Sofia the first season 1 episode 19

Princesses Butterfly"

Sofia and Madeline wandered down the halls of Royal Prep.

"Amber?" Sofia called. "Clio?"

"James?" Madeline asked. "Where is everyone?"

Sofia and Madeline came up to a glass door. As they slowly opened it, James popped up.

"Sofia!" He smiled. "Madeline!"

The girls both gasped.

"James, what's going on in here?" Sofia asked.

"We're setting up for the All Hallow's Eve costume ball." James declared.

The room was decorated with pumpkins, bats ghosts and cobwebs. Several of their friends were helping with the setup. Vivian and her fellow musicians were playing onstage.

"Wow." Madeline gasped. "Here, let me help."

"Me too." Sofia nodded.

James handed them a large pumpkin to carry.

"It's gonna be so much fun." James told them. "We all get to dress up."

"And there's a costume contest." Amber added. "Oh, that's the best part!"

"Do you know what you're going to be?" Madeline asked.

"I'm going to be a fairy queen." Hildegarde proclaimed.

"I'm going to be a leopard." Clio added.

"I'm going to be the winner." Amber boasted. "Just like last year, and the year before. I love winning!"

"And you're so good at it, Amber!" Clio declared.

"Good morning, children." Flora announced, as she and the other fairies arrived.

"Oh, everything looks wonderfully spooky." Fauna chuckled. "This year's ball is going to be just, ohhh... splendifirous!"

"And to make it even more exciting, we're making a small change to the costume contest!" Flora declared.

"This year, you'll all have to make the costumes yourself." Fauna added. "Doesn't that sound fun?"

"Um, you mean our handmaidens will have to make the costumes themselves?" Amber asked.

"No, dear." Flora answered. "You are going to have to sew, stitch and craft your costume. And so will Clio, and Hildegarde, and Sofia, and Madeline... all of you!"

"Us, sew?!" Hildegarde gasped.

"Good luck, everyone!" Flora called as she and the other fairies left the room.

"I can't wait to get started!" Sofia smiled.

There was a thud. Sofia and Madeline turned to see that Amber had collapsed.

"Amber, are you okay?" Madeline asked.

"No, I am not okay!" Amber groaned. "I've never made a costume myself. Sometimes, I don't even dress myself!"

"It's not that hard." Sofia told her.

"Yeah, don't worry." Madeline added.

The next morning, Amber was sat in her room.

"Sofia and Madeline are right." She said to herself. "Making a costume's not that hard. I mean, I'm a princess! I can do anything!"

Amber tried to put a thread through a needle. After several failed attempts, she threw them both down and pulled a cloth over her head. Sofia and Madeline then came into the room.

"Amber?" Sofia asked. "Everything okay?"

"Why wouldn't it be?" Amber asked, throwing the cloth off her.

"Um, if you need help sewing your costume, we can show you." Madeline offered, demonstrating the correct way to thread a needle.

"Oh, so the thread goes in that end." Amber noted, sitting on a pincushion. "Oh! I'm doing just fine. Thank you, though."

"Okay." Sofia shrugged as she and Madeline made to leave. "Let us know if you change your mind."

"Okay!" Amber said loudly. "I will, bye!" She sat back down, and held up the cloth. "Okay. Okay, and..."

Amber put the needle through the cloth, pricking her finger. She threw the needle in the air and sucked her finger, then realized the thread was in her hair.

Later, she was stood in front of a mirror, trying to wrap a cloth around her shoulders.

"Oh, this is impossible!" She groaned, falling down.

"Oh, what a beautiful costume, Sofia." Miranda's voice came from outside.

Amber opened the door and went towards Sofia and Madeline's room.

"It looks just like a swan." Miranda's voice said. "Yours too, Madeline."

"Mm-hmm." Madeline's voice said. "But silver."

"She made a silver swan?" Amber gasped.

"Is that a swizzle-stitch?" Miranda's voice asked. "Where'd you learn that?"

"A swizzle-stitch?" Amber repeated. "What's a swizzle-stitch?"

