and Jonouchi and Honda in turn, his attention catching then sliding off Miho. He didn't seem to spare the rest of the class a glance, but he had somehow apparently identified everyone that she or Yugi had any kind of association with. But surely that was just some kind of weird coincidence, right?

She wasn't bothered that he was supposed to be the insanely rich heir to Kaiba Corporation. She did feel that she should try to get to know him, but something was telling her that now was not the time...

No matter, she would still offer him her friendship, but she would wait until everyone else stopped fawning over him before she spoke with him.

That chance didn't come though. The asshole ruined it by trying to kill them all in Death T, and by stealing and ripping up Yugi's Grandfather's rare card before Yugi's strange alter-ego had done something to him. After all that, (and after what had happened with Bakura), poor Miho had been so traumatised that she had transferred out to another school.

Seto Kaiba might be rich, but he was also a spoiled brat. So spoiled, in fact, that he had to steal or destroy what he could not buy or otherwise legitimately obtain.

She was glad that he was out as she didn't need a 'friend' like that!

A/N - I thought about which part I should post next, whether to post the part that comes after Midnight, or whether to go back to 'the beginning'. I decided that the beginning was probably best or I'd have headaches trying to fit it in somewhere as a flashback later.

I'm going to go from now and post what I have in (mostly) chronological order, (not 'prompt' order or it would be too all over the place). However, there are several of the associated 'prompts' I have not completed and there are still gaps in the story that I could possibly fill in with those, so I may add in other parts later if inspiration strikes. I'll see how it goes. (If something *is* out of order I'll make a note on the chapter - really I'm playing this by ear now.) XD

As a reminder - My takes on YGO are usually a pick&mix of Anime and Manga canons, with a touch of Season 0, some influence from YGOTAS, a bit of Fanon and my own personal headcanons thrown in here and there for good measure. I don't tend to bother with DSOD - not that it was even a thought when this was written anyway. ^_^'
