Third person POV.
Over the next 2 weeks life for Eddie has been crazy with the squad class, moving to his new house after Matt said that everything is great and nothing needed to be fixed, but the best thing about the two weeks is Chris coming home. It was arranged by the CFD for Buck and Eddie to take a weekend off to fly to L.A to pick up Chris and say goodbye to everyone properly. Bobby was holding his 118 bbq, what Eddie didn't know until I got to the airport with Buck was they were not going alone, no Kelly, Matt and Shay organised for the Hermans to look after the kids so Kelly can see Maddie again. Eddie wanted Sylvie to come but being the amazing person that she said no it will be too much for Chris and didn't want to overwhelm him they will meet when he gets to chicago. Bucks big surprise was when Jay got Hank to look after the twins for the weekend. Jay wanted to see Maddie again and it will be the only time off he will have with Buck this week. You could tell Jay was nervous though.
Evans POV:
Once we were all aboard the plane I was seated next to Jay which I was happy about. I could tell Jay was nervous though.
"It's your first time leaving the twins isn't it?" I asked, knowing that look on Jay's face.
He nods then says."I haven't left Chicago since they were born, they've spent nights away before but I have always been a phone call away." He explained and I nod then take his hand.
"It'll be okay, they are with Hank, everything will be okay." I say trying to reassure him.
"I know it's just hard." He says, I nod, I can't imagine what it must be like for him.
I still haven't met Lexie and Noah yet our schedules just wouldn't have it these past two weeks so I ask. "When we get back, if you want, before we go back to work do you want me to meet the kids?"
He has a bright smile on his face at that thought and nods "I'd love that! I've been telling them about you." Jay says and I'm shocked
"What have you been saying?" I ask.
"Well I've been saying that daddy has a friend from a long time ago that left for a bit but is back now, and he means so much to me." Jay explains
"Awe, thank you. I appreciate that." I tell him
"Well, I'm not going into the whole sexuality conversation with two year olds so I thought this would work." He says and we both chuckle.
"True enough, and it's fine!" I tell him as he leans over and kisses me, tenderly.
"What's that for?" I ask
"Because I haven't got a chance to kiss you in the last day and a half so I need to kiss you now." He tells me and I smile then say. "I love you Jay."
"I love you Ev." He says right back to me.
Just then Kelly, who's sitting in the row beside us looks at us and says. "You guys are too cute," I roll my eyes at my brother and Jay blushes.
"Thanks, so Shay, why didn't Emma come?" I ask to try to get the attention off Jay and I, shay pokes her head around from the seats in front of us where she's sitting next to Eddie.
"She had to work, she had a bunch of babies due this weekend so she had to stay behind. I guess that's what I get for marrying one of the best OB GYNS in Chicago." Shay says with a sigh.
"I'm sorry, that must suck." I say and she nods, then goes to sit back properly in her seat.
"So I was thinking." Jay says as everyone goes back to their own conversations. "Why don't we start looking into moving in together? I'm in the market for a new place anyways as I want a yard for Noah and Lexie, so what do you think? We look at places together?" He says with a shy smile. "I'd love to." I simply say and he smiles, then says. "Really? I figured I was moving too fast." Jay says. "Nope, we already agreed on just picking up where we left off so I think this is long overdue but if the twins don't agree then we hold off I'm not going to come between the 3 of you." I explained.
Next thing I know Jay is kissing me again. "What's that for?" I asked
"Because you're looking out for the twins I couldn't imagine a better boyfriend but then I just kept seeing you." Jay tells me. "Okay, maybe Matt can help us find a place." Jay asks, looking over at Matt who is in a deep conversation with Kelly.
Just when the captain told us we are about to land in L.A and hope we enjoyed our fight. I guess now it's my turn to get nervous I don't really know how to say goodbye to Maddie
Eddie POV:
Walking off the plane I can't help but look around Shay next to me and I'm glad because if she wasn't I would be running just to try and be the first one off. It's been 2 weeks since I have seen Chris and there he is with big smiles and all.
Once I'm off the plane and I see Chris I run to him as he's coming to me, and embrace him in a big hug.
"I've missed you kiddo." I tell him
"I missed you, dad." Chris says and then starts getting shy as everyone from Chicago starts to come around us.
"Chris this is Bucks brother Kelly and his husband Matt and their best friend Shay and this is Bucks boyfriend Jay, I work with Kelly and Matt and Shay. Don't be confused if people call Buck. Evan ok Buck is just our name for him." I explained to Chris everyone as they got off the plane.
"Hey Superman how's it going, did you miss me?" Buck asked I can never get over how quickly they become friends. It really was in that 20 minute car ride after the earthquake.
