Kara was angry, she trusted her when Lena told her that she no longer had any kryptonite. 'Why would she lie, I know we didn't get along as Supergirl, but she should have told me.' She needed to clear her mind and focus, she needed to stop Lillian.
Arriving on Lena's balcony, Kara walked into Lena's office knowing there was a secret entrance to get down to the lab. Pressing the button underneath the bar, the wall behind it opened to reveal an elevator. Kara wasn't sure of the passcode and was going to use her laser but noticed that the controls were already damaged.
Lillian was here and she wasn't alone.
Alex and J'onn were on their way to L-Corp with DEO agents not knowing what they were going to face when they arrived.
"I still can't get through to Supergirl, she's too hard-headed to listen and wait!"
"I'm not sure where she gets that from," J'onn smirked but continued "She's upset with herself and now Lena but mostly Lillian Luthor. You and I both know she's not going to wait for backup. We can only do what we can and hope that she gets to the kryptonite before Luthor does."
"I thought we were done with this, with harming Supergirl and Superman. What is Lena doing? I mean she told us she didn't have anymore. Are we even sure its kryptonite that she was talking about? She was partially unconscious."
"Supergirl seems to think so, we're almost there everyone gear up!"
Lena groaned as she opened her eyes, looking around she realized she was in the hospital. "Hello?" she croaked.
A door opened and Jodi walked into the room.
"Hey, how are you feeling? Do you need anything?"
"Water please. W-What happened?" Lena asked as she took a spoonful of ice chips from her friend.
"You don't remember? You were giving your speech and you had hecklers, one had a gun. You were shot in the leg and shoulder."
"Was anyone else hurt, did they get the shooter?"
"No, no one else was hurt and yeah Supergirl turned up and got the guy."
"Kara." Lena sighed.
"Yeah, she's all right. She was here too, waited with me while you were in surgery."
"She was?"
"Yeah, she only left a short while ago. Listen, we're not sure and I don't want to upset you, but you were talking a little in your sleep and it seemed as if you were afraid that your mother was going for something at L-Corp."
Lena closed her eyes; everything is muddled they must have her on some good drugs. Kara was here, stayed here waiting to see how she was. Why would she do that if…
"Lena? Are you alright? Let me get the nurse."
"NO! No, I'm just trying to get my head around some things and the medication is making me befuddled. What exactly did I say in my sleep?"
"I'm not 100% sure but Kara seemed to be, and she left right after. It was something like crypt, L-Corp and mother but like I said I'm not sure."
"Oh god. I need to get out of here and get to L-Corp!"
"Whoa Lena, you're not going anywhere! Lay back down."
"No, no I…I…need."
"What's going on in here?" The on-duty nurse asked walking into the room. Lena's heart monitor was beeping loudly.
"She's trying to get out of bed like the idiot she is."
"Ms. Luthor are you in any pain? Do you need another dose of…"
"NO! no more medication please I need to get to my office." Lena interrupted still trying to sit up.
"Ms. Luthor, you are not getting out of this bed for a few days, please lay back before you injure yourself even more."
Lena laid back against the pillow realizing she won't be able to get up. "Can you…can you call…"
"Who Lena? Who do you want me to call?"
"Um, I…call Kara please."
"I don't have her number, Lena."
"I know it, just call her I need to speak with her right away."
Jodi made the call then hung up, "There's no answer, why do you need Kara? I thought you two were on the outs or something."
"We are or we were you said she was here, yes? I need to get a message to um…oh! Alex! Call her sister Alex!"
The elevator stopped and Supergirl walked out straight to the lab where she could hear Lillian talking to someone. She didn't care about the kryptonite; she just wanted to take Lillian down but before she made another step she was picked up and thrown across the room.
"What the…" Supergirl muttered as she stood up looking around seeing the woman she wanted to pulverize. "LILLIAN! We had a deal! I did what you wanted and yet you still hurt Lena!"
