#51: Ultra-Gamer's New Game
"Finally done!" I said, getting up from the computer desk in my bedroom. With a click of a button, the data went into a CD and with some pixelation, I gave the disc a title.
Sorry for not explaining. I just made my next videogame. Back in MegaCity, I was a game programmer under the username 'Ultra-Gamer'. I made a ton of games: Platform, Co-op, Strategy, you name it. Most of them are based of my hero alter-ego. One of my most popular game is a platform game called Music Mover. It's simple game where you have to drag a ball through arches to the beat of any music you like.
The game I just made is called 'Techno + Super Hero Girls: Opposites Don't Attract'. It's a game where me and the girls get trapped in this world where everything's like our world but reversed. We have to face weird challenges, foes, and even ourselves! Well, evil versions of ourselves actually. Everything's reversed, remember?
I went through a lot of prototypes, coding, and errors just to get it right. It's not co-op, but there's a ton of minigames, power moves, boss battles, and rewards in it. It's a game everyone can love. I already made copies and when I finish playing it myself, I told Aarondroid to go get people to start playing it. It can be played on anything. Going back a bit, I'm about to bring it downstairs and play it myself.
*Knock, knock, knock*
Change of plans: Door first, then game. I ran downstairs with the disc still in my hand. I opened the door and I was immediately bombard with questions from Barbra. I wanted to now how she knew I was home. I had a good guess and said, "Lemme guess, you put cameras in my room?" She looked away and chuckled nervously. "How hard would you laugh if I said I did?" "Maybe a chuckle. Wasn't that funny." I sparked my hand and slapped the back of her head. "Had that coming." She said, rubbing her head. She quickly collected herself and said, "Anyway, where was I?" "I think it was, 'You made a video game based of us and the others?'." "Oh yeah. So did you?!" "If I did?" "Can I play?!" "Uh, sure. Come in."
Half an hour later...
"Looks like you just unlocked your first power move." "Cool! So how do I use the Dropchopper?" "The game'll explain it."
Yeah, that's the first power move. All the power moves in the game need me/Techno to work. The Dropchopper's an 'attack from above' move needs both Techno and Batgirl to work. Every attack needs Battle Points, or B.P., in order to use them and this on needs ten. You earn B.P. by defeating foes.
In the game, Batgirl pulls out the Dropchopper, which is a bronze propeller with blue handlebars on it, it flies upwards and it, Batgirl, and Techno move a distance down the screen. They're side by side chasing the chopper back to the enemy. Barbra made Batgirl jump up and grab it, then Techno. The chopper then zips higher in the air and faster back towards the enemy, and when the chopper's right above him, Barbra pressed the action button making both Batgirl and Techno spin drop onto the enemy, doing a lot of damage in the process, and when they stopped spinning, they backflipped off him.
"Whoa!" "I know, right?" "Again!" I shook my head, laughing on the inside.
*Knock, knock, knock*
I went to get the door again, and turns out it was Kara this time. Before I could ask, she said, "Super Hearing. Can I come in? *Pushes past Aaron* Sweet." "Didn't yes, but sure."
Twenty-four minutes later...
"So how's this Slingsnipper work?" "The game'll show you." Barbra answered.
Kara unlocked the next power move and it needs both Techno and Supergirl to work. The Slingsniper's a 'hit from the side' attack. It needs twelve B.P. too work
In the game, Supergirl pulls out a slingshot, she and Techno move to the side of the enemy, she places it and it grows to their size. They get in the slingshot's pouch and Kara makes them pull it back with them in it. When they're as far as they can go, the screen changes so all there is is a target marker. Using the joystick, Kara aimed the marker at the foe, and with the push of the action button, she launched Supergirl and Techno into the foe, feet first.
"Ok! Not bad!" She said. We should try these attacks in real life sometime. "What'cha texting, Babs?" "Telling the others to come over. They need to see this!" And like that, the game's a hit before I even released it.
Twenty-six minutes later...
