The family of 4 carefully made their way up a steep hill, while ignoring the weariness that was setting in their limbs. They had been pursuing the tracks for a couple of hours nonstop, but they couldn't bring themselves to stop.

Suddenly, Celeborn whispered "There!" as he pointed towards an old hut on the top of the hill.

They were being extra quiet for they didn't want the human to know of their arrival, and wanted to preserve the element of surprise.

They all saw the hill then realization dawned on Glorfindel "The old hut! Of course!" he mentally cursed.

The old hut was originally built to accommodate the rangers of the north when they came to visit, but Elrond built them another house near the city of Imladris, for them not to be in a remote area.

"Let us make haste then." Elrond said, itching to hold his child in his arms.

They started trekking faster up the hill until they stood by the house, and carefully peered inside the dusty window. They could see a mop of blonde hair on the floor while a man stood over him, holding a knife.

Fiery rage ignited inside Elrond as he saw red, and he forgot all about being quiet as he strode to the door, kicked it down and lunged at the human.

"LEAVE MY SON ALONE YOU WORTHLESS PIECE OF SCUM!" he roared as he knocked the knife out of his hand and pinned the stunned human to the wall.

The other elves rushed inside. Galadriel immediatly went to her grandson's side while Celeborn and Glorfindel pulled Elrond off the dazed human.

"Elrond! See to your son, we will take care of the piece of scum." Celeborn spat out the last few words.

As soon as his father said the words of 'your son', reality crashed down on Elrond, and he rushed over to the child sprawled over the floor. He was sobbing, but was pushing away at Galadriel's hands, for he thought she was the human. He still couldn't see through his trauma.

He knelt besides the sobbing elfling and carefully but quickly drew him in his arms, and started to sniff his elfling's blonde hair and kiss it, wanting to smell and feel his son's scent and touch for his heart to calm.

"Oh Legolas, my baby. Oh my little leaf, you're alive, you're okay. Ada's here, I won't let anyone hurt you." Elrond said as he rocked his child back and forth, hugging him tightly and pressing kisses to his hair and whispering words of comfort as the child sobbed.

Then, Legolas stopped sobbing and fighting, smelling his father's scent, "Ada?" he hiccuped, chest heaving yet his breathing was hard.

"Yes, it's ada my Legolas, my heart. You're alright." he said as he hugged the child tighter.

Legolas clutched at his father's tunic tightly "Ada don't go! Don't leave me." he sobbed.

Elrond shook his head, tears streaming down his cheeks "No, no. Never, You're safe now my heart. No one will ever hurt you." Elrond promised the child as he rocked him back and forth while Galadriel stroked the child's blonde hair. She was silently crying too.

"Ada it hurts." Legolas sobbed, tears streaming down his face too.

At the words, Elrond and Galadriel paled, their relief at finding the elfling had made them partially forget that the child was injured and hurting.

Elrond slowly started to lay Legolas down on the floor only for Legolas to clutch tightly at his father and scream "NO! ADA DON'T LEAVE."

Elrond quickly soothed the child, cupping his head and holding him close to his chest. "No my little leaf, I'm not going anywhere, I only have to see how much you're hurt, to make the pain go away. I'll stay right here I promise." he vowed, cursing internally when he felt how hot Legolas was. The child was practically boiling, it was like having a fire pressed to him. Yet he couldn't care less at feeling uncomfortable from the heat, his child was with him and that was all that mattered.

Legolas nodded reluctantly then allowed his father to lay him flat on his back on the floor. Elrond carefully started to remove his son's tunic only for Legolas to scream at the slightest movement.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry my little leaf. It's alright." Elrond quickly soothed over the sounds of his son's sobbing, then glanced at his mother to do her thing. Galadriel nodded through her tears and placed her hand on the child's head, not missing how he flinched, but calmed a bit after smelling his grandmother's scent. She willed the child to go to sleep and within moments, the elfing's sobs ceased and his eyes shut.

"His breathing is wet." Elrond noted as he pressed a pointed ear to his elfling's chest, and sure enough there was fluid in his lungs. A dangerous amount too.

Elrond then grabbed the knife that he had knocked from the human's hand and cut his son's tunic only to nearly vomit at the sight. Legolas's entire chest and midsection was mottled with bruises, old and new, but was most concerning was the severe discoloration on Legolas's abdomen.

