Chapter 7: Monstro
Kairi placed Genie's former lamp on the dashboard of the Gummi ship. "Great, now we have even more things to find. Why do not we just put up a sign that says, 'Lost and Found'," complains Donald. "That's not funny! We have other things to find, anyway," replies Kairi.
"Exactly! I'm about to forget what we're looking for in the first place," exclaims Donald before something caught his attention. "What's this? I've never seen this button before," said Donald. Donald refers to a blinking button with the words "push me" on it.
Immediately after Donald pushed the button, a familiar voice rang out, "I was wondering how much longer I have to wait. How have you been?" An image of Cid appears on the window. "Cid?! How did you do this," asks Kairi. "I installed it with the navigation gummi. Didn't Chip 'n' Dale tell you," Cid answers.
"You didn't ask my permission," an enraged Donald shouts. "Say what," Cid exclaimed. "Sorry, Donald's a little edgy right now," replies Kairi as she holds Donald back. "We sealed Agrabah's keyhole and found a page of Ansem's report," adds Kairi. "Good job," replies Cid.
"But I can't read what's written in the report," Kairi tells Cid. "Don't worry, just fax it to me and I'll decode it," replies Cid. "Fax," asks a surprised Kairi. She looked around and found a fax machine on the dashboard. "Oh yeah, Leon's group is also gathering information," adds Cid.
"It seems that Maleficent is up to something. Certain people in the various worlds are being kidnapped," Cid tells the three of them. Kairi remembers what happened in Agrabah. "We saw Maleficent kidnap a girl right in front of our eyes," replies Kairi.
"What? Really? Well, just keep on sealing them Keyholes," replies a shocked Cid. "Could I ask you a favor before you go," asks Donald. "Sure, shoot," answers Cid. "Next time, you can shrink your screen because we can't see where we're going because of your big face," exclaimed Donald.
Then, Donald and Cid enter a huge argument. Suddenly, Cid's transmission starts to break up. "Hey...Wh...at...is...Go...ing...on," Cid asks before being completely cut off. Kairi and her friends found themselves in pitch-black space. "Look behind us," shouts Goofy.
Kairi turns to see what Goofy is talking about. She sees huge teeth closing the path behind them. "We're in something's mouth," exclaims Kairi. But before any of them could do anything, the whole ship lunged.
Kairi hits her head, and everything starts to fade away into darkness. The sounds of waves fill Kairi's thoughts as she drifts away into sleep.
A young girl wakes up with an unshakable feeling of coldness. The girl feels so tired, but she fights against the urge to go back to sleep. Where am I? The ground feels different from what she used to, and water continuously splashes her feet.
The girl no idea has no idea where she is or how she got there. Who am I? The girl's memories feel fuzzy as she tries to recall what happened or who she is. The girl did not understand what was going on. Suddenly, an unfamiliar voice pierces her thoughts.
"Who are you?" The girl looks up towards the voice and sees a young boy with brown hair. She did not recognize him. But for some reason as soon she saw him, she does not feel cold anymore. The sight of him calms the girl.
"Where did you come from," asks the boy. The girl does not know how to answer his questions, but for some reason, she is no longer scared or worried anymore. The girl feels that as long she stays with him, everything will be alright.
The sound of arguing brought Kairi back to reality. "Hey, you! That's our Gummi block!" "Let me go!" Kairi wakes up to see Donald fighting a boy made of wood over a Gummi block in his hand. "I found this! It's mine," exclaims the wooden boy.
"Liar," exclaimed Donald. "I'm not lying," replies the wooden boy. But right after he said that the wooden boy's nose glowed and started to grow. When the glowing fades away, the boy's nose grows about a foot long with a couple of little branches sprouting on it.
Confused, Kairi asks, "What's going on, Donald? Who's that boy?" "Kairi, he took our gummi," answered Donald. Suddenly, Jimmy appears from over Donald's hat and exclaims, "Pinocchio, is it you!?" "You know him," Donald asks.
"Hey, boy, you must have lied again," Jimmy said after noticing Pinocchio's long nose. "Hi, Jimmy," replies a cheerful Pinocchio. "Excuse me," Jimmy said as he leapt off Donald's head and glided into Pinocchio's hands with the help of a tiny umbrella.
"I'm this boy's conscience. A fairy asked me to watch out for him, so he will not stray from his path. But we have been separated ever since we lost our world," explains Jimmy.
"Anyway, I've been watching out for these three recently. They get off track at just about every opportunity," Jimmy tells Pinocchio. Donald and Kairi could not help but be enraged by Jimmy's comment. While Goofy just accepts it.