Now all the girls are here and Jess just unlocked a new move.
"Balloon Blast?" "Try it and see what it does." I said.
This attack needs Techno and Green Lantern to work. It's a 'multiple hits at once' attack and needs nine B.P. to work.
In the game Lantern pulls out a pump, throws it, and it grows to their size. Techno throws a bunch of Ultra Discs in the air and Lantern made a very big balloon construct. Techno jumps onto the pump, blast jumps upward, and Jess has to make him push down on the pump at the right time in the air. She pressed down and when the pump pushed down, it sprung Techno back in the air. This went on nine more times, and on the tenth, the balloon burst open, and Ultra Discs rained down from above and burst open upon impact on the enemies. Techno landed on one hand upside-down and gave Lantern a thumbs up.
"Haha, nice touch." "Thank you, Jess."
Twelve minutes later...
It's Zee's turn and she unlocked a move called the 'Enhance-ulets'.
This move needs Techno and Zatanna to work. It's also a 'multiple hits at once' attack and needs eight B.P. to work.
In the game, Zatanna pulls out two amulets and gives one to Techno, and they both put them on. They grow green and purple colored aura's respectfully and their eyes are glowing, showing that they're powers have increased. Tapping the button a bunch of times, Zee made Zatanna throw a bunch of blasts of her magic at an enemy. She then made Techno throw a bunch of blasts of his energy at the foe. The cycle repeated again once, then the amulets glowed and the heroes' aura and eyes glowed brighter, and tapping two buttons at once, Zee made both of them throw a bunch of blasts at the enemy. When they were done, the amulets disintegrated and both hero's went back to normal.
"I actually had one of those amulets. I gave it to my friend Angel. You would like her Zee." "Really? How so?" "She's like you: born to perform."
Seventeen minutes later...
It's Diana's turn and she was having some trouble. She never played a videogame before. I helped her out and she's getting the hang of it.
"Okay Diana, this move should be easy to get right."
This move's called the 'Jet Board Bash'. If you haven't seen the pattern yet, this move needs Techno and Wonder Woman. It's a 'hit from the front' attack needs thirteen B.P. to work.
Diana was hesitant at first but she went with it and did the attack.
In the game, Wonder Woman pulls out surfboard with wheels and a jet engine on the back of it. She and Techno ran a far distance to the left. Wonder Woman placed the board on the ground and she and Techno got on, him lying on it and her over him standing on it, sword in hand. Pressing the action button quickly, Diana made Techno move the board by paddling quickly and by paddling hard and fast enough, the board's jet engine activated, making them go even faster. Techno held onto the board while Wonder Woman gripped her sword tightly. At the right moment, when they were just in front of the foe, Diana pressed the button which made her hero self slash the enemy right across the front!
We all cheered for her, and she looked astonished.
Twenty-three minutes later...
It's finally Karen's turn and she unlocked the last move.
"Ooh, you're gonna like this move K."
It's called the 'Power Tower'. It's a 'hit from the front' attack that needs Techno and Bumblebee and uses fifteen B.P..
In the game, Bumblebee pulls out a small electrical tower. She and Techno move a far distance to the left. When far enough, Bumblebee placed the tower down and it grew to a massive size. Techno ran to the very top and gave it a ton of power. The tower shot strong beams of energy onto Bumblebee and it made her grow to a giant's size!
The look on Karen's face tells me she likes it a lot.
She grabbed the still charged tower with Techno still on top and yanked it out of the ground. Pressing the action button at the right moment each time, she made Bumblebee, well, Giantbee fly faster towards the enemy with every push. When they were just at the front of him, Giantbee used the tower and hit him and Techno far off into the distance. Karen then pressed the button to make Techno land on the enemy three times, and on the fourth press, she make him surf on him and hurting him in the process. When the surf came to a stop, Techno jumped off him and gave Giantbee an air five over the horizon.
Karen gave me tight hug. "Thank you so much!" "It's nothing. Don't worry about it."
