When Amber comes down to dinner later that evening, James stops her in a panic at the doorway of the dining hall.
"Amber, did you see a letter addressed to Sofia inside your vanity drawers by chance?"
Amber's eyes narrow in suspicion at James's odd question.
"Yes I did, James how did you know about that, were you snooping in my room again!" Amber shouts, outraged , taking out her fan to smack James with it.
James puts up his arms to protect himself as he said, "No I was snooping this time, honest, I was hiding a letter from Hugo to Sofia!"
Hearing that makes Amber freeze in shock as James continues to explain a bit more about the letter and what its contents were.
"It was break up letter, saying that he couldn't handle that thought of having to wait for her, telling her that them getting together had been a mistake and that he was moving with Judy, when I read the letter, I was angry, but then I decided that Sofia's emotional state was more important, so I hide the letter in one of your old vanity drawers."
By the end of the explanation, Amber was pale as a sheet saying, "I have messed up James, I messed up big time."
Now it was James's turn to go pale when he got what Amber meant, but they didn't have long to process it as Baileywick came up to them and told them to go sit down for dinner.
Meanwhile at the Facility that evening Mr. Henry who was the inside mailman for the ward was giving out letters for the children on the ward.
"Little Miss Sofia you have a letter." He said addressing the ward's newest member.
Blushing a bit at the nickname she takes the letter thanking the man as she goes to sit by Elsa who was reading her letter, happy as always.
Smiling as well Sofia opens the letter, reads it and for a few moments just looks at the letter and then looks around the room where everyone else was either chatting happily or still reading their letter, suddenly unable to stand being the room any longer she puts the letter aside and walks out of the room quickly ignoring Elsa's concern questions when the girl picks up the letter that Sofia left behind.
Reading the letter, Elsa sucks in a sharp breath in shock and then crushes the letter in her fist as her light blue eyes turn teal with anger at the boy who broke her friend's heart.
Without another word to anyone else, Elsa leaves to after Sofia, when she gets to the girl's room, she finds her lying curled up on the bed crying her eyes out, without much thought Elsa quickly gathers the hysterical girl into her arms, saying nothing as the tears soak her dress until Sofia fell asleep exhausted, not want to leave her friend alone, Elsa shifts and lays down next to Sofia and soon was asleep as well when Tess comes into check on Sofia and finds them both asleep, seeing the dried tear tracks on Sophia's face, she frowns in concern as she pulls up a chair and sits beside them, leaving them to sleep while she watched over them.
Meanwhile, at the Terra Kingdom, a girl around 16 years of age with dark black hair and little green eyes was busy giggling while talking into her two mirrors.
"While thanking you Jacob darling, I have to admit I have had boys compliment my eyes before but none quite so eloquently as you, yes I will see you at Lunch tomorrow and if you see your buddy Jack, let me know, that weirdo Emily is looking for him." Hearing the door open to her room, she turns to see her annoying little brother, Hugo standing there.
Rolling her eyes she speaks into the mirror, "I have to go now, my pesky little brother is here, bye."
Hanging up the mirror she turns her attention to where Hugo was still standing, "I see that knocking is above you brother mine." she said mildly annoyed.
Hugo rolls his eyes, "I did knock Stacy, but you were too busy being all mushy with your newest boy toy."
It was Stacy's turn to roll her eyes as Hugo went to sit on the edge of her bed.
"I wrote Sofia a letter saying that we were through and that I was going to the fall dance with Judy instead," Hugo states, surprising the older princess a bit at the admission.
Turning to give her undivided attention to her foolish little brother.
"Hugo Garrick Alexander! How could you be so heartless, Sofia has barely been away for 3 weeks and you break up with her for that little insect, I thought you loved Sofia?" Stacy questions.
Hugo sighs, "I do, I mean...I did, but I don't expect you to understand, since you practically have a new arm candy every 2 weeks, what Judy and I have is real, Sofia was just a phase."