"Hi buck, I did miss you." Chris says as he hugs Buck.
"What about me?" I hear Maddie say as Buck and Kelly run over to her. I don't Evan know how long it has been since Kelly has seen her.
Evans pov:
I rush over to Maddie with Kelly at my side, we each engulf her in a hug.
"I wasn't expecting you to come here with Evan." Maddie says as she hugs Kelly, they haven't seen each other since Andy was born.
"Thought I'd come and see you." Kelly says as he steps back.
"Well I'm happy you did, hi Matt, Shay and Jay." Maddie says as she notices the other three and raises an eyebrow at me when she sees Jay, and I just shrug her off.
"Hi Maddie." Jay says and hugs her. It's been awhile since they saw each other. It was before he left for the army.
"I didn't know you were back." Maddie says, still looking at me.
"I'm guessing Evan hasn't told you a lot then." Jay says chuckling.
"Apparently not." Maddie says and I chuckle.
"We should head out now though we don't have much time before Bobby's BBQ." I said and everyone agreed with me as I took Jay's hand.
"So why haven't you told Maddie about us?" Jay asks concerned.
"It's not because of the reasons you're thinking, it's simply because I haven't really talked to her since I left for Chicago." I tell him and he nods.
"Okay I understand that." Jay says as we get into the car with Maddie, Kelly, Matt as
Carla was waiting for Chris and Eddie, and Shay, as shays going to be staying at Eddies as Matt and Kelly will be staying with Maddie.
"Okay so I'll drop Evan and Jay off at his place and Kelly and Matt you'll come back to mine and chimneys place." Maddie says and we all nod.
The drive is short, and Maddies asks Matt and Kelly about Lizzie and Andy, as she's never met Lizzie and only saw Andy when he was born.
Maddie drops Jay and I off at my loft and we tell them we will see them later and Bobby and Athenas then head up to my place.
Once we were inside of my apartment I asked Jay "So wanna grab some pizza as we have a good 5 hours before Bobby and Athenas?" And he nods
"Okay I'll order" I tell him "Okay I'm gonna grab a quick shower." Jay says and I nod
I putter around until I hear the pizza guy knock on the door. I go to my wallet then remember I don't have any cash on me, I yell up to Jay who I hear just got out of the shower I say "I have no cash." "I do just take it out of my wallet it's on the counter.'' Jay says and I got to grab some cash and that's when I see it, his military ID with the big bold word Active on it. I make a mental note to go back to that and go pay for the pizza.
Jays POV
I head down the steps from the bedroom when I see Evan with my military ID in hand after he's paid for the pizza. I mentally curse, and say. "Shit Evan I'm sorry, I just haven't found a good enough time to tell you yet, and I didnt want to ruin thing, and I know that I should of said something and I'm sorry, but I guess I was scared I lost you then I lost Erin I just couldn't bear the thought of you leaving again. I'm actually seeing Dr Charles about my abandonment issues." I start rambling. I can see Evan sigh and then he turns towards me. I can see tears in his eyes, and I'm right by his side in an instant. I am terrified this is the end for us.
"I'm so sorry baby, plese, we can get through this." I say and he nods and kisses me, which takes me by surprise.
When we pull apart he says "I'm not crying because I want to leave, I'm crying because you felt like you had to keep it from me and that's my fault." He says and I sigh, a sigh of relief.
"Oh Ev, I love you, I should have told you, but I just couldn't stand to lose you again." I tell him
"Your not, I promise you that, I'm here for you and the twins forever.'' Evan says and the next thing I know he's down on one knee, and I gasp.
"I don't want to ever be apart from you again, the last 4 years were hell with you out, and these past two weeks has spoiled me. I want you by my side forever Jay, will you marry me?" He asks and I nod, saying. "Yes! Of course I will." "good." Evan says and then he quickly goes up to his room. . I can see that he grabs something out of his underwear drawer and then comes back down, he takes my left hand then slips a ring onto it. "I love you Ev,'' I tell him, I just can't get enough of telling him how much I love him.
"I love you too Jay." Evan says,
"You just had a ring the right size fit for me." I tease him. Evan blushes. "So when I got the tattoo Kelly was with me and I saw it in the window and knew it would be perfect for you. Sorry it took me this long to give it to you." He says and I'm shocked. "You held onto this ring for the last four and a half years?" I ask I'm completely stunned
"I hoped that one day we'd find our way back together and I'd be able to give it to you." He says as he starts kissing my neck, and I moan, I want him so badly right now.