"Look out!" James rushed past, carrying a dragon costume. "Dragon coming through!"

"Mom, you taught me how to do a swizzle-stitch before I could walk." Sofia chuckled.

"Whoa." James gasped. "Awesome job, girls. Check out my dragon costume!"

"Ooh, scary." Madeline smiled. "But... shouldn't there be a tail?"

"Oh, this is just the front part of the dragon." James explained. "Zandar's the back, so we each only had to make half the costume. Brilliant, right?"

Amber rushed in, having finally gotten a good look at Sofia and Madeline's costumes.

"Sofia, Madeline, you... you made those?" She asked.

"I know." Miranda smiled. "They're beautiful, aren't they?"

"They're even better then my dragon." James admitted. "Good luck topping those."

"Hmph!" Amber huffed. As she walked down the corridor, a thought occurred to her. "Who needs luck, when you have a sorcerer?"

In Cedric's workshop, Cedric and Wormwood were playing checkers. Wormwood was winning, and laughed mockingly.

"Cheater." Cedric hissed.

"Cedric?" Amber called as she entered the room.

Surprised, Cedric jumped, knocking over the checker board.

"Princess Amber, what are you doing here?" He asked.

"I need your help, Cedric." Amber declared. "What else would I be doing here?"

"And I would love nothing more then to assist you." Cedric lied. "But alas, I'm terribly busy right now."

"Ugh, don't worry, this won't take long." Amber told him. "All I need is a magic spell that will make me the most beautiful costume in all the world!"

"You want my help with a costume?!" Cedric snorted.

"Not just any costume." Amber countered. "The best costume. For the school ball."

"Oh, right, the ball." Cedric nodded. "Now, I had heard you were supposed to make that costume yourself."

"If I did that, I'd never win!" Amber growled. "You have to help me, Cedric. I'd do anything to win."

"Anything, you say?" Cedric smirked. "On second thought, perhaps I can carve out a teensy bit of time for you after all."

"Thank you." Amber smiled.

"Give me a moment, give me a moment... ah, yes." Cedric grabbed a little bag and filled it with magic crystals from his cauldron. "Now, take these magic crystals and sprinkle them on right before the ball. Say the words 'lepidot leonitis', and the most glorious princesses butterfly costume will appear!"

"'Lepidot leonitis'." Amber recited. "Oh, thank you, Cedric."

Amber left the workshop.

"My pleasure, princess Amber." Cedric smirked. "Ta-ta! Wormy!"

Wormwood cawed, and flew down to Cedric.

"I have come up with the most brilliant plan to get Sofia and Madeline's amulets, and Amber is the key!" Cedric gloated.

Wormwood cawed with confusion.

"Oh, you will have to wait and see, my pet." Cedric declared. "Just wait and see."

Back at Royal Prep, the party was in full swing. Vivian and her musicians were playing, and everyone was in costume.

Sofia and Madeline, wearing gold and silver swan outfits, and James in his dragon costume, entered the room. A crowd quickly gathered around them.

"Sofia, Madeline, you look so great!" Clio smiled.

"Thank you!" Sofia smiled.

"So do you all." Madeline added.

"Really?" Clio sighed, looking over her costume. "I'm supposed to be a leopard, but all my spots fell off."

"Not all of them." Sofia pointed. "There's one."

The spot fell off.

"Oh, no." Sofia sighed.

"You're still the best leopard here, Clio." Madeline reassured her.

"Thanks." Clio smiled. "It's the first time I made a costume by myself. I had fun, but it was not easy."

"It was easy for me." Said one boy in a knight costume. "I just glued some old pieces of armor together, and ta-da!" He tipped over. "I'm okay!"

As the boy was helped up by a friend, James walked up.

"Hey, have you guys seen Zandar?" He asked. "He completes me."

"I think I saw a dragon's tail over by the band." Clio declared.

"Thanks." James nodded, heading for the stage..

"Where's Amber?" Cleo asked.

"Putting on her costume." Sofia replied. "She wanted to wait until we got to school."

