Mr. Rei Faun shot Kento a disgruntled look. "Never in my life have I ever seen the day I would be disappointed in my son? To Marry a stranger when he promised his heart to another."
Kento narrowed his eyes at him, "I knew you'd react this way. But Sana wanted to smooth things over with the family. She was the one who convinced me to talk with you and Ma regarding this. Uncle Shen accepted our Marriage. So why not you and the others?" Kento turned his back on his Parents. 'Gomen... I hope my meaning came across to you, Pa. I can't arouse Sana's suspicions. Forgive me.'
"Kento! Wait! Don't go!" Ma Rei Faun yelled out to him. "Have you heard from Kaye? It's been a week, and we haven't heard from her. Neither have your friends."
"No, Ma, I haven't heard from her. Why would I? Especially after what I did. " Kento answered as his body became tense. He clenched his fists. 'Damn you, Sana. How dare you put me in this type of situation? I swear you'll Pay.'
"Let him go. He's no longer welcome here."
"But, he's our son. How could you turn your back on him?"
"Because of what he caused. He dishonored the Rei Faun name. He is no longer our son."
When Kento heard those words, he cringed on the inside. His family and friends were the most precious people in his life. But to listen to those words from his father broke his heart. He stood in the doorway and threw a glance back, "Don't worry, I won't be coming back here ever. Sayonara."
Mrs. Rei Faun shouted out to her son once more as she watched him storm out of their restaurant. She spun around and glared at her husband. "How could you?"
"He was the one who brought dishonor to the family. So I did what had to do."
"What's honor if you don't have a family? Isn't family more important than your stupid pride?"
Mr. Rei Faun leaned back in his chair as he steepled his hands in front of him. "Do you remember Shen?"
Mrs. Rei Faun blinked as he pulled back from him a bit. "Yes. But it's been years since the mentioning of Shen's name. Why do you bring this up now?"
He broke eye contact with his wife. His voice quiet, "He's the reason we left, remember? I'm surprised Kento even remembers his uncle. He was just a boy when we left."
Mrs. Rei Faun's eyes went wide when she remembered and then became soft. "Gomen, it's been so long. We need to notify his friends."
He nodded, "I agree. They need to understand. I hope it isn't too late." Mr. Rei Faun lowered his hands and stood as he walked to the phone and placed a call towards the Koji Manor.
"Hello? Mr. Rei Faun, this is unexpected."
"Cye, would you and your friends please come to the restaurant?"
A deep frown played upon Cye's face, "Why? Is there something wrong?"
"Bring the others. It is necessary. I'll explain once you all arrive."
Cye was about to ask him to explain, but the click on the other end cut the conversation. He hung up the phone and walked to where Ryo, Rowen, and Sage were resting.
Ryo looked over when Cye entered, "Who was on the phone?"
Cye was still in deep thought as he didn't focus on Ryo's question.
The three glanced around at one another and then back at him, "Cye, hey earth to Cye. Hello..."
"Huh, oh sorry, Rowen." Cye apologized as he sat down in the nearest chair.
"Who was on the phone? Was it Kaye? Did she finally Make contact?" Sage questioned as he studied him.
Cye shook his head, "No, it wasn't Kaye. The call was from Kento's father. He said there was something he wanted to talk about with us. We should head over to the restaurant."
Ryo frowned, "Did he say why?"
"No, he was pretty vague about it. Mr. Rei Faun Made it sound urgent." Cye is confused between going to the restaurant and talking with Kento's Parents or waiting here and see if Kaye comes home. He knew she could take care of herself. She has for a long time. But she didn't have to go through this heartache alone.
Rowen stood and walked over towards him, "Cye, we understand how you feel about Kaye not Making contact with you yet. She hasn't talked to us either since she ran. We're just as concerned. But Maybe we should go and see what Mr. Rei Faun has to say. We can't do much remain at home thinking she'd walk through the door. Besides, we have our cell phones. We can always try to call her again."
Cye glanced up at Rowen and nodded, "You're right. It's just I'm having a hard time shaking this feeling something is wrong. But I can't put my finger on it."
