Forward: Home.

It has been years since I've set foot in Moga village, and yet it's like I've never left. when the Agrosy pulled to port it was like i was sent back in time to when it all began, the smell pf the sea breeze mixing with the faint sent of the villages famed honey, the gentle creak of wood... I'm home.

.

.

Dah'ren Mohran:Colossal elder dragons that swim through the Great Desert, smashing obstacles with their spiral horns. Their unique color comes from the thick layer of oxidized metals and other rare minerals that lodge in their hides over their long lives.

Despite it's proximity to Moga village, I never actually visited the great dessert city of Loc Lac, so I've never got the chance to join one of the hunts for the great elder dragons of the sand sea... maybe now that I've returned to the old world I'll get the chance.

Daimyo Hermitaur:A large carapaceon with a giant monster's skull on its back. Fond of the sand, it is mainly seen in the desert or jungle zones. Living underground, it surfaces when hungering for a snack.

One of the first mildly challenging monsters I faced after being reassigned to Poke, the adult Hermitaur are surprisingly more agile than you would assume upon first glance. Sometimes in the early summer there populations could explode in the jungle island regions to ridicules levels, necessitating "Huntathon" quests. And as one might expect from a carapaceon monster, they taste amazing when cooked right. Hinata and his assistants created a truly fantastic steampot made from Bullfango sausage and Daimyo Hermitar legs after one of those huntathons once.

Dalamadur:A huge elder dragon, massive beyond human comprehension. The only mention of its existence is found in fairy tales, which claim it can warp the very surface of the world and level mountains with a single twitch.

Let me ask you something... have you ever been to the Rotten Vale in the new world? No.. well your nose will thank you for that, but if you had been there you would know that an entire region, a place of comparable size to the Forest and Hills region of the old world, was build on the bones of two of these great snakes. Do to the size of a exposed vertebra, the research team concluded that the Elder Dragon was approximately SEVEN MILES LONG fully grown. Seven miles long! The one Aiden, his master, and two other G rank hunters faced together was a BABY and it could still crush MOUNTAINS! This monster is Probably the most powerful mountain class monster, unless you count [REDACTED] as a mountain class monster, in the world.

Delex:Carnivorous desert monsters that often travel in schools of four or five. When near large monsters on the hunt, they will attempt to surround the prey and scavenge feed. Their aural sensitivity makes them weak against Sonic Bombs.

Honestly? I just like watching theses guy swim.

Delma-Ioprey: ? ? ?

I don't know if this monster is even real. All the guild knows about it is a single drawing from an old hunter's note, it's name, and that if its real it's probably a bird wyvern going of said drawing.

Desert Seltas: A mid-sized Neopteron whose forked horns and broad foreleg- attack range set it apart from its more common cousins. Desert Seltas have also been known to burrow freely through the ground.

Compared to other hunters I've met, my experience with Neopteron monsters has been far more limited. But from what I know Desert Seltas have it even worse than there non-subspecies counterparts.

Desert Seltas Queen:A large Neopteron known to use the pincers at the tip of its long tail to grasp male Seltas - or anything it considers a threat. Once it has a male in its grasp, this Desert subspecies may even violently throw its mate at enemies.

Deviljho:The dreaded, nomadic Deviljho have no specific territory of their own. Their muscles swell if provoked, revealing old wounds. Needing to feed constantly due to high body heat, they can hunt nearby animals to extinction.Due to its enhanced metabolism, Deviljho must constantly seek out prey. It is extremely violent, and known to snatch up large monsters in its powerful maw and flail them around.

For all the stories I had heard about this monster, about its rage, it's hunger, and it's ferocity, I was almost disappointed when it appeared in the new world. To be fair I had been a G rank hunter for some time before traveling to the new world. I had faced Rajaing, Elder Dragons, Crabs the size of a fortress. And so I was a bit Underwhelmed when I finally faced this beast. Make no mistake, Deviljho is an extremely powerfully brute wyvern to be sure, but the legends surrounding it are a little embellished, at lest to me.

Diablos: Wyverns feared as desert tyrants. Extremely territorial, Diablos attack invaders with blind aggression. Highly sensitive to sound, perhaps because they frequently travel beneath the sand. Known to feed on cacti.

Diablos Diablos Diablos, once your powerful charges made you a threat, but now that I always have the high ground with my glave, you are easy prey. even in those times I dabble in other weapons, I know your weaknesses now. Also Monablos is a way better monster than you.

Dodogama:A monster that devours rock as its primary diet. The Crystals it devours mix with its saliva to produce explosive minerals that it can spit at its enemies.

Everyone loves this little idiot. no really, I've never met a hunter that's seen a dodo and not loved theses guys. there's even a unofficial Dodogamma protection squad or something along those lines in Astera.

Dreadking Rathalos:Even among the rulers of the sky, the "Dreadking" is truly the king of kings. A giant, supported by wings as black as the scorched remains of its prey. Humans are usually unworthy of its attention, but it descends with fiery wrath upon intruders to its domain. Requires special permission to hunt.