"What is she coming as?" Cleo inquired.

"We don't know." Madeline shrugged. "She wants it to be a big surprise."

Outside, Amber was readying her crystals.

"This better work." She sighed. "Lepidot leonitis!"

Amber sprinkled the crystals over herself. A moment later, she was engulfed in streams of light. When the light faded, she was wearing a beautiful butterfly costume.

"Yes!" Amber laughed, rushing into the school. "Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!"

Meanwhile, the fairies were floating above the festivities.

"Time to judge the costumes!" Flora announced, going from student to student. "Oh, yes, delightful! Very nice. Oh, lovely costumes, Sofia and Madeline!"

"Thank you, miss Flora." The girls chorused.

"Oh, I like that one." Fauna said of a girl dressed like her.

Vivian started singing.

Tonight we're really gonna jump and shout We're gonna party, and you know there's no doubt They say a monster is after you Don't turn around, cause it might be true

Ghosts are creeping up to haunt you Ghosts are coming up to get you.

"James!" Zander called. "Has anyone seen James?"

"One of you is sure to win the costume contest." Clio said to Sofia and Madeline. "I just know it."

Amber entered the room, amazing everyone with her costume.

"Look at Amber!" Clio gasped.

"Whoa!" A prince said. "Awesome costume!"

"Amber, you look just like a butterfly!" Clio smiled.

"That's the best costume I've ever seen!" Hildegarde declared.

"Thank you." Amber said smugly. "Thank you."

"Very nice!" Flora declared.

"Amber, your costume looks amazing!" Sofia smiled.

"And you made it all by yourself." Madeline beamed. "We're so proud of you!"

"Oh, um... thank you." Amber said nervously.

The fairies flew over to the stage.

"Children, it's the moment you've all been waiting for!" Flora announced. "We are going to announce the winner of the All Hallow's Eve costume contest!"

"Ooh!" The crowd gasped.

"And the winner is..." Flora started.

The boy in the knight costume fell over again.

"I'm okay!" He called, as his friend helped him up.

Flora cleared her throat.

"And the winner is..." Flora continued.

"Zandar!" James called.

"James!" Zandar yelled.

The two came together and finally completed their costume.

"We're a dragon!" They declared. "Roarrr! Roarrr!"

"Oh, I see." Flora said awkwardly." Thank you, boys. Alright, and the winner is... Princess Amber!"

The crowd cheered.

"I'm the winner!" Amber squealed. "I'm the winner! I'm the winner!"

"Congratulations, Amber." Sofia smiled.

"Way to go!" Madeline added.

"Oh, thank you!" Amber told the applauding crowd, blowing them kisses. "Thank you! Thank you all so much!"

Amber marched over to the stage and accepted her trophy from Flora, holding it up for all to see.

Back at the castle, Amber placed the trophy with all the others.

"Ah, another prize for me." She said smugly. "Now, how do I get this thing off?"

Amber tried taking the costume off, but to no avail.

"Hmm, maybe there's a zipper." She considered. "No..."

Amber kept trying, but the costume wouldn't budge.

"Oh, no!" She cringed.

The costume's wing started flapping, lifting Amber into the air, then dropping her back down.

"Did I just... fly?" She gasped.

Amber raced out of the room, her wings getting in the way.

"Cedric?" Amber called as she entered the workshop.

The sleeping Cedric jumped.

"King me!" He yelped. "Princess Amber?"

"Something's wrong with the costume." Amber declared. "It won't come off! I-I think it's real!"

"No?!" Cedric gasped loudly.

"Yes!" Amber screeched.

"Come here." Cedric offered. "Let Cedric have a look."

Wormwood cawed.

"I knew it wouldn't come off." Cedric whispered. "It's all part of my plan."

Cedric pinched Amber's wing.

"Ow!" Amber winced.

"Why, you're right." Cedric declared. "I can't imagine what went wrong."

"You have to help me." Amber demanded.

"Oh, of course, of course." Cedric smirked. "Right away."

Cedric looked at his spell book.

