Sitting on his own while his daddy went down to the street level to grab a half decent coffee from the nearby shop, Spencer was bored out of his mind.
He had cycled through the hospital TV stations about six times, praying for something remotely entertaining to watch, when he heard a knock at the door.
Looking over to the door, he broke into a huge smile to see Derek, JJ, Emily and Penelope coming into the room carrying a large cardboard box, their fathers just behind them.
"Ooo hi guys!" he said excitedly, swinging his legs over the edge of the bed as his siblings reached him.
Emily placed the cardboard box down on Spencer's bed before wrapping her brother in a gentle hug. It was prolonged and warm; they had seen each other on Friday but missed each other terribly.
"I have missed you these past two days so much spence." She said gazing down on him.
"How are you feeling spence?" asked Dave.
"Pretty good. I mean, my head hurts and I still feel yucky but better than I was yesterday" spencer replied.
"Good to hear," Dave said, watching as JJ took the a large handmade card from her backpack and placed in Spencers lap.
Carefully opening the envelope, Spencer slid out a large card with an illustration of a monkey holding a 'Get Well Soon' balloon.
Penelope giggled. "We knew Pappa likes to call you monkey, so when I thought of it we just had to draw it"
JJ giggled with her sister, jumping onto the bed next to Spencer and settling back against the pillows as she flipped open the card. As she began to read the sweet little messages left for him by his siblings the smile on his face grew bigger.
Spencer, set the card down on the nightstand as his father came back into the room.
While Dave and Aaron spoke, Derek reached into the box.
"So, we made some little gifts, but you have to open this first," he said, handing Spencer a smaller carton. He frowned.
"Why?"
Derek grinned. "Because if you don't, it'll go bad"
Spencer's eyes widened as she realised it was probably food. Opening the box, he peeked inside, his face lighting up as he realised what was inside.
"Chocolate covered strawberries! Awesome!" he exclaimed, making their fathers laugh.
And so the rest of the afternoon was wasted away squished up with their little brother on the bed as they watched terrible TV programs, giggled constantly, and enjoyed chocolate coated strawberries.
For Spencer, that was a pretty good afternoon
