Chapter 4

Beth took out all her money, so all she had was cash now; she got some necessities like clothes and food. She rested in Optimus' cab cot while Optimus' holoform appeared and stared back at the human, not sure what he thought of her or even if he trusted her completely.

Beth opened her eyes and smiled at the holoform.

"Hey," she whispered, stretching.

Beth got up and went to the passenger seat and put her seatbelt on, and just sat there quietly.

"Why?" Optimus asked.

Beth glanced over at him.

"Why what?" she asked.

His holoform frowned and then sighed.

"Why did you help me?" he asked as his holoform spotted another semi-form, and he scanned it to take another form.

"Oh, that," she said, pausing. "It was the right thing to do; you are not bad like the Decepticons were," she explained.

"You said that your father worked there?" Optimus asked.

She frowned then.

"He was never a father. My mom died when I was in junior high. I was not too fond of the fact I was with dad. He didn't care about me. He would work with Attinger and Joyce all the time. I never liked those two. They gave me the creeps. I am not sure why, but they did, and I told him he shouldn't be involved with them," Beth explained. "Want to know his reaction?" she asked as Optimus nodded but wasn't sure what he was going to hear next from the girl.

"He hit me," was all she said.

Silence hit Optimus then.

"I'm sorry," he finally said.

She shrugged then.

"He told me his life was none of my business, so I just figured fine then my life wasn't any of his business either," Beth stated.

"Sounds like a lonely life," Optimus said.

Beth shrugged at his words.

"I freed you because it was the right thing to do; they would have killed you," she remarked with such complete and utter urgency that it floored Optimus at that point.

Silence...

"You need a friend, Optimus, someone who has your back. I want to be that person. You have to learn to trust again; why not trust me?" Beth asked.

Optimus looked over at her then.

Could he trust her?

Would she keep her word?

Optimus felt a small tug on his spark. He didn't want to be alone. He craved companionship, but trust was so hard for him.

"I want to be there for you," she replied.

He sighed.

"Do you give me your word?" he asked.

"Yes," she said as she undid her seatbelt, confusing him.

"Why are you..." he started to say until she flung herself on him, hugging him.

Oh my...!