I wasn't around to face this deviant when it was discovered by the guild, so I don't really have much to say about it. Same with it's mate Dreadqueen.

Dreadqueen Rathian:Every rose has its thorns. The "Dreadqueen's" thorns are barbs full of deadly venom, and they can scatter a purple cloud of suffocating death in any area she alights. She blooms proud and alone amidst her own desolation. Requires special permission to hunt.

Drilltusk Tetsucabra:An exceptionally large Tetsucabra with tusks that can drill through earth, or even metal. If the Drilltusk weren't constantly shattering boulders on its enemies or trying to crush them with its weight, one could almost appreciate the masterful way it digs. Requires special permission to hunt.

Going through this whole Hunter's Notes project has made me realize just how many monsters the Guild knows about that I have never faced my self. I don't think I have ever faced a monster from the Amphibian classification... It's weird to think about just how many species of monsters there are in this world.

Duramboros:Giant brute wyverns with hammer-like growths on their tails. They subsist on fallen or withered trees, often using their tails to knock said trees over. Researchers speculate that the lumps on their backs act as some sort of energy source.

Yet another monster I haven't actually faced, that seems to be the theme for this Hunter's Notes entry. for stories Aiden and other hunters have shared with me, Duramboros seems like a extremely fun monster to hunt. That one pink haired hunter I've mentioned before seemed particularly fond of this brute wyvern, calling it "The God of Hammers". So there's that.

And so, hunters and non hunters alike, it's once again time for a Side Note:

Amongst all the endemic life in the new world, the strangest is the Cactuar. these creature are actually mobile plants that are related to the cactus plant. These seemingly impossible creatures are actually not native to the New World, but were accidentally transported into the Wildspire Wastes form [REDACTED BY THE GUILD] when an inexperienced [REDACTED] accidentally arrived in the new world. The [REDACTED]'s arrival in the New World accidentally brought along these strange creatures, as well as a large crystal that served as a catalyst to create a deviant Kulu Ya Ku, and the creature referred to as [REDACTED] which could [REDACTED] as well as [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] which make it far stronger than most Elder Dragons. To properly defeat the [REDACTED] the [REDACTED] Taught me a ability similar to a hunter art that allowed me to leap a tremendous height. Even with this ability it still took the combined efforts of myself, Aiden, and two other highly skilled A-list hunters to successfully defeat the [REDACTED].

Q&A:

Hunters Life has passed along a Question to me that a hunter under the pseudonym "24th collussus" mailed in. And he asks "As a newly minted G rank hunter from the Old world, that is soon to be sent to the new world, what are your words of wisdom for us newcomers?"

Honestly if you made G rank in the Old World then you shouldn't have to much problems in the New World. But there are a few things to keep in mind. There is a lot more freedom in how you can operate in the New World as ease of exploration has been favored over tradition. Since the Guild has forbid the transfer of most materials from the New and Old World you'll have to get new equipment forged, and in the new world that's a bit different.

The head smith Andre disbanded the differences between Blademaster and Gunner armor to allow hunters more freedom in creating sets for any challenge. Additionally, do to the extremely high concentration of Bio-energy in the New World, skills are far more abundant than in most old world regions. Meaning you can accumulate a massive about of them to aid your hunts, so rationing skill points and balancing negative skills are much less of a hassle. In fact negative skills aren't a factor at all in the New World. But there is a trade off for this.

Do to how New World skill gems are crafted, you can't chose to forge them in the conventional manner. unique materials can be recovered during some quests that the smithy can transform into skill gems, but the effect of theses gems are uncontrollable so you don't know what skills you'll get out of them. In other words there completely random.

There's several other differences in how thing in the new world work, but transitioning to the new world style of hunting isn't to difficult, so the best advice I have is pretty simple, find what weapon works with how you hunt, watch how monsters move and find there patterns, And listen to the other members of the Commission.

The fled team leader Jiro can explain how a lot of New World techniques and gear work and offer tips on there use. He'll probably keep a eye out for you and ever other hunter you sail in with for a few weeks to help you settle in.

The Research Team will offer varies bounties you that you might be able to get done on a quest and offer rewards for them. They'll also offer a special kind of quest called an investigation sometimes. Investigations have different requirements then normal quests but they offer different, often hard to normally get, rewards as compensation.

Watch out for your handler, they are a great help but they can get into trouble, really pard?, how many times have I pulled you put of harms way again Sasha? fair enough. Your handler will record information for you so you don't have to transcribe monster information mid hunt, they'll prep some items so you can combine stuff like potions quicker and don' t have to have everything you'd need to make them in the Old World on you, and generally make things easier on you.

Try to befriend the native tribes, in my time in the New World I worked hard to help improve relations with the native Felynes. The various clans of grimalkines know there preferred homes well and are skilled hunters in there own right. Making alliances with them can be highly beneficial.

Finally, don't skip out on specialized tools, those gadgets are all extremely useful depending on where and what you are hunting, especially the Gillie mantle.