Jimmy jumps out of Pinocchio's hand and lands on some wreckage. Jimmy turns to Pinocchio and points his umbrella at Pinocchio's long nose. "Listen up, Pinocchio! You know you are not supposed to tell lies. A lie only grows and grows, 'til you get caught! Plain as the nose on your face," scold Jimmy.
"Sorry, Jimmy. I promise to never tell a lie again," apologize Pinocchio. As if sensing his honest intentions, Pinocchio's nose glows again and shrinks back to normal. "That's right, Pinocchio. You need to be good, so you can become a real boy. You promised Geppetto you would be, right," replies Jimmy.
"Yes! Speaking of father, I am sure he would like to meet all of you. Follow me," Pinocchio said right before he rushed off with Jimmy in tow. With no other options, Kairi, Donald, and Goofy decide to follow Pinocchio.
While trying to catch up with Pinocchio, Kairi still could not believe that she is inside of something so big. She could still see the creature's huge teeth that are trapping her and her friends inside of it. When she looked up, Kairi sees the creature's spine forming a roof above her. And lastly, she sees the wreckage of so many ships all around her. Kairi wonders what happened to the people that were on those ships and what will happen to them.
The group finally reaches their destination; a mostly intact ship with a light shining from within. They follow Pinocchio on the ship and meet an old man welcoming them. "What a surprise! Looks like we have company! Eh, Figaro," the old man tells his cat.
"My name is Geppetto. I'm Pinocchio's father," explains the old man. "Father! These guys had a Gummi, too," said excited Pinocchio. "Really," replies a shocked Geppetto. Geppetto then shows the group a crate full of Gummi blocks. "I'm collecting these to get out of here," said Geppetto.
"If we make a ship from these Gummi blocks. We should be able to use it to escape," explains Geppetto. Kairi and Donald are surprised by Geppetto's ingenuity and a little guilty. As sensing their feelings, Geppetto asks, "Wait a minute, do you already have a ship?"
Kairi did not know how to respond to Geppetto's question. Luckily, Donald comes to the rescue. "Where is this place, anyway?" "We're inside the belly of Monstro the whale. So, the whale swallowed all of you, too? My goodness," replies Geppetto.
"I'm gonna go look for more Gummi blocks! So, we can make a great big ship," Pinocchio exclaim as he runs off. "Pinocchio! Don't go too far, now," call out Geppetto. "He's quite a restless kid. Even so, he is very precious to me. I'm hoping that he'll become a real boy... someday," Geppetto tells the group.
Geppetto's smile makes Kairi wonder about her family. Kairi could not remember anything before she arrived at Destiny Islands. Would I be able to find where I am from on my journey? Is my family waiting for me somewhere? Although she would like the answer, Kairi has someone else she wants to find first.
A scream snaps Kairi out of her thoughts. "Pinocchio," exclaim Geppetto. Suddenly, a big Heartless appears. The Heartless has wriggling tentacles and a huge mouth that forms a cage. Now trapped inside this Heartless is Pinocchio.
"Help! Father! Someone," shouts Pinocchio. The Heartless turn and run deeper into Monstro. "Pinocchio," cries Geppetto as he watches Pinocchio being kidnapped. Geppetto is about to chase the Heartless before Kairi stops him. "Stand back, Geppetto! Wait here," exclaim Kairi.
"But...! Pinocchio is my light. If I lose him, I do not know what I will-," Geppetto said before Kairi interrupts him. "Don't worry! I promise I'll bring him back." Seeing the look in Kairi's eyes convince Geppetto to trust her. "Very well. Please save my son," replies Geppetto.
Kairi, Donald, and Goofy race after the Heartless through Monstro. The three friends navigate through Monstro's unique body. They manage to catch up with the Heartless and corner in a room full of stomach acid. The three friends are surprised by what they discover: the Heartless giving Pinocchio over to Riku.
Kairi could not believe it. "Riku, what are you doing here," asks Kairi. Riku did not respond to her as he places an unresponsive Pinocchio on the floor. "Riku, what's the matter with you? Do you realize what you're doing," asked Kairi.
"I was about to ask you the same thing, Kairi. You only seem interested in running around and showing off that Keyblade these days. Do you even want to save Sora," respond Riku. Although Kairi did not understand Riku's question, she is currently more worried about Pinocchio.
"Let go of Pinocchio," demand Kairi. "I don't think so. A puppet that is lost its heart to the Heartless. Maybe it holds the key to helping Sora. How odd for a puppet to have a heart in the first place," replies Riku with a straight face.
Hearing Riku mentions Sora again causes Kairi to become worried about him. "What happened to Sora," Kairi asks. "Kairi, which is more important to you? This puppet, or Sora," replies Riku. Although Kairi is worried about Sora, she remembers the smile Geppetto, and Pinocchio shared.