Now that the girls have seen the attacks and most of Story Mode, they told me it would be an absolute favorite for everyone in Metropolis. I just hope they're right.
#52: They were
The next day at school...
As all seven teens walked down the halls, they could hear people talking about the game Aaron made. Some of them even wanted to be Aaron's friend and tried to get close to him, but he ignored them.
He's pretty sure some of them didn't even know him. Which is funny, considering the fact he threw that huge Halloween party, and is the only one who stood up to and fought Doris freaking Zeul herself and won, more than once I might add.
"Looks like someone's got some fans." "Whatever Zee." Aaron's phone rang, for the fifth time today, from the same number. "For the love of-" He answered the phone, and said angerly, "For the last time, tell Luthor, I SAID NO!" He used his powers and drained the battery life from the phone. He sighed and put his phone in his pocket. Since he woke up this morning, he's been getting calls from Lexcorp saying Lex Luthor wanted to talk with him. It's probably for some job offer, but Aaron had trust issues with him so he declined.
"What was that all about?" "Don't wanna talk about it, Kara." Aaron walked off to somewhere leaving the girls confused.
This happened back in MegaCity. Anytime Aaron says that he has potential, no one believes him, but when he makes something that blows everyone away, they're suddenly begging for him to work for them. That's actually what happened when he first came to Metropolis. He went to Lexcorp for a job, but Lex declined him and didn't give him a chance saying, 'It would be waste of time. Sorry, but the answer's no.'. But when he makes a successful game, he want's Aaron on his side.
Wow. Just wow.
"Some are selfish, some are selfless. Life's too twisted to make sense." Aaron muttered to himself. That's when he got an idea. Time to show them what Aaron's really capable of.
After school at an abandoned store...
"Pleasure doing business with you dude." Aaron said into his phone before hanging up, Aarondroid by his side. "Let's get to work A.D."
Cue building montage!
We see Aaron on Aarondroid's shoulders hammering some nails up the side of the building. Aarondroid was extending his legs longer, going higher each time.
Cutting to Aaron installing some shelves into the ground and Aarondroid putting some lightbulbs in the ceiling with his extended arms.
Now cutting to Aarondroid putting some glass on the window panes, and Aaron in the background carrying some boxes.
Next we see Aaron at this wide display counter, stocking it with electronics and devices.
Now we see Aarondroid putting some T.V. screens on shelves on the far side of the store.
Now we see Aaron with some kind of blaster, shooting the place and giving it some color.
Finally, we see Aaron ad Aarondroid at a light switch, and using his powers he powered the entire place.
End montage!
"Three, two, one, pull!" Aaron and Aarondroid pulled two cords, making a sheet drop from the top of the store revealing a sign that read 'A's' with a lightning bolt going across the sign.
We used 'A's' because of copyright reasons. I think you know what I mean by that.
Anyway, yeah, this was his idea. This store sells any electrical or nonelectrical usable item you can think of. Things like tools, appliances, devices, videogames, original snacks he made, anything that Aaron's made for anyone to use, you'll find it in that store.
"Solid work A.D.." They fist bumped. He pulled out his phone and took a selfie with the store in the background, and put in the description, 'Just got a new store, we're opening in fifteen minutes!' and hit send. He and Aarondroid went inside and played the waiting game, while his phone buzzed with notifications.
Fourteen minutes later...
Changing the scene to the girls about to enter Sweet Justice, but they noticed a long line in front of a building on the same street a couple of yards down. The looked at each other and went to check it out. They went to the back of the line and Diana asked the woman before them, "Excuse me miss, would you mind telling the reason of these people gathering here?" She answered, "Didn't you hear? This store just showed up. It's about to open in a few seconds." That's when the line started moving in the building.
#53: Welcome to A's
Let's get to work. As when A.D. opened the doors, people came in and started looking around in awe. Then Aarondroid came behind the counter with me. We high fived. A's is gonna be huge. Hey, it's the girls.
