A/N: So this is the end of my little short story. I was just trying something a bit different this go around and I feel the I have achieved that. Sorry for not marking the story in the first chapter but I wanted people to actually read and give the story a chance. One with the show, Enjoy if there is any joy to be found by the end of this.
Guest: Thank you for your honest thoughts.
Hezgu: Thank you for your honest thoughts, though I did also say that the story would only be a couple chapters long. And while I might catch negativity for how I started the story, I would say it is about to get a whole lot worse. Though I am okay with it as this is what I wanted to do. Not make people mad, but I just wanted to write this story ever since I saw a mini comic online.

Hiccup's blood ran cold when Astrid turned his arm over to reveal the bite mark. He didn't even feel the bite, it must have happened during the fight with the man who was turning. Hiccup's mind went black how else was he supposed to react after finding out he only has an hour left to live before he becomes a Snatcher. He walked aimlessly away from Astrid who had remained just as silent.
Hiccup looked around the four walls of their hideout, all the supplies they had gathered, the maps they attained, and the weapons they found to keep them safe. All their plans to get out of Los Angeles, turned to dust; at least for him.
Hiccup looked over to Astrid who had a wistful look about here as she turned her gaze toward the window. He could at least use his eleventh hour to help her out one last time. Just as he did when he burst through the door, Hiccup started packing, though this time it would be just a trip for one.
He could hear Astrid taking long deep breaths, he could hear the sadness in them. He was devastated as well, they had promised to be there for each other no matter what, and he had failed her. Desperately he wanted to go over and comfort her, but he was unsure if she would want him near her anymore. The mere thought of that was a far worse punishment than getting the SV could ever be.
Minutes ticked by and Hiccup could feel the change going on inside of him. Turning his arm over the bite mark was already starting to change color and veins were darkening, showing the progress the SV was making through his body. He could feel his feet start to twitch and could see the red spots where the sores would open on his skin.
His heart rate picked up and fear gripped his body. It was one thing to hear and see what the virus did to other people, to mere strangers and as callous as the thought was; Hiccup was always glad that it was them and him. Now it seems karma was taking its pound of flesh back from him.
His head started to pound, and he could feel his internal body temperature start to rise. He didn't have much longer. He took another look over his shoulder and saw that Astrid was still staring out the window. He smiled and felt the fear fade if only a little, she hadn't abandoned him, and he would treasure that in these last moments. Tears welling in his eyes Hiccup bent down to a knee and removed a loose floorboard, reaching into the cavity he pulled out a handgun that he had acquired a couple weeks ago. They hadn't used it yet, the loud discharge of the gun would only attract Snatchers but here in their hideout, perhaps the walls and boards would muffle the sound.
He checked to make sure the gun was loaded and satisfied that it was he turned to face Astrid one last time. He refused to become one of those monsters and he would be damned if he didn't get the chance to say goodbye on his terms. Those few steps towards Astrid never felt as long as they did in those precious moments, Hiccup spent them memorizing ever detail he could about her. The curtain of liquid gold that adorned her head and shoulders, even in an apocalypse it still smelled like a mountain meadow. Her long legs and toned arms, the hidden strength that was often overlooked. Her soft and smooth skin a small comfort when they were first hiding for their lives in the dead of night. Lastly her beautiful and expressive eyes, she could never hide anything, not with those vibrant blue orbs peering into him.
Hiccup smiled as he reached her and tapped on her shoulder for what would be the last time. His arms were starting to twitch, and it was getting harder to fight as they were getting stronger. Astrid perked up at the touch and turned her head slowly. Hiccup could see the trial of tears that fell down her cheeks and it caused a bolt of pain to fly through him. He never wanted to hurt, vowed that he wouldn't; just another promise broken now.
"Astrid." He whispered, his voice was raspy and gravely. The SV was taking hold.
Though when Astrid turned to face him, Hiccup was confused as to why she had a small, rueful smile amidst the tears. The expression must have been clear on his face as Astrid looked down at her jean covered legs. Hiccup followed her line of sight and a familiar feeling of dread washed over him. On her right shin, just like his arm, was the perfect outline of a bite mark. Astrid was infected with the SV as well.
Hiccup's mouth gaped open, and he tried to ask the all-important question of when it had happened, but nothing was coming out. Astrid reached up and cupped Hiccup's cheek, slowly brushing her thumb over him in an effort to calm him just a little.
"Oh Hiccup. Don't you get it by now?" Astrid said, her voice thick with tears.
"We go everywhere together." She whispered to him.
It broke Hiccup who up until this point had managed to fight off any tears; no more, as he let his fall as he embraced Astrid for the last time. Being so close to one another they could feel the convulsions begin to rack through each other's body. They didn't have long before they would no longer be able to enjoy, anything.
Hiccup broke the embrace and through a veil of tears looked at Astrid to see that the SV had started to change her as well, skin color turning, veins darkening, eyes turning red. They didn't have much time left. Hiccup looked to his right hand which held the handgun and the possible answer to both their problem. Astrid looked down to see the gun and could tell what Hiccup was about to do before he saw her. She looked back to him, confused as to where he got it and why he had it to begin with.
"I picked it up couple weeks back. A last resort in the event that…well this happened to me at least. I always thought you would be the one to outlast me." Hiccup said softly.
Astrid hung her head slightly as she turned her gaze to the gun. The answer was so simple, and the alternative was unspeakable. She understood why Hiccup held onto the gun and in a way she glad now. They wouldn't have to suffer the final stages of the SV. She wiped her tears and looked back up at Hiccup and nodded. The answer to a question that hadn't been asked yet.
Hiccup understood what she was saying with her nod. He wouldn't deny her, could never deny her much of anything. The convulsions were full body now and starting to get painful, their heads were pounding as the virus began its final assault on their nervous system. Hiccup led them over to the farthest wall and sat them both down. With Astrid on his left, it would make this easier.
Seemingly having the same thought, they both looked at each other one last time, taking in every detail, every imperfection, everything that made them who they were. Hiccup moved first and leaned in to kiss her. Their first and last. Astrid met him in kind, savoring the last moment of love that she would feel on this world.
They both convulsed which breaking the kiss far sooner than either of them wanted. Sighing out, with tears in his eyes Hiccup leaned his head against Astrid. Making sure they were level as to not cause any unnecessary pain.
"I love you, Astrid." Hiccup whispered as he cocked the hammer of the gun.
"I love you too, Hiccup." Astrid replied, interlocking their hands.
And as the sun began to set over the city of Angels, bathing it in bright orange hue. A muffled gunshot rang out from a lowly office building. As two more souls joined the unending casualty list of the SV.
A/N: Whelp there you have it. A deadly, world ending virus has taken two of our favorite characters. I am sure I will catch a lot of flak for killing off Hiccup and Astrid but I would ask anyone that reviews the story to let me know if the concept was good. Not much more to add really, I hope you enjoyed the story. Until next time this is the Midwest Mexican signing off.