He takes my shirt off and I take his off, as he backs me up towards the living room, towards the couch.
"I'm never going anywhere, ever again I promise you that." Evan says between kisses, he grinds into me and I smile "Neither am I, babe, neither am I." I tell him
Once we reach the couch he pushes me back onto it, he unzips my pants, then pulls my boxers and jeans down. He takes me in his mouth and I gasp.
He swirls his tongue around my slit, and he sucks me hard as he massages my balls. "Fuck, babe, I'm not going to last long." I tell him, he pumps and sucks me then when he knows I'm close he takes me all the way into the back of his throat and swallows. Hard. I come, crying out his name "Evan , babe, fuck." I say as I'm coming down from my high.
He sits up beside me and when I reach for him he swats my hand away saying "I wanted to spoil you this time, you can do me tonight." He then adds "I just wanna cuddle now." I nod then say. "How did I get so lucky to have you?"
"I wonder about that to then think how did I get lucky enough to have you, all the time." He tells me to kiss me tenderly.
I lay my head on his shoulder and trace my dog tags on his pec. I still can't believe he got that done.
"You have no idea how much it means to me that you got this tattoo for me." I told him.
"I'm glad you like it. You're my everything Jay, and I want the world to know it, always have, was just too scared before." He says kissing my forehead.
"I want the world to know your home, always have been always will be." I tell him
He smiles at me then looks at the time on his phone, the afternoon is just flying by. "We better get ready to go to Bobbys and Athenas." he says and I nod.
We get up and get ready to go to the BBQ. I'm nervous to meet everyone here in L.A, I'm worried that they'll think we are moving too fast.
"Are we going to tell everyone we are engaged?" I ask as we get into Evan's old jeep that Maddie is going to be selling him.
"I want to, if you don't mind." He says and I nod, "I'd like that." I told him.
We arrive at Bobby's and Athenas and it looks like we are the second ones there, as Eddie is already there.
Evan knocks on the door and he's greeted by a woman.
"Buckeroo, it's so good to see you." The woman says bringing him in for a hug.
"It's good to see you too, Athena, this is my fiance, detective Jay Halstead with the CPD." Evan says proudly and I go to shake Athena's hand but she brings me into a hug too. "Athena is a sergeant with the LAPD." Evan tells me
"Come in you too." Athena says.
I can see Eddie, Chris and Shay talking with a younger woman and three men.
"So buck leaves for two weeks and gets engaged." Athena announces. And Shay squeals.
"So you finally gave him that ring you've been holding on to for the last 4 and a half years, huh?" She said, hugging each of us. "How did you- wait Kelly told you didn't he?" Evan says. "Of course he did, he also told me about your tattoo." Shay says, shrugging her shoulders.
"Can't have any secrets." Evan grumbles and I laugh."Congratulations you two." Eddie says, shaking my hand then Evan's.
"Wait, this just happened?" Athena asks, "Yeah, about three hours ago." Evan states.
"Okay so I'm going to need some information here." Athena says.
"Okay, just wait though Maddie doesn't know everything either so wait tell them they get here." Evan says and the middle aged woman nods. "Jay this is Captain Bobby Nash, Michael, and his boyfriend David, and Michael and Athen's daughter May and their son Harry.'' Evan introduces me to everyone there so far. "Nice to meet you guys.'' I say shaking everyone's hands. "Are you a firefighter as well?" Bobby asks "No, I'm a detective in a specialized unit in the CPD called intelligence, and I'm with the army rangers.'' I will explain. "You're still active?" Eddie asks and I nod, I see him raise an eyebrow at Evan who just shrugs him off.
"How long have you been in the military?" Michael asks.
"11 years, since I was 19." I told him.
"How long have you been with the CPD?" Athena asks. "About 3 years." I told her.
"So how do you and Buck know each other?" Bobby asks.
"We grew up around the corner from each other, my older brother and Maddie are the same age so they were best friends, and Evan and I are only two years apart, so we were good friends until high school when we started dating." I explained.
"So this isn't the first time you've been together?" Athena asks and we both shake our heads as more people start to arrive.
Maddie and her boyfriends whose name is apparently Chimney, and Kelly, Matt, and Hen, her wife Karen and their son Denny come all at once.
"So, what have we missed?" Maddie asks as she accepts a glass of wine from Athena.
"Buckeroo is engaged." Athena says and Evan sighs, as Kelly claps him on the back "Only took you 4 and a half years." Kelly says chuckling.
"Yea, yea." Evan says, rolling his eyes.
"Wait, this just happened?" Maddie asks and I nod as she hugs me "Well welcome to the family, I have way too many brothers now, Katie and I are so outnumbered." Maddie says and we all chuckle.