Stacy stares at Hugo in disbelieve at what she was hearing come out of her baby brother's mouth, frowning she says, "I think you are making an idiotic mistake, Hugo, but I will let the fates tell you that, when it all blows up in your face, now leave, I have to get ready for dinner and you should too and tell Axel as well or mother and father will be crossed with him for being late, again."
Hugo huffs as he leaves muttering how he wasn't a page boy as he leaves the room.
Meanwhile back in the Facility, Sofia wakes up with a jerked gasp as the nightmare woke her up from a sound sleep, frowning when she notices that she is warmer than usual she tries to move only to realize that she wasn't alone in her bed, looking over her shoulder she sees Elsa asleep next to her in her bed.
Sofia's shock softens to contentment as she realizes that the other girl stayed with her to comfort her in her time of need.
For a few moments, Sofia tried to get back to sleep but the nightmare was still fresh in her mind so she carefully slips out from Elsa embrace and goes to sit at her desk and grabs a piece of paper and pencil which she stole from the classroom since they were normally not allowed pencils or pen in their rooms since the risk of self-harm was a high possibility.
Without the thought of getting caught, Sofia writes pouring all her heart and soul into it.
Dear Prince Hugo of Terra,
When I got your letter, I was devastated, I thought that you were the one for me and you figured the same as well, but I guess we were both wrong, I thought that what we had was something special, but I guess I don't mean that much to you after all since it only took 3 weeks for you to drop me for another, I thought that I finally found my soulmate, someone who loves sports, movies, and shopping and skating just a much as I do, but I guess I don't know you as well as I thought I did, but when you get this letter, I want nothing to do with you, when I get to Corinthian Sports School next year my schedule will be changed so that I am not in same classes as you and your new girlfriend, I hope that you find happiness because apparently, you weren't getting it from me.
I bid you farewell
Princess Sofia of Enchancia
After reading over the letter Sofia nods satisfied as she puts her stolen pencil back in its hiding place, she quickly folds the letter and seals it shut with a sticker of Enchancia coat of arms and addresses it to Hugo, before putting aside for her to deliver it to be sent out.
Feeling tired once more, Sofia crawls back into bed and falls back asleep, no nightmares came for the rest of the night.
Meanwhile at the nurse's station
Tess and her friend Evelyn Higginbottom, who was one of the teachers on the ward, were having a late-night snack, catching up with each other.
"You know Tess when I was gathering up all the student's supplies earlier this afternoon when I noticed that one of the students was missing a pencil."
Tess was internally rolling her eyes as she said almost sarcastically, "And which student was it this time."
Evelyn gives her friends a mildly disapproving look before saying, "Sofia."
Tess sighs and says, "If it makes you feel better, I will check Sofia's bags before I get to bed myself, maybe she forgot that she had to leave the pencil in the classroom, a simple mistake really, not every child that comes through our doors is a self-harm risk, why do you think we make them wear short sleeves inside all the time? And don't bother Dr. Kevin with this, it is his day off tomorrow and he needs it. The poor man has been working himself too hard."
Evelyn lets out an annoyed sigh, but backs down, knowing that Tess is especially protective of Sofia and the young doctor.
Nodding Tess leaves the station and goes into Sofia's room quietly and smiles when she sees the two girls still fast asleep, she looks around and finds Sofia' school bag hanging by the door, with a quick, and thorough check finds no pencil or pen in the bag, but years of experience told Tess to look in Sofia's desk so she carefully opens each drawer and feels for it, when she felt around and pointed object she grasp it and pulls it out, silently celebrating at finding what she was searching for, then she carefully closes the drawers and bag, leaving the bedroom and to go give Evelyn the pencil.
"Here." Tess said tossing the pencil on Evelyn's report that she was working on, "When Sophia comes into class tomorrow, you better not give her any grief about it, as I said before I am sure that she simply forgot about the rule, just gently remind everyone to turn in their supplies."
Evelyn nods as she takes the pencils and puts them in her pocket before finishing the report, basically dismissing Tess, who was happy to leave and catch up on some sleep.
The next morning was pretty uneventful as Sofia got ready for the day, while Elsa had woken up earlier and snuck back to her room to get ready for the day as well, she was still be dazed when she ate breakfast and when she came into the classroom, Ms. Higginbottom greeted her as she gathers her supplies unaware that her pencil was once again in her supply bag as she opens it.
