It was funny to think of Carter as shy. Awkward, sure, but shy? He babbled like a brook and was friendly with everyone he met unless they gave him reason otherwise.
But there were some things that just made him recoil with embarrassment, that made him want to shy away from the spotlight and hide. Being naked in front of a crowd was one of those things.
It was funny that he was worried about the exposure to the public when it was the least of his problems. But Hochstetter wanted his humiliation to be complete before he was hanged.
