Sana leads Kento from their central entryway of the new house to a private corridor. She glanced back to make sure he still followed. "Coming?"
"I don't see why you want me to follow you through some hidden part of this place," Kento grumbled as he followed unwillingly.
"This place, my dear husband, is our new home. Since I highly doubt your friends would be welcoming to us moving in together at the manor. I had arrangements executed while we were having our ceremony." Sana answered as she continued through the passageway.
'Can't say I blame them,' Kento mused to himself as he glanced around. He was attempting to figure out why this part of the house was underground. What was she concealing? The only way he was going to figure it out was to stay with her. 'This passage has no windows, no other doors I can see. It doesn't mean there wouldn't be some hidden ones. It's narrow enough for one person to go through at a time.'
"Since we had a quick marriage, I didn't have time to find a wedding gift for you. But I think you'll like what I did find." Sana said as she snapped him out of his thoughts.
"You didn't have to. I got nothing for you," Kento responded in a snarky tone.
Sana gave a menacing smirk as she glanced back at him, "Don't worry about it. I'm sure I'll be able to think of something. We have arrived."
Kento raised a brow. He didn't understand why she brought him to a dead end. Until a small access panel opened and exposed a keyboard. He saw her glance behind before she keyed in her identification. The door unlocked and unveiled before them was a giant room with surveillance stations set up in different areas. The station on the left showed a live feed of his family at their homes and the restaurant. The middle station showed a live feed of the Koji Manor from every level. The last one on the right showed a live feed of Kaye in a room laying on what looked like some altar, not moving.
"Well, what do you think? Do you like your wedding present?" Sana asked as she saw Kento whirl around and rushed her. She felt him pin her hard against the wall. Sana laughed, not phased by his rage. "What's the matter? Was it a little much?"
Kento snarled low in his throat as he tightened his grip around her, "You bitch! Did you watch them this whole time? What the hell?! You said you would call off the hit on my family and friends if I agreed to marry you, and I have. So why are you still watching them, and what did you do to Kaye? Where is she?"
An evil laugh erupted from her. A deadly glint went off in her eyes. "I gave you my word the hit on them was off after we were married. But it didn't mean I wouldn't keep them under surveillance." Sana raised her hand and placed it on top of Kento's." Regarding your angel, she's still alive, merely in a type of suspended animation related to the one you and your friends were in when you fought Talpa for the first time."
Kento's eyes went wide in astonishment as he let go of her. "How? How did you know about Talpa?"
Sana rubbed her throat, watching him in amusement. "I do my research. I had my hackers go through your friend's computer and find all the information about you and your colleagues. The legend of the Ronin Warriors is quite captivating. Has it ever occurred to you why I preferred you to be my husband? It was because you're the most powerful out of all of your little team. Kento, you have much more power than even you realize. More so even than when Ryo calls upon the Inferno armor."
Kento shook his head, "No. It can't be! You're crazy!"
"Am I? Think about it for a moment. You can undoubtedly take down way more enemies on your own than what your friends can when you all fight together."
Kento turned his back on Sana and walked to each station in turn. He first went to the one on the left and saw his family. He felt his heart clench when he proceeded to watch them. Kento realized he was the one who put them in this situation. It was him who put his family in danger. It was all his fault.
Kento then moved onto the station in the middle and saw his friends at the manor. The guilt he started to feel was intensifying more and more with each monitor he followed.
When he moved to the final station, he reached towards the screen and rested his hand on it. 'Kaye...I'm so sorry, my angel, I didn't mean to hurt you like this. I'll make it up to you. I promise. I'll make this bitch pay.' Kento kept his eyes on the screen, "What do you want me to do?"
A dangerous smile creased her lips as she walked towards him. "Now you understand why I took the precautions I did. For your present to me, I would like for you to be my faithful and obedient husband. Do what I say when I say. As long as you do, your cherished angel will stay unharmed. Otherwise, I'd hate to see what might happen if you refuse."
"So Kaye is what? Some kind of insurance policy so you'd be able to keep your control over me?"
Sana laughed, "My, you are a smart one. Yes, she is what you said. I'm not going to tell you her location. I'm not ignorant. Likewise, I know you'd try to get her out of there and hide her somewhere else."
Kento kept one hand on the monitor and a tight fist with his other hand. His eyes still viewing the feed of Kaye. "Let me guess since you're the one or one of the fighters who put Kaye in this suspended animation. To where only you can wake her up from it."
"Correct again, my husband. I'm not going to tell you how to wake her either. A woman has to keep her mysteries. Ah, speaking of secrets, I also have this," Sana said as she reached into her top and pulled out a chain which had Kaye's kanji orb on it and held it to the side of Kento's eye level.
Kento whirled around to face her. His eyes narrowed, "Give it to me!"
"I don't think so. I'm going to keep it. Your angel won't require this anytime soon." Sana put it back on and shoved it back inside her top. "Oh, there is an extra thing I should mention. Even though Kaye is in suspended animation, she can still hear you. She won't be able to respond. So I'll allow you to talk to her whenever you desire. Just as long as I know, you're going to. When you proved to me, I can trust you. I'll give you my security clearance to the surveillance room. Until then, I'll have someone else who has the authorization to accompany you."
"How can I talk to her if you won't tell me her location?" Kento shot back furiously.