Sage stood along with Ryo, "We'll figure all of this out, Cye, you know we will. But for now, we better get to the restaurant and see what Kento's father needs to tell us."
Cye stood and followed the rest of them out to the jeep. The whole situation bothered him. Kento went to China for training but came back a month later Married to a stranger. Kaye has been gone for a week with no word. Now Kento's father, requesting them to visit the restaurant to talk about something important. What was going on?
It didn't take long for the guys to arrive at the restaurant. Rowen pulled into the Parking lot and shut off the jeep. They got out and went to the front door. He stopped in mid-action of grasping for the door and frowned.
Sage glanced at Ryo and then turned his attention back to his blue-haired friend. "Rowen? Why did you stop? Open the door."
"It says closed. It is the first time I've seen the restaurant shut down during the day." Rowen responded as he motioned to the sign.
"Ah, good you all came," an older feminine voice spoke from around the corner.
"Mrs. Rei Faun..." Ryo started to say but then Paused when he saw her shake her head.
"Come around back," Mrs. Rei Faun stated as she turned around and walked around the corner to the back door.
The four glanced at one another in slight confusion but followed, nonetheless, as they entered the restaurant.
Mrs. Rei Faun Made sure the four of them were inside before she locked the door. "Come..." She took the lead and walked to the dining area of the restaurant where her husband was seated.
Mr. Rei Faun glanced up when he heard them enter. "Come sit. Thank you for arriving as soon as you did. I realize you have the circumstance you're dealing with, but what I have to say I think might help shine some light on everything else."
The four took their seats and waited for Mr. Rei Faun to speak.
"Kento came to the restaurant earlier today. We had words." Mr. Rei Faun started to explain.
Mrs. Rei Faun raised a brow when she confronted her husband, "Had words? You two were having a shouting Match! You were fighting, refusing to hear what he had to say. Furthermore, you have gone even so far as to telling Kento he's no longer our son!"
"What?" Four voices chorused as they blinked in surprise. They were trying to get over what Kento's mom said.
Cye found his voice after he got over his shock, "you disowned Kento?"
"After what he did to your sister. I'm surprised at you for not wanting to take his head off, Cye."
"Of course, I'm still angry with what Kento did. But..."
"Mr. Rei Faun, what did Kento try to talk with you about during his visit?" Sage asked as he was doing what he could to return the conversation to the reason for the invitation.
Kento's Parents gave one another a nod and then turned their attention towards the four. "When Kento was a boy, we still lived in China. Something happened, and our family determined it wasn't safe for us to live there anymore. So we relocated here to Japan."
"What happened?" Rowen asked as he started to form his conclusions.
"Kento mentioned his Uncle Shen and how he would understand why he Married Sana." Mrs. Rei Faun started to explain. "You see, Shen died when Kento was a boy. He once lived in a small town called Shigong."
Cye frowned as he was still a little confused, "I still don't understand. Why would Kento mention a dead uncle understanding what he did?"
"Shigong was run by a guild of assassins identified as the Jade Thorns. Shigong was peaceful until those butchers arrived and took over. Shen stood up against their leader and lost his life because he tried to run them out. Sana's father was the one who commanded them. Her father killed Shen, but Sana was the one who killed her father."
Ryo blinked in disbelief, "What? But why would she do such a thing? Wouldn't Sana have been a kid too back then?"
Mr. Rei Faun nodded, "Yes, Sana was a child then. She killed her father because she wanted one thing in life. Power, the main way to gain power in the Jade Thorns is to challenge the current leader to a deadly fight. Whoever won would-be leader."
Sage pondered over his story, "But her father couldn't bring himself to kill his daughter. So he just allows her to kill him instead?"
"You are correct, Sage. We Made a Pact to never talk about the event ever again or mention Shen's name."
"But when Kento mentioned it, then you realized something else was going on and decided to call us," Rowen concluded as he analyzed Mr. Rei Faun.
He nodded, "Yes, you are correct. After things calmed, I realized I Made a huge mistake. I shouldn't have said those things to my son. I told him those words out of anger and not letting him explain himself. Likewise, I'm such an old fool."