"He's bleeding internally." Galadriel whispered with dread.

Elrond quickly resumed his examination. Legolas had two broken ribs, and one of them had grazed, but thankfully didn't puncture his lung. This caused his already vulnerable lungs to overwork themselves as they grazed the rib every time he inhaled, and weakened them extensively. Legolas was also severely malnourished and dehydrated, which caused his body to succumb to illness which quickly settled into his weakened and vulnerable lungs. He also had an infected gash on his arm that needed to be treated immediately. His left wrist was broken though it was a clean break. But what was most concerning was the internal bleeding. Legolas had obviously been suffering from it for a while now, apparent over the blood filled vomit puddles and the blood trickling out of his mouth. The child needed medical attention, and he needed it now.

"He needs help! Now!" Elrond told his mother fearfully.

"We shall lend him some strength until we can reach the house. Hurry my son, you know what to do." Galadriel said.

Together, they both placed their hands on the elfling. Galadriel's hands were on his head and neck while Elrond's were on his chest and heart. They closed their eyes and a glow encased the three figures. Slowly, the discoloration on the child's abdomen lessened slightly and his breathing was a bit easier. They had just bought enough time to reach Imladris, where there was enough teas and herbal potions that would hopefully heal the dying child.

After making sure his son was still alive and breathing, Elrond took off his cloak and wrapped his child with it, being mindful that the child had a dangerously high fever. Then he and Galadriel slowly stood up and faced the cause of all this mess, slowly, with a fiery rage in their eyes that would've made every being on middle earth quake in fear.

Meanwhile...

While Elrond and Galadriel were tending to Legolas, Celeborn and Glorfindel were tending to the human. Only their tending wasn't soft and warm and comforting. It was one that was hell bent on revenge and filled with rage and anger. Glorfindel had the human pinned to the wall while Celeborn bent his arm.

"You are going to pay for every scratch and sob you caused him, you worthless piece of scum." Glorfindel hissed in the human's ear.

The human just laughed maniacally "Do what you want with me. Though I might have not reached my ultimate goal of killing the little elf, I still get to see Elrond and all of you elves suffer as you watch him sob and cry in pain and fear." the man replied smirking.

Celeborn bent his arm even further "Did you touch him scum?" he asked in an enraged voice, but his eyes concealed the fear of the thought. If the human had touched Legolas, they might as well have lost him.

The human's smirk vanished and his face twisted in disgust "NO! I would never touch anyone, much less a child. Hurt them, yes I would. But I do have enough morals to not do the unforgivable act." the man barked.

Glorfindel and Celeborn breathed out sighs of relief then their faces hardened once more.

"Do not think that we will let you go after what you've done. And it is not us you should be afraid of." Glorfindel snarled as he pressed the human harder against the wall.

The human just laughed harder, "And who it is that I should be so afraid of? Huh?" he asked smirking.

Just then, Elrond and Galadriel stood up slowly after tending to Legolas and faced the human. One of the warriors, who had been watching them with poorly concealed tears for the little one's pain, advanced and cradled Legolas in his arms.

Glorfindel and Celeborn winced at the look in their eyes. Both Galadriel and Elrond were calm and not easy to anger usually. But hurt one of their loved ones, and they become dangerous. Hurt their little greenleaf, and they become unstoppably dangerous.

The two advanced at the pinned human, whose smirk was wiped from his face, and his eyes betrayed the fear that he was feeling at the sight of the two advancing elves. Elrond grasped the human by his collar with both hands.

"So, you thought of revenge against a certain group of elves, who we might not be related to, and proceeded to kidnap two children who are barely the equivalent of 4 years old human boys, then brutally torture one of them while his brother watches, unable to do anything. And it so happens that the one you tortured has a weakened and vulnerable immune system and lungs that can house illnesses quickly. All that to 'avenge' the death of your son, who may or may not have been killed by elves. Is that correct?" Elrond asked calmly, but his raw rage in his eyes told a different story.

The human gulped, but squared his jaw with determination.

Elrond took that as a yes, he let go of the human, patting his arms, then grabbed him again and threw him against the wall.

