"So?" the demanding female voice came through the phone.

"So?" Matt asked, feigning ignorance.

"So," Elisa said between her teeth. Gods, how she hated when Matt did that fake I-have-no-idea-what-you're-talking-about thing. "So, how'd she take it?"

"Just as we thought," Matt assured Elisa. "Sorry to surprise you with the timing, though."

"It surprised me," Elisa said, and Matt could almost see her shoulders lift and fall in a half shrug, "but glad that she seems to be on our side."

"I knew she would be," Matt said pointedly. "So did you."

"Yeah," Elisa admitted, "but it's nice to have the confirmation."

"Yeah," Matt agreed. "For future reference, I let it slip that you were possibly expecting a different person."

"Who?" Elisa asked.

"Morgan."

"Elisa scoffed," ten years ago, maybe. "Now, I'd be afraid he'd have heart failure. Let's let him retire in peace."

"So…change of topic, but have you had any word from the UN?"

Elisa gave a startled laugh. "Don't start. They only just met the gargoyles last night."

"And how long did it take you to form an opinion?" Matt challenged.

"Point taken," Elisa said with a sigh. "No, nothing yet. I'll let you know when I do."
