Last time: Kyr took down so many troopers on his own before being taken down.
Now: Sasha performs one more miracle.
Chapter 9- Saving the Twins
Sasha and Viran staggered with Oppie between them up the inclined cave to the entrance. As they grew closer to the exit, they could hear the sounds of blaster fire and distinct explosions. Once they reached the exit, they felt Oppie's full weight collapse between them. They looked at him and saw he had passed out again, his injuries and his exhaustion from facing off against Dracul must have finally caught up with him. Plus the steep climb probably didn't help either. Adjusting him between them, they started to move forward, out of the cave entrance and onto the rock shelf.
The both came to a stop as first Sasha, then Viran spotted an orange plated Mandalorian slapping Kyr's face. Sasha was confused for a moment as to why the other Mando was assaulting him until she saw the blood all over Kyr's face. Her heart clenched as she realized the Mando wasn't hurting him. She was trying to wake him. She glanced to the side to see Viran's shocked reaction. They shared a worried glance. With a small collective nod, they moved forward towards Kyr.
As they moved away from the cave and out into the open, a blast suddenly sounded out of nowhere and hit Sasha square in the right shoulder blade. The blast resulted in a pained gasp from Sasha and her nearly losing her grip on Oppie as she stumbled forward.
"Sasha!" Viran cried.
"I'm okay," Sasha said as she clenched her jaw as she straightened up, adjusting Oppie.
Both glanced up, there were some stormtroopers working their way onto the rock shelf from the trail.
"I'll cover you!" Viran said as he moved away and reactivated his saber. "You two keep going."
Sasha nodded. She readjusted her grip on Oppie's arm, wincing while she did so. Sasha then moved at a more quickened pace toward Kyr despite Oppie's unconscious form. She hadn't noticed it at first, but now she could sense it. His life force was slowly slipping away. She had the medical supplies. She was the one with the medical and healer training. She was not going to let him die. Not after they just got Oppie back. So she moved over to him as fast as she could.
Viran stepped forward to deal with the bucket heads as they started sending shots at them. He quickly disposed of them by sending their shots back at them with his saber, he kept giving them cover as they kept moving. His pace was equally as fast as Sasha guessed he sensed the same thing she did.
As soon as they were close enough, Sasha carefully lowered Oppie to the ground near enough to Kyr. She then shrugged off the pack and moved to the other side of Kyr. She winced when she removed the pack due to her injured shoulder, but pushed the pain aside as her injury was nothing compared to what she saw with Kyr. Her breath hitched when she saw the blood covering his face. Viran stood behind her, a hand over his mouth and worry written over his face.
"Oh… no… Kyr. What happened?" Sasha asked as she knelt down beside Kyr.
"It was a bombardment from the star destroyers, I saw it just before I came in." Kitsu told Sasha numbly.
Sasha nodded. Her hands shook as she pried open the backpack. She then pulled out the medpack and started shifting through it at a hectic pace. She then produced a scanner. With it, she checked his vitals. She paled as she looked at the readings on the scanner. He wasn't breathing and his heart was close to stopping. No, she had to do something to save him. Her instincts automatically took over. Sasha tossed the scanner aside and got ready to start chest compressions. However, his chest plate was in the way.
"Sorry, Kyr," Sasha said under her breath.
She removed the chest plate so she could do proper compressions. Just like she was taught, Sasha started compressing on his chest. Every few compressions she did, she would check his vitals again. Nothing, then she would go again. She repeated it. Over and over. But nothing was changing. Nothing was work. Sasha felt anger and tears rise as she continued to try and save him.
Kitsu looked on numbly, knowing how futile the efforts were but not saying anything. She collected Kyr's discarded armor plate.
"Breathe, damn it," Sasha cursed as she continued to try.
It wasn't working. Why wasn't it working? She felt tears fall as she slowed the chest compressions. He was dead and there was nothing she could do. She lowered her chin as she sat back on her heels, her hands covered in his blood sat in her lap.
"I'm sorry… I was too late," Sasha said with a slight whimper in her voice.
She felt Viran's hand grip her good shoulder in comfort. Sasha stared down at her hands and clenched them into fists. She cursed herself for not being fast enough. For failing to save him. They had just brought Oppie back, but they lost Kyr because of it. It wasn't fair. If only there was a way to save him. Suddenly, red lightning started to fizz around her fists. Sasha's eyebrows raised in shock. It looked just like the lighting Dracul used to bring back the dead, but with more of a pinkish tint. The first thought that crossed her mind was where did it come from. Then she remembered the broken holocron. Did the holocron give me the lightning? The second thought was could she use it to save Kyr. Dracul used the ability to bring back the dead for his own evil purposes. Could she use it to revive someone?
Taking the chance, Sasha reached her hands back out and carefully placed them on his unmoving chest. She closed her eyes and concentrated.
"Sash, what are you doing?" Viran asked with a concerned tone. "He's gone, hun."
Sasha didn't answer him. She was focusing herself into the Force and the lightning, and gathered whatever was left of her energy to do this.
Save him.
Suddenly, she felt the red lightning pulse through her fingertips and palms. It didn't feel like negative power or anger or evil. It felt like life, energy, and… hope. Sasha felt Kyr's body pulse as she released the lightning out in short bursts as if she was using a defibrillator on him. She could suddenly feel it. His heart beat. His breathing returning. She had done it. A wave of gasps came from Kitsu and Viran. Sasha opened her eyes and looked down at Kyr's body to see his chest slowly rise and fall. A smile spread across her face as she collapsed back onto her heels, exhausted. She had used so much Force energy.