"Good Morning Class, today we are going to learn the art of..." Sofia's mind starts to wander as she pretends to listen to the teacher's lecture while Elsa sits beside her taking notes.
By some miracle, Sofia was able to get through class without being called on for once and so she leaves the classroom which the teacher dismisses after reminding them all to put all their pens, pencils, and erasers into their supply bags and to hand them in.
Once that was done, Sofia had lunch with Elsa and they just chatted throughout recess talking about the letter and other little things.
"So Elsa, how is Anna today?" Sofia asked.
Elsa thinks about it for a second and then answers, "She is still bed, by the way, isn't your folks coming by today?"
Sofia nods, "Yes at around 6 pm after dinner, and since Dr. Kevin isn't here today, it means no family therapy session." she said excitedly.
Elsa shakes her head sadly at Sofia, "Not quite, Dr. Kevin left Ms. Henrietta in the changer and she isn't as easy going as he is."
Sofia grimaces when she remembers the woman who she had met twice, she was Dr. Kevin's assistance and second in command, she was strict and formal with everyone, but when she met with Sofia and her parents she was straight to the point and very matter of fact about Sofia's behaviors and treatments, which Roland and Miranda appreciated, but Sofia found it all mortifying as she tried to sink into her chair, wishing to disappear.
"Yeah, I know," Sofia said with a groan.
Elsa pats her on the back in sympathy, "Aw, cheer up it's not that bad, I used to have her a lot more, and once you get to know she can be nice.
Sofia looks at her friend in disbelief at hearing that but then decides to not think about it much and asks.
"Hey, Elsa, have you ever heard of Meditation?"
Meanwhile, Jack was busy exploring the caves that he has been held captive in for almost a month now as he explores the caves he comes upon a larger cave with a couch-shaped rock and table.
'Who or what leaves rock-shaped furniture down here? Probably, Heidi, had Gabe put this in here.' Jack thinks as he explores the small room for a few moments and then decides to head back to the campsite, where he reties himself back up and then resumes laying down on his side, waiting.
Hearing the bickering couple arguing, he stays silent until he feels a not so gentle nudge to his lower back as Gabe forces him to sit up and quickly unties his hands before handing him a bowl of lukewarm watered cabbage and carrots and bread.
"Eat." Which Jack did with a gusto, uncaring that it wasn't tasty or remotely good, food was food.
'I hope that when I get out of here, I will make it up to you, my dearest Emily.' Jack thought as he watched the thieves looking through their stolen goods.
Meanwhile at Royal Prep Prince Hugo was having a lunch date with Judy, when he decided to ask her.
"Judy my dearest, will you do me the honor of attending the Fall Dance with me," He asked even though his heart wasn't into it as much he thought when Judy squeals in delight as she reaches over the table and kisses, unaware that he didn't return it.
"I would love to go with you Hughie, but what about next year you are going to that sports school, while I am going to the school for the Arts. I demand that you go to a more respectable school, like the Royal Institute for Science and Alchemy. I like my men with brains, not brain dead."
Hugo was taken a bit by that, but he wanted his dearest to be happy, "I will see if I can switch, but Judy I only applied to Corinthian Sports School so it might not be possible, I am sorry."
Judy just pouts at hearing that saying, "Oh poor simple Hughie, why do you torture yourself so? Why go to the school where you will run into your Ex every day and be miserable without me by your side, think about Hughie, it's me or sports, see you after school." Smirking, Judy leaves Hugo to think long and hard about his future, unaware that Amber had overheard them and decided to confront Hugo.
"Hugo, I thought that you loved My sister, how could you be heartless," Amber said.
Hugo just sighs and looks at Amber saying, "Well I don't...not anymore, look I don't want a fight, see you later, Princess Amber."
Amber watches as he leaves muttering under her breath angrily about idiot princes and two-timing whiney princesses when she bumps into Desmond.
"Hey watch where - oh! Desmond, I am so sorry!" Amber said as she took Desmond's offered hand.
