A/N: So the last chapter was short and sweet, but I had a final due last night. Promise to make it up to you guys in this one. Thanks for sticking with. I am excited about where this is going and maybe Bella will get out of bed soon. ;)
"I'm gonna go change, I'll be right back." Jacob told her. Bella groaned but there was no further protest.
Jacob got up and went downstairs to find Charlie in the living room watching a fishing show on tv. He sat down on the couch next to him. It was only nine in the morning, but it was Sunday and Charlie was usually fishing by now. "Hey, how is she?" He said without tearing his eyes away from the tv.
"She's okay, she's eating at least."
"Oh yeah?"
"Ate half a pizza just now." Jacob chuckled.
"That's awesome. I didn't think I would see you again till nightfall."
"Actually, that's what I came to talk to you about. Bella has asked me to stay." He searched Charlie's face as he looked away from the tv for the first time.
"Like stay the night?" There was nothing in his blank expression.
"Well, actually, she said indefinitely, but I am just aiming for her being able to sleep through the night."
Charlie sighed and looked back at the tv. "Fine, but be safe, please."
"Charlie, there won't be any need for--" Charlie shot him a look that said he knew what would happen. "But, absolutely."
Charlie went back to the tv as if nothing had happened and sipped his drink. "Hey, you can go out fishing today. I'm going to try and get her out of the house."
Charlie froze and chortled. "Good luck. I was thinking about going up to the lake."
"Go, have fun. She's in good hands..." He shot Jacob another look. "I mean--she'll be fine."
"Alright, but I'm probaly coming back early."
"Where are you going?" It came from the stairs and they both whipped around to see Bella standing there. They both froze in shock that she was out of bed.
Charlie spoke first, "I was going to go fishing, but I can stay home if you need me to." Jacob and Charlie were both studying her for signs of distress.
"Is it Sunday already?" Bella asked with a smile. You could visually see them both relax. "Go, please. I need to get out anyway."
They were both surprised to hear her say it, but they didn't dare question it. They both stood up at the same time and Charlie glanced at Bella and then Jacob before he left for his room.
"What did you have in mind?" Jacob asked as he stopped in front of her.
"Actually...it's kind of nice out. Second day of full sun in a row. I was thinking of heading out to First Beach, if that's okay." Bella looked up at Jacob for the first time and Jacob could feel the grin spread across his face.
"Absolutely. Let's go get you dressed."
They both headed back up the stairs to Bella's room.
Jacob had expected them to take Bella's truck, but she was all too ready to hop onto his bike. They drove about 30 minutes to First Beach and they both hopped off the bike. Together, they pushed through the dunes and weeds onto the beach and he stood there taking it in. He hadn't been to First Beach in a while. Not since he had rescued Bella from the cliff dive. But now, he took in the driftwood, the smell of the saltwater mixed with her strawberry hair, and the sun shining over the water. It glittered off the top of the waves like it was happy to be here. This kind of weather came very seldom and to happen two days in a row was unheard of in this part of the country.
Bella wandered out to where the waves were breaking on the beach and took off her shoes. She waited for the water to emerge and touch her toes. "Ah, it's freezing."
"It's only June, Bells. The water will warm up soon." Jacob chuckled as he watched her try to withstand the cold.
"I just want to swim." Bella said.
"Oh yeah." Jacob took two long strides toward her. "C'mere." In one swift motion and a squeal from Bella he had her on his shirt off and Bella on his back. He was headed into the water with loud playful protests from Bella.
"Jake! Wait! It's freezing and I can't--" She cut herself off and he swam into the water with her on his back. He knew his heat would keep her warm enough and could warm her up when they got out. He stood up, chest deep in the waves as Bella hung from his shoulders like a small child. She looked out over the waves, calmer now.
"It's beautiful here. It's always been my favorite place in Washington." She looked deep in thought when Jacob glanced at her face and then back at the waves over the horizon. "It's as close to home as it gets."
Jacob was silent for a while: lost in thought. "Do you miss your mom?"
She didn't answer for a few long seconds. "Yeah, I do. They're in Florida where I'm sure it's already hot and the water is surely warm." She was still looking out over the waves when Jacob had an idea.
"Why don't you go and visit?" He looked at her as she looked down at him.
"I'm not ready. I don't want her to see me like this and the nightmares..." She trailed off. Jacob was watching her as she returned her gaze to the horizon and shivered. Time to get out.
Jacob headed back to the beach, "But maybe seeing her will do you some good. Help you..." Move on. "Feel better."
She sighed. "I don't want to be away from you. I feel better with you." She turned her gaze to the sand as they emerged from the water. Jacob wrapped her in a towel from his pack and hugged her tight so she could warm up.
"What if I go with you?"
She looked up at him with hope in her eyes. "You would do that?" She paused. "What about Billy... and the pack?"
"Eh." He shrugged. "They could do a few days without me. In fact, Sam and the gang are probably ready to be rid of me for a bit anyway."
"Why?" She was bemused.
"Well, I haven't done anything useful in months and all I think about is you..." Jacob trailed off. Well that was cheesy. Now she thinks I'm a stalker.
"I haven't stopped thinking about you either since..." She trailed off and he saw a blush flood her face.
"Let's go, Bella." He tugged her chin up. "Let's go to Florida for a few days."
Finally, she smiled. This was a real genuine smile that lit up her eyes for the first time since he's seen her.
"It's settled. But I have to go and talk to Dad, and the pack."
"Yes! And I'll call Mom and get us tickets!" She was truly excited. "I can't wait for you to meet her! You know... again." Bella stood up, wrapped her towel and headed for the bike.
Jacob suddenly felt a pit in his stomach. He was nervous. But why?
When they arrived back at Charlie's, they had hardly been gone just over an hour. Bella bounded upstairs and stumbled only twice. "I'm going to shower and call Mom," she'd said. "When will you be back?"
Jacob took that as a cue that she expected him to go immediately and handle business in La Push. "Well, maybe tonight?"
He saw fear in her eyes and stumbled into his next statement, "Definitely before you're asleep." She smiled again from the top of the stairs and turned to bound toward the shower. He felt the fear from her eyes in his stomach. He sighed. Sam is not going to like this.
Jacob pulled up on his bike in front of his house and reluctantly headed inside. Billy would probably be all for it, but it was the conversation with the pack he was dreading so he would try and get it over with as quickly as possible. He opened the front door and saw his dad peer back from the tv. "You're home early!" Billy rolled toward him.
"Yeah... Dad..." Jacob scratched the back of his head nervously and Billy's face changed to sarcasm as he waited for the next thing to come out of Jacob's mouth. "I kind of agreed to go with Bella to see her mom in Florida." Billy paused and then a smile crept across his face.
"Of course you did! That sounds fun! So why the long face?" Billy was as happy as ever that he was spending time with Bella again.
"I don't think Sam will go for it. Or the rest of the pack." Jacob scratched his head again.
"Oh, sure they will! They're downright sick of ya!" Billy let out a belly laugh.
Jacob gave a nervous chuckle and headed to change. His next stop was Sam and Emily's.