"Ah-hah, there is one potion that can undo the spell and remove the costume." He announced.

"What is it?" Amber asked.

"Well, it requires two dragon eggs, four griffin feathers, and... a gigantic purple jewel." Cedric declared. "Now, I have plenty of feathers and eggs, but wherever can I find a gigantic purple jewel? Oh, I've got it! Princess Sofia's amulet! That jewel is purple perfect! So if you can just get me your sister's amulet, I can surely fix your little problem."

"Uh, I don't know." Amber mumbled. "She really loves that amulet. Isn't there some other way?"

"Nope, none." Cedric said quickly.

"Well, will she get it back?" Amber asked.

"Oh, I'm afraid not." Cedric declared. "I'll have to use it in the potion."

"Oh." Amber noted. "Wait, maybe I can go to the fairies instead."

"No-no-no-no-no." Cedric retorted. "I wouldn't do that. Then they'll know you used magic to make your costume."

"Oh, I definitely don't want to do that." Amber gulped.

"You see, this is the best way." Cedric declared.

"But how would I even get the amulet?" Amber asked. "I can't just ask Sofia for it."

"Oh, Amber, you're a very smart princess." Cedric replied. "The smartest princess in the castle. Or at least, I thought you were."

"I am." Amber shot back.

"Well then, I'm sure you'll think of a way to get that amulet." Cedric smirked.

"I'll get it." Amber glowered.

"Oh, wonderful." Cedric chuckled. "Then all of my- I mean your problems will be over! Now hurry, run along!"

Cedric closed the door after Amber left. Wormwood cawed.

"Oh, Wormy." Cedric smirked. "The Amulet of Avalor, the most powerful object in Enchancia, will soon be mine! And once I have it in my hands, I'll finally have the power to take over the kingdom! We can't let anything go wrong now. Follow Amber, and make sure she gets that amulet!"

Wormwood flew out of the window.

As Amber walked down the corridor, carrying another costume, her wings fluttered, lifting her briefly off the ground.

"Whoa!" She yelped. "These wings really work! I'd better get that amulet before I take off... and don't come back down!"

Wormwood watched from above as Amber entered the same room as Sofia.

"Sofia!" She called. "I have a great idea!"

"Amber?" Sofia turned around. "Why are you still wearing your costume?"

"That's my idea." Amber smiled. "I thought it would be fun to dress up for school today, and I was hoping you'd dress up with me. I'll wear my award-winning butterfly costume, and you can wear my pixie costume from last year."

"It's really pretty." Sofia took it. "But I don't-"

"Of course, you'll have to take our off to get the costume on." Amber pointed out. "Here let me help."

As Amber reached for the amulet, James and Madeline came in.

"It's time for school!" Madeline called.

"Okay Amber, you won, we get it." James frowned. "You don't have to rub it in our face! Sheesh!"

"We'd better go." Sofia handed Amber the costume. "I'll dress up with you on another day, okay?"

Amber said shoot Madeline get to wear her play Clother" Sighing,

Amber followed Sofia, her wings briefly preventing her from passing through the doorway.

As they arrived at Royal Prep, the other students stared at Amber.

"Why is she wearing her costume to school?" Zandar asked.

Wormwood, having followed Amber, perched on the gates.

"Clio, Amber is still wearing her costume." Hildegarde gasped.

"Um, Amber?" Clio asked. "Why are you still wearing your costume?"

"That is an excellent question, Clio." Milty declared. Lady "Amber?" "

"Oh, well, you see... Mr Milty " Amber stuttered. "I love All Hallow's Eve so much, I thought I'd celebrate it a little bit longer!"

"Well, I appreciate your spirit." Milty say i will let you pass this once . "But tomorrow, I expect to see you in your proper school clothes."

"Yes, Mr Milty." Amber smiled back

As everyone went inside, Amber's wings carried her up the steps and into the door.

"Oh, these wings!" She groaned. no Gmy class is today" oh boy" i am in big trouble with the Ms. Merryweather""

"Amber, everything alright?" Flora popped her head out.