Sana walked to the system and showed him, "There is an intercom button you press. You can talk to her through here. So, do I have your undying loyalty?"
Kento looked over towards the monitor with his family. Then moved to the one with his friends, and at last to the one with Kaye on it. He kept his eyes on her. "Yes. I'll be your loyal husband."
Sana nodded, "Good, I'll leave you here for a while. Then when you're finished. Meet me in the living room. When you want out, push the intercom button next to the door, and I'll open it remotely. I have cameras watching this room as well. The feed from this room goes to my cell. So when you're in here alone, I'll be able to keep an eye on you." She leaned in and kissed him on his cheek and then strolled out of the room.
Kento heard the metal door shut. He wiped his face in disgust and then dropped to the middle of the floor. He buried his face in his hands as he felt the start of tears beginning to flow from the corner of his eyes. For the first time in his life, Kento felt helpless. Not ever during the whole time, he and the others faced off against Talpa and the Warlords. Not to mention, the other villains they had in the past made him feel this way. It terrified him more than he ever imagined.
'How could I have let this happen? I don't understand. I'm such a fool. I shouldn't have agreed to go on the training trip to China. Now because of my pride, the people I care about are at risk. If I refuse what she says, she'll make them pay for my stubbornness. I hope one day they'll forgive me.'
Kento wiped his eyes with the back of his hand and pushed himself up from the floor. He walked to the station where his parents and siblings sat down and were having the family dinner. A small smile came to his face when he watched. 'At least they're safe.'
He then moved to the monitor in the middle, where it showed his friends at the Koji Manor. Kento could see Cye sitting on the edge of the dock with his knees drawn up, and he was resting his chin on them. His eyes gave a far-off look. It has been a long time since he has seen his best friend so depressed. Kento felt his heart tighten. He wanted so much to tell Cye about everything. Why he did what he did, where Kaye's prison located, well, Kento would if he knew. Then he saw Ryo watching Cye from the back porch. He could see Ryo was kicking himself too. He's their leader. Ryo vowed a long time ago, against all odds, they would stay together and watch one another's backs. They were a family. He looked at the next screen and saw Rowen and Sage discussing something. Kento couldn't hear what they were saying. 'Huh, so the main communication is in this room and Kaye's. I suppose it would be hard for them to listen in on everyone at the same time.'
At last, he made his way to the screen showed Kaye. He felt his heart constrict. 'I don't know how many times I can apologize to you, my angel. But I will atone as long as it takes for you to forgive me. At least, I hope you will. I should have brought you with me to China or haven't gone at all. Then you wouldn't be in this mess. I never meant to hurt you the way I did. I wish there is a way I could have warned you and the others of what was happening.'
Kento had no idea how much time passed, but he figured Sana would try and contact him, inquiring how much longer. He walked to the door and glanced back one more time. Kento turned his attention to the intercom and pressed the button. "Sana..."
"Yes, Kento?"
'Is the bitch going to make me beg her to open the doorway?' He cleared his throat, "Would you open the door?"
Sana smirked, "What do you say?"
"Sana, would you please open the door?"
"Much better," Sana replied as she hit the button on her cell to open the door.
The door whooshed shut as soon as he passed through the doorway. He walked through the corridor until he made his way to the living room, where he saw Sana waiting for him. He stood in front of her waiting to hear what she wanted to say.
"I'll take you on a tour of our new home. I think you'll be impressed by how huge it is. The grounds are spectacular. The rooms are large enough to house a few Olympic-size pools." Sana started to explain as she hooked her arm with Kento's as she leads the way.
Kento took in every door and window. He saw there were at least three floors. It did not count, of course, the hidden underground corridor from the living room. There were two restaurant-sized kitchens towards the back on the main floor. The living room was the center point of the mansion. Most of the interior doors on the main floor looked like they were the French door kind Mia mentioned a long time ago. The garage was off to the far side of the mansion. He couldn't see how many cars were inside, but he figured there were many. 'Where did she get the money for all of this anyway? From her past assassinations as payments? Did her followers steal from the people they killed? I wouldn't put it past her possibly both.'
"How have you been enjoying the tour so far, my husband?" Sana inquired as she glanced at him from the corner of her eye.
"Fine," Kento replied as cold as he could. He didn't want to show her he was impressed by how fancy it was. It wouldn't be right for him to enjoy a place like this. Besides, most of the decor seemed gaudy to him anyway.
"You know, I just had a thought. Why don't we have an open house? We can invite your family and friends. Plus, some of mine." Sana suggested as they walked the second floor.
Kento raised a brow towards her. He didn't expect a suggestion like this from her at all. "I don't know if they'll come."
"It won't hurt to send them anyway right," Sana replied, a bit more insistent.
Kento shrugged, "I guess it wouldn't hurt. But don't expect too much. They're still angry with me about our marriage. You know."
"They'll get over it in time. I'll send the invitations out when finished with the tour." Sana replied as she continued to show Kento the rest of the place. The second floor was mainly for guests and the main master bedroom. The third floor was for training rooms. On the roof was a helicopter pad. This place had everything, even security cameras.
'For an assassin, Sana is paranoid about security.' Kento thought as they were making their way back to the main floor.
"Why don't you lay down in our bedroom Kento? I'll get to work on the invitations." Sana suggested as she leaned in and kissed Kento on the cheek. She unlocked her arm from Kento's and watched him go to the bedroom.