"YOU HURT MY SONS!" he roared while grabbing him again and throwing him against a different wall.

"YOU HURT MY LEGOLAS. HOW DARE YOU DO THAT?" Elrond screamed at the human as he advanced on the human again only to be restrained by his father and brother.

"Elrond! Elrond! Stop it ion nin let us deal with him, go to your son. He needs you my son. He needs his ada." Celeborn said in Elrond's ear as Elrond thrashed in their arms trying to escape them and lunge against the human again.

The words had an effect on him though for he stopped fighting and dusted his tunic and leggings then turned and walked back towards his son who was still lying unconscious in the warrior's arms. The warrior in turn had his eyes blazing, having wanted to assist his lord in beating the human up.

"Hannon le Illaron." Elrond told the warrior as he took his child from the warrior's arms, and cradled him close to his heart. The warrior dipped his head with respect and replied, "Anything for you and the princes, my lord. Hannon le for doing what all us warriors have been wanting to do." his eyes flitted towards the human who was being bound by Celeborn and Glorfindel while staring in fear at Galadriel who was glowing brighter with rage with every passing second.

"Oh no. NANETH!" Elrond shouted as he realized what was happening. If Galadriel kept glowing, she could unleash a wave of extreme energy that could destroy anything around her. It couldn't kill elves, but it could injure them, but it definitely killed humans and little elflings.

Elrond's shout snapped Galadriel from her reverie, and the glow dimmed slowly as she sank to her knees, realizing that she could've killed Legolas. Glorfindel and Celeborn paused in binding the human to make sure she was alright. But that was a mistake.

The human took advantage of their hesitation and lunged for a knife on the wall and stabbed it downwards at Celeborn. Luckily, Glorfindel pushed him out of the way but the blade grazed his shoulder, leaving a thin shallow cut. The human howled then lunged again at Galadriel but she simply moved out of the way. He then lost his footing and fell to the floor, the hand that was gripping the knife turning around in an attempt to steady himself. As he fell, his body started going limp.

The elves, realizing what had happened, turned the human over and were met with a knife embedded in the human's chest.

Despite his pain, the human laughed, blood staining his teeth "I win and you lose." he said as more blood came up.

Glorfindel sneered at him "No, Legolas will live, and he will be okay, exactly the opposite of what you set out to do."

The human's face contorted in anger then he ground out "He might live, but he will not be alright for a long time."

"What do you mean scum?" Celeborn snapped.

"It means I gave him water laced with a poison. One that does not show its effects until a few weeks later." The human said smirking as he coughed up more blood.

The blood drained from all the elves' faces, and Elrond clutched Legolas closer to him.

"What do you mean poison?" Galadriel hissed.

The human's expression soured "No, it will not kill him. But it will make him very sick for a while. Extremely sick." He said, as his expression brightened up at the thought of bringing the elfling and his elvish family more pain and suffering.

"Where is the cure?" Glorfindel said while shaking the human.

"There is none. The poison wears off about two weeks after its effects start taking place. If he survives the sickness brought upon him, then he will live. If not, and I hope it is the case, then you better start building his casket." the human said as he started choking on his blood.

"You disgust me." Glorfindel said as he let go of the human, and they all watched as the human took his last breath and stilled.

"Is he dead?" Illaron, the warrior, asked while looking at the body with disgust.

"Aye. He will never harm anyone again. Illaron you and your warriors should take care of the body then follow us." Glorfindel said as the elves got up from where they were kneeling next to the body.

The warriors bowed their heads in agreement, "We will my lord, but saes, make haste to Imladris and don't let our little leaf go to Mandos's halls for we will lose his twin as well, sure as day.

" Do not worry Illaron, Legolas and Estel will be begging you for your archery tricks in no time. " Elrond said as he held his son closer to him, and checked the status of his fever, then felt the blood drain from his face.

The fever was high, very high, a few degrees more and they would be in seizure territory and he would die.

"Come, we must hurry back." Elrond said as he produced a small vial that contained a tea that had anti seizure and fever reducing properties from his tunic pocket. Carefully, he trickled it down the little elfling's throat, making sure he swallowed, then ran to his horse down the hill as did the others.

They were in a race to save their little leaf's life.
