The year was 2001. In two days Mollie and Nick were graduating from Berkeley in California. Mollie had gotten a nursing degree and had a job waiting for her at a hospital in Missouri. Nick decided to go into advertising and also had a job waiting for him in Missouri. Unbeknownst to their parents, Mollie and Nick had been living together for the last year. Randy had went in the Marines right after high school but that didn't work out. He decided to become a professional wrestler and was waiting for the big call-up. It was around ten o'clock at night. Mollie was home but Nick wasn't. The phone rang.

"Hello?" She said.

"Hi" Nick said.

"Hi." "When are you coming home?"

"That's why I'm calling, I'm gonna be late tonight." "So don't stay up and wait for me, ok?"

"Ok." "Are you and the guys having fun?"

"Yeah." "Make sure you lock the bolt lock."

"I will."

"I'll see you in the morning." "I love you Mollie."

"I love you too Nick." "Bye."

"Bye." They hung up.

Nick was in a nightclub bathroom. He left and went up to a blonde girl at the bar.

"Ready?" She asked.

"Yeah." They left together.

Three days later Mollie and Nick were having a dual graduation party at Nick's parents house. Everyone was in the backyard. It was a big catered party. There was a stage and a DJ. Randy had just showed up. He hadn't seen anyone in his family since Thanksgiving.

"Hey man." Nick said.

"Hey." Randy said. They hugged. "Moll." He said

"Hi Randy." Mollie said. They hugged. "How's your girlfriend?"

"That's over."

"I'm sorry." "I know you have bad luck with girlfriends."

"Yeah."

An hour later the music suddenly stopped. Everyone looked up and saw Nick onstage.

"Hi everyone." Nick said into the microphone. "Mollie, I have a graduation present for you." "Please come up here." She went up onstage. "You've been part of our family for so long now." "I think it's time we make it official."

"No, I don't want to be here for this." Randy thought.

Nick took a box out of his pocket and got down on one knee. He opened the box.

"Mollie, I love you so much." Nick said. "Will you marry me?"

"Yes." She said tearfully. He put the ring on her finger. They kissed. Everyone applauded. Everyone except for Randy who was completely heartbroken but no one noticed.
