"Hotchner-Rossi residence, Aaron speaking"

"Aaron, it's me," Dave said quickly, leaning against the wall of the phone alcove.

"Hey. I was going to come up this morning and see you guys after I took Derek and JJ to training, but I got caught up on some paperwork. Do they know what's wrong yet or are we still waiting for test results?"

Dave let out a choked sob, his hand coming up over his mouth as he tried to find the courage to say it. And he didn't want to say it. Because saying it meant it was real.

"Dave?"

"He has leukaemia Aaron"

Aaron's sharp intake of breath could be heard on Dave's end of the line. "he what? No. That has to be a mistake"

"I assure you, it's not a mistake. Doctor Robb showed me the test results. It explains everything"

"Oh my god"

Dave took a deep breath, trying to quell his tears. "He's having a small surgery this afternoon to confirm it. They're going to give him some medication to ease the pain and make the operation tomorrow easier"

"I'm coming up as soon as I can, ok? Then you can try and explain it all to me then"

Swallowing thickly, Dave clutched the phone. "Ok," he whispered. "I'll see you then"

"Tell him I love him. See you soon"

"I will," Dave choked out. "Bye"

When the line went dead, he prayed that he would be there sooner rather than later. he needed someone to lean on so that he could be there for their boy.