"Tac," Kitsu called out with a little hope in her voice. "Bring the Shadow in, Illara I'm going to to fly it back, we'll meet at…" She started thinking of the few safe places in her mind that might be able to provide proper medical care.
Tac whistled and chirped.
"Oh, good idea. Illara we'll meet at Haven."
"Roger roger." Illara called back. The ground forces were very well suppressed, but the Star Destroyers might be recovering soon. They had Op, they needed to leave.
Viran leaned back in the pilots chair of the Shadow Runner with a heavy sigh. He ran his hands over his dirty and sweaty face as the swirls of hyperspace spun in front of him. Shortly after Tac had landed the vessel, Viran, Sasha, and the fox colored mando aided the injured twins on board the ship. Then soon after they were settled in the bunk room, Viran got them out of there. Now they were on their way to Haven to get them the proper medical care as well as to lay low.
He rested his eyes for a second. His injuries and exhaustion finally catching up with him as he rested.
"Hey Viran." A woman's voice said behind him.
He blinked his eyes open and looked behind him. The fox themed Mando was walking into the cockpit and headed towards the co-pilot's seat. "Why don't you go back and get checked out, I can watch things up here." She said as she settled in.
"Uh, thanks," he said. "I didn't catch your name?" He asked looking across at her.
"Oh, I'm Kitsu." She replied.
"Nice to meet you." He said, with a sore grunt as he pulled his body out of the chair.
"Likewise, Sport." She said, looking into the swirl of hyperspace.
He stopped short and looked back at her, then shook his head and continued down the corridor, towards the erstwhile medical bay. When he got there, the door slid open to reveal the eerily quiet room. Both Kyr and Oppie lay on separate bunks, unconscious. Sasha was tending to their wounds and injuries with such heavy concentration that she didn't even hear him entering. However, he noticed as he entered that her shoulder already had a fresh bacta on it. He guessed probably from Kitsu. He then noticed Tac was parked beside Kyr, letting out soft and sad beeps. Viran walked over to Sasha, who was tending to Kyr's wounds at the moment.
"How are they doing?" Viran asked.
Sasha stopped and sighed. "Oppie is fine. He just needs rest and maybe needs a night in the bacta tank. Kyr on the other hand… he's not out of the woods yet. The faster we get to Haven, the quicker I can get him into a bacta tank."
Viran nodded then looked down at the resting Mandalorian.
"Once I'm finished with setting their injuries and wounds, let me take a look at yours," Sasha said after a moment.
"I'm fine," Viran said with a shake of his head. "You just keep helping these two."
"Vir, I can sense you're in pain," Sasha said, finally looking up at him. "Please let me just take care of them for you."
Viran sighed and nodded. He then met her gaze.
"And what about your own injuries? How's your shoulder?" Viran asked.
"Don't worry," She gave him a small smile. "Kitsu already took care of it. It's fine."
So his guess was correct. He nodded then made his way over to a nearby chair and sat down in it with a grimace. Okay, so maybe he did need some medical attention. He leaned against the table and watched as Sasha finished treating Kyr for the time being. Once she was done, she gathered the medical supplies and walked over to Viran. She set them down on the table and began to tend to his wounds.
Oppie stirred, his eyes opening drowsily as he took in the room. Thankfully his escape had not yet proven just a dream. He looked around him, and was surprised to see his face in the bunk across from him, and realized it was Kyr. He looked gravely injured, but the small sensor pack next to him showed his vitals were weak but stable. He looked around and saw Sasha and Viran. His body felt battered, like he was covered in one big bruise and littered with broken bones. His headache and his vision was still blurry, and in the fog of his mind he definitely felt a concussion. And it was like all the sleep, hunger and thirst he had not experienced in the last week or so caught up to him in one rush.
"Sasha? Viran?" He croaked.
Sasha and Viran's heads shot up and glanced over to him.
"Oppie, you're awake," Sasha said with a relieved sigh. She set down the gauze she was holding and approached him. Viran followed her, moving a little slower. That's when Oppie noticed Viran had some injuries too. "How do you feel?"
"Oh, just fine." He said tiredly, with a hint of humor. "How are you guys?" He looked over, across to the next bunk "And Kyr? How's he?"
"We are okay," Sasha said. "Just a few bumps and bruises." She then glanced over to Kyr then looked back with a frown. "Kyr's state is still critical. The sooner we get to Haven, the better."
Oppie thought for a moment, trying to remember what Haven might be, then gave up. "Can I help at all?" He asked, in a way that sounded like he was already half unconscious.
"I've done everything I can for now," Sasha said with a sigh. "There's not much left to do. In the meantime, you should rest. Your injuries still need to heal. And I still need to reset your collar bone."
"Okay." He said. "How long has it been?" he asked.
"We left the planet about twenty minutes ago," Viran said.
"No, how long was I… There?" He asked, drowsily.
Sasha and Viran exchanged a glance before looking back at him.
"Op… you've been in there for a little over eight months," Viran said in a sorrowful tone.
Sasha averted her gaze, almost looking ashamed.
"Oh." He said simply. He could have sworn it had only been a week. "I'm sorry," he added. "Thank you for saving me."
"Please don't apologize," Sasha said as she turned her gaze back to him. She placed a hand on his shoulder. "And we will always be there for you, Op. You were always there for us."
Viran nodded as he grabbed her hand. "She's right. We're just glad you are back."
The last thing Oppie noticed before he drifted off was that they were holding hands.