"Yeah, just great!" Amber replied.

As Amber went through the doorway, her wings opened, blocking her way.

"Ow!" She groaned.

Later, at gym class, Amber was thinking.

"Hmm, how can I get that amulet?" She asked herself. "Oh, Sofia?"

"Hi, Amber." Sofia smiled. "Shouldn't you be in gym clothes?"

"Never mind that." Amber groaned. "Can you show me how to go upside-down on the bars? It's really hard for me!"

"Oh, sure. "Sofia nodded.

Stopping only to dust her hands, Sofia swung on the bars, getting into the upside-down position.

"Wow, that's amazing!" Amber gasped. "Now, just hold it so I can see exactly what you're doing."

"Okay, I'll try." Sofia groaned.

"Just another second..." Amber reached for the amulet.

Suddenly, Sofia flipped back to the floor.

"Amber?" She asked. "What are you doing?"

"Nothing." Amber said nervously.

"Okay..." Sofia said awkwardly.

Later, Wormwood watched as the students went outside. Amber threw some juice at Sofia's dress.

"Oops!" She gasped.

"Ah!" Sofia yelped.

"Sorry, I tripped." Amber apologized. "I'm so clumsy. And I've completely soaked your amulet. Here, let me take it to the washroom to clean it up."

Sofia took a step back.

"Okay Amber, what's going on?" She asked crossly.

"What do you mean?" Amber replied.

"You never trip, and you never spill anything." Sofia pointed out. "Are you trying to take my amulet?"

"Oh, no!" Amber laughed falsely. "Why would I want to do that?"

Suddenly, Amber's wings lifted her up.

"Ah!" She screamed.

"Amber, you're... flying!" Sofia gasped.

"I know!" Amber yelped. "Help me!"

"How can your costume make you fly?" Sofia grabbed Amber's hands.

"Because it's not a costume!" Amber declared. "It's real!"

"What?!" Sofia let go in shock.

"Aah!" Amber screeched as she went up. Sofia grabbed her foot and pulled her down.

"What do you mean it's real?" She asked.

"I didn't make my costume." Amber admitted. "I used one of Cedric's magic spells. But something's gone wrong, and now... the wings won't come off! It's like I'm part butterfly! And Cedric said the only way to undo the spell is with your amulet."

"My amulet?" Sofia gasped.

"I know it's a lot to ask." Amber sighed.

"More then you know." Sofia declared.

"But Cedric said without it, I'll have these wings forever!" Amber groaned. "I have no choice!"

"It's just... I told dad I won't take off." Sofia told her.

Amber started flying again.

"Amber!" Sofia pulled her back down.

As Amber seemed close to despair, Sofia looked at her amulet one last time.

"It doesn't matter why I need the amulet." She decided, undoing the necklace. "You need it more. If it's the only way you can get better, then here, it's yours."

Sofia held out the amulet.

"Really?" Amber asked. "You would do that for me?"

"Of course." Sofia nodded. "You're my sister."

Wormwood watched from above.

"Even thought you'll never get it back?" Amber asked.

"Yes." Sofia smiled. "Let's go to Mr. Cee-dric right now."

"No, wait." Amber stopped her.

"What?" Sofia turned around.

"It's just not fair." Amber declared. "I'm the one who lied, an cheated. You shouldn't have to give up your amulet because I made a mistake. Thank you so much for offering, but I can't take it from you."

Wormwood suddenly dived down and snatched the amulet out Sofia's hand.

"Wormwood, no!" Amber yelled. "Come back! I don't want to give it to Cedric anymore!"

"He's not listening." Sofia noted.

"I'm so sorry Sofia." Amber said remorsefully. "This is all my fault. But I'm going to get your amulet back."

"How?" Sofia asked. "He's flying away!"

"He isn't the only one that can fly." Amber declared, flapping her wings. "Whoa!" She yelped. "This is header then it looks!"

"Hold on Amber, I'm coming to help you!" Sofia called.

"Uh-oh." Wormwood gulped as he saw Amber coming at him.

