Neji and Hinata were on and off until a few years after they graduated college. Hinata checked one night online to see if marriage might be an option for known first cousins in the US. It varied, and she didn't want to move again. She considered Japan. They had family there. She discovered how strict Japanese laws were. First cousins in their home state, however, could live together and have sex. So Neji and Hinata did. They updated their wills to include one another prominently, and drew up powers of attorney. That was that. Neji and Hinata attempted to tell both sets of their parents it was for financial reasons. "Sasuke's the professional actor, not you," Neji's dad sighed. Sasuke had wanted to become a psychiatrist. Shrinks were trained as doctors first, and he was too squeamish for that. He didn't get into grad school, but had developed a successful acting career instead.
Neji still barely spoke to his parents. Hinata's parents talked a lot to him instead. It was easier that way for everyone. Hinata had prepared herself for a lot more drama from everyone about everything. Everyone was either very private about how they viewed Hinata and Neji together romantically, or they had figured it out awhile ago and were fine with it. The worst drama involved when Hinata and Neji didn't show up together, as a unit, to family events sometimes. Hinata traveled for work, singing for movie scores. Neji was fine not going with her, but talked to her every night. He was a film critic and watched a lot of movies for his job. Hinata was glad not to go. Lately, movies hadn't really been interesting to her. They watched the movies whose soundtracks she'd provided vocals for, though.
They never wound up having kids, but fostered rescue dogs regularly. And they were okay with that.