"Hello Kara Danvers, and yes well deals were meant to be broken and Lena was not doing what I wanted, she wasn't behaving like a normal heartbroken woman. She wouldn't let me console her." Lillian tsked walking over to a table running her finger across it, inspecting for dust.
Supergirl cringed at that, knowing she was the one who hurt her. "You promised me. She's your daughter, how can you…how could you…she was shot TWICE! She could have died!"
"Step-daughter. And she didn't die, she will make a full recovery and while she's doing that, I will run L-Corp the way it was meant to be. This was mine and Lex's company which she stole from us. Lex and I were unstoppable, we were going to make this country, this world a better place for humans! But after Lex was taken down by your so-called cousin, Lena stepped in and ruined everything!"
"I can't believe you. You would kill your daughter for L-Corp? Who are you? You talk about aliens ruining the world but it's people you and Lex not us!"
"Get rid of her, I need to get into this room." Lillian order then walked to a vault that was uncovered by Lex's creation, Destructo Man.
Destructo Man was an unusually large, masked man with glowing purple eyes; he seemed to be a mutation of a human being. He turned, running towards the superhero and the closer he got to Kara the stranger she felt. She could feel her inhibitions weakening, shaking her head she went after him.
She swung at him, but he moved as quickly as Supergirl and avoided being hit. He plowed into her sending them both into the steel wall of the lab. Supergirl was winded; she didn't know what was happening to her.
He picked her up lifting her over his head and threw her across the room, crashing into a glass cabinet. Supergirl was slow to get up, she knew there was kryptonite in the room it was affecting her, there was no way she could fight him for much longer.
"You won't win, Supergirl." Lillian said as she was looking for a panel to get into the vault. "Lex made him, but I've made some modifications which makes him as strong as you and when I find Lena's latest experiment, he'll be indestructible you and your cousin won't have a chance."
Lillian turned back towards the vault. "Stop playing with her Max break through this door and then finish her."
"Max? Maxwell Lord? I thought he left town, what did you do to him? He has kryptonite I can feel it."
"Of course, Maxwell Lord, he's smart but not as smart as I am. He may have developed the red kryptonite, but I developed a variant that when joined together with the red we have amaranthine kryptonite. He was all too eager to consume it to overtake you and be the strongest in the world. It's weakening you now, siphoning your powers but when I join it with what I believe Lena's been working on well, it will knock you right off this planet. Literally."
Supergirl was feeling sick, she knew Lillian had a screw loose, but this was her completely unhinged. And to think Lena was working on something to hurt her and Kal-El, it was too much.
She wouldn't give in though; she needed to stop Lillian and had to go through this mutated Maxwell Lord to do so. With all that she had she got up and flew into him, grabbing his head and turning it as hard as she could. He reached up to stop her, but using her freeze breath on him, she stopped him before his hands got to her neck.
She knew that this was no longer Max, but she didn't want to kill him, she didn't know if he could be restored to his old self. Rao knows what they've done to him. She wrapped metal sheets around him and used her lasers to melt him to the wall, hoping it will keep him in place until help arrived.
Supergirl quickly went to Lillian to keep her from getting Lena's experiment. Hoping it wouldn't affect her any more than the amaranthine kryptonite. Now that Max was out of commission and away from her, she could feel her strength coming back a little.
"Come out of the vault, Lillian it's over."
Before Supergirl made her way over, she heard Alex, J'onn and other agents making their way to her.
"Supergirl! Are you alright? What the hell happened?"
"I'll fill you in, but Max needs to be detained before he breaks free, he's got kryptonite inside of him, it's something Lillian mixed with his red and it drains me."
"Max? Th…that's Maxwell Lord? Oh my God."
"We have to get Lillian before she gets Lena's experiment." Supergirl said as she quickly went to the vault.
"No Supergirl, don't!"
But Alex was too late, Supergirl was next to a jubilant Lillian Luthor who was opening a steel canister.