Desmond smiles, shaking his head, "No harm done, hey Amber, do you want to go to the Fall Dance with me?"
Amber smiles saying, "I would love that Desmond." Then she gives him a peck on the cheek, making the nervous prince blush, while she giggles, then she spots her twin James coming down the hall chatting with Zander.
"Hey, James!" Amber shouts to get her brother's attention, watching to see James look in her direction.
"Yeah, Amber?" James said as they came closer.
"Don't forget that we are visiting Sofia at 6:00 this evening." Amber states.
James shakes his head smiling, "I won't."
"How is Sofia doing by the way?" Desmond asked curiously.
Amber was the one who answered, "She is doing better, but it will be a while before she is well enough to come home."
James nods in agreement with that.
Zander just gives them a half-smile, clapping James on the shoulder, saying, "We'll have a good visit, and keep us updated.
Amber nods, "We will." Hearing the bell ring, they were soon all running off to make it to class on time.
Later after school, Hugo goes to Derby practice and runs into his friend Derek.
"Hey, Derek, what's happening?" Hugo greets happily.
"Nothing new, sorry to hear about Sofia. I hope she is doing alright," Derek said with sympathy, unaware of Hugo breaking up with Sofia.
"Yeah...uh hey Derek, just out of curiosity what would you have done if for some reason Maya was put in a hospital or rehab facility?" Hugo asked.
Derek just looks at Hugo and said with a serious look on his face, "I would have stood by her side support her as much as she needs and I would wait for her, even if that meant weeks, months, or even years, that is true love, loving someone and sticking with them through it all, even when it is tough."
Hugo goes silent at hearing that and then turns to Derek, "Thanks for the talk, Derek."
Derek smiles, "Anytime my friend, Anytime."
Hugo trots off to go check on Minimus when he sees the small winged pony leaving the stables onto a trailer.
"Sir Gilliam what is going on?! Where are they taking Minimus?" Hugo asked, surprised.
The Derby coach turned his attention to Hugo and said, "Minimus owners decided that it was time to retire him to greener pastures."
Upset Hugo turns to the man saying, "You can't do this, Sofia will be back."
Sir Gilliam puts his hand up and surrenders, "My hands are tied Prince Hugo, the owner was generous in letting us use Minimus for the last 8 years, but he is getting on in years, besides there will be other horses."
Bowing his head down to hide his tears, Hugo thought to himself, 'Yeah but not one like Minimus, oh Sofia I am so sorry.'
"Now, let's get on with the practice, mount up, and do 20 laps!" Sir Gilliam shouted while they ran to their respective horses, mounted, and soon they were doing laps in the sky.
Hugo flies over to where James and said, "Hey James I don't know if you know, but Minimus..." He trails off, unsure how to explain that Sofia's beloved friend and the horse are gone.
James just gives him a sad smile, "I know, I will break the news to Sofia, I am hoping that she will take it well, but I doubt it, I did chat with Isabella and she said that Sofia was welcome to visit and ride Minimus anytime."
Hugo nods in approval before turning his attention back to practice, by the time he was done, his father Garrick was there to pick him up.
For the first half of the ride home, Hugo stayed strangely silent which concerned his father.
"Hugo is something that matters, you have been quiet." Garrick states.
"Is it too late for me to transfer over to the Royal Institute for Science and Alchemy?" Hugo asked, ignoring the look of shock on his father's face.
"Hugo, what brought this about? You couldn't wait to get into that school." Garrick asked.
Hugo didn't or rather couldn't look his father in the eye, when he said, "I just decided that I wasn't into sports as much as I thought I was , and at least with Science and Alchemy I can help with healing, medicine, and potions."
Garrick saw that Hugo had a point, but he still felt something was wrong with his youngest as he said, "If you are sure?"
Hugo nods, "Yes I am, sir."
Garrick sighs and said, "Alright I will look into it but don't get your hopes up if you can't transfer, you can always apply again next year if you want to."
"Yes, sir, thank you," Hugo said with a forced smile.
