Lena woke with a start, she looked around noting she was not in her own bed, she smiled when she realized she was in Kara's. She flopped back onto the pillow as she remembered the night they had. It was wonderful, amazing she'd never been so happy.

After she was released from the hospital, Kara stayed by her side, making sure she had everything she needed. She was kind and caring and they talked about everything and anything, and then she admitted that she was Supergirl. Lena finally found her happily ever after.

The apartment was quiet, too quiet. She got up and put on the black silk robe hanging on the back of the bedroom door. "Kara?" Not hearing anything Lena continued out towards the kitchen. Still no Kara but there was hot coffee in the pot. She pulled a mug from the cupboard and made her coffee with cream and sugar and turned towards the living room hoping to either find the superhero or at least a note.

All the happiness she felt disappeared when she saw, sitting on the couch was none other than her stepmother, Lillian with Kara laying on the floor.

"KARA!" Lena yelled dropping her mug, running to her love who was lying motionless next to Lillian.

Looking angrily to Lillian, Lena screamed, "What have you done?" She placed two fingers to Kara's neck checking for a pulse but finding none, she screamed again. "KARA! Please, KARA! NO! NO! What have you done?"

"I told you Lena that I would rid this world of all the aliens, and I decided to start with Supergirl. You should've seen her Dear, it was marvelous. I was going to wait for you to join us, but I just had to do it right away. It was so much fun, I'm off to see Superman now but I wanted to offer you a chance to redeem yourself and join me. We can rule the world, Lena."

"How could you? How? Why? I love her! Why would you do this? You're insane, and I'll never join you, Mother." Lena spat as she held Kara's head in her lap.

"I thought as much, Lena. You always were overemotional, and taking in strays," Lillian looked down at the alien in disgust. "You are too trusting, Lena. This abomination was killing earth, I did us a favour and I will continue to do so until the very last one is dead."

"You won't, I won't let you."

Lillian laughed at her step-daughter. "I will because I already have." Looking down at her watch she smiled. "Superman, the Martian and all the others will be dead in less than 20 minutes. I win. And if you don't want to join me then I'll put you out of my misery as well."

"NO!"

"Lena? Lena, wake up, Lena." Jodi said gently soothing her friend. "Lena."

Tear-soaked eyelids fluttered opened, "Kara," she whispered.

"Hey, it's me Jodi. You're in the hospital, you're going to be okay."

Lena looked up into worried brown eyes, "Jodi?"

"There you are. It's okay you were having a bad dream."

"I…I'm still in hospital? I thought…I thought I was home."

"Not yet, maybe tomorrow but most likely the next day. That must have been some dream." Jodi chuckled.

"Um yeah, I guess. Have you heard from Alex or Kara?"

"Not since I called her a couple of hours ago."

"A couple of hours?"

"Um well you were trying to get out of bed again, the nurse was afraid you were going to injure yourself and sedated you."

"Oh my God, please call Alex, and Kara I need to know if they're all right. If they didn't get to L-Corp before my mother, I just… I need to know Jodi, call them!"

"I'll call Alex, but what would Kara be doing there?"

"Just… just call them. Please."

Flashing red and blue lights, and black smoke filled the streets of National City outside the office of L-Corp. Fire fighters were in and out of the building and police officers were trying to keep bystanders a block away, no one knew what the black smoke was.

Maggie Sawyer was impatiently waiting until the building was cleared before she could go in. She knew Alex was in there, as some of her agents were being attended by paramedics. She already asked if they knew where Alex was, but they didn't know what happened after the explosion.

She tried calling Alex's number as well as Kara's but still nothing. Then she heard someone call out for a paramedic and quickly turned around and there was Alex helping a team member out of the building. She looked okay just covered in black soot.

"Danvers!"

Alex looked up and smiled, "hey."

"Jesus, Alex are you alright? What the hell happened?"

"Lillian Luthor."

"Okay well that explains it," Maggie said rolling her eyes then examined Alex with her eyes, "are you okay really?"

"Yeah, um Supergirl… was there she took most of the blast."

"Is she alright? Where is she?"

"She was taken back to base, which is where I need to be. I think we cleared everyone out, but I didn't see Lillian though, I think she got away in all the confusion and smoke. I'm sorry Maggie but I really need to get to the DEO."

"Yeah okay, you can fill me in later. I hope Supergirl will be all right."

"Thanks, talk to you later."

A sleeping Kara was laying on the sunbed when Alex arrived back at base. "How is she?"

Alex asked J'onn once she had a shower and change of clothes.

"She was a little weak from exposure to the kryptonite and the altercation with Maxwell Lord. That's why the explosion took a little more out of her than usual. She'll be fine after a few hours in the sunbed. How are you doing?"

"I'm okay but I hate that we lost Lillian Luthor. I'm not sure how she withstood the blast, she was the one holding the canister and how the hell did she get past us?"

"That was Supergirl, she contained it with her freeze breath, although from what Lena told us it wouldn't have been that damaging had Lillian not already broke open other containers. She made her own deadly concoction by turning Lena's lab upside down."