"What? You would rather fight me? Over a puppet that has no heart," Riku asks after realizing Kairi's choice. "Heart or no heart, at least he still has a conscience," replies Kairi. At that very moment, Jimmy rushes over to Pinocchio and tries to wake him with no luck.
"You might not hear it, but right now it's loud and clear. And Riku, it is telling me you are on the wrong side," Kairi tells Riku. Kairi and Riku get ready to face off until Riku backs off. "Then you leave me no choice. I'll save Kairi on my own," said Riku.
Suddenly, a dark vortex appears behind Riku. Riku turns towards the vortex. "Riku, don't leave," Kairi cries out. But Riku enters it. "You won't be able to save Sora," Riku said as he vanished.
As soon Riku vanishes, the Heartless that dormant through their conversation starts to move. The Heartless used its two biggest tentacles to lash out at Kairi. Kairi barely manages to dodge its attack, but she accidentally steps on the edge of the platform and starts to lose her balance.
Then the Heartless dips its tentacles into the acid and shoots it at the group. Goofy protects Kairi and Donald with his shield. After helping Kairi regain her balance, Donald strikes back at the Heartless with magic, stunning it. Seeing her chance, Kairi rushes over and launches a barrage of attacks at the Heartless.
The Heartless perish and all the hearts it has eaten are set free. But Pinocchio still lay unresponsive. Kairi is sad that she could not save Pinocchio. Suddenly, the group hears giggling from Pinocchio. "Pinocchio! You were faking the whole time!? I was so worried about you," exclaimed an angry, but relieve Jimmy.
"Sorry. I was scared," replies Pinocchio. "It's ok. You are safe now. Let us take you back to Geppetto," Kairi tells Pinocchio. The friends lead Pinocchio back to his father.
"Father," shouts Pinocchio as he runs up the plank to the ship. Geppetto's face lit up when he saw Pinocchio. Pinocchio leaps into Geppetto's arms and the two hugs. After sitting Pinocchio down, Geppetto shows everyone a tiny Gummi ship.
"I need to get Pinocchio out of danger. That is why I made a ship from all the Gummi blocks I found," explains Geppetto. "Father, this ship is kind of small," commented Pinocchio as the ship is smaller than Pinocchio. "Don't worry, it's bigger than it looks. But there is the only room in it for four," replies Geppetto.
Understanding the situation, Kairi and Donald tries to excuse themselves. "I must ask you to take Pinocchio to a safe place using this ship," exclaim Geppetto. Kairi and Donald are surprised by Geppetto's request. "You must hurry! The bonfire I started will allow you to escape," adds Geppetto as he pushes Kairi, Donald, Goofy, and Pinocchio towards the ship.
But Pinocchio tries to persuade Geppetto to stop.
"Father!"
"Don't worry, I will build another ship."
"But...!"
"I just want you to be safe."
"But I don't want to leave you."
This scene causes Kairi to remember that lonely memory. "I am sorry, but I can't accept your request, Geppetto," exclaim Kairi. Everyone is shocked by Kairi's outburst. With tears, Kairi continues, "I don't remember who my parents. But if I had the choice, I would like them to be with me and for them to meet all the wonderful people I befriended.
"How can you keep Pinocchio safe if you don't even know where he is? You are sending him off with people you just met a little while ago! You don't even know that we have our Gummi ship, so you don't have to be separated from Pinocchio!"
When Kairi finishes, everyone just keeps stares at her. Kairi feels embarrassed for shouting. Suddenly, the whole place starts to shake. "Monstro must be about to sneeze. You must return to your ship and thank you," Geppetto tells Kairi. Everyone rushes over to their ships and gets ready for the ride of their life.
The three friends escape from Monstro with the pride of reuniting a father with his son. But the friends are also filled with dread over the unknown fate of Sora and the unavoidable confrontation with Riku.
K Report 7: Someone
The girl is still amazed by the three's latest adventure. She feels jealous that they can explore so many different worlds and be able to meet so many new and interesting people like that boy made of wood. Then something clicks in the girl's mind and an image pops into her mind.
Two young girls sitting back-to-back. One has blonde hair and the other has black hair. The girl with blonde hair is drawing in a book, while the girl with black hair is eating a blue popsicle.
Even though the girl could not see their faces, the girl feels some sort of bond with the blonde girl. As the girl wonders who they are, something strange happens. The image starts moving.
The two girls stop what they are doing and turn towards her. The two girls have the same face as the girl adventurer. "Remember," said the two girls.
The girl could not believe what just happened. She waits to see if something else happens, but nothing happens. The girl is left more confused than ever.
Who exactly am I? Why is that female adventurer the only one I can see from here? What is my relationship with her? What are all these weird memories about?
The girl decides to keep watching the three adventurers hoping that she will get more answers than questions. The girl watches in wonder as they reach a gorgeous world.
