Chapter 2
Supergirl watched as the ambulance drove away with Lena. Jodi was being attending to by a paramedic on scene, her arm was grazed by a bullet, and she had a cut on her forehead. Kara was torn, she wanted to go to the hospital and be with Lena, but she gave up that right when she coldly ended things with her.
She called James, letting him know what happened to Lena. Alex was next on her list to call; she had cleared things with the police handing over the main rioters she collected as they tried to flee. She handled the shooter with a little more force than she would normally, but he hurt the one she lo… because he hurt Lena.
"Alex," Kara almost cried when she heard her sister's voice. "Lena was shot, they've taken her to the hospital I don't…I don't know what to do."
"Hey, come to the DEO, okay and I'll go to the hospital with you."
"I don't know if I should, I want to but after what I did, I don't know if I can and if Lillian is there it might make things worse."
"Just come here Kara, we'll work it out."
When Supergirl arrived at the DEO, Alex had greeted her sister with a hug and took her to her office, "I called a friend and she told me that Lena is in surgery, she was shot twice but one was a through and through of the thigh, the other was her shoulder, and they are operating to remove it."
"I should have seen it, I should have stopped it, Alex! I was right there and I …" Kara cried as she fell to the floor.
Alex kneeled next to her sister, "Hey, hey it's not your fault Kara."
"But it is Alex this is all my fault, I…I hurt her, and now she could die. I didn't, I couldn't… I should have been faster. I was too wrapped up in thinking about her, and…and Jodi said something about Lena leaving Nat City and I just...I couldn't think about anything else."
Alex knew she couldn't placate the superhero, so she just hugged her and held on as Kara cried.
"This wasn't supposed to happen, Lena was never to get hurt, I should've known." Kara said quietly holding Alex tighter letting more tears fall.
Once Alex deemed Kara composed enough to leave the DEO, the two went to the hospital to find out about Lena's surgery. When they arrived, they spotted Jodi who was on the phone talking to someone about L-Corp with Lena out of commission.
"No way in hell, Lena would not want that...that battle-ax near her company let alone run it. No just NO!" Jodi pinched the bridge of her nose. "Look Oliver, this is not happening, Lena will be out of surgery soon, she'll be back before you know it, we don't need Lillian Luthor running L-Corp. Lena will tell you that herself when she is awake. Just hold off, will you?"
Jodi ended the conversation jabbing her finger on the flat surface of her phone. She was so riled up she wanted to throw the phone against the nearest wall. "Gah, I miss the slamming down of the receiver." She half smiled when she saw Kara and Alex.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" Kara asked as they got closer to the CFO.
"Oh, I'm good, thanks it was just a scratch, nothing serious. Same with the noggin, I think I did more damage to the stage than my head. You didn't get hurt, did you? I didn't see you once the shots were fired."
"No, I'm fine, I wasn't near the stage. Lena always said you were hard-headed I guess she was right." Kara said trying to lighten things up even though her chest was heavy with sorrow. "Has there been any news? Do you know how she is?"
"Nothing recent, the last I was told was she had lost a lot of blood, but the bullet didn't pierce any vital organs or any major blood vessels. I just wish I had gotten to her sooner."
Kara felt like crying all over again, she felt the same but couldn't voice it, instead looked down and fidgeted her fingers trying to regain some control.
"Do you know if they caught the bastard? I didn't get chance to talk to the police yet."
"Um yeah, Supergirl got there and caught him and others."
"Good, too bad she wasn't there earlier. God I can't believe this, I've told Lena numerous times that she should have bodyguards, but she kept telling me no, that she would be fine."
Alex held out her hand, "Hi, I'm Kara's sister Alex by the way."
"Hi, Jodi Turner, CFO of L-Corp and good friend of Lena's, nice to meet you although I wish it were under better circumstances." Jodi smiled thinking Alex was quite beautiful.
"Nice to meet you as well. I guess we should all sit and get comfortable, would either of you like some coffee?"
"Thank you but I think I've had my fill already. I truly hate hospitals; it just feels like all the illness here is covering me I feel unprotected."
Kara had been quiet thinking about Lena and what she heard Jodi say on the phone. "I'm fine, thanks Alex. Jodi, I didn't mean to, but I overheard a part of your phone conversation, is Lillian really going to step in for Lena at L-Corp?"
"Are you asking as a reporter and or as Lena's so-called friend?"
Kara stiffened at the severity of Jodi's tone, but she knew she deserved it. She knew that Jodi and Lena were close, and that Lena probably confided in her about what happened.
"As her friend." Kara said quietly.
Jodi hesitated before answering, she looked over the young woman who hurt her friend, but the blonde's distraught appearance told her everything she needed.
"As soon as Lillian found out Lena was hurt, she called a meeting with the board. I'm not sure how or why they would even listen to her, but they bought into whatever bull Lillian fed them and now they're agreeing to allow her to run things with Lena out of commission. It's not right and I have the lawyers on it, after everything Lillian has done, I can't believe she would try this. I swear Lena barely hit the ground and Lillian was…Jesus."
"What is it?" Alex asked watching Jodi red from anger to pale in seconds.
"You don't think Lillian Luthor had anything to do with this, with Lena being shot?" Jodie asked.
Kara gasped knowing it was a possibility. Lillian was the cruelest person she'd ever met and no matter how much she said she loved her children and wanted only what was best she only ever had her own interests at heart. If she can gain any sort of power, she will take it any way she can.
Alex knew what her sister was thinking and that she wanted to find Lillian, but she also knew she didn't want to leave the hospital until Lena was out of surgery.
Alex got up pretending that she received a call and came back telling the two that she had to get back to the office and would check in later giving a Kara a look that she would investigate this and let her know.
Kara got up and hugged Alex whispering a thank you and then sat back down waiting for word on Lena.
A couple of hours later, a tired looking doctor walked towards them, "Hi, I'm Dr. Porter, are you Jodi Turner?"
Jodi stood up a little groggy, "Yes I'm Jodi, how's Lena? Is she okay?"
The doctor looked over at Kara then back to Jodi, "Perhaps we should go elsewhere?"
"No, Kara can hear this as well; please Dr. Porter is Lena all right?"
"Yes, Ms. Luthor suffered two bullet wounds one to the left thigh and one to her right shoulder. The examination of the thigh revealed it to be a through and through wound with no bone, nerve, or major vessel involvement. The wound to her shoulder was a little bit more complicated."
"I'm sorry, but just please tell us if she's going to be okay, you can explain the medical stuff later." Jodi interrupted.
"Of course, Ms. Luthor will be fine in a few days, due to the blood loss I would like for her to stay 2-3 days before being released. She will need someone to be with her for at least 10 days. She cannot use a walker or crutches due to her shoulder. She'll be immobilized for a couple of weeks."
"I'll make sure she has the help she needs for as long as she needs, whether she wants it or not. Um when can we see her?"
"Very good, she's in recovery right now but a nurse will come and get you once she has been moved into her room. I would say roughly an hour or so, she hasn't woken fully as yet."
"Thank you, doctor, thank you so much." Jodi said as she shook the man's hand then turned to Kara and hugged her. "Such great news."
"It is, I'm so relieved, thank you for letting me stay and hear what the doctor said."
Jodi let go and started to make calls to let the board know Lena was just fine.
Kara sat back down on her chair, she was able to breathe again, Lena was going to be okay. She took out her phone and messaged Alex, she knows who was behind this and she was going to find Lillian and take her down for good.