"Thanks Mads, so have you talked to Will lately?" I ask as Evan introduces Kelly and Matt to everyone.
"No, why?" she asks curiously.
"Well I was just wondering if you knew he and Connor got married last year?" I ask "No I didn't , good for them , they were always good together." She says
"Yea they are in the process of adopting a little 3 year old girl." I told her.
"Oh that's wonderful, Kelly might've let it slip that you have twins by the way." she casually throws in there and I sigh, "Yeah I do, Noah and Alexis." I tell her
"Cute, he also said that Erin was their bio mom." She says
"Yea, that's a long story." I tell her
"I can imagine." She then adds "Has Evan met them?"
"No, our schedules haven't wanted to align very much these past two weeks." I say
"He's going to meet them tomorrow though." I add. "Good, I'm happy for you both, he was a mess without you, he won't willing admit it, at least not to me, but he regrets ending things with you." She says "I know he told me he did." I say.
"Well, I'm just glad you guys found your way back to each other." She says.
Just then it's time to eat, Shay, Hen and Karen are talking up a storm, Hen and Shay bonding over being paramedics. Kelly and Chimney talk, and Michael and Matt get along, since they are both contractors and I talk with athena.
Before we know it's time to go and Evan and Eddie say goodbye to their old lives with the promises of keeping in touch. Chris says goodbye to Denny , and everyone, I can see the little boy is sad, and I feel bad for the kid, according to Evan they had just moved here and now they were moving again.
We head back to the loft and pack everything then head to bed.
Jay POV:
These last 2 days have been a roller coaster of emotions. Getting to the airport with everyone was just as hard as poor Chris hates it. As soon as we got to the checkout that's when things got hard. First poor Chris had to put his churches to be checked in so he had to be helped by his dad because he refused to sit in a wheelchair. Seeing that I know what I had to do, he only hopes it doesn't push Evan away again.
I go and show the check in lady my military ID, and I can just see Evan thinking I hope he's not mad that I'm offering to help Chris I know he would do it if he could, but because I'm still active I can get on the plane after Eddie and Chris this gives me a opportunity to help Eddie and Chris with there bags and carry on.
I look behind me looking at Evan thinking I was going to see an angry boyfriend as I feel like I'm overstepping with Chris but instead I see Evan with a big smile and that is a moment I know he's here to stay and I can't wait to see him with the Twins.
After finally getting through security, we decided to get lunch before our plane.
"Hey Chris I know this is a big move and you're going to miss everyone here but there was one thing your Buck used to tell me." I say as I sat next to a sad looking boy. "This isn't goodbye."
"It's see you soon." Evan finished for me with a kiss on the cheek.
"And you will, we will be back for Christmas and everyone will be coming to see us as well." Eddie jumped in as he placed Chris' lunch in front of him.
It was finally time to get on the plane and I can see Eddie getting up trying to hold everything for him and Chris as well as trying to help Chris walk on the plane. I squeeze Evan's hand and I jump up and head towards Eddie. "Here let me get your bags?" I ask Eddie as he gives me a look.
"No I'm ok I need them all with me right away." Eddie replied. "It's ok I'm right behind you I'm still an active service person I just don't like jumping the line, but I thought you might need help." I told him Eddie nods letting me know it's ok to help.
"Hey Buck your man is a keeper if you don't I will." I hear Eddie yell to Evan
"The 1200 flight to Chicago please make your way to the gate. We are now seating, priority seating first this includes those with a disability and active duty personnel." I kiss Eve and walk behind Eddie helping.
Evan POV:
"Did you know he was going to do that?" Matt asked as we waited for our turn to head on to the plane. "Did you know he is still active?" Kelly asked with a concerned look. "Yeah, he told me this weekend. I'm ok guys it's better this time I'm 100% all in this time."
I can see the skeptic look on my brother face and I sigh "I love him, I can't live without him again, we will make things work, don't worry so much Kel." I tell him
"I'm just worried for you, I won't be so nice this time around to Jay, if your broken heart again." Kelly says "I'll be fine, because we are staying together." I tell him and he nods. "Besides, you will miss the twins too much, you big softy."
"He's got you there Kelly, you even bought them matching Cubs jerseys to ours." Matt jumped in with a kiss on Kelly's cheek.
We board the plane and I sit next to Jay and say "Thank you for helping them, that meant a lot to me." I tell him then kiss him.
"No problem." He says.
We chat for a bit and decide to get married as soon as possible, and just talking in general the flight goes by fast, the next thing we know we are in chicago, and the rest of our lives start.