"Do you think Lena and Kara will get through this? I mean they were both keeping things from each other. I know I'm not one to say too much but those two need to talk."

J'onn looked at her and smiled, "You're right on all counts." He squeezed her shoulder and went back to his office and Alex went to see Kara.

Lena was sitting up against the headboard in her own bed typing on her laptop, frowning at a report, then back to one hand typing. Frustrated she shoved the laptop away which ended up on the floor. "I can't stand this!"

"What did that laptop ever do to you?" Kara asked standing in the doorway.

"Kara, hi. What are you doing here?"

"I hope it's all right, Jodi let me in, she said she was going to go out and get some groceries, muttering something about a finicky eater."

Lena sighed, "I'm not the most pleasant patient at least that's what the hospital staff and my own CFO say."

Kara chuckled, "I can understand that I'm not a good patient either. I'm sure you're asked this too many times to count but how are you feeling?"

"It's difficult to get around, Jodi has been great, but I think being in close quarters for this long is driving her a little crazy. I said I would hire a nurse until I could get on my feet, but she was adamant that she would stay and help."

"She seems great, and a little like Alex, so very protective."

"Kara, why are you here? I mean you made it perfectly clear before the shooting that you wanted nothing to do me, that our 'affair' and friendship was over and yet you were at the hospital and here now. I don't know what to think anymore when it pertains to you, to us." Lena said sadly.

"Lena, I…I only said those things to you because Lillian threatened to hurt you if I didn't break it off. We made a deal that if I stayed away from you that she wouldn't hurt you. I didn't think she was capable of the things she's done. I mean she's a world-renowned scientist but what she did to Maxwell Lord and then having you shot. I mean…I just thought if I stayed away from you, you would be protected."

"You said all those things and stopped seeing me because you made a deal with my mother? Why didn't you tell me? I could have saved us both the heartache. You don't make deals with Lillian Luthor, she only does what she wants, always has, always will."

"I didn't know that I didn't think she would actually hurt you. She also threatened to expose me and hurt Alex and Eliza."

"So, there it is, your identity it will always trump everything else."

"Lena, that's not…I couldn't tell you."

"Oh, bullshit Kara, I already knew! I've known it for a long time. You're not that great at making believable excuses. And I noticed similarities, your scar above your eyebrow, you don't change your earrings when you change into your suit, your perfume, and other things. I even hinted that I knew."

"People who know are in more danger because of knowing Supergirl."

"That's not a valid excuse, and that's not going to work with me."

"But it's true, look what happened to you!"

"That has nothing to do with me knowing who you are, Kara! That was because of a deranged woman who wants to obliterate you and other aliens, hell she wants to get rid of anyone she doesn't deem good enough to her."

"I don't know how to do this. I mean I've never, I've only… Rao I've never felt this way for anyone, not even James but I don't know what to do. It hurt so badly when I left that day. I never wanted to leave you, to break up with you but I thought I was protecting you and look how that turned out."

"Kara, come here please, sit with me."

Kara walked closer and sat on the bed beside Lena, "What happened to me was not your fault, my mother…"

"Step-mother."

"My step-mother being the maniacal, unbalanced, unhinged person she is, did this. What she did was not your fault."

"I thought you were trying to hurt me and Kal-El, when you spoke in the hospital, I thought you were hiding the fact you had more kryptonite, I was so angry and seeing what Max became and your mother…"

"Step-mother."

Kara smiled, "Your step-mother tearing your lab apart trying to find…what was she trying to find and what was in that container?"

"Oh well I…y'see I knew she was doing experiments, but I didn't realize to what degree I never knew she and Lex were doing that to people. For some reason she believed that I still had kryptonite and that I didn't give it all to Superman that I was making my own powerful synthetic version which I was not."

"Okay, but what was in that canister that blew up and destroyed your lab?"

"She created that disaster with Maxwell when they destroyed the lab. In that canister was mostly failed bits and pieces of experiments, a waste management container if you will. I set her up and had she not broken the vials, Bunsen burners and ripped the electrical causing sparks in the lab and vault, the fumes from waste in the canister would not have done anything but give her a rash."

Kara snorted, "A rash?"

"I knew she wouldn't give up no matter how many times I told her that I didn't have any more kryptonite, she just wouldn't believe me, so I went along with her to get her off my back."

"You're amazing, you know that?"

"I've been told now and then." Lena replied with a smile.

"I've missed this, I've missed you Lena so much."

"I've missed you too, Kara but what does this mean? What do you want because I can't do this if I'm just going to be hurt again by you? I know we both have issues with trust and that's something we'll have to deal with, but can you be with me, do you want that?"

"I'm sorry for hurting you and I'll do my best to never hurt you again." Kara paused then smiled at the women she loved, "But I promise you this, all I want, all I've ever wanted is to be with you."

"So, we'll talk and we'll learn to trust each and if my mother…"

"Step-mother."

Smiling Lena continues as she holds Kara's hand, "if Lillian Luthor tries something again, we'll tell each other right away."

"I promise."

"And I promise the same." Lena agreed as she pulled Kara close and sealed her promise with a kiss.
