Maldron Hotel Parnell Square, Ireland

"Is Walter going to be OK?" Ralph asked Sean tearfully.

Sean had no idea how to answer that. They were still no closer to answers. They'd been shocked when the Doctor on rounds today had happily announced that Walter didn't need to be rushed to Kings in London for a back surgery- nobody knew that was even considered before.

Hospital

Walter was able to focus more in the meantime and was able to get back to working from his laptop. He'd gotten far behind on many of his coding jobs and didn't want his company to loose any of his clients trust- 'I've lost a lot of people's trust recently' he thought to himself bitterly while watching a nervous Paige.

Walter and Paige were being incredibly awkward around each other, both now unsure how they should act towards each other while secretly pining for the other. Paige however allowed herself to stroke his hair and face and kiss Walter when he was knocked out by the meds. Feeling incredibly bad as she did so, remembering Toby's comment about her assaulting an unconscious man when she kissed Walter after his car accident.

Louise always smiled at her sadly whenever she saw Paige doing that. To be honest Paige had exspected the older woman to be angry at her or refuse to let her see Walter but she'd not said anything to Paige until now. "Couples fight.." she said out of the blue "..but he still loves you. You just need to show him." Paige nodded tearfully and wrapped her arms round the now unconscious Walter.

Later that day

"I know this may be difficult but I need you to focus Mr O'Brien. I have to know if you any history of recreational drug use" the doctor said sternly. Walter was struggling to keep his eyes open and failed to respond beyond a mumbled "ussse".

Cabe avoided Sean and Louise's eyes as he answered for him. "He had mild addictions to Cocaine, street Benzodiazepines, Ecstasy and Desoxypipradrol between the ages of 17 and 22." He said drawing gasps from the others. The Doctor nodded "I'm going to speak to my colleagues and see if his previous history has anything to do with how he's doing now" he said before leaving the room.

Paige was in shock- Walter didn't even like taking the medication he was prescribed let alone anything else or even drink because of the effect it has on the mind. She was glad Allie had taken Ralph to find food. The last thing she wanted was Ralph to think that because his idol had taken drugs then that was a cool thing to do. She wondered what happened to the normally health conscious Walter to drive him to drugs.

A couple of minutes later it hit her "Baghdad" she said out loud. "Baghdad" replied Cabe nodding sadly before lowering his head.

He felt guilty again. Cabe knew it was mostly his and Merrick's manipulation of Walter when he was a child that later turned the angry and depressed teenager that he was to drugs. Walter had even admitted as such to him previously.

God if he'd not gotten Walter involved in the project or if he'd stepped in to stop Walter's downward spiral, dispite the younger man's anger with him, maybe he'd be ok now. He'd never forgive himself if it was the drugs but part of him hoped it was. Maybe that'll mean it was something fixable.

Walter had said to him before that MS is tricky, There was different levels and layers to it. A person could have Relapsing-remitting MS and be bedridden one day and appear fine the next. However Megan's was active primary progressive, and if history had been any indicator Walter would be the same. While it was rare to die of MS alone some of the complications that come from it easily could kill him. Cabe didn't think he could handle that. As odd as it sounded and while it made him feel awful to think about it Walter's drug history gave him hope that he wouldn't lose his boy.

Centipede partners offices

The building was silent as the team processed everything. Happy was so upset she wasn't even angrily bashing something, she was instead sat at Paige's chair holding a picture of their old team.

Tears rolled down her face as she thought about her former husband and best friend. Happy and Toby had been talking about reconciling with Walter and returning to Scorpion if he'd allow it. Now it sounded like there may never be a chance of the latter.

Worse still was Toby's comment-out of his mouth before he could stop it "The stress would've triggered it". He'd gone to the Casino not long afterwards, Happy didn't even bother to stop him, She'd nodded in understanding, just glad he'd been honest with her.

Slyvester was struggling not to throw up. He'd been sick so many times since hearing about Walter's hospitalisation, and with Toby's comment he'd felt even worse. He couldn't get the image of how his late wife, Walter's sister, looked just before her passing. If the stress had caused it then it was all his fault. Not just for the team separating and Paige leaving him but for the recent secret he'd been hiding from the others.

He wondered if he'd been wrong to trust Florence.
