Lacey was late opening the store today. It didn't really matter though, as all their elderly customers didn't come in till around 2pm, after the lunchtime rush. As Lacey brought out the sweet shop sign, she noticed the same guy from yesterday, but this time he was handing out samples of sweets. That bastard. He hadn't listened to her one bit. He was definitely doing this to provoke her. This was an act of war.
"We have all sorts, from your classic wizarding favourites to some very new and delicious recipes! All made by myself in this very store!" He beamed from ear to ear, grinning at the crowd forming around him. She could tell he was loving all the attention he got from this.
It took everything in her not to just pull out her wand and hex him right there, but she wouldn't - at least not in front of the children. She watched him from the other side of the road until the crowd slowly disappeared into the shop. Once they were all inside, she decided she would say something, give him a piece of her mind yet again.
"Oi!" She shouted whilst crossing the road, not caring if there were any cars coming. "Oi!" She shouted again.
The man looked extremely confused. "Do you want to try-"
"No, I do not want to try any of your crappy sweets!" She yelled at him. She felt her heart rate increase, she was already losing her temper with him.
"Hey that isn't-"
"I told you yesterday to stop, and here you are handing them out, fucking advertising them to the entire town!" She couldn't believe the audacity this man had. She had met street rats with more respect than him.
"I don't know what you're on about." He chuckled, packing his things away into a brown briefcase who the fuck puts sweets away in a briefcase? She knew he must have been one of those kids that could spend their parent's money on new ventures whenever they liked.
"You're really a heartless prick," She spat, she couldn't stand the sight of him. He was such a big-headed twat. Who opens a store and plasters their face all over it? "You need to stop-"
"What?" He laughed. "I'm sorry but I do not know who you are, but you're a little feisty, aren't you?" He smirked down at her. The height difference was quite a large one. He was at least a whole foot taller than her. The height difference didn't intimate her. She was sure she'd be able to take him.
"Feisty?" She scoffed. "I will fucking show you feisty." She reached down into her boot and pulled her wand out. He watched closely as she did, slowly stepping back.
"Hey, hey I don't want any trouble. You must have spoken to George, my brother." He took another larger step backwards and held his hands up.
"No, I'm pretty sure it was you." She glared at him for a moment, taking in his features. She tilted her head back slightly to get a better look. He was definitely the same man she had spoken to yesterday. Did he really think she was that stupid?
"No, I have a twin. We're identical."
"Fuck off," She scoffed. "Do you really take me for an idiot? Get off your high horse, mate. You're exactly what I hate, pretentious, stuck up, big-headed, attractive, er- weirdo!" Lacey huffed, not thinking before she spoke. It all just came out. She instantly regretted calling him attractive; Lacey knew it would just go to his massive head. She couldn't control herself when she got riled up.
He let out a soft chuckle. He was far too calm for Lacey's liking. "So you think I'm attractive?" He smirked. It took every bone in her body not to walk over to him and slap that bloody smirk off his face.
"Ugh! Of course that's the only thing you heard!" She yelled, frustrated he wasn't taking her seriously. "You need to stop selling these now! I have told you once before and if I am to come over here yet again to tell you, it won't be as nice as this." She gave him a fake smile before storming back to her dad's shop.
"This was nice?" He laughed, shouting over to her. She felt his eyes glaring at the back of her head again, but this time she turned around and held her middle fingers up at him.
"Lacey? What are you doing?" Chris chuckled, watching a distressed Lacey storm into the shop. He was very used to seeing her like this. Lacey had a little temper issue. She let people get under her skin too much. She was trying her best to work on it. Unfortunately for her, the newbie knew exactly how to push her buttons.
"Ugh, that stupid idiot across the road is out there giving out free samples now." She groaned, placing her apron over her head.
"Shit, so they're still selling sweets?" Chris glanced over the road, staring at the tall ginger picking up his table and taking it into his shop.
"Yes, Chris! They are still selling sweets!" She groaned, walking into the back of the shop. Chris followed her closely behind. He was going to try his best to calm her down, as he always did. That was one reason Lacey's dad, John, kept him around. That and he was a very close family friend. Her dad couldn't just fire him. He helped a lot around the store with Lacey, baking and even finances. He was the reason they were still open. Not that they'd be open for much longer.