Meanwhile, at the facility, Elsa was greeting her Aunt and Uncle with a hug and smile before dragging them over to where Sofia was sitting waiting for her family in the visiting area.
"Aunt Iduna and Uncle Agnarr, meet my friend, Sofia, Sofia these are my Aunt and Uncle."
Sofia smiles and shakes their hands, "It's nice to meet you, I have heard so much about you, all good of course."
Iduna just chuckles at her, "I am just glad that my Elsie has finally found a friend, she is happier than I have seen her in a while, since the accident."
Before Sofia could question it further, she spots her parents and much to her surprise, Amber and James, apparently Michael and Ryan decided to go spend the night with friends, but they send their love and Emily was feeling unwell since it was getting closer to the full moon.
They all sat and chatted for a while but when Roland and Miranda were called in to talk with Ms. Henrietta, that is when James decided to break the news to Sofia.
"Hey Sofia, I have something to tell you," James said
Distracted Sofia turns to James, "Great, hey James can you give this letter to Hugo, please."
"Yes, but Sofia, I need to tell you that Minimus-SOFIA!"
Sofia is surprised by James's shout.
"Sit down." James orders which Sofia does.
Taking a deep breath, James starts to talk, "Sofia, Minimus is no longer at Royal Prep, he was sent back home by his owners, but Isabella reassured me that you were welcome to visit Minimus anytime and even ride him if you wanted to."
Sofia just sat there dazed after James was done talking, saying nothing for a long time, that it concerned Amber and James greatly, but then she started to giggle and then soon Sofia was laughing hysterically with tears streaming down her face as they just stared at her in surprise, but soon the laughing turned into real hysterical broken sobbing, which brought Elsa over to her side, without another word she guides Sofia over to where Tess was sitting and soon they were gone behind the double doors that lead to the part of the ward where they lived, only the adults, staff or patients were allowed back there.
But both Amber and James were concerned for their sister, as they walked up to the door and carefully pushed it open, waiting to see if the alarm bell would go off, but after a few moments nothing happened so they slip past the door, crawl under the nurse's station and soon they were standing in the hallway of bedrooms.
"Well this is just peachy, how are we going to find Sofia now!" James said frustrated.
Amber shakes her head, "Calm down, let's just look one by one."
"Or you could have asked me." Startled by the voice they quickly turn to see Elsa standing there a sly smile on her face, but her normally cheerful eyes were now filled with a darkness that was unknown and disturbing to them so they looked away as James asked, "Can you bring us to Sofia please, we just want to make sure that she is okay."
Elsa just stares at them for a moment and then nods and gestures for them to follow her. "Come with me."
They walk down the hall, stopping at the door with a number 7 on it to hear the sounds of adult voices talking behind it.
"How is Sofia doing, Ron?" Tess asked, her face full of concern as she watched the sedated child lay asleep under the covers.
An unknown man's voice who apparent was named Ron answers, "She is sedated for now, but I would keep an eye on her just in case she has any night terrors or starts to sleepwalk, I already spoke with Dr. Kevin and he agrees with me on this, please let her family know that Sofia is done with visiting today. If her parents want to come in and say goodnight and goodbye to her, they are welcome too."
Tess nods, "Of course."
They all pressed themselves close to the shadow of the door when it opened, barely breathing when they saw the nurse walking down the hallway towards the visiting area.
"Oh sugar cookies, Mom and Dad are going to go spar if they find out we are back here!" Amber whispers fearfully.
"Come on, let's go back, Sofia will be out until tomorrow," Elsa said as she carefully sneaked the twins back into the visiting area, thankfully the parents were both still in the office talking with Ms. Henrietta.
"That was too close," James whispers while Amber nods as they watch as Elsa says goodbye to her folks while they wait for a few moments while their parents went to the back and said goodbye to Sofia real quick before coming back and getting ready to leave.
When they got home, they went to their rooms to ready for bed, and after saying good night to Michael, Ryan, and Emily, they were soon laying in bed awake unable to get a hysterical look on their sister's face out of their minds as the manic laughter haunted them as they slept fitfully throughout the night until the crack of dawn.