Cye glanced at the others and then turned his attention to Mr. Rei Faun, "Then why don't you call him back, and you two can talk things over with us here."
"I told him, never come back. He wasn't welcome at the restaurant. He won't talk to me after today. Not with what I said to him."
Ryo studied the old couple, "Kento May be hot-headed at times, but his family and friends are the most important people in his life. He'll come around on his own once he realizes you didn't mean what you said."
"I hope you're right. Ryo," Mrs. Rei Faun replied and then turned her attention towards Cye. "Has your sister tried to contact you yet?" She saw him shake his head, "I see, she hasn't contacted us either. I'm starting to become worried."
"She hasn't left a message by any means, answering Machine, email, text, nothing. Even her friends haven't heard from her. I don't like this. How could Kaye disappear?" Cye asked as he lowered his eyes to the floor.
Mrs. Rei Faun walked over to Cye and laid her hand on his shoulder. "Before Kento stormed out of the restaurant, I called out to him asking if he heard from her. He said no, but his body language seemed off."
Cye looked up with confusion in his eyes, "What do you mean by off?"
"When I asked him about her, he said no, his body became tense. His fists were tight. He only responds like he did if he's holding something back."
Sage thought over what she said, "So. In other words, you think Kento knows something about Kaye being gone for a week with no word to anyone."
Mrs. Rei Faun nodded, "I believe so. But I think Sana is Making him not tell anyone somehow. Cye, there is one thing I am convinced about my son. He loves Kaye with all of his heart and soul. He told me those very words when he requested the family necklace. I believe in what he said. It is why I granted it to him. I could see the conviction in his eyes. He would move the heavens and earth to get her back no Matter where she is."
Cye peered up from the floor, "How do you know for sure after everything?"
Mrs. Rei Faun smiled at him, "A mother knows these things, plus he's a Rei Faun. I'm sure you and your friends will understand one day when you find someone special to you as well."
Cye gave a sheepish grin as he rubbed the back of his head, "Heh..."
Ryo, Sage, and Rowen snickered at Cye's response to Mrs. Rei Faun's words.
Mrs. Rei Faun smiled and then walked over and sat down beside her husband.
Sage gazed over to the old couple, "Thank you for telling us. We appreciate it, even though it was hard for you to reveal your story."
Mr. Rei Faun nodded, "I just hope it helps the rest of you."
Ryo acknowledged, "We understand better now. So we better head back home and come up with a new plan." He and the others stood up and waved at them. "We'll Make sure to keep you two informed on what's going on when we can."
"Don't worry about it. Stop Sana and get Kento and Kaye back. Then, when it's all over, we can have a proper celebration." Mr. Rei Faun responded as he and his wife watched the four of them leave.
Mrs. Rei Faun glanced at her husband, "Do you believe they'll be able to pull it off?"
"I have no doubt. I have much to Make up for, and for me to do so, I need to start with our son." Mr. Rei Faun replied as the two rose and strolled to the back. "Let's go home."
Nodding her head, she took the key to the restaurant and locked the back door as the two of them walked to their car and drove home.
The four watched the old couple drive away as they got into the jeep. "What do you guys think of everything they told us?" Rowen asked as he started the jeep.
Sage glanced at Rowen as he settled in the Passenger side, "Makes sense when they told their story."
Cye frowned as he looked ahead from the back of the jeep. "So what are you saying, Sage? You think Sana is somehow forcing Kento to act like he is because she has Kaye somewhere?"
"It would Make the most sense to me. If I had to guess, Sana more in likely threatened Kaye one way or another." Sage reasoned.
"Alright, let's say Sana does have Kaye somewhere. How do we go about finding her?"
"I wasn't going to say anything, but after listening to them, I think I'd better," Ryo answered as he pulled out an invitation from his back pocket. "This came in the Mail. It's an invitation to an open house. To Kento's and Sana's new home."
Rowen raised a brow when he pulled out of the Parking spot, "You're kidding me? Did we get an invitation? Sana is some piece of work. It seems like she's baiting us into doing something."
Sage nodded, "More likely to see if we suspect anything. Well then, let's not disappoint the lady. It's rude to turn down an invitation."