"Aaron did you-" "Yes I did, Zee. Yes I did. Kara, you're paying for that, right?" Kara's eating a candy bar called a Berryfinger. It's like the Butterfinger, but since I don't like peanut butter or chocolate, I made it with cherry and blue raspberry flavors.
This actually true, I despise peanut butter and chocolate. If you're mad or shocked, sue me. I don't feel bad for telling the truth about myself.
"Uh...can I have this for free?" "*Sigh* Fine. Only cause we're friends. You know what, all of you can choose one thing to keep. On the house Just this once." They all, minus Kara, smiled and scattered. Things are looking up Aaron.
"Hey! You!" I looked to the left of the counter and saw a girl younger than me. She was easy to recognize. "Aren't you Lena Luthor from the commercials?" "Yep. Hey, my brother wants to talk to you." She said pointing to the door. I looked outside and saw a car parked outside my store. The window rolled down and saw Lex Luthor with sunglasses on wave at me. I turned back to Lena and said, "Tell him I'm not talking to him." "Lex, you owe me a dollar." She said to herself, "Hey, how much's the gum?" "The Rainbow Gum? $1.50 a pack, but since I trust you more than you're brother, take it." She grinned and went back to the candy shelves, grabbed a pack and ran out.
Outside, I saw the Lena hold her hand out at Lex. He rolled his eyes and gave her a dollar. She smirked, blew a gum bubble, and got in the car after it popped. The car then drove off. Some people don't know how to take no for an answer.
Later at 10:15pm...
Me and A.D. just locked up for the night. We're on our way home now. Today was a huge success! All within forty-eight hours, I completed a game, started a business, and made almost $8,000! And that's just today! My parents would be so proud. If I visit MegaCity, I might set up one of my stores there.
#54: No means No
The next day, on the way to school...
"Out of all days, why'd it have to rain today?" Karen said as she and Aaron were an the way to school under a umbrella. Aaron offered to walk to school with her, and she was delighted and accepted. It's great to see that they're getting closer and closer. Progress!
*Car honks twice*"Need a ride?"
They looked and saw it was Lex again in his car. Before Aaron could decline, Karen said, "Sure." It was an offer from one of the most powerful people in Metropolis, what could she say? Karen got in the backseat. She gestured Aaron to come in with him. Aaron sighed, straightened his glasses, and against his better judgement, got in the back with Karen. They then drove off to Metropolis High.
Halfway through the ride, Lex's been going on about how wrong he was for turning Aaron down and that he's considering hiring Aaron if he asked looked at Aaron to see how he felt about this, when he said, "Stop it Lex. I already said 'no' more than once. I'm not being apart of Lexcorp." "You sure? You're passing up the opportunity of a lifetime?" "You mean you passed up the opportunity of a lifetime. You thought I was a joke when I first showed up. Now you're trying to get me to work for you because of what I can do. Let me ask you something Luthor, what's the real reason you want me to work for you?" Lex replied, slightly annoyed, "I'm doing it for the people of Metropolis. Why else?" "For the people, or for you? You think that because of the work I can do and the way I can do it, I could make a city block, and you'd be right!" "Wait really?" "Read it and weep, K."
Aaron showed Karen a picture of his eleven-year-old self, completely exhausted, and a section of MegaCity in the background cheering for him. Lex saw the picture too and loooked surprised.
Aaron continued, "Now you want me to join Lexcorp. What would happen if my skills joined your 'plans' for Metropolis, what would happen then? They'd be complete in half the time. Don't think you're slick Lex, I can read anyone like a character in a book in a heartbeat."
Lex stomped on the brakes when they were outside the school. "Just, get, out." They got out and the second they did Lex sped off. "People always get mad when I'm right." "Something tells me you recorded all that." "Karen, what kind of person do you take me for? *Taps glasses twice* Of course I did."
You see, when Aaron adjusted his glasses before Lex gave them a ride, he secretly tapped the button recording stuff the entire time. Everything in the car was on live camera across the net. Like Aaron says, no one starts something with him and ever gets the last laugh.