"You can fly, but you can't hide!" Amber taunted him.

Sofia quickly found Madeline.

"Sof, what's going on?" Madeline asked.

Sofia brought Maddie up to speed by the time they got to Minimus' stable.

"Minimus we need your help!" Sofia declared.

Minimus whinnied and snorted.

"Oh, I can't understand you because Wormwood took my amulet." Sofia groaned.

"Sofia, go get our hats." Madeline instructed. As Sofia ran to get their riding hats, Madeline turned to Minimus. "We need your help to get Sofia amulet."

"Hop on, princesses." Minimus smiled.

"Thanks, Maddie." Sofia smiled as they got on.

Meanwhile, Amber was still chasing Wormwood.

"Gotcha!" She lunged, only for the raven to fly way. "Hey!"

Sofia and Madeline flew up to meet Amber.

"We've got to catch him!" Madeline declared.

They chased Wormwood around Royal prep. Wormwood flew into a window.

"He's getting away!" Sofia yelled.

"Maybe not." Amber mused as she few after him.

"The window's too small for Minimus!" Madeline noted.

"Maybe we can get in there!" Sofia pointed.

Minimus flew in through the front door, joining Amber in the chase.

"Was that a bird?" Zandar pointed.

"Was that a flying horse?" Clio asked.

"Was that... Amber?!" Hildegarde gasped.

"You go that way, I'll go this way, and we'll corner him!" Amber instructed.

"I hope it works." Madeline said.

They peeled off in different directions, following Wormwood to a large room with no other exit, the fairies watching.

"Oh, my!" Flora gasped.

As flew to meet him, Wormwood said "Uh-oh!" and dropped the amulet.

"Catch it!" Sofia told Amber.

Amber flew up and caught the amulet.

"Got it!" She cheered.

Minimus chased Wormwood out of the window.

"Shut the window, Minimus!" Madeline instructed.

Minimus complied, shutting out the angry raven, who promptly flew away in defeat.

"You did it, Amber!" Sofia cheered.

"Here you go." Amber handed back the amulet.

"Thank you." Sofia put it back on. "But how are you going to get rid of your wings now?"

"Maybe you should take it to Mr. Cee-dric." Madeline suggested.

"No, there's another way." Amber sighed.

The whole school had gathered, drawn by the commotion. Amber walked up to the fairies, flanked by Sofia and Madeline on Minimus.

"Miss Flora, I have a confession." Amber announced.

"I can't wait to hear it." Flora declared.

"I... am a butterfly." Amber confessed.

The crowd gasped.

"I used magic to make my costume, instead of making it myself." Amber continued.

"Are you saying you... cheated?" Fauna gasped.

"Why ever would you do such a thing?" Flora asked.

"Because... I was jealous of Sofia and Madeline." Amber admitted.

"You were?" Sofia asked.

"Why?" Madeline inquired.

"Because you made such great costumes, and... I wanted to win the contest." Amber confessed.

"But I'm sorry. I shouldn't be jealous of you. I should be grateful, because...

You would do anything for me."

"Well, we're very disappointed in you, Amber." Flora said firmly.

"Yes, yes." Fauna agreed. "Very, very disappointed."

"But we're happy to see that you've learned a few things from this experience." Flora added.

"Yes, yes." Fauna smiled. "Very, very happy about that."

"Of course, you'll have to return the trophy." Flora pointed out.

"Yes, miss Flora, I understand." Amber sighed. "So is there any way you can fix me?"

"Of course, dear." Flora smiled.

"We can do anything." Fauna chuckled.

"Discotor, discotorm, now return to your true form!" Flora waved her wand.

Amber was lifted into the air, and her costume vanished, replaced by her normal gown.

"Amber, you're back!" Madeline smiled as the sisters hugged.

"So next time, how about we make our costumes... together?" Sofia suggested.

"Ooh, great idea." Amber smiled. "Then I'll win for sure!"

"Amber!" Madeline admonished her.

"Just kidding, girls." Amber chuckled.
